<p>Isn&#8217;t that quote so hilarious &#8230; and just so true? There really is a &#8220;negative committee&#8221; that is having continual meetings in our minds. It&#8217;s conducting business of its own and of course leading the charge when it comes to stirring up all of our doubts.</p>
<p>I never really used to understand how much damage this &#8220;negative committee&#8221; was doing until I started taking a closer look.</p>
<p><strong>This &#8220;negative committee&#8221; was extremely active whenever I was trying to accomplish something, make a change or break a bad habit.</strong></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>It would continue to bring up <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2012/01/05/what-you-must-know-to-accomplish-anything-you-really-want/">doubts</a> until it finally convinced me that I couldn&#8217;t do something</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>It advised me when things weren&#8217;t going to work out and when it was best for me to just move on</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>It focused on everything that was not coming together and made sure that it overshadowed everything that was working</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>It even determined when something wasn&#8217;t <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2012/02/16/how-to-make-sure-you-arent-thinking-too-small-get-what-you-really-want/">&#8220;realistic&#8221;</a> and not worth trying<span id="more-9136"></span></em></p>
<p>And, the crazy thing is I didn&#8217;t even realize how much control this &#8220;negative committee&#8221; had and how much I was listening to it.</p>
<p>For the most part, I used to let the &#8220;negative committee&#8221; call all the shots. I let it decide what was really possible.</p>
<p><strong>But, not anymore.</strong></p>
<p>I am now all about taking control of my &#8220;negative committee&#8221; and of course I want you to join me and do the same. Why?</p>
<p>Because that is how we really are able do <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2011/12/11/the-3-keys-to-success-and-making-your-big-idea-come-true/">everything we are capable of</a> and stop getting in our own way.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ve got to get control of our &#8220;negative committee&#8221; and the reality is that it isn&#8217;t going to just disappear completely. We&#8217;re human and there are probably going to be those times when we have some doubts and maybe even some fears.</p>
<p>We have to work through those and keep them &#8220;in check&#8221;.</p>
<p><strong>And, the key to doing that is to not let the &#8220;negative committee&#8221; be the loudest voice in the room.</strong> We absolutely can control it from overshadowing our confidence and all the success we are so capable of making.</p>
<p>However, if you don&#8217;t have control, it can do so much damage that it literally <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2012/01/19/how-you-can-create-the-perfect-mindset-and-succeed-at-what-you-really-want/">sabotages all the success</a> you really could have.</p>
<h3>the possibility of today:</h3>
<p><strong>1. Get control of your negative committee. </strong>Decide today that you are going to do whatever you need to and work through any doubts that creep up. We make plans for so many other things in our lives, there&#8217;s no good reason for us to not have a plan for controlling our &#8220;negative committee&#8221;. What are you going to make sure you do every single day to control your negative committee?</p>
<p><strong>2. Integrate daily inspiration into your days.</strong> Make sure you read things that inspire and remind you of what you are really capable of. You need to have something you do daily that will counter all the junk and negativity that can build up in your mind without you even realizing it. It&#8217;s like Zig Ziglar explained, <em>“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily”.</em></p>
<p><strong>3. Observe your thoughts.</strong> We have about 60,000 thoughts a day and once you start watching what you are thinking, you will probably be amazed at how many of those thoughts are negative. A lot of them happen on autopilot so we may not even realize what is going on. However, once we start taking a closer look at our thoughts, we become more aware and can get control of our negative thinking.</p>

