How to host a blog on your free Dropbox account?

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Fri, 6 Jul 2012 05:37:00 -0700

It is the question that I was having in my mind for years since the DropBox was launched. This is because the Dropbox use Amazon AWS for storing our files securely on the web. The Amazon AWS is known for it's uptime and reliability that is why they counts customers like Netflix, Dropbox, Tumblr etc.

There is app name Scriptogram which will help you to do this into reality. You have to sign up with your Dropbox usernames. You can add personalized domain name too. So it's very easy to use and very effective. But it will not be as friendly as Wordpress or blogger. But you can edit your own theme or there are preloaded small number of themes which you can use easily.
The blog can be edited from any device with internet. But you have to write your post in Markdown format. This Markdown is bit tricky.

The Pros of hosting your blog with Scriptogram:

Domain name can be added by just changing the A record or CNAME (if sub-domain is used)
You do not have to think about the uptime it is 99.999%
You will be storing your data at Amazon AWS datacenter.
You can create a custom theme.
You can utilize your massive a 18 GB storage space of your free account.
You do not have to maintain your servers and the lots of password.
You can use your username and the password of your DropBox account.
If you require more storage then you are flexible by buying a plan.
It is secure.

The Cons:

The Scriptogram is currently in beta stage.
Not much support is available.
The Markdown is not so much user friendly.
You have to bit geek.

Then host securely and enjoy and utilize your 18GB of free storage.

Why I do not browse Yahoo everyday?

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 5 Jul 2012 20:53:00 -0700

[source: Flickr]
Some years ago I was a regular user of Ymail and Yahoo.com. But today I do not use it because it's very pathatic to browse Yahoo because it is no longer a compitator of Google but it has become more blogging site. To keep the page views to the magical number it is using different pictures and putting them in the slideshow. The pictures are something which people will like to see, specially the younger genaration like me. But I do not, because Yahoo is no more an innovative company and at the same time it has transformed into a blogging company. Oh! Yes, it also publishes news too but not from it's own journalists but from different news agencies. I think they should recruit more journalist than developers to maintain their page views now it is having. Sorry, because not only the news but the mail contribute a large chunk of the page views from that service around 48% according to Alexa.com. But I do not use Y! Mail too because I think Gmail is more safe than Yahoo!. Gmail has included two step verification and at the same time they have included one more type of security verification i.e. apps specific password to keep the hackers at bay which you will not have to remember, just copy and paste in the password box go your BB or apple mail. Yahoo has also included the 2 step verification in reply, but it is still in a beta stage and it has no application specific password. It will be good for Yahoo to see AOL as it's competitor not Google. The Gmail UI is far better than Ymail. The Gmail UI is like that any one who started using internet can use it flawlessly but the last one's very confusing. But Yahoo has large number of users which help them to lure more advertisers. The Yahoo search is another flop product from Yahoo because is shows less search when you type a keyword. I think Google more user friendly and very accurate than Yahoo search. The partnership with Bing (another flop product from Microsoft) is also not going to Yahoo much to get back it's lost glory to Google. I remembers that day when the Google founder Mr.Larry had gone to Yahoo to sell it's developed code for a throw away price.

How to secure wireless networks (Wi-Fi)?

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Mon, 30 Apr 2012 06:47:00 -0700

Browsing internet wirelessly over Wi-Fi is a new style statement. Buying and setting up a Wi-Fi connection is easy. Any one can do it. But most people either do not have the knowledge or simply forget to setup the security side of this wonderful device. What ever the reason may be either lack of knowledge or simply forgotten may turn this amazing, easy to use and reliable device into a night mare.

List of problems you may face and can even landed yourself in big trouble:-

First of all if you are using 3G or 4G or broadband with or without an unlimited option (which too comes with a FUP) then bad boys of your area may use up your free or limited usage and may increase your billed usage. Which may results in a hefty bill amount at the end of the month.
You may not be able to get proper internet speed as promised by your ISP because you have to share your speed with your neighbouring bad boys. Results in a slow internet speed.
This may land you in judicial problem because the bad boys may use your network to upload adult movies or may sent threatning emails to various government departments. You may be an innocent but you have to face trails.
Your personal files on your computer will be at a risk because hackers will able to hack your computer wirelessly and gain access to your personal files.

