I love KISSes | Philadelphia Photographer

2012-09-06T01:08:00.000-04:00

One of the coolest options on my list of products... KISS lay-flat albums. This one below is a sample of an 8x8 I did recently for a maternity shoot. There's options ranging from an array of colors and 12x12 inches to a crazy adorable 4x4 mini album.

This has all been such an unpredictable journey for me. I can't tell you how many changes I've made in my life since beginning this blog, both creatively and personally. As far as photography goes, so much has changed in the industry of camera and equipment making. No wonder we're all evolving in this art form. Some of us are coming full circle with returning to or incorporating film into our work and some are growing along side upgraded cameras and lenses.

Creatively I've been lead into a direction I never expected, making images I didn't foresee some 7 years ago. If you can notice the changes through this blog you'll get the picture (no-pun intended). Now I'm experiencing photography in a whole new light. I began with being purely documentary in style and approach, providing no instruction or direction to my subjects, purely capturing them as they are, allowing them to see themselves in a new perspective. And while I continue to grow in this element, I'm like a newbie baby in other aspects, directing, posing, artificial lights, taxes, business, website, marketing.

Its crazy rad, and crazy insane but its worth it all. I love this art deeply; after shooting, I edit, but want to stop editing to go and shoot again and again. If you can relate to this feeling with any passion you possess, you must feel as alive as I do.

Love on a Continuum | Portrait Photographer, New Orleans LA

New Orleans - Destination Photographer

2012-07-25T03:14:00.000-04:00

I arrived back in Philadelphia after a week long stay in New Orleans this past week. I was visiting this charming and enchanting city while documenting a group of youth who are artists and masters in the making. They traveled down form Baltimore, Maryland to learn some history about New Orleans, engage in some of its unique culture and to gain an understanding of how people of African decent were affected by the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. As I'm still sorting through what I documented of the youth, I wanted to share a bit of beauty I encountered during my stay.

I met with this family last week for their first session. We had so much fun. I laughed a lot and they laughed and were full of jokes. It was also a great time trying to get Camille to smile. She is a happy baby who would normaly smile except once my huge camera was held to my face. Mama worked hard to get her to crack some smiles. Thank you Olukemi. Here's one shot from our session, more to come!

This is the second shoot we've collaborated on you may remember the first. This was her maternity shoot back in April and she has now given birth to super power twins!! Trayvon Martin

2012-03-27T22:24:00.000-04:00

The more I think about this story and the more developments I hear the more infuriating it gets. Especially as a mother, I can't even begin to imagine what Trayvon Martin's parents must be feeling, dreaming and living with right now. The story of the end of his life has become a symbol of silenced inequality and concealed injustice that plagues us. For the sake of not allowing this teen's violent death to be in vain, conversations and changes must take place on how guns, violence, racism, and prejudice thrive in this country and in the world.

I believe we are better than this.

2012-03-23T01:36:00.002-04:00

Its almost done..phew, my website is near and I can't tell you how happy I am. Its so close to being done and currently under the scrutiny of very creative beings who are my artful friends. As I've been immersed in the process for the past month and a half, I learned some very important things. One, is of course how important it is to have a portfolio to showcase your work and vision. Two, how vulnerable it is to say "here it is!" and three, how much web designers must work to do what they do, especially from scratch. Whole 'nother appreciation for web design here. Really. My portfolio site is set to be online
April 1st, not to be associated with April fools :p I am in contemplation as to whether I will transferring this blog or beginning a new one. But while that is still a seed in my brain, Port{folio} of the [Un]seen will be here back with its original web address.

Archive: J*Davey Show @ the Blockley

2012-01-27T23:24:00.000-05:00

I love live shows, especially shooting them. Anyone who has seen me shooting at a concert (wether it be on an assignment or just for kicks) has caught me singing and possibly dancing while shooting. I do manage to be still though to compensate for the blurry shots that I produce when i can't contain myself:)

Here are some shots from The J*Davey show @the Blockley here in Philadelphia this past summer. Also featuring photos of Elevator Fight and Def Sound. Deserved credit to Yusuf 'yuiE' Muhammad for putting a great lineup together.

A Personal Touch

2012-01-27T01:50:00.000-05:00

If you're here and you're reading, you're wonderful and I appreciate you. Blogging consistently has been a challenge yet my engine in sharing what I create. This blog is where I first began showcasing my work some years back and its been wonderful to hear such genuine admiration and feed back from followers and passerby. Thank you for looking, peeking in from time to time, reading, and especially your comments.

I feel inspired to share some of the same love here, in this case, vendor love with Kraft&Jute for being so great. Their service is punctual and they are friendly and open to answer any questions. I couldn't be happier. I found them last year and have continued to use their packaging service. Its so valuable to find small local businesses like theirs that aline with my vision. i love giving credit where its due:)

Cheers & Happy New Year!

Luv in Night Shades

2011-09-18T01:42:00.001-04:00

"Love comes in all forms, shapes, sizes..." and apparently potatoes. The food gods must know i won't pass up the opportunity to help reveal how beautiful nature can be. What are the chances. I was going through some small potatoes I was prepping for dinner and I ran into these two at the bottom of the bowl....

charming at best... taste great I'm sure, but i'll never know since i had to compost them after some busy and productive weeks, in other words I took too long to photograph them. However, they remain in my pictorial memory <3