<p>Have you ever been waiting for the perfect time to do something?</p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px;"><em><a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2011/12/20/how-to-know-and-take-the-chances-you-should/">take a chance</a></em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px;"><em>follow a dream</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px;"><em>break a bad habit</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 60px;"><em>make a change</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">This is something I am sooooo familiar with because I feel like I have lived my life &#8220;waiting for the perfect time&#8221;.</p>
<p>I used to delay things for months and even years all because I would decide the time wasn&#8217;t right. Time would go on and on and I would look up and the time would still not feel 100% right &#8230; So, I would just wait some more.</p>
<p>I convinced myself that I just wasn&#8217;t ready and that I needed more time. I would remind myself that &#8220;patience is a virtue&#8221; and that &#8220;haste makes waste&#8221;.</p>
<p>And, while I realize there are definitely times where there is value in being patient and waiting for the &#8220;perfect time&#8221;; I also realize you have to look closely at each situation because <strong>&#8220;waiting for the perfect time&#8221; is sometimes just a <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2011/12/29/59-excuses-you-really-should-stop-making-in-2012-stop-getting-in-your-own-way/">perfect excuse</a>. </strong></p>
<p><strong></strong>It can even allow you to rationalize not doing something today that you probably should.<span id="more-9106"></span></p>
<p>So, that&#8217;s why I have started to look really closely at all the things I put on &#8220;hold&#8221;, and I am hoping you will join me and also take a look at whatever it is you may have put on hold.</p>
<p>Why?</p>
<p>Because if we are really going to create and live the life we want, we&#8217;ve got to be on the lookout for excuses and really make sure we are always taking advantage of the <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2012/01/03/how-you-can-stop-letting-yesterdays-junk-get-in-the-way-of-todays-success/">possibilities of Today. </a></p>
<p>We&#8217;ve got to rethink what really is possible and make sure we aren&#8217;t getting in our own way.</p>
<p><strong>It doesn&#8217;t mean we should rush into things or push ourselves to do things too quickly when we aren&#8217;t prepared. Being prepared is very important.</strong></p>
<p>But, we do have to be aware of the trap of &#8220;waiting for the perfect time&#8221; and recognize how much control we really do have to make NOW the perfect time.</p>
<p>If something really feels right, there&#8217;s no need to just sit back and wait, we can and should start preparing to lean in the direction we want today.</p>
<h3> the possibility of today:</h3>
<p><strong>Step 1:</strong> Take a look at whatever it is you have put on hold. Is this something you really want? Does it just feel right to you deep down? If the answer is yes, it&#8217;s probably time to get moving on what you want.</p>
<p><strong>Step 2: </strong>Decide that you are going to make NOW the &#8220;perfect time&#8221; regardless of whatever else is happening. It doesn&#8217;t mean that you have to literally make &#8220;a move&#8221; or make a drastic change today, but it does mean that you should start <em>preparing</em> so you can make a move in the future. Decide Today you are going to do whatever you need to in order to start preparing to make it happen. No more excuses.</p>
<p><strong>Step 3: </strong>Create the space in your day to start leaning in the direction you want to go. We are always going to have a lot going on and so we need to create the time in our day to focus on creating whatever it is we want. Even if you are only able to find an extra 10 minutes, you can use even that small amount of time to work on whatever it is you want. It&#8217;s all about making sure you do something (even something small) every single day.</p>
<p><strong>Step 4: </strong>Put together a 30 day action plan. What are things you can do immediately in the next 30 days? They don&#8217;t have to be huge things. Small steps definitely count and are usually the best place to start.</p>
<p><strong>Step 5: </strong>Take a step Today. Again, you don&#8217;t have to take a quantum leap, a babystep is perfectly fine. It&#8217;s all about leaning in the direction you want to go and committing to taking step after step every single day.</p>

<p>Do you want to know one of the easiest traps to fall into? Setting your aim too low.</p>
<p>How do I know it’s an easy trap to fall into?</p>
<p>Because I fell into that trap and didn’t even realize it.</p>
<p>I had no clue I had set my aim too low because I was setting all types of goals and making pretty good progress.</p>
<p>However, there was one problem … and it was a pretty big one.</p>