But by applying some simple steps you can stop them from manipulating your computer wirelessly and stop them from using your internet. It is not very hard to secure your wireless network, just follow five steps listed below and get your work done.

First of all type http://192.168.1.1 on your web browser and put right username and password by default D-Link routers comes with "admin" as username and password. Then change the default username to something unique but it should not be your name or your pets name. Then comes the password which should be only alphanumeric. Because D-Link does not allow special characters. Go through your modem's manual or call technical department of your modem brand to know whether you will be able to use special characters or not. If your's one allows then you can insert special characters with your alpha numeric password and this will boost your security.
Then change your SSID to something very unique but should not contain any personal information of yours. By default your router's SSID is its brand-name i.e. Mine one was D-Link. You can play a trick by changing the SSID to something scary to hear e.g. Trojan_is_in_attack. You should give something you may recognise because in city areas you will find a number of SSIDs when your Wi-Fi is in scanning mode. Because the neighbors of your may use his / her Wi-Fi with different SSID. When your are scanning using your laptop's Wi-Fi you can see yours SSID along with others.
Then come network encryption a vital part when comes to the security of your wireless network. By switching on your network encryption you can prevent unauthorized access to your internet connection. There are several encryption methods available like WEP, WPA, WPA2. The WEP is the lowest level of encryption and it had been cracked several times. WPA-Personal is the latest security level for personal use. To setup WPA-Personal enter a WPA / WPAI passphrase, the passphrase will contain a combination of numbers letters special characters. You will find this option under wireless security section of your admin panel of your router. Remember the passphrase because you will be asked from the next time you login wirelessly.
Every Wi-Fi device comes with a unique MAC address which is like your computer's IP address. You should register your computer's MAC address with your router to restrict other computer with different MAC address from logging into your network. The MAC address has no relation with Apple Mac and should not be confused.
Being admin of your modem you can restrict the number of client / persons who can use your network simply by increasing and decreasing the Global Max client. If only you are using the Wi-Fi then change the Global Max Client to one if your friends are using too then change it according to the number of friends.

The wrong doers or the bad boys can manipulate most of the above security measure by using their some open-source softwares like Aircrack-ng, Macshift, Nmap etc. Hackers with "cantenna" can detect your network from a very long distance, even from those places from where your Wi-Fi network detection is not possible. But the amature hacker may use this technique to manipulate your network form a very long distance. So, I will advice you to keep your Wi-Fi on when required and switch it off when you are not using your computer. By applying the above listed technique you may make the hacker's task bit difficult but you cannot make hacker proof. So, go ahead.

Why I have purchased D-Link DSL-2750U ? (review)

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sun, 29 Apr 2012 20:27:00 -0700

This is the original packet of my new D-Link DSL-2759U modem.

I need a Wi-Fi modem for a long time but not able to purchase because sometime I left myself with so small amount in bank a/c, barely enough to pay my internet bill for one month. Because I am a crazy shopper. But not this time because I have make up my mind in the beginning of the month that I have to full fill my long term demand, before spending a single rupee on other items.

So, I listened to my mind and fulfilled my long term requirement and demand of a Wi-Fi enabled modem, which my friends already have. Recently, I had purchased my all new Apple Macbook Pro 13". Whose picture I had posted earlier. Which also forced me to buy one because I wanted to experience the web on my Apple Macbook pro using Wi-Fi.

I surfed through the online stores and even visited physical one to make a right choice for me. I had seen and gone through the features of various modems from different brands like Apple, Belkin, D-link, Netgear, Cisco etc. Before visiting a physical store or even browsing online stores I have simply prepared a list of my requirements, which are given below.

