The Cheese Plate PDX is a food cart located in the food cart pod on 23rd & Alberta along with other favorited food carts like Captured by Porches & Retrolicious.
Like it says in their name, The Cheese Plate PDX is ALL ABOUT THE CHEESE. Not just any cheese… but cheese that is local to Portland and the Northwest. The owners Nick & Carina are excited and committed to sharing local products and they even go as far as making their own in house crackers, Pâté, and pickled veggies.
They have others options on the menu utilizing their great cheeses for multiple variations of the Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

I am a true cheese lover at heart. I can really appreciate all the various types with unique textures and the art of pairing different types of cheeses with other edibles.
What I enjoy about this cart is they appreciate cheese just like me if not MORE (if that is even possible?)

Sadly when we visited the Cheese Plate PDX they were recovering along with the rest of the carts in their pod from a mass break-in. The previous night multiple carts were broken into on Alberta including all of the carts in the 23rd pod. Gas lines were cut, power lines were cut, among other damages leading to all their refrigeration to go off. Some things could be saved but a lot of carts had to restock and make efforts to get their equipment up and running again. This is so frustrating that people in our own community do this businesses, not just any businesses but small local businesses! All the food carts in the 23rd & Alberta pod were coming together as a “pod family” and helping each other out. One cart owner was hopping cart-to-cart with extra parts making sure they had what they needed. This sight was humbling to see carts come together and support each other in such disappointing circumstances. It was really cool to see the food cart owners be so positive and had such an upbeat outlook on such a disheartening act. Thumbs up to ALL food carts & their owners and how much effort they put into their cart to serve Portland! I will continue to go out and support these guys because they are so awesome for making the Portland food culture such a great taste to be part of.

WHAT WE ORDERED:
The Oregon Cheese Plate $12 (single) 4 of Oregon’s Delicious cheeses, cart made pub cheese, seasonal condiments, today’s pickles, saffron & rose popcorn, & goat cheese chocolate truffle with cart made crackers.

About the Hollywood Theater Pancake Film Festival:
‘Founded in Chicago, Illinois back in the bygone year of 2007, the International Pancake Film Festival is now the world’s oldest film fest dedicated exclusively to the pancake. Since its inception, the IPFF has put on five original and different programs, each one showcasing wild and diverse short films made by flapjack enthusiasts from all corners of the globe. For their first trip to the West Coast, IPFF organizers have assembled a program from some of the past pancake shorts that have tickled, thrilled, or just plain confused them the most. This was certainly no easy task– the Video Vaults at IPFF headquarters are absolutely brimming with the most wonderful, oddball paeans to the flapjack that have ever been filmed. As the IPFF enters its sixth year, we extend an invitation to join us in fluffy reflection and enjoy a complimentary stack of hotcakes as we screen a selection of shorts celebrating the first five years of the IPFF.’

Twigs Bistro & Martini Bar is the newest addition to Bridgeport Village in Tigard taking space in the vacant Macaroni Grill location near McCormick and Schmick & California Pizza Kitchen.
All four Oregon Macaroni Grill locations CLOSED fall of 2012 making room for something different and a chance for Twigs to expand. Twigs is originally from Spokane Washington with 9 total locations including their newest addition in Oregon at Bridgeport Village. Their food menu had a wide range of American fare and featuring 36 signature martinis.

We went for Happy Hour and had a pleasant first experience. They have quite the selection on their happy hour drink & food menu which is nice. I was expecting maybe more Italian fare with the “bistro” in their name or even pub food… but their menu has something for everyone with both flavors. Inside the decor is cool toned with modern decor with visual artistic touches and a lovely outdoor patio with a Twig inspired fire pit. I’m looking forward to coming back and enjoying a cocktail with friends on the patio this summer. Twigs cocktails are creative and fun but nothing really stood out to me food wise. No complaints, just mediocre food that left me with nothing really memorable to crave or go back to.

