"Daily Caller" Exposes Soros-Funded "Media Matters"

At last! Journalism is too much commentary and and not enough investigation. Blogs like this one offer overlooked and under-publicized news items as well as the occasional editorial, analysis and projection. That is about all part-timers can do.

Alternative media are frustratingly lazy. Fox News is more talk show than news. Glenn Beck started doing actual journalism but Limbaugh et al have never gotten off their duffs. So it is refreshing that "Daily Caller" has performed a Pulitzer-worthy investigation of "Media Matters."

The expose is great for a number of reasons. It displays George Soros in a truth-be-damned posture that we have come to recognize. It captures the mainstream media in all of their ongoing ethical torpitude. It illustrates why the mainstream media all sound like they are singing the same song: the hymnal was printed and distributed by "Media Matters."

This story is a Euclidean field day. There is the Soros angle, of course. There is the tax exempt angle. There is the anti-Israel angle. Most importantly, there is the White House angle. Get out your protractors, folks.

An interesting aside: The mainstream media is now dominated by attack journalism. If the subject is Bush, Palin, Beck, Cain, Limbaugh or Fox News, facts are optional. It is venom and nothing but venom. Ironically, the godfather of bile, David Brock, got his start whoring for "American Spectator." There he served up hit pieces on Bill Clinton and Anita Hill. I guess we can thank master pimp Emmett Tyrrell for David Brock and "Media Matters." Way to go, Tyrrell.

According to Rasmussen, Obama's favorability ratings have risen to their highest level since June 9, 2011 when the president was still riding the wave of the Bin Laden killing. The trend started at roughly the time when the GOP presidential candidates all went negative. The eleventh commandment be damned.

Newt was the last to jump in the sewer but when he did take the plunge, he splashed as wildly as anyone else. So much for being the elder statesman, the team leader, the Speaker, blah blah blah. I understand Gingrich's frustration at the attacks directed against him in Iowa. But in going negative, the Newtster lost his mojo.

Gingrich should have doubled down on his attacks against Obama and his media toadies. Instead, he attacked Bain Capital, the best attributes of Mitt Romney and the best values of conservatism. He blamed his Nevada loss on Mormons and called Romney a liar. Dohhh.

Cooler heads need to intervene. Romney can the president. Newt can be Secretary of State. Paul can be Secretary of the Treasury (or chairman of the Fed) and Santorum can get his own show on Fox.

Oh, and thank goodness Mr. vulture capitalism went back to Texas. He was a fool. Glad we vetted that guy.

Get back on your game, guys. You all do well when you point out the flaws in the current administration and the cowardice of his butt boys in the media. Axelrod is playing for keeps and the stakes are high. Another $5T (not to mention the off book entitlements) in debt and America will probably go the way of the dodo bird.

You are dealt a war hero and the governor of the state with the highest budget surplus in US history. Your opponent holds a community organizer and a nice guy with a touch of dementia. Is there any way you can lose?

If you are named Steve Schmidt, the answer is a resounding yes. Some people have suggested that Schmidt was a Dem operative. No one could be as stupid as Steven Schmidt. No one could misplay that hand so poorly. I argue the counterpoint: Steven Schmidt is an idiot.

Schmidt is credited with the bean bag strategy. That is, Republicans had to treat Obama with kid gloves because he was so damn popular and if one actually pointed out his flaws, they would generate a hostile backlash. Schmidt is believed to have anonymously provided the most malicious Palin quotes in the book "Game Change." He would go on to work for MSNBC (how fitting) and fingers again pointed in his direction when McCain's 2008 Romney dossier surfaced on the Internet.

Schmidt was a proponent of GOP secularism. He was leery of the religious right and was livid when McCain selected an out of the closet Christian as his running mate. Did Schmidt hit the iceberg on purpose? I doubt it. Is Schmidt the biggest fool in the history of Planet Earth? That might be a stretch. Is he the biggest fool in the history of American politics? I think so.

