Welcome to the Positive Newscast - your source for positive and inspiring news stories from around the world!

A new social networking site called MakeGirlfriends.com helps women find and develop true friendships with each other. The site launches on August 1st, which is National Girlfriends Day.

Nancy Shields, founder of MakeGirlfriends.com, is a pro at finding and making new girlfriends. She travels the country for work and pleasure, staying in different areas for several months at a time. Her ability to make girlfriends, not just acquaintances, has helped her build an amazing network of “girlfriends” from coast to coast. This ability allows her to forge lasting friendships, and become quickly acclimated to new towns.

Nancy recognized that a major demographic was being ignored, and thought: “Why not create a website where women can meet other women, and find inspirational content that is focused specifically for them?” MakeGirlfriends.com is ideally positioned to serve this niche demographic that has almost limitless potential.

Nancy says, “The goals of my site are simple; to provide a place for women to Meet, Share, and Inspire. Women can create a free profile and be matched up with other women of similar interests in their geographic area. There will be inspirational content specifically for women, and a Your Voice section where women can share their individual and unique inspirational stories.”

#9 Positive News: The University of Santa Monica: Bringing more loving into the world

Download program

Welcome to the Positive Newscast - your source for positive and inspiring news stories from around the world!

This past Wednesday, July 21st, over four hundred people gathered at the University of Santa Monica in Santa Monica, California for “What if God was one of us?” - an informational evening on Spiritual Psychology and relationships.

Drs. Ron and Mary Hulnick the president and chief academic officer of the University of Santa Monica facilitated the evening, taking questions from the audience. They shared that the goal of Spiritual Psychology is to gain release from conditioned patterns, and in the context of relationships the goal is to focus on how each relationship can be used to support spiritual growth. For them, that means experiencing and sharing more loving, our true nature. They recognize that relationships have value not simply because they give you the opportunity to share loving, but they also allow you to support each other through mirroring and triggering your unresolved issues, which helps us to increase our awareness of ourselves as loving beings.

Two powerful principles wove their way through the Drs’ responses: 1) There is no such thing as right or wrong, only choices and consequences, and 2) Take personal responsibility for your own internal disturbance regardless of what you think caused it.

These principles eliminate any opportunity to judge another person and pretend to be better than any one else. They also eliminate the possibility of being a victim in any situation. Our upsets and pain become fully our responsibility to take care of independent of any external circumstance. There is freedom and power in living by these principles. They are both humbling and empowering at the same time, and it is these qualities that allow us to love more freely and give more fully.

Drs. Ron and Mary Hulnick closed the evening with eight keys to successful relationships:

1. Be willing to give up personal space
2. Pay attention to the little things (small kindnesses)
3. Keep your agreements
4. Take responsibility for your own upset
5. Share gratitude and appreciation regularly
6. Be a really good listener
7. Don’t complain about your partner with your friends
8. Your job is not to change your partner. Your job is to love your partner.

The University of Santa Monica is the Worldwide Center for the Study and Practice of Spiritual Psychology. They are helping to bring more loving and wisdom into the world one soul at a time. USM can be found on the Internet at: www.universityofsantamonica.edu
Here's some fresh positive news from Club Fearless member Morten Spindler Gaedt in Denmark.

Patients in the recovery section at Aarhus University Hospital need much less medication when they wake up to music. The use of analgesic and sedative drugs can be reduced by up to 50 percent if a patient is allowed to wake up after an operation with gentle music in the ears.

The hospital staff has experimented with music for awakening purposes for several years and has worked with Maysound to develop a "music bar" which can be placed around the patient's head, writes magazine Southern, published by Region Midtjylland.

The music is nature-based and gives most patients a sense of peace and security. Two thirds of patients make use of the hospital's special composed music, while the other third wants mostly New Age, classical or music by artist Kaare Norge.

A study has shown that 98 percent of patients in the recovery room are satisfied with the soothing music.

Thanks to fearless newscaster Morten Spindler Gaedt for reporting this story. Morten can be reached at:
And coming up August 30th and 31st in Albuquerque, New Mexico, GAMES THAT MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH: A WORKSHOP IN PLAYFULNESS AS A LIFE SKILL with FUNSMITH BERNIE DeKOVEN.

Laughter Games can be played with large groups, small groups, couples, adults, and children. They are games that involve fantasy and creativity, games that require little or moderate physical activity. Through your participation in this workshop you will learn how to motivate people who are otherwise apathetic and reluctant to exercise to engage in safe and gentle physical exercise under cover of games. Exercise is work but playing is fun. People who play and enjoy their play become animated and are inspired to engage physically more than they would otherwise. Laughter Games are practical tools you can use to help clients and patients diffuse stress and you can adapt these games to the specific abilities and mood of a given group to maximize their benefits.

This workshop is sponsored by the Association for Humanistic Psychology.
Yesterday I talked about a great new website called ThankingOfYou.com - today I want to tell you about a fantastic new way to articulate and share your gratitude! GoodListDaily.com asks the question, "What are you grateful for today?" and offers hundreds of lists of "good things" sent in by life-affirming individuals. You can access these lists on GoodListDaily.com or otherwise subscribe to the daily lists by email or in a feed reader. I myself am both a subscriber and a contributor to GLD.

http://goodlistdaily.com/

I especially like Theresa's contributions - she is an artist, writer and "collector of shiny things" from Tucson, Arizona.

Theresa's Good Lists can be found at:

“Who’s made a difference in your life? A teacher, old friend, a rescue worker, charity, soldier or stranger?

People come and go in a lifetime, often never knowing the lasting positive influence they've had on another. No matter where on this bustling earth they roam, the people who've helped us and shaped us deserve to know how; they deserve a heartfelt 'Thank you.'"

Those are the words of Nora Firestone, a Virginia Beach-based journalist and founder of ThankingOfYou.com, the Web-based “monumental movement” for posting stories of gratitude that recognize, affirm and honor the people who’ve made a difference in our lives.

Firestone says gratitude facilitates shifts in perspective that motivate us to take care of and honor our good health and that it naturally fuels the machine of perpetual positivity.

"Expression of gratitude carries with it potentially profound benefits for both giver and recipient, pertaining to physical, emotional, mental and overall well-being," says Firestone.

So take a look at ThankingOfYou.com, where you can read and post stories of gratitude - it's definitely worth a pilgrimage!

#1 Inspiring People: Overcoming adversity: Dr. Pam Garcy interviews Mimi Ramirez

Download program
In the interview, Ramirez talks a little about this journey and shares her tips for those who may be overcoming adversity.