<p>I was creating goals and deciding what was possible based on <strong><em>where I was</em></strong> and not necessarily <strong><em>where I ultimately wanted to be </em></strong>if the sky was the limit<em>.</em></p>
<p>For some reason, I decided that when it came to setting <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2011/08/09/what-you-really-must-understand-about-the-path-to-success/">goals</a> and going after things, I needed to be “practical” and go after things that were “actually possible”.<span id="more-9061"></span></p>
<p>Now, of course, I didn’t really realize I was doing this but, then I came across this quote.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em><strong>“If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is a compromise.” Robert Fritz</strong></em></p>
<p>“Oh crap”, I thought. “I totally have done that.”</p>
<p>My definition of “actually possible” was way too limiting and causing me not to think big enough. Imagine that.</p>
<p>So, I decided to change things up … and, of course I want you to join me because it is totally working.</p>
<p>From time to time, I now add a different kind of goal to my list.</p>
<p><strong>And, for just this one goal, I throw “being realistic and practical” out the window and just focus on what I really want.</strong></p>
<p>Why not? What do I have to lose?</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>One goal I added about a year ago (that seemed absolutely crazy at the time and I had no idea how on earth it could really happen) </em>was to move across the country to California…<em> ✔ (completed)</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>Another goal I added awhile ago was to set things up so I could transition out of my corporate job and start working for myself full time (when I added this one to the list, it seemed even crazier than the first one) … ✔ (completed)</em></p>
<p>As I am sure you can imagine, after seeing this process work, it is soooooo my new approach.</p>
<p><strong>I have finally realized that we have to remind ourselves every single day that life is filled with <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2011/11/10/are-you-really-taking-advantage-of-all-the-possibilities-of-today-here%E2%80%99s-how-you-really-do-it/">possibilities</a> and there are always amazing things waiting to come our way if we believe they are possible and actually go after them.</strong></p>
<p>When we get caught up in the daily hustle and bustle of life, it&#8217;s easy to forget this reality. It&#8217;s easy to think too small. That’s what I did.</p>
<p>And, that’s why you have to make sure you have a process that continually reminds you to <strong>rethink what is really possible</strong>  and to make sure you go for those BIG things you really want. You&#8217;ll be amazed at the results you will get.</p>
<h3>the possibility of today:</h3>
<ol>
<li><strong>Add one BIG goal to your list Today.</strong> Don’t worry about being realistic or practical. Just think of one thing you really, really want. You can and still should have other &#8220;realistic&#8221; goals on your list, but make sure you also add at least one BIG goal Today.</li>
<li><strong>Build more and more confidence in your ability to reach your BIG goal. </strong>Start working <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2012/01/27/how-you-can-really-enjoy-and-experience-today-in-the-best-way/">Today</a> (and every Today that follows) on convincing yourself that it absolutely is possible. <li><strong>Take action now.</strong> Don’t wait until tomorrow. Plan what you are going to do Today and do it. It doesn’t matter how big or small the step is … just take it. Many of us are masters at putting things off until we think the time is perfect. The perfect time will not just magically appear. You have to make Today the perfect time and move.</li>
<li><strong>Take steps daily. </strong>Put your BIG goal on your &#8220;to do&#8221; list and do something every single day to keep things moving in the right direction.</li>

<p>My problem was that I had no idea I was in the wrong place and that is why no matter how much success I had, how much money I made, how many stock option they granted me, I continued to be unfulfilled. For a while, I was convinced that I was the most ungrateful woman, something so unlike my personality. I appreciate the smallest things in life and yet I could not find fulfillment at work.</p>
<p>It turns out nothing was wrong with me. In fact, I am pretty special and brilliant as are all of you reading this right now. The corporate lifestyle and the whole idea of working for someone else doing something I did not enjoy, now that was the real problem.</p>
<p>How do we get so foggy about simple truths?</p>
