It is, in fact, a great quiver killer as for the person that rides mostly resorts and likes to go everywhere on the mountain. However, it is good everywhere but not great anywhere. Let's pinpoint every aspect of the board in details below.

Powder

I'm not a big believer of specific boards for specific conditions but sometimes it helps. The Proto-Type Two is a good treat in powder and soft snow. Turning with this board in soft snow is pillow like. The nice waist makes it perfect for deeper stuff but keeps it really responsive.

Carving and turning

This is the element that the PT2 surprised me the most. It carves like no other all-mountain board carves. Deep carves are effortless and turning is also enhanced with the asymmetrical shape of the sidecut. I could lay out carves for days on that thing and as this swiss knife is I would have kept it just for that specific property.

Speed

It gets a bit nasty for me here, the Ripsaw Rocker Camber didn't make it for me and I felt like the board was chattery in high speeds and the combination of rocker and camber retained me from fully charging agressively and putting more weigh into the nose of the board. I felt like it would be missing contact points even if my edges were really sharp.

Uneven Terrain

As long as you slash that terrain you'll have fun for days. But keep it at lower speed in uneven terrain otherwise it won't hold up really long.

Jumps

It is not bad on jumps but the camber profile makes the PT2 really unstable when jumping and landing tricks. I feel like it is made for the small to medium park and would keep out of big features and especially pipe.

Verdict

I own this board for a year and I was happy with the strong construction and the weigh of the board never really bothered me. But, the Ripsaw Rocker Camber and the asymmetrical twin shape is just not for me. Despite, the fun carving board it is and how it is a treat at slow speed to slash sidehits and fresh snow.

Buy if you want a one board quiver and like to go everywhere on the mountain. However, I think that it is not an advanced/expert board that ranks nowhere near boards like Jones MTN TWIN, Jones Aviator or the Burton Custom.

Now go out and ride!

Review: Burton Family Tree Speed Date

Size: 156 cm

Days: 100+
Rider size: 5'8" 165 lbs

Conditions

Every possible condition since I own this snowboard since 2019 and it is one of my daily drivers.

Boots: ThirtyTwo Vela 8 US / ThirtyTwo Premium Lashed 8 US
Bindings: 2021 Now xYes Medium with Hard bushings
Set Up: 23 inch stance, I always keep 16 inches of tail as a reference, Front: + 21 Rear: +6.

Flex: 7 out of 10 but not on the stiff side. Between the Custom and the Custom X.

Overall Feel

Let's break it here, I have a love story with Burton freeride oriented snowboards and especially the Burton Custom, the Supermodel, and the Balance. The Terje pro model which is the Balance is my favorite all time favorite snowboard; from its narrow waist to its freeride to halfpipe versatility this is not a forgiving board but it gives you that confidence you need.

To me, the Speed Date is a freeride modern day tech adaptation of this all time classic. A T7 shape blended with a tapered tail of 7mm just as if you took a Custom X and put directional camber with the nose of the Juice Wagon and the tail of the Flight Attendant. A culmination of Burton's expertise of the freestyle/freeride/all-mountain boards.

It does not feel too stiff or too soft but it is just the right combination of every element that makes me love snowboarding. I own the 156cm and I ride many boards on a weekly basis from 149cm to 163cm and the Speed Date feels small for its lenght and seems to be able to turn real quick just like a 150cm board. And, honestly, sometimes I wished I also owned the 161cm because the extra lenght would be great for surfy turns and a more laid back riding.

Powder

In powder you have nice float from the 7mm taper and easy turning especially in trees and narrow sections. There's a downside to the narrow waist and it is the possible boot dragging, which I do not experienced with size 8 US boots and positive binding angles. It is a fast board and is handles powder as if it was nothing. It can be a really surfy ride and begs to be ridden on the tail with that rockered nose and directional camber.

Carving and turning

This is one of the best carving boards I've ever owned, despite its waist of 248mm that can easily be a no go for many riders with bigger feet, it is the perfect size for my 8 US boots. It holds an edge so good you would believe and the short sidecut of 7.65m mkaes it a great board to make tight turns in the trees. It is quick edge to edge and it wants to turn and rip.

One thing that challenged me at first was the directional camber with the rocker nose; I had to lean a bit more on my back feet while entering into deep turns and carves because the nose would bend on me. Many told me it was a matter of how the camber is set and I kind of believe it can be that. Many of my traditional camber boards never did that on me and most of the Burton directional camber boards tend to do that when rode more agressively.

Speed

As its name says it, the Speed Date wants to charge full speed down every piste you go. It brings my confidence at a level few other boards did on any condition. In fact, I think the board is even better on hard pack and icy conditions since it rips so much. Stable and responsive and so much fun. The recycle WFO base is fast and depsite being white, which is in my opinion the worst base color for maintain, cleaning, and tuning it is super hard and fast.

Uneven Terrain

Since it has a short sidecut and narrow waist it slaloms and turns real quick in chunder and its small taper of 7mm makes it really easy into all kinds of terrains. There was never a situation I wished I had another board under my feet. Except maybe the jib park, where I prefer to have a more forgiving flex board like a Custom Camber and a bit cheaper or a beater board than a high end Famity Tree snowboard.

