This program is offered in conjunction with the Texas Film Round-Up. Hosted by the Texas Archives of the Moving Image, the Texas Film Commission and ENTRE Film Center.

The Texas Film Round-Up offers free digitization of Texas-related films and videotapes, including your priceless home movies! Services are offered in
exchange for the donation of a digital copy to the archive program. This award-winning public history program has resulted in the preservation of more than 45,000 films and videotapes. Participants will also be able to share a copy of their materials with ENTRE, in support of their activities to preserve and share
stories of the RGV. The last time TAMI visited the Rio Grande Valley for this project was in 2009, so we are very excited to have them join us this year!

To participate, please bring your home movies (film and video) to one of the Port Isabel Public Library [213 N. Yturria St.] between September 25 through October 4 during their hours of operation: Monday – Thursday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Locations are also available in Starr, Hidalgo, Cameron and Willacy counties.

Summer 2021 schedule will include 5 Thursday’s in July, each movie starts at 9:30 p.m.

Free family fun. Concessions are available. No hard-sided coolers are permitted. Smoking is not allowed in the park. Pets allowed, but must be on a leash and curbed. See schedule below:

The celebration comes on the heels of the September 1st transfer of the historic lighthouse from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department to the Texas Historical Commission. Vice-Chair John Crane of the Texas Historical Commission will be on hand to make welcoming remarks and the Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting on the steps of the historic structure.

The public is invited to attend. Food and drink will be offered during the reception. The Lighthouse will be open on Wednesday, October 10/2, free of admission charge, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m..

The City of Port Isabel and the Port Isabel Economic Development Corporation have been partners with the State for many decades and are happy to continue in that role,” says Calvin Byrd, Port Isabel Economic Development Board Chair. City Manager, Jared Hockema adds, “we’re happy to co-host this event with the Texas Historical Commission and Commissioners on this important day and invite the public to join in the celebration.”

Since 2004, during the summer months, family friendly movies are projected onto the side of the lighthouse. The public is invited to bring their lawn chairs, blankets and picnics for a memorable evening under the stars. Mentioned in “Texas Monthly“ as one of three reasons to “get in your car and GO!“ We invite you to get in your car and go to the Port Isabel Lighthouse and grab a memory of your own! Admission: Free. Public invited. Pets allowed, but must be kept on a leash and mindful of their well trained owners who are prepared to clean up after them. Concessions offered. No alcohol allowed. No hard-sided coolers allowed.

THE QUEEN ISABELLA CONNECTION:

In 1492, Queen Isabella financed Christopher Columbus’ exploratory expedition to this part of the New World. Community leaders in the Laguna Madre area recognized the importance of this partnership and named not just one causeway in her honor in 1954, but again in 1974, when the second causeway was constructed it too was named in her honor. On July 4, 1954, the grand opening of the first causeway was graced by the Consulate of Spain who was among the dignitaries on hand to cut the ribbon. Queen Isabella is further honored at our annual Market day each April.