<p>I think we ignore clear signs staring us in the face.<span id="more-9033"></span></p>
<p>I ignored all the signs that were telling me to do meaningful work. And that cost me time, our most precious asset. So in an attempt to save you the wasted effort, I share with you the top 5 signs you are in the wrong job with immediate actionable steps on what to do about it, because as Sibyl reminds us often, the possibilities of today are endless and I add, if we only pay attention once in a while.</p>
<p>So let&#8217;s get into these 5 clear signs and some immediate advice for the near future. Ideally you will be leaving this job behind with a <strong><a href="http://www.smartexitblueprint.com/blog/">smart exit strategy</a> </strong>someday but until then, put these tips to work:</p>

<p><strong>Sign #1: Boredom and extreme distractions:</strong> You feel drained at the work place and enjoy distractions more than your work.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>Actionable advice #1: Come up with one single aspect of your work that you enjoy.</strong> Focus on that. Then talk to your boss. Propose arrangements to focus more of your time on this aspect. Tell him this is your strength and true gift to the organization.</p>
<p><strong>Sign #2: Doing it just for the money:</strong> When you look at your career simply as a job, and when you do it just to get a paycheck, you are acting more like a robot than a human being &#8211; and yes, it can be done. I did it for years; I didn&#8217;t give up that sweet income easily. Nonetheless, this is not a good sign!</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>Actionable Advice #2: Find something that you would do for free for the rest of your life:</strong> If there were one thing you could do without getting paid, what would it be? Don&#8217;t be hasty. Even your hobbies can bore you if you do them daily. What is it that you really love to do with a passion that only grows rather than fades? Then do that on the side as you keep the day job. Get to know your strengths. Perhaps, this can be your foundation as you find your way out of this wrong job.</p>
<p><strong>Sign #3:</strong> <strong>Dread going through the motions: </strong>You dread waking up in the morning. You don&#8217;t want to go into work at all.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>Actionable Advice #3: You can make arrangements with your boss around telecommuting</strong>. When your boss trusts you, you can create a way to work and be productive remotely. As a full-time telecommuter for 6 years, I can attest to how wonderful that was. Even if you do it once a week, you break up the routine so you can push through the week easier.</p>
<p><strong>Sign #4: Feel completely indifferent to company direction and news: </strong>You no longer care about what happens to your company. You have unplugged and no longer identify with the organization.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>Actionable Advice #4:</strong> <strong>Find a community where you can belong:</strong> As human beings, we need to belong to a community so find one  - either inside or outside of your professional life &#8211; where you can belong and meet positive people that can be your new influencers. Who knows, the new community may just become your next great adventure in your career!</p>
<p><strong>Sign #5:</strong> <strong>Zero sense of excitement or pride for your project: </strong>You have no drive to do good job and this goes so against your own work ethics and yet, you are not motivated at all. You get by with just the bare minimums.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>Actionable Advice #5: Create the beginner mindset: </strong>When you feel so detached from your work, you need to create serious beginner mindset to shift gears and put you in steep learning mode. See if you can move around to a new project or team. The beginner mindset can engage your brain and helps you get through your days with some excitement.</p>

<p>I used to think I didn&#8217;t really have courage &#8230; or at least enough courage to take chances. I would look at other people taking what I thought were &#8220;wild chances&#8221; and think to myself,</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>&#8220;I would soooooo never do that.&#8221;</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>&#8220;I am just too risk averse to take big chances&#8221;.</em></p>
<p>But, there was a large part of me that really wanted to have enough courage to take the chances I should. I didn&#8217;t want to look up one day and ever think, &#8220;if only&#8221; &#8230;</p>
<p>So, I knew I had to change things up a little.</p>