Prost! is a cool German pub located in North Portland off Mississippi Ave serving up authentic German pub food and an impressive tap list of German beer. Their outdoor patio/bier garden is always hopping when the sun is out and has a small bar feel inside.

‘Biers range from light Lagers, to Weissbiers, to Schwarzbier, and come from numerous breweries such as Spaten, Paulaner, and Ayinger, among others; they are served in traditional sizes spanning the half liter, to the mass(1.L), to der stiefel(2.L) (aka “das boot”)’.

I ordered a serving of their famous Franziskaner Weissbier known as the “Banana Beer” which is alight crisp wheat ale with a subtle clove aroma and hints of banana and spice! I ordered my drink in the largest size which is the liter, but yes it does get bigger with their “das boot” which I was told you have to have a party larger than 3+ to order it because it is the equivalent to 8.5 beers which is 102 ounces! The food menu was a little confusing because it is a mix of Germanglish ( German+English). But the wait staff were nice and helped us with some insight on what to order. We stuck with their most popular item which was the Bratwurst Sandwich. My sandwich was just enough to hit the spot but nothing to really write home about. Bottom line this place is ALL ABOUT THE GERMAN BEER and there are tons to choose from by the tap & by the bottle.

WHAT WE ORDERED:

Franziskaner Weissbier Beer $9.50 liter

Fresh baked Bavarian Pretzel served with salt and German Mustard. $4

Bratwurst Sandwhich Original Bavarian Sausage Co. Bratwurst (Original or Spicy Bier) served on a roll with Sauerkraut, Curried Ketchup, and stone group mustard with Gewürzgurken (pickle) on the side. $6.50

Spints Alehouse was out last stop on our Dishcrawl adventure. You can read about all our other stops HERE, HERE and HERE. When we arrived at Spints I was really hoping for something sweet to end my night. The culture and vibe of Spints is Germany meets Portland. Owner Alyssa Gregg serves up German food with a Portland twist. Her goal was to lighten up and change customers minds about the reputation of German food being heavy. The menu is ever changes seasonally and is short and sweet. I like a short menu so it doesn’t take me forever to decide. It also usually means that a lot of thought and quality ingredients went into each dish.

Gregg also smokes her own sausages in house which I hear is a must try! I guess I will just have to come back! The overall vibe of the restaurant is warm and mascuile. When you walk in you may mistake this restaurant for a bar. People mainly come here to drink but the food is delicious too. They have a small room off to the right where a family could sit and enjoy the fare.

Here is what we tried:
Homemade S’mores
Flourless Espresso Torte
Apple Bread Pudding (fruit changes seasonally)

All the dessert’s were rich an fabulous. I wish I had a piece of that bread pudding right now!

I will be back soon because I love me some german sausages and am anxious to try some of Spints home smoked sausages.

June was our third stop on the Edible East Burnside Dishcrawl. You can read about our first {HERE} and our second {HERE}. June takes great pride in sourcing their food all locally. They strive to support local farms and be as sustainable as possible. All this is reflected in Chef Gregory’s dishes. Their menu changes frequently and is based on seasonal produce. This gives June’s customer’s lots of variety and delicious food to choose from. June is only open a few hours a day so make sure you check out their website below for times.

On this evening Chef Gregory prepared quite an array of impressive dishes for our palates to try.

Here’s what we tried:
Carpaccio Porchini
Roast Asparagus with homemade lamb prosciutto
Handmade Ravioli with a spicy ‘nduja filling

I was very impressed with everything we tried at June except one thing. The Handmade Raviolis were so incredibly spicy it almost ruined everything I ate. I was only able to eat half of one because it was so over the top. I really enjoy a good kick but this was just too much. On the other hand everything was absolutely delicious and you can tell a lot of attention to detail and passion went into every plating.

I gave June two forks because the raviolis were just too spicy. If I had ordered them for a meal I would have been very disappointed. The decor and vibe is great for a date night and I would return but try something else on the menu.

Side Notes:
Limited hours
Street Parking Only
Great for a date night