Success has a thousand fathers but failure is an orphan. No one is stepping up to accept responsibility for the 2008 election. But Schmidt was the captain of the ship. He is the daddy of this failure.

Reflections On The Teleprompter, Part II

I am reposting something from last June. It is about Mitt Romney and his and his reliance on his teleprompter. Seven months later, Romney is still defined by his adaptive device. Every other GOP candidate (Perry possibly notwithstanding)can speak from the heart. I would include Huntsman in that group even if he had nothing to say.

Gingrich wins followers on a visceral level. He wins hearts as well as minds. Yes, the Speaker has a convoluted record (there should be a punctuation mark to distinguish understatement. Maybe an upside down exclamation point.) But the Speaker does project passion. Yes he does.

Unlike a lot of people, I like Mitt Romney. He will be remembered one of two ways: as a good man or a great man. More likely, the former. But I wish he would speak from the cuff and attack Obama and Pelosi and Reid's atrocious record. And I wish he would attack Obama's puppy dogs in the news media. We can dream, can't we?

While we are dreaming, Gingrich is going on the attack. If he lays off Romney and tears into the media industrial complex and their sissy boy puppet, he will win the nomination with Virginia tied behind his back. The party is his oyster.

Is the Ability to Speak Extemporaneously a Gauge of One's Passion?
Rush Limbaugh prides himself on his ability to speak loudly, longly and lovingly without so much as a note card. He addressed the C-PAC crowd in 2009 naked except for his clothes. He attributes this skill to his unbridled passion.

Beck. Palin. Bachmann. Gingrich. They can wing it without a teleprompter even if Sarah might write notes on her hand. Rubio can also go a mile a minute without memory aids. The speakers we like and believe can speak off the cuff.

But maybe extemporaneous speech is just a freakish skill. Like whistling or rapping or rhyming. We don't usually think of these things when we measure a speaker's commitment. Is extemporaneous speaking just one more gimmick?

We have all been in a position where we knew what we thought but we just could not make our point. A universal experience. We were passionate about A, B, C and D but we could not make our point.We have all been there.

I have some sympathy for Walter Mondale, though I would never have voted for him. Fritz is Exhibit A of the politician who could not project his personality to an audience. Believe it or not, Mondale's private persona was warm and carefree. He liked to wear a silly hat and smoke a cigar and crack jokes as he manned his backyard grill. The consummate host. But put in the spotlight, Fritz became Walter and Reagan won by a landslide.

Obama is notably weak on anything impromptu. His reliance on the teleprompter is a national joke. But he is not the best speaker for us to gauge passion because he never really says anything. His speech is mostly void of content so how can we assess if he believes what he is saying? One has to actually say something before we can determine if a person believes what they say.

Which brings us to Mitt Romney. Three miles away from here, Romney announced that he was a 2012 candidate. He used a teleprompter to do so. Ding! Mitt the Flip. Romneycare. Mr. Ethanol. Mr. Farm Subsidy. Mr. Corporate Welfare. Our teleprompter is better than your teleprompter.

A lot has been made of Reagan's thespian background and his application to the political world. Point taken. Maybe he was the great communicator because of his polished skills. Then again, maybe he found public speaking easy because he really believed in what he said.

Whatever else can be said about Romney, I don't see his as the Anti-Obama. Nope. He might be the better of two choices but can he inspire? Can he get the apathetic or the independent or the undecided to vote for him? For that matter, can he inspire his own party to stand behind him?

Until we have that battle of the teleprompters, I will give a long look to any candidate who can speak from the heart. Cain. Bachmann. Even Newt deserves another chance. Hope and change is what we need. More importantly, we need a candidate who can speak those passions without reading them.

For over a year I have read rumors and innuendo about a White House scandal that is about to explode. The rumors allude to a Chicago scandal (Donald Young?)and to the ineptitude and inattention of the president.

Given that this administration is always in cover-up mode, and the president is only capable of muttering a few certain talking points ("millionaires and billionaires...fair share...") suspicion will foment. For all of the campaign's PR brilliance, the administration could never follow up. Only the most loyal supporters hold no curiosity about this man of mystery.