<p>I was going to need to push myself out of my comfort zone and start working on getting more &#8220;courage&#8221; (I guess I should have grabbed, Dorothy, Toto, the tin man and the scarecrow and started looking for the &#8220;yellow brick road&#8221;).</p>
<p>Looking back now, I realize that I was looking for something I already had.</p>
<p>Courage isn&#8217;t something you have or don&#8217;t have. As Tess explains, it&#8217;s innate. We&#8217;ve all got it in us and sometimes it just has to be uncovered.</p>
<p><span id="more-8696"></span>I&#8217;ve always believed that we can learn so much from other people and the experiences and lessons they share from their lives. And, there is no one better to learn from than Tess Marshall.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><blockquote><p>Sometimes it&#8217;s not about what you are doing that matters most, but rather how you are feeling when you do it.</p></blockquote>
<p>Have you ever had those things that you don’t <em>want </em>to do, but feel like you <em>have </em>to do them?</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>Maybe you have a job you don’t really like, but you also know this is not the time to quit.</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em></em><em>Maybe you have never really enjoyed cleaning your house, but since you want a clean house, you don’t have much of a choice.</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>Maybe there are just little tasks you find annoying, like going through all of your e-mail or listening to voicemail messages.</em></p>
<p>If you are like me, and many other people, you probably have come across at least one (or possibly many things) that you know you <em><strong>need to do</strong></em>, but you don’t necessarily <em><strong><a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2011/07/26/why-you-absolutely-must-stop-doing-anything-you-dislike-and-how-to-stop/">enjoy</a> or even want to do</strong></em> them.</p>
<p>Well, after a lot of <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">time spent being annoyed</span> searching, I finally had a realization and it literally improved <em><strong>how I feel about</strong></em> and <em><strong>how I do</strong></em> all those things I used to just find absolutely annoying.</p>
<p><strong>You can change the way you go about doing &#8220;the things&#8221; you don&#8217;t like, get better energy flowing, and &#8220;the things&#8221; will no longer annoy you or feel like a nuisance to do.  <span id="more-8594"></span></strong></p>
<p>All you have to do is focus on doing whatever it is thoughtfully and with the utmost care (even little things like cleaning or going through e-mail). It automatically gets your better <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2012/01/31/a-simple-way-to-instantly-improve-your-mood-and-feel-great/">energy flowing </a>and improves how you feel about whatever it is you are doing.</p>
<p>I can’t even begin to tell you how much of an epiphany that was for me.</p>
<p>I know it makes perfect sense that it would work, but it was eye opening for me because &#8220;<strong><em>how I was doing&#8221;</em> </strong>whatever it was I needed to do was always overshadowed by &#8220;<em><strong>how much I didn&#8217;t want to&#8221;</strong></em> do it.</p>
<p>I used to just dread doing things I didn’t like and continue to push myself and push myself until I finally would give in and do it. When I finally would decide to do it, I wasn&#8217;t really enjoying what I was doing at all.</p>
<p>My main goal was just to try and get through it as quickly and painlessly as possible. That is the exact opposite of what I should have been doing … but hey, you live and learn.</p>
<p>Starting <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2012/01/27/how-you-can-really-enjoy-and-experience-today-in-the-best-way/">Today</a> (and every Today that follows), I’m not allowing the things that <em>have to be done</em> annoy or bother me anymore.</p>
<p>Because there’s just no point in allowing the things we need to do annoy us.</p>
<p><strong>And, even more importantly it just creates negative energy that gets in the way of (and sometimes even blocks) all the important things we are doing and working to make happen.</strong></p>
<p>There really is a different way to live … Will you join me?</p>
<h3>the possibility of Today:</h3>
<p><strong>1. Always be aware</strong> of the energy you are bringing to something (especially things you don&#8217;t want to do). Decide you are going to shift your attention and improve how you feel about whatever it is you <strong><em>need to do.</em></strong></p>
<p><strong>And then &#8230;</strong></p>
