I just received a great question from a Power of Food Fan on my Facebook Fanpage

The question was…..

Do sprouted grain breads still contain gluten?

Here is my answer…...

If it is made with a glutinous grain such as wheat, spelt, kamut or rye, then yes. 99.9% of the sprouted grain breads on the market are made with wheat, so yes it will still contain gluten.

What a great question. Do you have a question you would like to have answered? Ask away!

A Note from the Universe

Hello Power of Foodies

I want you to read the below statement. Wherever you see an underscored line such as this one ______________, please say you name and continue reading the statement.

Are you ready? Here we go…......

“If it’s not yet obvious to you, the real reason for this, and all seasons, is you, ___________. A more perfect child of the Universe has never lived. Until now, only celebrations cloaked in myth and mystery could hint at your divine heritage and sacred destiny. You are life’s prayer of becoming and its answer. The first light at the dawn of eternity, drawn from the ether, so that I might know my own depth, discover new heights, and revel in seas of blessed emotion.

A pioneer into illusion, an adventurer into the unknown, and a lifter of veils. Courageous, heroic, and exalted by legions in the unseen.

To give beyond reason, to care beyond hope, to love without limit; to reach, stretch, and dream, in spite of your fears. These are the hallmarks of divinity - traits of the immortal - your badges of honor. May you wear them with a pride as great as the immeasurable pride we feel for you.

Your light has illuminated darkened paths, your gaze has lifted broken spirits, and already your life has changed the course of history.

This is the time of year we celebrate __________.

Bowing before greatness,

___________, we’re wishing you all the happiness in the world!”

The Universe

I want to thank Mike Dooley and his Notes from the Universe. The above statement is one of many notes I have received over the years and post in my intention practice space. I find these notes very powerful and wanted to share this special one with you. If you found this inspiring, you can sign up to have Note from the Universe sent to your inbox every morning through http://www.tut.com

You can event copy and paste the one above and post it where you can read it every morning.

Now go out and have an amazing day!

Which Body Part Can Jump Start Your Day?

Hey…..I know what your thinking, but let’s not go there…..ooops..I guess I just did!

It’s funny how the mind likes to wonder and create all sorts of answers to this question. Have you figured it out yet, the one body part that can jump start your day? I have already given you the answer. Do you know what it is?

With an average weight of 3 pounds you wouldn’t think (oops, I just gave the answer away again) this body part is as powerful as it is, but it controls your every outcome.

If you are battling with your weight
If you suffer from the mid afternoon crashes
If you find yourself struggling to get out of bed in the morning….....

This one body part above all others can help you shift all your challenges with ease.

Yes, you know this body part very well. It is the single most powerful part of who you are…......

YOUR BRAIN!

Your every outcome in life, whether it is your health, relationships or career is driven by how you engage your brain. Scientifically, the function of the brain is quite complex with thousands of parts all interacting with one another. For simplicity sake, your ability to live a life of abundance is in your understanding of the following:

Your brain controls your thoughts = your thoughts lead to every feeling you have = your feelings lead to your actions = your daily actions become your habits. It is your habits that create your results.

If you want to know if you control your mind or your mind controls you, all you need to do is look at every result in your life and you will get a very clear picture.

On average you have over 70,000 thoughts per day. Unfortunately in North America we find ourselves living in a system that is dominated by negatives. All you have to do is read a newspaper or watch the news to understand this concept. It is very difficult to have positives dominate your life if negatives surround you.

2 Step To Freedom

To unlock your habitual patterns deeply engrained in you subconscious there are 2 steps you can take.

1. Eat more plant based, nutrient rich foods
2. Engage your intentions in a meaningful way

It’s amazing the space that begins to develop between how you FEEL and how you ACT when you take these 2 steps. It is this space between your feelings and actions that your ability to change your every outcome appears.

I would like to help make this easy for you to experience and my book e3 For LIFE walks you through the steps in detail.

It is not an overnight quick fix. This takes practice, but your results begin, not in years or months, but in a matter of days.

ARE YOUR READY?

You have 1 life to live. Would you like to slowly go through the rest of your life status quo or would you like to be a part of changing the course of history?

I encourage you to take advantage of your March Newsletter and know that you have just read the above information for a reason.

I look forward to being a part of your success.

The month of February is a special month. Not only do we begin to see more sunshine (yaaa), but it’s also the time of year where we get to put a little extra attention towards our loved ones thanks to Valentine’s Day. For this reason I would like to introduce you to one of the healthiest foods on the planet.

If you are hoping I am going to say chocolate…..you would be correct!

Chocolate, in it’s raw form, is one of the healthiest foods you could eat. I am not talking about eating a snickers or even dark chocolate. What I am talking about is the raw cacao bean that is 100% the real deal.

The raw cacao bean contains one of the highest sources of antioxidants on the planet. Which is the primary way you protect yourself from free radicals that cause disease and weaken your performance if you are an athlete. It is also an amazing source of iron, magnesium, vitamin C & fibre.

Not only is raw chocolate great for boosting your mood, but it enhances athletic performance. For all you runners or bikers out there, try eating a few raw cacao beans before and during your training or race and see what happens to your energy levels. Awesome stuff!