I generally don't pass along rumor or rumors of rumor but given the manner in which The King's Horsemen have spread rumors about Palin (the stellar journalist who spread the rumor that Trig Palin was not Sarah's baby gets to write the lead article in 'Newsweek' entitled "Why Are Obama's Critics So Dumb?") Cain and Gingrich, I don't mind compromising my lofty standards.

The most underrated TV show in history might be "SCTV." One of the best story lines is when network owner Guy Caballero creates his own awards show and then rigs the outcomes. SCTV third bananas beat show biz luminaries for every award. When SCTV cleaning lady, Perini Scleroso, is given The Best Foreign Personality Award, Caballero (Joe Flaherty) realizes he has overplayed his hand.

Life imitates art. David Axelrod is Guy Caballero and Barack Obama is Perini Scleroso. For reasons never well articulated, Barack Obama was declared the Nobel Peace Prize winner on October 9, 2009.

If the Scleroso comparison sounds too harsh, let us remind ourselves that the Peace Prize nominations were sealed twelve days after Obama's inauguration. Twelve days of briefings and photo ops and unpacking moving crates. Perhaps Soros and the Ax Man should have waited a year before performing their magic trick.

The Kool-Aiders cannot understand the fuss. What's wrong with recognizing Barack's divine essence? Actions are overrated. Fundamentalism can be mighty ugly.

But not everyone who voted for the O Man is a fundamentalist. Some of his supporters were independents who for some reason thought that Obama was smart and untarnished by a dirty system. When Obama was awarded the coveted Nobel Prize, a lot of independent voters re-examined their choice.

If the Peacemaker did not deserve his latest honor, did he deserve the presidency? Was it possible that he received some preferential treatment in that contest as well? Could it be that Obama was all hype and millions were played as suckers? A lot of people quietly asked themselves that question. Without the Peace Prize, they might not have introspected.

October 9, 2009 might be Obama's political high water mark. Maybe if the puppeteers had waited a year or two, or three, the maneuver would have been perceived differently. But the smart guys did indeed overplay their hand. And as they say, the rest is history.

Is the environmental movement a front for OPEC? The Keystone Pipeline has a huge upside for just about all Americans. As with all technology, the pipeline carries an element of risk. But it is a risk worth taking.

Every senior member of the Obama Administration should be forced to take sensitivity training. Sensitivity for the people who want and need jobs and sensitivity for Americans who are hit hard by rising gas prices (better blame the speculators.) Maybe Solyndra will pick up the slack.

If the administration would just reject the pipeline, we could respect them for stating their intentions. But the hidden agenda of the least transparent administration in history is once more the bigger story. Barack Obama once more votes 'present.'

Montana farmers have filed a class action suit against former New Jersey governor Jon Corzine, charging that the failed financial firm run by Corzine stole millions from their accounts to pay off its spiraling debts, and that Corzine's "single-minded obsession" with making MF Global a big player on Wall Street led to the firm's collapse.

MF Global's clients included 38,000 wheat farmers, cattle ranchers and others who "hedged" their crop prices by placing millions in MF Global accounts. Those accounts were supposed to be "segregated and secure," according to the federal suit, meaning MF Global could not draw on those funds.

The lawsuit, filed on behalf of all 38,000 customers, alleges that when MF Global made a series of bad investments -- notably in European debt -- it began "siphoning funds withdrawn from segregated client accounts" to cover its debts.

Anyone but Obama! The Crypto-Marxist Infiltrator-in-Chief has made for strange bedfellows. I so look forward to the day we can send the Alinsky apostle back to the land of onion if for no other reason than I can once more feud with the Sean Hannitys of the world.

Hannity reminds me of an Obama supporter. In much the same way that Obama's sheeple play the race card, Hannity plays the martyr card with Tim Tebow. Every criticism of the hyper-hype of Tim Tebow is met with a claim of Christian persecution. This is absurd because the NFL has always been a religious hotbed. Remember Reggie White, the Minister of Defense? The tip of the iceberg.