<p><strong>2. Instead of focusing on how much you don’t like or don&#8217;t want to do it</strong>, shift your attention to doing whatever it is with the most care and as much thought as possible. It’s amazing how just doing something carefully and thoughtfully can instantly improve the energy that is flowing and how you feel about it. Try it Today. You&#8217;ll be amazed at how it works.</p>

<p>Have you ever heard of the concept of a &#8220;Stop Doing&#8221; list?</p>
<p>The Stop Doing List was created by <a href="http://www.jimcollins.com/article_topics/articles/best-new-years.html">Jim Collins</a> and the goal is to create a list of the things you are no longer going to do because they drain your positive energy and provide very little, if any, benefits.</p>
<p>How cool is that? I really love that concept and the first list I created included all sorts of things that I was literally going to stop immediately doing.</p>
<ul>
<ul>
<li><em>No more going to events just because it was &#8220;politically correct&#8221; to be seen at them. If I didn&#8217;t really have a desire to go, I wasn&#8217;t going.</em></li>
<li><em>No more overcommitting myself and trying to do way too much during the day.</em></li>
<li><em>No more saying &#8220;yes&#8221;, when I really felt that the right answer was &#8220;no&#8221;.</em></li>
</ul>
</ul>
<p>I can&#8217;t even begin to tell you how valuable it was for me to <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2011/07/26/why-you-absolutely-must-stop-doing-anything-you-dislike-and-how-to-stop/">stop doing</a> the things that were on the list. So, I thought I would take it one step further and create another list of things that I should stop doing.</p>
<p>This time I decided to focus on the things that were a little more intangible, but definitely were a <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2011/08/25/why-you-absolutely-must-be-doing-work-you-are-passionate-about-and-how-to-do-it/">huge energy drain</a> and provided absolutely no benefits.<span id="more-8464"></span></p>
<p><strong>You know those things that <em>you know</em> you shouldn&#8217;t do, but for some reason you aren&#8217;t paying enough attention and you mindlessly allow them to continue?</strong></p>
<p>Well, Today is the day to put a stop to all of them.</p>
<p>It really is so true that if you want to take advantage of <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/about/">all the possibilities of today</a> you can&#8217;t let things you can &#8220;stop doing&#8221; weigh you down. It&#8217;s time to fly.</p>
<h3>11 things to stop doing TODAY:</h3>
<div>
<ol>
<li>Stop focusing on obstacles &#8230; focus on possibilities.</li>
<li>Stop getting frustrated when things don&#8217;t easily come together &#8230; be patient and realize there is so much value in what you learn along the way.</li>
<li>Stop worrying that people will think you are just a dreamer &#8230; dream bigger and bigger; you will be amazed at what comes true.</li>
<li>Stop thinking you have to run through the day in order to get everything done &#8230; understand there is so much value in turning off the autopilot and thoughtfully moving through the day.</li>
<li>Stop resenting the things that went wrong &#8230; just figure out what you were supposed to learn so you don&#8217;t need to get the same lesson again.</li>
<li>Stop thinking you have to know exactly what you are doing before trying &#8230; realize this is what it means to do things out of your comfort zone.</li>
<li>Stop believing you have to always be &#8220;thinking&#8221; or &#8220;doing&#8221; &#8230; because oftentimes the best thing &#8220;to do&#8221; is be silent and slow down.</li>
<li>Stop worrying about what could possibly happen &#8230; and realize you are so much better off to believe that things will work out just as you want (even if you end up wrong in the end).</li>
<li>Stop thinking you have to always take quantum leaps &#8230; and realize the baby steps are just as impressive and important.</li>
<li>Stop being afraid to fail &#8230; and know that oftentimes the only path to success is through failure.</li>
<li>Stop thinking you are crazy for being bold and taking a chance &#8230; because that is usually when you learn the most and life gets really, really good.</li>
</ol>

<p>How are you feeling today? Do you have the right type of energy flowing right now?</p>
<p>So, I’ve got to tell you about a realization I finally had (better late than never … right?).</p>
<p>As I am sure you already know and probably have heard countless times … <strong>You get to choose your mood and the way you feel.</strong></p>
<p>Of course, we all know that. That makes perfect sense and there is nothing really “earth shattering” about that.</p>
<p>But, what I finally realized is what that <strong><em>actually means.</em></strong></p>