Jumps

Surprisingly, this is a board that reminded me of the Burton Balance and its jump factor is great and I even brought it into the halfpipe and I holds its edges pretty well. However, it is not a freestyle snowboard and there are many better options out there, like a Burton Custom camber.

Verdict

For me, this one is a keeper and sits on a throne by itself. If I ever have to pick only one board to keep and get rid of all the other ones I have this would be it. In case of doubt, always bring the Speed Date and it makes a great complement to my Burton Fortress 154cm (wait for this review to come out and you'll be surprised!).

I love the feel, the shape, the graphics, and the way I ride with it I almost feel like a professionnal. Almost...

Now go out and ride!

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh82uPrCDe3YI4Q7au5ozhuTBbjJsd-gGAQMo4IZkkn-QtYpu2PDSN5rY7L5TJDIpFghoS8GXlEy7N_9gcCFOAHXta5rtR3Yu6wD9SPhILQmT0XdsHrS_CnR3OhGqzp-qPj-5SkhdTqW8k/s3087/20210916_082302.jpg" to 4", 23" stance Front +24 Back +9

Flex: Medium hard to hard, 8,5 on 10, 10 being the hardest.

Overall Feel

Fullbag snowsurfs are boards for advanced riders and they are pretty stiff. Designed by legendary Québécois Miguel Marco, strong of his many decades on snowboards and skateboards. The boards' construction is strong and the black base is tough.
With all that said, the Blunt Diamond 156 cm is a real treat for the all mountain freeride ripper. It is stable and it is surprising how it wants to work along with you. It is stiff but doesn't feel stiff like a plank. Really easy to manoeuver from slow to too fast speeds. It gives you that extra confidence that a bomber boards have.

Its wide waist (260 mm) has great float and for a 8 US footed rider like me I never have any drag which is real nice in powder or in deep carves. The nice taper (28 mm) helps the float and enhance the directional drive that the Blunt Diamond gives you. Despite this taper, I found it pretty fun to ride switch because its medium-stiff flex is a nice helper for the switch riding rider that I am. On the topic of directional riding, the unsettling setback was giving me some challenge since I like to have some tail for railing turns and slashing side pistes, and popping off anything. So, I often rode it with the back binding closer to the center of the board instead of too much setback and the results are interesting especially on groomers where you don't need that much setback.

Powder

Well, knowing Mig (last year we rode together a couple of times) and bits of the brand, powder is what they breath and the Blunt Diamond is your go-to board for powder, fresh snow, and untouched terrain. As said before, the 260 mm waist, the 28 mm taper and the 7,5 cm setback speaks for itself.

Carving and turning

Another wheelhouse from Fullbag is the slogan "A pow board that can definitely carve". So the Diamond Blade is almost a boardercross board, the little brother, the Blunt Diamond has this carving element from its camber and the nice sidecut. It is stable in turns and especially in carves. You can push it and do any kind of carves you want with it.

Fullbag is all about turning and they were carvers way before it became a trend and they will continue long after the wave has passed. The Blunt Diamond is true to that from start to finish.

Only downer is the 260 mm waist that is not the best for my 8 US feet on the side of edge to edge turning time, but gives me other advantages than for the edge to edge speed.

Speed

Stable and so strong it gives you that extra confidence you need in the pitch sections and even the hard pack and/or icy sections of the slopes you can go withtout fear.

Uneven Terrain

It does a great job but I found it a bit wide in those conditions and felt a little pushed around since I am not a heavy rider neither a big footed rider (8 US). Handle rightly the board can give you the best of a snowstorm especially for the slashing and surfing side of pistes.

Jumps

This is not a jump board neither a park board. But an advanced rider will have some fun in the jump line as the 156 cm is stable and can handle landings at high speeds and even switch landings were really fun on that directional beast. Not a twin board but if you are reading this you are not looking for a board to do 720 or pipe.

However, as I said in my introduction, I tend to set the back binding closer to the center of the board and cheat a bit on the shape of the board and it creates an interesting ride for times when fresh snow isn't available, which is often the case here in the Quebec City area.

Verdict

This is a great board for the advanced rider ho needs a powder board that can handle any condition on the mountain. In fact, the 156 cm is really fun in fresh snow/powder conditions, but which board isn't? Well, this one is far better than your average board.

With all that said, it was probably a better board than I was a rider back when I owned it almost five seasons ago. And now in 2021, I actually am looking to get one again in my quiver as I think I will probably enjoy it much more.

Now go out and ride!

*All pictures are borrowed from Fullbag.com.*

Specs:

Size: 156 cm

Effective edge: 116.5 cm

Contact length: 90.5 cm

Nose length: 26 cm

Tail length: 13.5 cm

Nose width: 31.2 cm

Waist width: 26 cm

Tail width: 28.4 cm

Sidecut: 8 m

Taper: 28 mm

Width at front inserts: 27.3 cm

Width at rear inserts: 26.6 cm

Ref. stance: 54 cm

Stance range: 50cm - 60 cm

Setback: 7.5 cm

Flex description: medium stiff

<div class="separator" 165 lbs

Conditions

Hard pack to powder to slush mostly at Le Relais, near Quebec City.

