Bellville Rock City is a collector’s issue containing an Audio CD with 13 of Bellville’s most prominent Rock acts and a DVD with a 30 minute documentary shortfilm entitled “12 Mile Stone”, which gives the viewer an access all areas tour with Fokofpolisiekar, aKING, Ashtray Electric and other Bellville groups. The DVD also includes 10 music Videos and 8 Mp3’s of some rare and some previously unreleased songs, including a Fokofpolisiekar gem “Fokn blades”. The booklet is a 48 page collector’s book in which band members share photos and experiences

Artists on this compilation include Ashtray Electric, New Holland, Fokofpolisiekar, Lukraaketaar, Die Heuwels Fantasties, K.O.B.U.S! , Tatum, Jax Panik, Foto Na Dans, Springbok Nude Girls,Thieve, Van Coke Kartel and aKING.

Here are some pictures taken at the launch of the aKING LTD Edition T-Shirt Exhibition that was held at the Kunst House in Cape Town this past Tuesday.

This is a very exciting concept and is the first for its kind in South Africa.
19 of South Africa’s top graphic designers and fine artist were carefully selected to design a t-shirt for aKING.The Levi’s® brand will be manufacturing the t-shirts, ensuring that the product is of the highest quality and limited to only 20 t-shirts per design. This makes each item exclusive and a once off collectors item.

Not only will aKING be exhibiting t-shirts but there will also be LTD edition Hard cover books on sale. The book will be created by The President ‘The brains behind the MK Brucelee lucky packets.’ These books will showcase the artists involved and have colour pictures of the t-shirts that will be on exhibition.

After the exhibition 6 designs will be chosen at random and will then be showcased in Levi’s® stores nationwide as part of the Levi’s® 1 in 100 campaign.
The t-shirts will be on show at Vida-e cafes for a month before they go to Levi’s® Stores.

aKING’s debut album “Dutch Courage” was released on 1 February 2008. The album was recorded at BSharp Studios in Boksburg and contains 11 original English rock tracks.

After bursting onto the South African scene in December with their first hit single ‘The Dance’ it was a given that aKING was going places. The first single “The Dance” is play-listed on 5fm Radio South Africa and has reached the no 1 chart position on the 5fm Hi 5 at 5 Chart, as well as the no 1 position on the following campus radio stations: Tuks fm, UJ fm, RMR, MFM and Kovsie fm. This was also immediately noticed by the long time friends and fans that form part of the Oppikoppi Productions crew. Even before anyone from the OK offices had a chance to see the band perform live there were talks amongst the two camps to work together and meetings were being scheduled.

It is thus with great pride that Oppikoppi Productions welcome aKING to their agency roster. Oppikoppi Productions will operate as exclusive agents for aKING, working closely with Brendan Sterley at Punkskelm management to not only make them one of the busiest and sought after artists in South Africa but to also break into the international market by conquering one bar at a time.

The second single “Safe as Houses” has been play listed on national student radio stations and has also been play listed on Jacaranda FM and is climbing up the charts country wide at a steady pace. Accompanied by a brilliant video made by Fly on the Wall productions this is sure to be the next big hit. The music video is currently on the MK Top 10 chart.