<p>It means that as we move through the day, we are <em><strong>supposed to continually and consciously</strong></em> make sure we choose the best mood.<span id="more-8440"></span></p>
<p>And, even more importantly, if we notice that’s not the case, we are supposed to do things that will lift our mood.</p>
<p><strong>We need to always have “auto-correct” on when it comes to our mood and <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2012/01/19/how-you-can-create-the-perfect-mindset-and-succeed-at-what-you-really-want/">how we feel</a>.</strong></p>
<p>That was a huge realization for me &#8230; not because it is an amazing insight or anything, but simply because I wasn’t doing it. I wasn’t moving through the day right. I wasn’t really thinking about my mood and and I certainly wasn’t correcting it when it went awry.</p>
<p>I would just react to whatever came my way and accept whatever mood it put me into.</p>
<p><em>If I had a lot to do … I would feel rushed and overwhelmed.</em></p>
<p><em>If there was something I needed to do, but didn’t want to do … I was annoyed.</em></p>
<p><em>If someone was rude … I would get irritated.</em></p>
<p><em>If something went wrong … I was disappointed.</em></p>
<p>My <a href="http://www.deliberateblog.com/2011/07/17/the-vibrational-ladder-how-to-feel-better-in-4-simple-steps/">mood</a> was literally affected by whatever happened … until I realized that I had the process reversed. I was actually supposed to choose to be in the best mood and it was supposed to positively affect whatever I was doing.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2011/11/27/why-a-challenge-may-be-exactly-what-you-need/">Dwelling on everything that is wrong </a>with a situation … what we don’t like, and what bothers or annoys us is such an easy trap to fall into. For some reason, that’s always the stuff that seems to rise to the surface and it&#8217;s much easier to notice it.</p>
<p>But, that is also the stuff that throws our mood off. It’s the stuff that is “heavy” and  it brings us down.</p>
<p>So, that&#8217;s why we always have to make sure we are looking at things from the <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2011/10/27/30-terrible-things-that-are-actually-good/">right perspective </a>and focusing on the right things.</p>
<p>Now, I am not oversimplifying things and saying to just be like “Polyanna” and ignore the “crap”. Let’s be honest, that is not always the easiest thing to do.</p>
<p><strong>But, a lot of the time the “crap” is overshadowing the “good” because we are letting it.</strong></p>
<p>As an example, I know this couple that went on vacation together. The guy told me they had a really good vacation. He said they had fun, some great down time and went to some amazing museums. The wife described the vacation just as “so-so”. She said the weather was terrible, the food was just mediocre and everything was overpriced.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s all about what you <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2012/01/13/the-top-10-reasons-you-want-to-let-the-%E2%80%9Clittle-things-go-how-to-easily-do-it/">choose to focus on </a>and our moods really are affected by whatever we decide.</p>
<p>TODAY (and every Today that follows), become conscious of your mood as much as you can and make it one of your top goals to be in a good mood.</p>
<h3>how do you actually do it TODAY?</h3>
<p><strong> 1. Build it into your day. </strong>Being in a good mood will not always happen automatically so you need to do things every single day to lift your mood. Start the morning off right and remind yourself that you are going to make it a great day and you will choose to focus on the right things. Put a &#8220;Post It Note&#8221; reminder on your mirror or send yourself a daily e-mail. Create a routine you can do every single morning to remind yourself to make it a great day. If you just do this one thing, you will instantly notice the difference. Try it TODAY.</p>
<p><strong>2. Replace the words “got to”, “have to”, “need to”, “should” with  “GET TO”. </strong>I came across this great suggestion that if you just swap these words, it helps you immediately change your perspective.</p>
<ul>You don’t “have to” go to work. &#8211;&gt; You GET TO go to work because you have a job and are employed.</ul>
<ul>You don&#8217;t &#8220;need to&#8221; cook dinner for your family &#8211;&gt; You GET TO cook dinner for your family that is healthy and an important part of your life.</ul>