Boots: ThirtyTwo Premium Lashed 8 US
Bindings: 2021 Now xYes Medium with Hard bushings
Set Up: 22" stance and one inch setback, angles Front: +24 Back +9

Flex: Medium to Medium Hard I would give it a 7 out of 10, 10 being the hardest.

Overall Feel

The Landlord is an easy to ride directionnal camber board that rides like a lot of the latter years Burton freeride board with the rocker nose and the camber under the back foot. This makes this board easier to manoeuver everywhere but with a surprising twist.

Powder

It is his natural habitat, one of the best days I had last year was an early morning just after a nice Quebec snowstorm and I had one side of the resort almost only for me and I could just make my turns and see them in the chairlift after. The board floats and turns like a fish in the water. Effortless slashes and edge turns in more than a feet of powder.

Carving and turning

One of its strenghts is how easy you can turn this board even if the flex would tell you otherwise. The setback camber, taper, and sidecut makes it a very reliable board. The Landlord owns the carving section of the mountain but if you ask me there are other boards that can lay a carve better and I thought it was good to very good but not excellent in this department.

Speed

With its core and construction, the Landlord can handle speed and it stays stable almost like a Custom X or like my Speed Date.

Uneven Terrain

It is a tank and nothing can attain the stability of it. Huge slush banks was its end when it came to stability which is okay because it is great everywhere else.

Jumps

It will get you the extra mile that you need when hitting the park line and just like the tech that is similar to what they put in a Custom X you will have your ass saved. This is not a park board but it can handle the occasionnal jumps. I would not put this on rails or boxes but it will handle them.

Verdict

As in the line of Burton's all-mountain freeride boards like the Supermodel, the Barracuda, the Flight Attendant, the Landlord could be a quiver killer for the right rider. Personally, I owned it for one season and I loved it everytime I got it on snow. However, as I still ride a 2009 Supermodel 163 cm and a Speed Date 156 cm, the Landlord seemed to overlap both and the directional camber was off putting for me as I prefered the Supermodel's trad camber.

This board has a lot to offer especially if you often have fresh snow and can ride powder often. It can handle a lot and I loved it because I always loved those all-mountain freeride board from Burton. But it rides just like a B board and if you already have one of the following maybe look elsewhere (Barracude, Supermodel, Flight Attendant, Malolo) if not, try to find one on the Family Tree Vault oy any other Facebook group that solds used boards.

Now go out and ride!
<div class="separator"
Overall Impression

As my first try on a Never Summer board ever, I got the opportunity to take the Twenty Five out for a day at my local resort. I doubted that I would like the Rocker profile because I was not a big fan of it on some other boards I owned and tested prior to this.

However, NS made me question myself on my appreciation of the Hybrid Rocker concept. The Twenty Five responded to my obsession with turning and carving nice clean lines in hard to icy snow with no problem. The only thing I am sad about is that I didn't had to try it in fresh powder. With its carbon reinforced tail I'm sure I would have even love it a lot more.

It is a fun board not too hard to handle and the advanced to expert rider could have a good time buttering and carving. There is a lot of great tech in this and it is a board with lots, LOTS, of potential. The downside would be if you are a park rat other than jumps and directional pipe (which there was none at the resort I went) the freestyle possibilities are a bit restrained by the short tail and the directional shape.

With that board you have perfect edge hold on whatever condition full control at thigh speed, and man that thing goes fast. It could be a great board for many uses but the only thing that stops it is the unique length of 163cm. For a 5’9’’ 165lbs rider spinning on flatground was almost not an option. Some riders could spin it with ease but it was the longest board I have ever ridden and it took me some time to get used to it. On snow, it handles like a shorter board surprisingly and happily because the hybrid camber and stiffness could be a challenge but not that much. It proves the great design in mind of its creator (Mig Fullbag).

So, if you are interested in this board they are doing lots of demo in the East Coast and I had a personal demo with their rider Louis Ricard that took an evening of his time let me ride this bomb of a board.

Score: 84%

2012-13 New Releases: E-Gal Eyes

More than ten years ago, when I made my first ever Website, it was designed to pay homage to Peter Line. At that time the Mack Dawg video Decade just got out. He was my second favorite snowboarder after Canadian sensation Kevin Young.

Peter Line has been one of the most influential figures of Freestyle Snowboarding in the 1990's and early 2000's. His video parts were sicker and more progressive than any other rider around. He is also widely recognized for having founded Forum Snowboards, Foursquare Outerwear, and Special Blend that he later sold to Burton Snowboards.

With Forum, Peter wanted to get the best team of snowboarders together. Well, he did with his famous Forum 8 that consisted of J.P. Walker, Jeremy Jones, Bjorn Leines, Chris Dufficy, Joni Malmi, Wille Yli-Luoma, and Devun Walsh.

After almost a four year break, Line got back into filming video parts in 2008 for the Forum video Forum or Against 'em. He still has his pro-model at Forum and has a column in Snowboarder Magazine.

I suggest to anyone who is not acquainted to his style to watch clips of his parts on YouTube.