The price should have to be with in a range $50 to $60, if it exceeds then this time will be a miss and then have to wait for the next month.
It should be an ADSL supported because my ISP requires.
It should have the capability to create a wireless network to a greater extent. So that I and my friends can share.
It should have all the latest security features like WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPS and a firewall.
Extended warranty.
At least four LAN port, so that I can use internet on my old PC by simply connecting the LAN using ethernet cable.
A value for money product.

The unpacked picture of the modem with build-in dual 2x2 MIMO antennae.

After going through the hours of extensive research both the online and offline stores and browsing hundreds of products and going through the review, I able to take my final decision. I choose D-Link DSL-2750U to fulfill my Wi-Fi needs. Simply it has everything that were listed on my wish list.

Price is top of my wish list, whatever and whenever I buy. The price of D-link DSL-2750U is Rs.2560 or roughly $50. So, it passed the first option of my wish list.
Is it ADSL? Yes, it is an ADSL type.
It offers a greater wireless range thanks, to its build-in dual 2x2 MIMO antennae.
It has all the modern security features like WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPS and also have firewall.
It comes with a three years warranty.
It has four LAN port, so this makes the internet connection easy with my old computer.
All these comes at a price tag of just Rs.2560 or $50 is a value for money buy.

The setup is a problem because the driver CD comes with this modem simply not able to detect the modem even when it is connected to the LAN port of the computer using the ethernet cable provided. But it worked after I connected it to the LAN port of your computer using the ethernet cable provided and then typing the IP http://192.168.1.1 on the address bar of my browser and putting the username and password as 'admin'. The UI is at all not good, its pathetic. But overall it is ok and value for money package.

Flipkart is always trying something new when it comes to the supply chain

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sat, 28 Apr 2012 22:39:00 -0700

Flipkart.com, the poster company of the India's booming e-commerce industry. Running by two IIT graduates Mr.Binny Bansal and Mr.Sachin Bansal, the duo hailed from an Indian city named Chandigarh. They have various similarities like both share same surname "Bansal", hailed from same town Chandigarh, read in same type of institution "IIT" , worked in a same company Amazon.com, and last of all they share same thoughts of running an e-commerce portal "Flipkart.com".

I have purchased lots of products form them starting from books to electronics. Generally I purchase more books than any other items because they have a great collection and at the same time offer a high discount which local retailers are not familiar with. I live in a remote part of India but also managed got my book with in three to four days thanks to its selection of couriers and focus on supply chain.

I have found that they use three courier to deliver me my orders. Listed below:

Bluedart a DHL Company.
Overnite express
EMS Speed Post a Government company owned by India Post.

The last two are new addition because what ever the order I have placed before my last two orders, was delivered by Bluedart but last two order was posted to me by Overnite express and EMS Speed Post.

They are constantly changing the courier company may be for three reasons :-

May be they are not satishfied by the service provided by the previous courier company.
They may be experimenting by deploying new courier company because supplying demand to the rural consumers is a challenge for them.
The supply cost may be forcing them because they are yet to see green balance sheet.

What ever may be the reasons, they are trying to give an edge to its competitor and I am happy with their service. Thanks, to their customer first thoughts.

Bing's webmaster blogs was temporary out of service

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 26 Apr 2012 20:44:00 -0700

On 25th of April, when I was browsing Microsoft's Bing search engine I had found this message.

New iPad 2 is available from the Indian stores from today.

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 26 Apr 2012 20:40:00 -0700

After all the latest iPad 2 is going to the self of the Apple stores all over India. When I was checking my email (which I regularly do) in the morning I found this mail. We have also previously announced that Apple is going to launch iPad 2 on 27th April 2012. I have also told you why to buy new iPad 2. I have told you Where is the difference lies between iPad 2 and new iPad 2. To help you to take your decision faster.

With new iPad 2 Apple has made a major technical breakthrough in the mobile technology space.
Great going Apple.

