Losing Weight

Why is losing weight so hard?

While some people do have a difficulty gaining weight, I think that the vast majority are having problems with obesity and the health complications that come with it.

And now that we are already in the middle of 2012, people are already working hard to shed the poundage they gained during the last holiday. The diet and workout are for the purpose of looking good during the summer vacation. Well at least that is about 2 months away.

I wonder if I can do it? I mean lose weight in 2 months? And I mean considerable weight. Darn, it is just so hard!

Marquez Cheated?

Many people complained that the decision to declare Manny Pacquiao winner over Juan Manuel Marquez was unfair. They said that Marquez fought a good fight and that the event could have at least ended in a draw, if not Marquez winning.

But Drummer Panda has come to the rescue of Manny as he did a blow by blow analysis of the event. It seemed that Marquez cheated in the fight! It seemed natural but he kept on stepping on Pacquaio's foot. It is one too many an event to become coincidental, don't you think?

Once again, Manny Pacquiao lords it over Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez in the ring!!! Yahoo! One more victory for our Filipino fighter.

Despite the problems and the controversies, because a lot of people do not agree with the judges' decision, Manny is still the winner for me. He is a Filipino and I am proud of him. This blog has always had a lot of write ups about Manny. Is it obvious that I am a fan? hahaha

I have nothing against him in the boxing ring. I just don't want him running for president. LOL

My Bad Experience at Negrense Holiday Spa

Last Tuesday, I was at Kundutel for some arrangements for a coming event. It was quite late in the afternoon when I finished with my meeting, so I just walked towards the entrance of Goldenfield Commercial Complex along Araneta Street, Bacolod City.

Then I saw that where before was a red light bar at Goldenfield is now a spa called Negrense Holiday Spa. They had big posters outside about their salon services and since I needed a manicure for an event that I was attending in a couple of days, I went in.

The place was pretty nice but I just can't describe the smell when I went in. Was it coffee? Chocolate? I can't figure it out. But as long as it wasn't dung or urine, it was fine. I am pretty picky with smells because of my rhinitis, but this was fine with me. I was just going to get a manicure but then I also decided that I would want to relax and so I had a foot spa, which includes a scrub. My soles really need some scrubbing.

The ushered me to the first cubicle that was covered by a curtain. There were a couple of lazy boys inside. But before the service, I asked to go to restroom first. It was clean and well maintained but their lavatory seriously needs some arrangement and a hand wash. When I got back, there was no sign of my therapist. I got a Newsweek magazine and read two articles when somebody peeked. It was not my therapist yet. It was another therapist who was curious about me. Funny.

After about 15 minutes, my therapist appeared and greeted me. Then she came back with her box of stuff for the manicure. Next she came with the foot spa machine. Then she came back with the scrubs. Then she came back again with the wash basin with water (which I later learned was for rinsing). When she was about to turn on the machine, she realized that she was not able to put water in the machine so she got up again to get water. And I was like....what the? But I was determined to have a relaxing time and to keep my mouth shut so I just let her.

When finally, after about 30 minutes, we were ready to start, I realized that the lazy boy was not very nice to those who are below 5'4" or 5'6". If you want a good soak, you have to lean forward so that your feet can be soaked in the machine. But I did not want to do that. What the heck was the lazy boy for if I will just lean forward the whole time my feet were being soaked? So I leaned back and let the therapist solve the problem.

You know what she did? She let the machine keep running while my feet were dangled in the air. I asked her what we are to do but she just fidgeted. I guess that keeping the motor running appeased her conscience. I was getting impatient at this point so I asked her who was going to do my manicure. She replied that she was. So I told her that I would like to have another person do my nails because if both the foot spa and manicure will be done at the same time, then maybe they could finish simultaneously and my waiting would be cut short. I was told that she will handle the manicure while she would call for another one to do the foot spa.

Okay, fine, whatever.

So the first girl started the manicure and the second girl came to do my foot spa maybe after ten minutes. You have to realize that the whole time this was going on, my feet were dangling in the air and the machine was still on. The second girl saw the problem and asked the first girl why she did not add more water? So the second girl got more water. But even if she almost filled up the machine, my feet could not reach it. Let's face it, I am a short girl so I guess those who are short should have their foot spa done elsewhere.