Using raw cacao beans to enhance your performance as an athlete is a must. Using it to enhance your love life, that is a no brainer.

Do you want to really impress a loved one this Valentine’s day, make them some homemade chocolate? Recently I shared with you my recipe for my “Guilt Free Chocolate Bars” . This is the best chocolate on the planet. It is so silky and smooth and full of life giving nutrients. Make sure you take another look if you missed it in my recipe section…..but not yet….be sure to read the rest of this post before you do.

I have also just added another amazing Recipe to share with you how easy it is to use raw chocolate to enhance you health.

This recipe is for my Scrumptious Chocolate Pudding

MMMMMM Raw Chocolate….now go and get some!

Hey Adam, I’ve been using the Power of Food for almost a month and lost about 10lb. And I feel great. I didn’t’ find that transition to eating 50-80% whole food a day as hard as I thought and my cravings for sweets have really diminished. The book is very inspiring and well thought out. If anyone else is thinking about trying this all encompassing way of being healthy I’d encourage you to give it a try. A few weeks ago I shared with you a little about one of my Power of Food Coaching clients, Jo-Anne.

Recently Jo-Anne finished 3 months of Power of Food Coaching with me personally and I am happy to let you know….

SHE IS ROCKING IT IN 2011!

Here is her recent email she sent me and has offered it to you to share in the energy.

WAY TO GO JO-ANNE!

The time you and I spent together did definitely provide me with a solid foundation to begin creating my own particular world.

I’m continuing to read and collect books and information to expand my knowledge, still trying to identify those foods that are best suited to my own body but all will come into place in time. I have resumed practicing Reiki - I had received my Level 1 way back in 2009 but I can see now - that the present time is its time.

I’ve incorporated this practice into my Sacred Space (this is Jo-Anne’s name for her intention room featured in my book e3 For LIFE under “My First Ten”), which is definitely becoming more of a habit and time that I look forward to each day. Expanding it now to a regular evening practice as well.

I’m still on the path of becoming vegetarian. As I learn more it is feeling more natural to me and for me. I feel a sense of calm and confidence growing within me and the space around me which is such a positive experience and such great assistance for me in my day to day life.

Tonight’s dinner is glazed root vegetables with wild and brown rice pilaf. And I’ve a plate of sprouted buckwheat on standby to make some grawnola.

So, all is well in my world - thank you so much once again for your coaching. I will have to see what’s new now on your webpage and facebook - I’m a little behind there! take care Adam and I look forward to hearing from you soon, Jo-Anne

Thank you Jo-Anne for allowing me to coach you and share in your amazing energy!

Local health coach Adam Hart’s new book is called E3 for Life: 3 Elements for Attaining Abundant Health and Happiness with Ease.

It could easily have been called Before & After: Adam Hart’s Quest for Healthy Eating & Living. For it’s as much a guide to healthy eating and living as it’s a personal parable for what can go wrong if we blind outselves to what we put in out mouth.

Hart was born in Toronto, where he grew up on a steady diet of processed and junk food. The reigning ethos of the baby boomer generation was to consider fast food as a novelty and his parents were no different; fast and processed food slowly took over as the staple food in his home.

,“As kids, we were told that if we behaved well, we’d get a treat at McDonald’s,” Hart says, summing up that social milieu in one sentence.

Sedentary life style, treats in McDonald’s and frozen Swanson dinners: all closed ranks to punish his body and mind. By 26, he was 40 pounds overweight, diagnosed as prediabetic, and suffering from ADHD (Attention-Deficit Hyper-Activity Disorder).

Hart felt unhealthy and stressed out and he wanted to turn a new chapter in his life. He moved to British Columbia, first to Golden and then to Squamish.

And here he is now at 38, sitting at the Zephyr Cafe (a place closely aligned to his values), ruddy and glowing with health, and brimming with knowledge on healthy eating, a far cry from the rotund, pizza-gobbling Adam that can be seen on some pages of this book.

So, what changed and how ? That, in essence, is the take-away from this book.

There is a glut of books on healthy eating and living, but Hart says his book is practical in that it doesn’t dabble in any lose-weight-quick schemes.

Rather, it gently prods the readers to replace unhealthy food with healthy plant-based foods.

“I don’t suggest any restriction on diet. It’s really about slowly replacing processed foods with high-energy food,” he says,”

One such food, he says, is hemp seeds. Nutty and delicious, he suggests that it be sprinkled into every meal of the day.

“It has a lot of protein, it’s easier for digestion, it keeps your energy high throughout the day and it leads to less craving,” he says.

In the pantheon of great food, he places hemp seeds side by side with ground flax seeds and Quinoa.

“Once you introduce plants based food into your diet, you will feel energetic and healthy. If there’s one simple thing that you could do, it’s this: realise the difference between plant based food and processed food,” he says.

Once that’s done, you can flip to page 67, where Hart begins to provide readers with recipes that incorporate the plant based foods he so strongly believes in.

From Yummy Yummy Yam Fries to Coconut Quinoa Curry, there’s a lot more recipes and some practical advice in the book if you are determined to push yourself slowly from Pizza to Quinoa, from Mac to flax.

E3 for Life is available at Zephyr Cafe, Kitchen Quickies, and at The Squamish Bookshelf.