What to choose iPad 2 or the newly launched iPad 2 ?

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 26 Apr 2012 20:23:00 -0700

This is the question that many of my friends had asked me as they get confused quite a bit after looking at this two devices when they are first time buyers. Apple’s products are attractive and same time addictive to most of the people and even I. Do you know what helps me to keep myself away from these products, the price of these utterly beautiful and intelligent devices.

I simply ask them one question and I think you should ask yourself this question before buying the device.

What you do with your iPad?

People generally use their cellphone to check mail, twits and to post status on Facebook or on the higher side they use it for editing documents on the go. But doing all these on a 3 inch devices like cellphone is quiet irritating because its screen size is very small as compared to iPad’s 9.7 inch. Which may disturb you while typing your vital mails or editing documents on the go. Then you require a camera for just clicking pictures of your “sweet heart” on the go and play some games like “Angry Bird”. The “less” speedy 3G connection is ok for you. Though the “less” speedy 3G is not be available while roaming and data pricing in India may burn your pocket. It also provides you battery backup up to 10 hours. Did not want to fork out Rs.30,000 to experience new iPad 2. Then old iPad 2 is for you.

But if you are a game, photo and video junky. Want to experience nothing but the best. Playing online games more. Living in “city of joy” Kolkata to experience newly launched 4G by Airtel India’s largest and only one telecom operator who have launched 4G. Have lots of money in yours or your Daddy’s pocket to splurge. Bit crazy while upgrading to the latest. Then new iPad 2 the “Resolutionary” powerful and faster device is for you. It has a best camera with which you can click SLR like pictures. After all it is the best tablet in the market. If you are a first time iPad buyer then go for latest newly launched iPad 2 but if you have the earlier one and use your iPad simply for viewing videos, clicking photos, editing document and playing small games like “Angry Bird”. New iPad 2 is a value for money product.

I will recommend you to go for Apple’s new iPad 2 wi-fi version if you are a first time iPad buyer. Have a unlimited broadband plan with Wi-Fi modem which may costs you Rs.1000 per month.

According to the rumor mill, Apple the maker of new iPad 2 is coming out with newer version of iPad by the year 2013.

Google's Zipper doodle is not working with Firefox

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Tue, 24 Apr 2012 09:49:00 -0700

Google did not forget the tradition of doodling, these are generally cartoons drawn and published on the homepage of Google. These doodles are generally drawings based on some important occasions, birthdays of various legendary persons or some important dates. The particular doodle is published on the site of a particular country's Google homepage (e.g. Google Published the doodle of Indian independence on 15th Aug) to which the doodle is associated.
Today Google published the doodle of the zipper while celebrating the 132nd birthday of its inventor Mr.Gideon Sundback. Zipper is used in our pantaloons, which makes it a very important tool, its importance can be felt when it goes wrong.

This time Google published an animation on their Indian homepage. This big interactive zipper opens to Google search result with result related to the Zipper inventor, while taking the mouse pointer on the animated zipper on the Google homepage.

This animation is working fine with most of the popular browsers like Chrome, Explorer, even Safari but not Mozilla's Firefox. The news publishers and various bloggers even I also think that Google want to suppress success of the open source Firefox. Google has been using it's advertising platform to promote it's open source browser Chrome. This may be a strategy developed by Google to kill it's compitator or else it may be a technological fault. The second one is just an assumption by me because technological fault is just a joke for a company armed with engineers like Mr.Page.

Adobe the software giant has opened its Indian online store to make it convinient for the Adobe software lovers. Adobe has a large portfolio of softwares ranging from Photoshop CS6 to newly launched Creative cloud. In India Adobe's softwares like Photoshop, Acrobat, Creative Suite etc are highly popular but the availability of the softwares was a major hurdle. Only two options are left on the table, either purchase DVDs of the particular Adobe software via online American stores like Amazon.com, bestbuy.com and get them shipped in India via various package and mail forwarding services or else find out one Adobe reseller in your city from where original Adobe can purchased.

