I was watching the news the other night and they had on a lady that uses gift cards to do most of her shopping. At first I said to myself this woman is nuts and paying $25 for a $25 gift card doesn’t save any money. Then she went on to explain that she bought gift cards on EBay for a lot less money then their worth.

Her savings didn’t stop there because she used coupons plus the gift card to sweeten the deal. She usually shops at Target and searches EBay for Target gift cards and gets $25 cards for $10 or so. Right there she is giving herself a $15 discount on her purchase before she even goes into the store. She will wait until she notices a sale on something she wants and combines that with a manufacturers coupon.

Sometimes she will bulk up on something her family uses and collect coupons for that product and her family will be set for a while. It was a very good news interview and I picked up some ways of shopping that I wasn’t aware of.

If you plan on buying some gift cards on EBay be sure that they don’t expire soon or have already expired

Here is a picture of my savings at CVS. It could have been a lot more but it shows how much money you can save with a little bit of work. It doesn’t take a lot of time to clip coupons and combine them with the weekly sales. As you will see it is pretty substantial savings on items that I would have bought anyway.

Coupons are everywhere, and for practically everything. You’d be surprised what you can find coupons for! Here’s a short list:

1) Arts and Crafts: You can save money on the little knickknacks you use to make your own greeting cards? Or how about fabric for your own self-made dress? Yeah, you can find coupons for those.

2) Car Cleaning Supplies: Yes, you can find coupons for specialized scrubbers and cleaning chemicals for cars. You can save money on that special tire scrubber or waxing agent to keep your car looking its best.

3) Dating: No, I don’t mean coupons for food for dates. I mean coupons for saving money on trying to find a date. There are plenty of portals for trying to find someone who will be a good fit for you, and the vast majority of them cost money. Some of them offer discount coupons to try to draw you to their service instead of their competitors.

4) Web Hosting: For those that want to run their own website, this is great news. Web hosting is required for running your own completely controlled website, and there is a monthly cost for doing so. A variety of top-notch web hosting companies offer hosting coupons because price can sometimes be the biggest difference between one host or another.

5) Traveling: Plane tickets are expensive, but there are coupons out there to help with it. They won’t make those tickets cheap, but they will make them less expensive. If you really need those plane tickets, you might as well save a bit of money on them.

As you can see, there are tons of unusual categories for coupons. This is only the tip of the iceberg, never assume that something you want doesn’t have a coupon that can go along with it. Search for one on coupon sites, forums, or even through a Google search just to see if you could be saving money with just a little more effort!

Today I went to CVS and bought a few things that were on sale that I needed. I got the chance to stock up a little bit on things like Irish Spring body wash and Ziploc bags. I saved over $50 using coupons and getting things while they were on sale. In the video I will show you what I bought and how I saved money. CVS has a program for loyal customers called Extra Care Bucks and it really comes in handy when you are shopping.

What I didn’t show in the video was the toilet paper that I also saved money on. Still I have $10 in extra care bucks for my next trip. I didn’t feel like making separate purchases and using this trips extra care bucks for my second purchase.

I am often at a loss when it comes to someone telling me they don’t have the time to deal with coupons. It really is not that hard and since they are printable on the internet now life could not be easier.

All you need to do is bookmark a few pages and when you see something on sale you print the coupon. It takes about a minute or so to find what you are looking for. What I do is make a shopping list of what I need and then search for each coupon one by one. Actually I really search and see what products I normally use are on sale at CVS or Rite-Aid and get coupons for those products. Then I search and see what other coupons I can find.

Most people think that coupons are only for generic brands and that couldn’t be further from the truth. Most major brands have coupons right on their website. Let me show you how I shop. Lets say this week I noticed I was running low on Reynolds wrap. I went to their site and printed out two coupons for $1 off each one. This week they are on sale for 2 for $4 and since I get $1 off each one it only cost me $1 each. Plus since I am going to buy them at CVS I also get back 2% of the purchase because of their summer promotion. So instead of paying around $4 each I am really paying under a dollar, all because I took 2 minutes and printed a coupon.

Today’s shopping trip brought me to CVS and Rite Aid. Most of the damage was done at CVS. Let’s see if I can go through what I did to make some money. I probably could have done better but that is something you always say when you come home if you are a coupon nut like me.

First thing I did was go to the card scanner and it printed out some coupon for a woman’s haircare product I didn’t need and a coupon for greeting cards. Neither one I could use so I put it in the canister for someone else to grab. I tried to scan again but the reader was done printing for the day.

CVS had Paper mate pens on sale which are usually $2.19 but on sale for 99 cents. If you have a CVS Extra Bucks card you got back 99 cents in rewards so that is free. I needed some cereal for breakfast and CVS had a sale buy one box of General Mills Cheerios and get a second one free. The price of the first box was suppose to be $5.19 but I noticed in the store that there was a peel off coupon on a box for $1 off so I made sure to give that one to the clerk and she peeled it off and took the $1 off so it was only $4.19 out of pocket and the second box was free. Not bad 2 boxes of cereal for a little over $4. I put up my $5 in extra bucks rewards and with tax my total was .27 cents.

I also got a rain check for the new Gillette ProGlide razor which will only cost me $2.97 next time I go. So all in all after getting back .99 cents in rewards bucks which I will use when I pick up the razor my end total was + 75 cents. According to the receipt I saved $11.95. Not bad at all.

Just got back from CVS where I used my coupons and saved over $18 and got back around $6 in extra care bucks. My out of pocket spend was $40 on $58 worth of items plus I have money coming back in extra rewards which I will use tomorrow when the new sale comes out. I saved money on everyday items like Bounty paper towels, Charmin Toilet paper, Bumble Bee tuna fish, Hefty Garbage bags, and Dove body wash.

Just got back from Duane Reade where I cashed in a buy one get one free coupon on those new Pretzel M&M’s. I would have bought them anyway so I saved a buck and got some points also. Not that big of a deal but a dollar here and there adds up. I also picked up some cookies that are usually $5 each on sale that were 2 for $5 so it was a good thing going to Duane Reade today.

Went shopping for cat food yesterday and saved a few dollars with coupons from the P&G Brandsaver and by joining the Petco PetPals program. We got $5 off each bag of food with the PetPals membership and had two $1 off coupon. The bags were 31.99 each and we got them for $25.99 each.

We also bought an automatic liter box that had a $40 off for petpal members. So our overall savings was $52 on items we would have bought anyway. I know there is cheaper cat food and we could save more money but our cats need the hairball catfood for their health.
