My friends Vijay and Ame commissioned this painting in celebration of their marriage. They were married at a Hindu temple in Huntsville, Alabama. It was a clear, sunny day in December, 2011. Hindu weddings are complex and beautiful. I enjoyed picking out my favorite parts of the ceremony to include in the composition.

Calendar

Megan
Moore was already painting flowers and dates in honor of wedding,
anniversaries and other landmark occasions, so "it just made sense," she
realized, to expand the line to include a Commemorate the Date calendar
with floral illustrations, $30.

"It's just another way to make
the artwork available to everyone," Moore said, who began the
Minneapolis company three years ago.

The calendar is 5-by-11
inches on heavy, spiral-bound stock. It features oil paintings she
created for clients in her signature bold style, with a short line
providing the background story.

This is the second year for the
calendar and the third for Commemorate the Date. A graduate of the
Savannah College of Art and Design with a special affinity for painting
flowers, Moore's inspiration began when she painted flowers for her own
wedding invitations. A few years later, she created a similar motif for a
wedding of some friends.

Moore realized other people would be
interested in having paintings commemorating special events in their
lives. Her paintings generally feature flowers and the date of the event
(the date is cropped out of the images on the calendar).

Moore
paints with watercolors as well as oils, basing the design on either a
requested photo or other reference materials. She can paint in
specifically requested colors, or choose colors that come naturally to
those particular flowers.

The calendar and other products are
available at ArtiCulture in Minneapolis, the Artist Mercantile in St.
Paul and on Moore's website, www.commemoratethedate.com.

This is the first painting I have completed since Asher's birth! This is a 5 x 7 watercolor that was commissioned. I have to admit I feel proud of myself for having it completed ahead of deadline. And I should thank the commissioners for getting me back at the draft table with paper and paint. AND I have to thank Asher too, for taking two long naps yesterday.
See more of Megan's work at www.meganmoore.com.

October 13, 2012

Here's the poster/postcard design they made for the Red Wing art festival, using my painting of Frontenac State Park. However, I won't be at the festival this year. The event weekend is just one week after my due date, so I hope to be at home with a baby boy at that point.
See more of Megan's work at www.meganmoore.com.

Vietnam Center Mural

The completed mural! It's on the Vietnam Center building at 1159 University Ave, St. Paul. Be sure to check it out when you ride the light rail past it, in 2014.

See more of Megan's work at www.meganmoore.com.

Patrick the Painter

Here's one more shot of the mural in progress. My husband, Patrick, finished the top edge which was out of reach for me and too high for me to feel comfortable on the ladder with my belly getting bigger every day. He did an amazing job, both in painting and in being willing to take minute direction from me. :)
The mural is now complete, and I will post photos when I have them! In the mean time, you can always brave the light rail construction and check it out in person at 1159 University Ave, St. Paul.
See more of Megan's work at www.meganmoore.com.

New mural

I have started work on a new mural. It is located at 1159 University Ave in St. Paul on the Vietnam Center. This project is funded through an organization called Irrigate. Here is how they describe themselves:
Irrigate is an artist-led creative placemaking initiative spanning the
six miles of the Central Corridor Light Rail line in Saint Paul during
the years of its construction. Artists collaborate with businesses,
organizations and community groups to change the landscape of the
corridor with color, art, surprise, creativity and fun.
I have spent a lot of time pursuing grants in the past couple of years,
and almost didn't realize that I had attained my goal of grant funded
work with this project. I had always envisioned that grant work would be
a more personal, in-studio project. But I am pretty proud of this
project that will most likely be viewed by many more people than most of
my paintings.
Irrigate works with artists who have a connection to the community in St. Paul. My connection is my framer who is located in the Vietnam Center (NGT Framing—I highly recommend him!). I worked with members of the board's center to get support for my proposal and define the subject matter, which is the One Pillar Pagoda (a historic Buddhist temple in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam) surrounded by lotus blossoms. I am in my second trimester of pregnancy, and the board and Tu, my framer, have been very helpful in making the process as easy as possible for me. I hope to finish the mural in the next couple of weeks, if the weather will cooperate. It's been a bit on the rainy side the past week.

See more of Megan's work at www.meganmoore.com.