<p><strong>3. Lift your mood by reminding yourself of all the good that’s coming your way. </strong>Make sure you are really enjoying today and exactly where you are, but remind yourself from time to time about all the great things that are absolutely coming your way. It will make you happier to remember that your hard work is paying off and I can confirm for you TODAY that it absolutely is. Every positive thing you do nets a positive result (even if you don&#8217;t immediately see it). That&#8217;s just the way the process works.</p>

<p>I can honestly say after 35 years I have finally realized that those are so words to live by &#8230;&#8221;Enjoy things exactly as they are.&#8221;</p>
<p>If you are like me (and many other people) &#8230; there is definitely something you are either trying to change about yourself or there is something you are trying to make happen.</p>
<p><strong>Maybe you are trying to:</strong></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>shed some weight</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>get better at just relaxing and enjoying life</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>find the perfect relationship</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>boost your self confidence</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>get a promotion at work</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>learn how to stop worrying and calm your mind</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>make something happen you have wanted for a long time &#8230; or </em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>all of the above</em></p>
<p><span id="more-8414"></span>The list goes on and on and the reality is that 95% of us are trying to accomplish, do or change something the majority of the time, even if we don&#8217;t really realize it.</p>
<p>Life is all about living, learning and growing so there is by no means anything wrong with wanting to improve or accomplish something.</p>
<p>I am a big time believer in <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2011/11/10/are-you-really-taking-advantage-of-all-the-possibilities-of-today-here%E2%80%99s-how-you-really-do-it/">Living Today Better than Yesterday</a> (as you know) and continually taking steps in the right direction.</p>
<p>It’s just that if we want to be successful and make the things we want happen in the future, we’ve got to create the right type of <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2011/07/26/why-you-absolutely-must-stop-doing-anything-you-dislike-and-how-to-stop/">mindset</a> TODAY.</p>
<p>And, that is where it can really get challenging.</p>
<p>We know where we want to go and we look forward to that future time when we have accomplished what we wanted. We think about how great it will be and we tell ourselves that &#8220;Today&#8221; is okay but &#8220;Tomorrow&#8221; is going to be so much better.</p>
<p>Is there anything wrong with looking forward to the future?</p>
<p>Not really, as long as we have found that perfect balance between looking forward to the future and being happy with where we are right now.</p>
<p><strong>You’ve got to find a way to enjoy TODAY and experience it in the best way even though you want something different for yourself in the future.</strong></p>
<p>Never overlook what&#8217;s here for you Today &#8230; <a href="http://www.possibilityoftoday.com/2011/01/14/why-you-should-take-chances-to-make-things-happen/">all of the possibilities</a> you have Today to really live and be awake.</p>
<p>And that’s the trap that is so easy to fall into.</p>
<p>I know I fell into it and slipped into &#8220;autopilot&#8221; mode for a while. But, I finally realized that the only way to guarantee that the “tomorrow” we want will come, is by really enjoying, living and experiencing “Today” in the best way possible.</p>
<p><strong>Our &#8220;Tomorrows&#8221; are connected to our &#8220;Todays&#8221;.</strong></p>
<h3>how do you actually do it TODAY:</h3>
<ol>
<li><strong><strong>No more autopilot.</strong> </strong>Don&#8217;t just run through your day. Continually work on pouring your passion and positive energy into whatever it is you are doing. Pay attention. Don&#8217;t just &#8220;do&#8221;. Do things with the utmost quality and give every single thing the attention it deserves. Reduce and if possible eliminate multitasking.</li>
<li><strong>Appreciate exactly where you are Right Now.</strong> No matter where you want to go or how great you have decided it will be, find your way to loving and appreciating this moment in time. Experience it in the best way.</li>
<li><strong>Prioritize TODAY.</strong>  As you go through your day, remind yourself that there is nothing more important than how you feel and how you experience TODAY &#8230; not tomorrow, not all the things you still need to do, not any of the things feel you need to worry about. How you feel and experience TODAY  really matters. Don&#8217;t let anything else get in the way.</li>