Anyway, the second girl started her routine for the foot spa. And it was good. I tried to relax. Then the first girl kept complaining that her eyes kept shedding tears because of the light. She had a small lamp, much like a study lamp near my hand because the light was dim in the area. She kept complaining the whole time. I asked her if she cried every time she served a manicure and she said yes. Oh my goodness, what a sad tale! Gee I felt bad for her but she said that there was no other manicurist around so what could we do? I have already wasted so much time there.

When the time came for her to do my right hand, I asked her how she will do it because my seat is placed near the wall. She wondered too because she was actually expecting me to reach over my right hand to the left side. And I was like, no way! I could get a backache doing so. So we moved the chair and she moved the portable table and her desk lamp to the other side. Then she started complaining again about her eyes.

I really wonder if the management is aware of these things. Or it was just my manicurist who was a complainer. But all in all, I had a bad experience there. I am not sure if their body massage is good, but surely I will never have a foot spa or manicure or pedicure there. I could get a cheaper foot spa in a salon and get better service and have a more comfortable position.

I tried very hard to keep my cool. They were lucky that I have been trying to live up to my mantra, Be nice, for some time now. If I had visited them a month ago and they treated me this way, they will surely get a piece of my mind. But I thought that if I will get angry, I will get a high blood pressure and in the end, I will lose. So never again.

I got this set of instructions from a friend's Facebook account and tried it. What have I got to lose right? And in fact, it was awesome!

Pastor Zachery Tims' Death

Pastor Zachery Tims was the founding pastor of the Florida mega-church called the New Destiny Christian Center, which he started in 1996.

Tims was found inside a Times Square hotel room and news reports say that he has an envelope with white powder inside his pocket. It is not clear whether he was with somebody.

It is really sad how Pastor Zachery fell from grace. He was a man whom God has changed so much and he had touched so many lives. The church that he started has grown into a membership of 8,000. But 2 years ago, it was reported that Pastor Tims filed for a divorce against his wife of 15 years after he admitted to having an affair with a stripper. I am not sure about the whole story though, like why he had to divorce her or if it was her bidding. But the result is a broken marriage.

His death seems mysterious. But I hope that if ever, the church members will not become a like sheep that had gone astray. I hope that another new leader will rise up in their midst.

I am not a Catholic. But last time, when I saw how one artist put up an exhibit at the CCP depicting the many religious items in sexual connotations, I was appalled!

We are supposed to be claiming that we are a Christian country and we do that to things that signify our faith?

Many religious groups complained to the Cultural Center of the Philippines but their complaints fell on deaf ears. Then I saw the interview of one office at the CCP who defended the exhibit saying that they will not take it down because, "Who is to say what is good and and what is bad art?"

And I am like, what? If she calls it art, not too many agree with it. Being arrogant about it just goes to show that she is not a religious person. But she has to understand that we are living in the Philippines and this is primarily a Catholic country. If artists are so bold as to mock God and our faith, then I would not wonder why grafters, corrupters, liars, murderers, gamblers, and the like can rub shoulders in church and continue to do their ways outside. Tsk. Tsk...

New Blade Spa Branch to Open at the Casino Hotel

I heard that The Blade Spa will open another branch at the Casino Filipino Hotel, Goldenfields Commercial Complex, here in Bacolod City.

Well I think that is a great market for them. They will be catering to the south side of Bacolod as well as the tourists staying at the two other hotels at the Goldenfield area, not just the Casino Hotel. The other hotels are Kundutel and Carribean Hotel.

The Blade Spa is fast expanding. They now have four branches, including the their main branch in the downtown area. One of their fascinating branches is The Blade Spa at Mambukal. Such a lovely, laid back place surrounded by green forests.

Now, I want a massage at The Blade Spa.

Milk Powder Price Increase

Last month, we started Dindin on the new GainPlus Advance milk powder. It is made by Abbott, the same maker of Pediasure. We had already consumed three big cans of Pediasure so we thought of changing brands again.

I am like that, I cannot stick to a single brand of something, even her diapers and vitamin supplements. I change or shift to other brands after a certain point because maybe, subconsciously I think that the product becomes ineffective after some time. I dunno really. haha

Anyway, last month, I bought the 1.8kg can of GainPlus Advance and I remembered that it was only more than P1,000 per can. But this month, I bought another can and got it for P1,270! Whoa! P100 difference in just one month? I am not sure if Gaisano made a mistake in their pricing, but that is a big difference.

Next month, I am thinking of shifting back to Pediasure. And then maybe I will just get a cheaper milk powder so that she can consume this on top of the recommended two glasses of Pediasure a day.

