As anticipated, our Ketzali shipment arrived last week and is now up on the site. These scarves are so awesome – super saturated colour ready to transition right into spring and summer. Guys, I love, love, LOVE these scarves.

Given how immensely popular the Yue items were, we went ahead and submitted a re-order for the Pocket Backpack and a new order for the Fang Backpack. We’re allowing people to pre-order since we don’t anticipate receiving the backpacks until the end of February or the beginning of March. Our re-order is small so if you missed them the first time make sure you don’t miss out this time. (Note: the cost to produce the backpacks has risen since our initial order last year) Once you place the pre-order, the backpack will be reserved for you and shipped to you as soon as it arrives.

If you’ve been a follower of PP for some time you’ll know I’ve been a longtime fan of German label Reality Studio. I own a jacket that I wear constantly. It’s been awhile since I’ve perused any of their collections, and an intriguing glimpse of their upcoming A/W 12/13 collection on Stil in Berlin prompted me to revisit. This week we introduce a brand new label Ketzali, a Guatemalan based accessories company that uses 36 artisans to weave some truly beautiful scarves. Everything is done by hand including the dying, for which they use natural and low impact dyes. They’re perfect all-season scarves too since they’re woven from rayon viscose. This also makes them crazy soft. We have five different styles, although we sold out of the Wikiq style just this morning, so be sure to check them out.

I’ve been on a vintage book kick for some time now, which of course has meant the exponential growth of my books wishlist. I’ve managed to add a few of them to my physical collection, and I’m pretty eager to add the others on my list.

My most recent acquisition was the 1951 volume Folk Toys; Les Jouets Populaires by Emanuel Hercik. Hercik undertook the task of cataloguing the development of the folk toy from ancient times through the 1950s in the interest of preserving a record of a basic human tradition and encouraging others to dig deeper themselves. He did so by illustrating them in precise, unpretentious line drawings and paintings.

There is a short intro chapter, which has me itching to explore the historical development of the toy further, but what’s most impressive are the illustrations. While most of us probably lost our interest in toys after the age of 10 or so, this book makes it impossible to indifferently skim through it. Many of the toys are familiar, but there are toys that are unusual and imaginative. I did recognize a few near the end from a collection my mother had that she let us play with when we were little.

This week we welcome some pretty awesome raw leather accessories from Yue, designed by Sarah Chow, who also collaborated with Ritchie of Triple-Major on Project White T-shirt. I’ve been a huge fan of raw and vegetable tanned leather for ages and these bags are made from some really beautiful hides. I took a week off from the ol’ day job over the holidays, and, um, guys -IT WAS AWESOME. I always look forward to the end of year because I finally get a break and an opportunity to get caught up on stuff. Anyone else do this, too?

Beer and nachos were consumed, loads of tea and coffee was imbibed, new hats were crocheted, my massive 2011 weaving project was (mostly) completed, vintage books were acquired, two books were devoured on the kindle, cookies were baked, prosecco was drunk, documentaries were watched, new things were added to the shop, delicious meals made by Brannan were devoured, the horse was ridden, and lots, and lots of R&R time was had.

And yes, I documented a bunch of this on the blog’s instagram account. Can’t help it. (Anabela (aka Fieldguided) clued me into the PicFrame app that let’s you collage a bunch of photos together, like I’ve done here.) Happy 2012 everyone!

Scarves are one of those pieces of clothing that I seem to accumulate at a ridiculous pace. I’m one of those people who is constantly cold so scarves are pretty essential. Given our cold weather of late I’ve had scarves on the brain. If you ever happen to check out our Featured page on the Shop, you may have noticed that it changes every week and for the past two weeks I’ve rotated a few of the scarves we have on it. Brannan has the Hemingway and wears it daily, and I can attest to the softness and warmth of the Upstate scarves (flannel!). Anyway, the point of all this blah, blah, blah is to say – check out our scarf selection guys!

In other shop news, while we’ve sold out of quite a few of everyone’s favourites (all Kora pieces are officially sold now), we still have A LOT of good things left. I’m not planning on putting any new arrivals up until after the holidays (anyone else having information overload?) but we had a much bigger influx of A/W inventory this season, so you may have missed some things.