Hannity et al have tried to inject the Hand of God onto the Tebow landscape. Tebow passed for 316 yards last week. John 3:16 says... Am I a lesser Christian if I voice doubt about God fixing football games?

Some denominations believe in context and reverence. Do not think for a second that members of these denominations have weaker faith because they are cautious about uttering when and where they discuss the Deity. There is more to the commandment: "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain" than the buffoonery of Jeremiah Wright.

Tebow is playing the Patriots tonight. Bill Belichick, for all of his football genius is in Year 3 of rebuilding his defense. That is a long time in NFL years. Brady and company are great but the Patriot defense is the worst in the league and one of the worst the NFL has seen in recent years. They have Vince Wilfork and not much else. Every play seems to be a scoring opportunity. Tebow might have a big game against these losers. But I'll be cheering for the Patriots and if the Patsy defense roughs up the new King of Hype, that won't bother me a bit.

Someday the social conservatives will do battle with the minarchists and I know where my allegiance will fall. But until the Comrades are sent packing, I will sing Kumbaya with Sean Hannity and his band of halo polishers.

Will Obama Destroy The Brand?

Richard Nixon permanently damaged the Republican brand. It was during the mid to late 70's that Red States turned blue. It had less to do with Jimmy Carter's charm than it had to do with the public's disgust with a corrupt and arrogant political party. Republican political careers were collateral damage. A lot of good people just stood too close to the disgraced president.

Obama might yet destroy the Democratic brand. 2010 was the most lopsided set of elections in US History. The GOP picked up 60 seats but they could have picked up dozens more. They captured state house after state house. Every election was a referendum on Obama.

By any standard, the Obama Administration has a poor economic record. By election day they will have inflated the national debt by about fifty per cent and we will have nothing to show for it. In fact, most economic indicators are worse than 2008 and much worse than 2006 when the Dems took control.

Since 2011 Obama has blamed Congress for all of the country's ills. That works with the party base but it does not elevate the president in other voters' eyes. The White House's attacks have been snide and not always accurate. Whereas negative attacks do indeed damage the target, to a lesser extent they damage the attacker. The Obama image has been reshaped by the constant drip drip drip of venom. That cheery hope and change icon has morphed into a gargoyle.

Obama's approval ratings have gone downhill without much help from the media. Just wait till the attack ads start. They were sorely missed in 2008. If the Repubs just attack O's record, it will be bad for the incumbent. But it won't just be his record this time around. There is a simmering resentment stemming from the media's treatment of Sarah Palin and Herman Cain. The grass roots will sharpen their claws (love mixed metaphor.)

We know Obama has a glass jaw. If the peasants just stick to the issues, Obama has a rainy day ahead. If any of a dozen scandals goes into Watergate mode, the Dems have a Cat 5 on their hands. If they covered up something that should have never been covered up, it's going to be a tsunami in Donkeyland.

To review, 2010 was a bloodbath without any tawdry scandals. Throw Larry Sinclair, John Drew, Philip Berg, a suspicion-generating social security number, and a dozen or so other cover-ups (that the Dems helped cover-up) and we have a landmark election that could shape the political topography for decades to come.

Hope and change.

OK, I blew it on the predictions. Romney did better than expected. So did Paul. So did Huntsman. Gingrich...not so much.

New Hampshire has an open primary. With Obama running unopposed, the undeclareds (New Hampshire for Independent)flocked to the GOP primary. The results would have been much different if NH had a closed primary.

But then again, Iowa might have had different results in they had a primary and not a caucus. If California voted first results would also be different. Fact is, you have to play the course.

I like Mitt OK but I voted for Gingrich. (I'll address the Bain attacks later.) Romney's in the lead but this game ain't over. Let's see how Mr. Massachusetts does in the land of cotton. South Carolina will either seal it for Mitt or bring a candidate back from the dead.