Victoria Beckham and her Very Thin Pregnant Body

I knew that Victoria Beckham is pregnant and I think that she has already delivered her baby girl, her fourth child with husband David Beckham, through C-Section in Los Angeles the other day.

But what I was shocked to see was her pregnancy photo on her full term below from mailonlinecom.

She is seen with her husband with her husband David performing a pregnancy exercise. I just think that for woman who is about to pop, she is so thin! She is reported to be really excited because finally they are expecting a girl after having three boys, but man, is she actually eating anything?

I do like skinny stars like the buff Nicole Richie and Katie Holmes. But this is too much. She looks anorexic. And to think that she is pregnant. What's her doctor's say on this?

Ways to Earn Money

I am looking for ways to earn more money because you know, we are already a family and we have growing needs. But honestly, I am already too busy and I think that my plate is already full. What I would want is something that keeps me busy but that also keeps me well compensated. But I also want to have extra time for myself, for my husband, and most especially, my precious little one, Dindin. After all, the main reason that I am working is to provide for her so it would just be futile if I could not spend time with her.

Sometimes, when I read on the new about people who get easy money, I cannot help but wish that for myself. Sometimes it is an inheritance from somebody they never knew. Or it's just that somebody gave them a big amount of money to manage. Or they won a sports bet by fluke. It is already their last money because they are also down to their last cent, but when they gave it all to luck, they won.

But I am not going to use my money that way because of course we know that not everyone wins a game. It is all by chance and many more people have lost their dough that way than those who won. So I would rather earn my money the hard way, or the easier way, but not that because I am scared to take risks. And well, it is not exactly something that I would like to do or would like my daughter to follow. I have not been one who is known to do that, not even with I was younger.

Okay, I gotta go. Baby is now awake and have to feed her. Ta-ta, peeps! Will have to work in awhile.

The Birthday Month

It's July now and it is my birth month.

Instead of rejoicing, I often find myself in a very difficult time. That is because it is the middle of the year. When I was younger, well the classes had just started becoming serious and well, we are already preparing for pre-lim exams.

Now that I have a child, it is because the mid-year packs in a lot of payables that I am virtually left with nothing to use for a celebration or even just a simple treat to myself. But anyway, I can just pray and be thankful. I don't really need a celebration, but praises should just be due to my God who has kept me all these years.

Getting Company Freebies

I like getting company freebies, especially of entertainment giants, because that means that you either have direct contact with them or you were able to attend an event that is only for invited guests. That is why when I was still working with a cable company before, I really enjoyed the promotional items of the cable suppliers. There were not too many of us that were given those premium items so you are sort of like a cut above the rest. haha

I thoroughly enjoyed the jackets, luggage tags, shirts, folders, stuff toys, stationery, bags, and corporate pens. And oh, we also have those character and logo pins. I really loved them because they are made of good quality materials so they like considered collectibles. I just miss those days. Now, the only thing I got from them is a desk calendar. buhuhu But last year, they gave me a canvas bag because of the ads that I was placing in their cable classifieds section. Well, better than nothing I guess.

Those were the days that I worked with a cable company. Now that I no longer work with them, that means no more exclusive events, no more premium items, and no more cable connection. I mean, of course, I can still have cable connection if I want to, but when I was employed with them, our monthly fee was waived. So meaning, employees get free cable. Imagine that! That is great savings, especially now that the monthly subscription fee is P700! That is a lot of money. Oh well, some good things don't last, I guess.

Anyway, I am still collecting promotional items wherever I would get them. I just love them! haha Even if I do not have a lot of space in the house, I could still use another ball pen, cardholder or notebook, right?

Studying Art History

I have always liked arts, especially when I took up a humanities course in college. I love appreciating different kinds of art forms and I learned these stemmed from different era in history.

I just think that this subject is fascinating because then you can get a glimpse of the Old World, which I am thoroughly hooked. It is just an interesting subject that I cannot help but think that I must have live in a time that has passed, or that I am an old soul, as they say, although I do not really believe that.

If given the chance, I would want some further studies on art history maybe in Europe, but given our financial standing, it is just not possible. However, I just learned that I can still study art history even while staying at home. This is made possible because of the many Online schools that are now scattered on the web.

Online schools are now offering online degree programs in art history and it is just perfect for me. That means I can pursue my interest at a fraction of a cost than studying abroad, although of course, that would be a different experience. But if it is just knowledge I am after, then online courses just might be the thing for me. I am just browsing through those offerings to look for reasonable rates because really, I do not have a big budget for it and I will not really make a career about it. It is just an interest, so it would have to be something that is reasonably priced.

