This app is really fun and most suitable for my 3 year old son. He sticks with it overtime and always goes straight to his favorite part, the tractor and the bulldozer.

With each page you get a new animal or farm machine to learn. The song is great for kids as it is a familiar one. The graphics as always with Duck Duck Moose apps are bright and age appropriate. The target learning word is illustrated beautifully in an attractive and easy to identify way.

Things we liked:

I like that it expands away from just farm animals to other things you may find on farms such as tractors and frogs.

There is a lot of value in this app with over 10 pages to sing along to.

We love the pig that gets squashed by the very funky chandeliers. There is a sense of humor in this app.

The language options are wonderful as I intend to expose my son to languages as he grows up. You do need to wait for the download of the language option (we chose Italian).

What could be improved:

It would be a little confusing if the child could read, since when in a language mode such as Italian, the word on the page still reads in English.

Create Your Own Website Easily with Templates

As a web designer of five years I often get asked by friends if I can create a website for them, something clean and simply to manage. Something they can update themselves.
Nowadays it is very easy to create a website without using a designer and programmer, you just need to know where to look.

So instead of using me a designer, (they needed something simple, 5 static pages, some images, and email form) I told them to try using a pre-designed template that they could edit and update themselves. This would save them money in the long run.

Templates make websites more accessible and affordable. The truth is, if you don't need complicated databases or specially designed pages that are customized you can do an awful lot with pre designed templates.

As a small business starting out, I recommend using a template and not to use a specially designed site to save money.

Here is my recommended place to get your template: ipower.

I have used iPower for hosting my sites for the last 7 years. They also offer a great range of templates for different types of businesses from educational to the small arts and crafts start-up. A year's hosting on a pro plan will cost you around $106.00 per year.

What I love about their service is the 24 hour online customer service live chat help. You can ask any questions you have whether it is technical or plan related. They are usually very fast. Get instant answers! If your responder does not know the answer s/he can usually find out within 4-5 mins and if not, s/he will email you the answer within 48 hours. Great customer service is worth paying for. Especially for beginners new to website design.

IPhone App Review: Tap and Learn

Tap and Learn

What kind of game is it?

Tap and Learn has 12 animals to learn, with 12 corresponding sounds.
There is also a test game asking 'where is the ….(animal)?' with scores to test if the child remembers what they learnt. The animals pop up and back.

It is a simple app that works great for aged 2 and under. The graphics are clean and easy to recognize. It would be nice to have more of a range of animals, that way it could interest older kids.

For who?

This is a fun game for little ones, up to age 3.
My son who is three liked tapping on the animals and listening to the sounds they make. The fish noise was his fave.

It is really simple and short. It didn't hold my son's attention for very long though as he knew all the animals.

This week I was contacted by my fellow mommy bloggers with some great news. I'd won a BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Air

This was fun as I often thought I was just unlucky and would never win anything. Instead I discovered mommy blog giveaways. Great reviews from real moms and wonderful products tested by them that meet our needs! You can find a list of some mom blogs I visit regularly at the bottom of this page in the Linky.

So how do you go about finding fun giveaways? I usually google 'giveaway' and 'mm/dd'(today's date). This gets you giveaways that are ending that day. These searches usually bring you more like minded bloggers, in their side bars or through the link ups in the giveaway sections.

Don't forget to also check out my monthly link up - If I see a great mommy giveaway, I'll definitely help spread the word and link it on my blog.

It's been fun and I intend on entering more, in my spare 10 mins a day.

Review & Giveaway for iPhone App for Toddlers Itsy Bitsy Spider and Wheels on the Bus

Itsy Bitsy Spider by Duck Duck Moose

(Did you know, in England we call this song ‘Incy Wincy Spider?)

My son who is three loves this app. His favorite part is the mouse that gets the nuts on the roof. For some reason the squeaking noise really appeals to him. He really enjoys pressing all the different objects and seeing the animation. The frog jumping is a another good one.

There are so many little things going on in the two scenes (rain scene and sun scene) that it keeps him interested for quite a while. He nods along to the music.

I like that it incorporates the song with other things such as counting and animals around the house and garden. The graphics are clean, clear and appeal to adults as well as kids.

He hasn’t taken to recording his own voice yet, it might be more appealing when he gets older. Let’s see it in other languages.

There aren’t many things we’d change about it. Overall a good, well made app.

Wheels on the bus by Duck Duck Moose

We love this app too, (it has lots more pages than itsy bitsy by the way) and my son sings along which is great as he has always loved this song.

Things we love:

Each page has the words to the song, and a few simple animations that match the song actions

It comes in in lots of languages including Italian and French so this is a lot of added value for those parents who want to expose their kids to languages early on.

Kids can record themselves singing.

Intuitive, simple navigation with a swipe.

The characters are really cute and work well in the design and feel of the app.

A minor thing we’d change:

When the language changes (e.g .to Italian), the song words still read in English, this is a bit confusing if the kids know how to read. I'd like to see it read in the language that is selected.

Any ideas what I should do for my daughter's first birthday?

Don't really want to spend 300 bucks at Gymboree for a birthday party, do you wise moms out there have any suggestions? I need ideas this week (by Friday 3/12).

Please help! We are based in Boston but any practical advice would be great, as we don't have to do something at a partcular location.

As a busy mom to two I love that I can distract my 3 year old with learning games on my iPhone for those times when I really need a minute to myself, or the moments when nothing else will keep them quiet. My son plays mostly in the car on the way home from day care, or in the evenings when I am getting dinner ready. My son loves the word and animal games most.

Here is Our Review (my son and I):

These apps are geared towards preschoolers so I reviewed this with my 3 year old son.

Sound Shaker

Choose from 6 different sounds to tap away at and make your own combined tunes. We love the hatching egg that comes when you ring circles on the screen or hold down on the phone. It is very creative and engaging. My son comes back to it after playing other games.

Things we liked:

Great graphics
Cool Music
Good for short snaps of time (less than 3 mins)
Nice sensory options, holding down finger, swirling, turning phone.

Things that could be improved:

More types of hatching animals
More sounds

Field Flier

Little Robin flies around the screen doing little things such as sleeping, swimming and, swinging. The object of the game is to take Robin the little bird around the screen by dragging Robin or tapping on the green hotspot for Robin to get to. It is a story based app rather than a game.

Kids learn the different adjectives that fill Robin's day such as swinging and standing.

Things we liked:

Beautiful graphics, with cute little animations
Cool music
Embedded Youtube video demonstration

Things that we thought could be improved on:

This didn't hold my son's attention, I think he was confused when dragging the bird. It is a half drag and half automatical pull towards the hot spot. You can hit the hot spot for Robin to get to, or drag Robin.
It crashed on us four times (just cancel and start again)
No sense of when the app ends

I think overall it might be better for a 18 month to 2 year old.