When you live in a place far away from the main city like Kolkata or Mumbai (where resellers are generally used to be) then either you have to visit one or purchase via online stores as mentioned earlier or else you have keep yourself depend on pirated one. The last one is easily available in the market but when you are a professional the last option is not for you because you deserve the best.

Few Points need to know before purchasing a product via Adobe's India online Store, are given below:

The store is actually maintained by an e-commerce company named Digital river.
After purchasing any software payment can be made on Indian rupees rather than US dollars in American Stores.
The payment has to be made using plastic money like Visa / MasterCard enabled debit or credit card.
The serial number will be delivered via confirmation mail if not then log in my order section and view order history and get serial number from there.
Now only online download of the product is available and no physical product, which may be available near future.
All the prices of the product is shown on the online store is inclusive of all taxes.
Address of Adobe Indian Online store is store.adobe.com/in.

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Mon, 23 Apr 2012 07:04:00 -0700

This is the picture with which I was greeted by Twitter when I was logging into the 140 character tiny blogging site. There may be something technically problem occurred when I was logging into the social networking site sometimes ago. But the status blog of twitter did not have any message regarding this minute technical glitches. After trying to logging in second time with in minutes I became successful, which clearly showing that the engineering team of Twitter Inc is highly focussed in fixing the small and temporary technical glitches.
So a great day, at last,
Happy twitting

Where new iPad 2 is different from previous one?

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Tue, 17 Apr 2012 00:49:00 -0700

New iPad 2 is launching in India on 27th of this month that I have announced earlier. But there is a question lies in front of me i.e.Where new iPad 2 is different from previous one? New iPad is all about display, powerful processing, 4G connectivity, powerful battery and super camera.

Do iPad has a super display?

Yes, the new iPad has a super Retina display which has been used in iPhone 4 launched one year ago. It is equipped with a display which has a higher resolution than HD (High Definition) television. HD TV has a resolution of 1920 by 1080 but new Apple iPad 2 has 2048 by 1536. Which is the highest ever resolution in a 9.7 inch display. It is also equipped with 40 parent greater color saturation and an unbelievable 3.1 million pixels within same 9.7 inch display and the pixels are so close together that it is beyond the humans viewing capacity result in the original and clear color, picture and documents or ebooks and not the pixels. This clearly shows that Apple has shown a magnificent breakthrough in the display technology.

Then, What about the powerful processing ?

A powerful display require a powerful processing speed. That is true, New iPad 2 is equipped with that too. It has a Duel core A5X custom designed for iPad 2 with quad core graphics for superior and great quality display.

4G connectivity, Am I hearing right?

Yes, Sir/Madam it is equipped with forth generation connectivity. New iPad 2 have a 4G connectivity for having a faster data on the move but in India only one city has a 4G connectivity, which has been launched recently by India’s largest telecom company Airtel. But no need to worry because 3G will come to you on rescue. 3G is pricy and have a limited coverage in India. It also has Wi-Fi which will help you if you have a unlimited plan in your broadband connection at your home and a Wi-Fi modem.

How much the battery lasts?

New iPad 2 is equipped with all these powerful features without compromising on battery power. It has a powerful battery and lasts as much the time previous iPad lasts, guess right ten hours while surfing on Wi-Fi. But 4G consumes lots of power. It’s processor is designed in such a way that it consumes less but gives maximum output. But a AOL owned and managed tech news website Techcrunch reported that it takes lot’s of time to charge last month.

Than last but no the least, Tell me something about camera?

The New iPad 2 comes with great and superb camera brilliantly equipped to click sharper and vibrant picture. It has some features like hybrid infrared filter which are reserved to high definition SLR cameras. It has a ƒ/2.4 aperture and five element lens equipped with better light capturing ability and as a result of which we get super bright SLR quality image.

If you want to buy a beauty with a brain and have a lots to fork out from the pocket at least Rs.30,500 for the Wi-Fi version then go for it.