I also learned that there are scholarship grants or subsidies being offered, such as at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov so I will just have to find out if I am qualified. This just might be my ticket to pursue my dreams of having further education. I love this idea! Mwah!

Long Overdue Dentist Visit

My husband and I are long overdue in our visit to the dentist. The last time we had our teeth cleaned was before I got pregnant and now my daughter is already a little more than 2 years old and we still haven't made a dental appointment! Tsk Tsk.

Actually that dentist that we last visited had a clinic near our house so that is pretty convenient, right? But honestly, his hand was a little too heavy and he would hit our gums or our teeth and it can be painful.

The experience was nowhere like what is offered in the David Hua Dental House with dentist in brisbane. They are very specialized and keen on giving only the best service to their clients. They really care for the dental health of each patient and not just their money. They are also very up to date in their services and have the newest dental equipment.

How I wish our neighborhood dentist is the same!

Working on Crafts

I like working on crafts projects especially with my daughter but I never really thought of selling our projects. After all, they do not really look good and I still have to master my craftsmanship. What we do is really just like elementary school projects and if anything, that is just to stimulate my daughter into thinking, seeing, calculating, and using her hands. hehe

But as a business, oh well, not for now. But I have seen through Amazon that there is a book that teaches artistic and creative people on how to sell crafts online. I think that is a great book.

This venture is something that I should really look into if I want to make extra income. Family expenses are growing and we need every penny that can augment our budget,

Getting Into Usana

Not too many of you know but I am a member of USANA. But so far, I only have one recruit. My recruit works hard so she has already earned so many points. It is just too bad though that I can only earn from her efforts if I have accomplished their pairing system.

That means I need to have two people under me who are hard workers so that they can equal each other's points. Once they reach a certain number of points, I get to earn. But since, I only have one downline, I am not earning from her. buhuhu

I have already invited my friends and relatives to different seminars and trainings of USANA but nobody has signed up yet. Maybe I need to read the book about Guerrilla Multilevel Marketingby Conrad Levinson that they say is effective for those who are into network marketing.

The book is supposed to guide people on how to bring in new people to your network if you have already exhausted everyone in your address book and phone book. Maybe this is something that I need in order to become successful with USANA. Who knows?

House Dress

Being a stay at home mom and having my work here inside my bedroom, I always wear a house dress or just wearing beach shorts and old, loose t-shirts. Yes, I know that I do not look nice but these are comfortable wear. After all, I do not turn on our air conditioning all day. Wearing clothes like those office uniforms is really unreasonable.

But honestly, I do miss wearing a uniform to work. Whereas non-comformists hate doing so because you are just part of the humdrum without being able to express your creativity, I think that is very practical. If you have a uniform to work, you would not have to worry every morning what to wear because that has already been decided for you. At the same time, you are not pressured to buy new clothes always, as opposed to wearing creative wear all the time. I think that uniforms are a reasonable alternative. You can still express your creativity with using accessories that you think define you.

I really those nursing scrubs because they are very comfortable. And take a look at the nurses, they always have their uniforms and they are not complaining. I do not have a problem wearing scrubs to work or wearing them to the mall. After all, if I am a nurse, there is really nothing to be ashamed of wearing that uniform right?

I already started working freelance about 9 years ago. That is a long time ago. That means, I no longer have Social Security that is paid by the company. But I continued to pay for mine so that I will have retirement benefits, as well as maternity and sickness benefits.

Additionally, I pay PAGIBIG Fund from time to time so that when I retire I could also have lump sum. And also so that if I so desire, I can file a housing loan with them.

You see, working freelance is swell and all that but we also have to think about the future. Working freelance means that sometimes we have work, sometimes we don't. We don't have gold IRA so what I do is, I have forced savings. Several years ago, I started on two insurance policies that are supposed to grant me some lump sum by the time I reach 55 and 60. I also have a time deposit that I add on to from time to time, like I would a Social Security. These are for my retirement. And now that I am married, that would be for both my husband and myself. That reminds me, since that will be for the two of us, we need to save some more.

Having
IRA gold is a good thing. You might find yourself having salary deductions every single time, but when you get old and not really able to work, you can really use this money to support your needs.

Wow, it would be nice if I can save up as much as gold 401k in dollars, but I only have a few thousands in pesos in savings. Tsk. Tsk. Let's work some more. :-D And save for our future.
