The input voltage range for the units is from 10 to 50V DC which allows them to work with 12, 24, or 48 volt battery operated or distributed DC power systems. The standard output voltage for the PCM-DC-AT500 is +5V @ 20A. For the triple output PCM-DC-AT512, the voltages are +5V@20A, +12V @ 3A, and -12V @ 0.5A. Both versions will operate from -40° to +85°C with no fans or heat sinks and are well suited for applications including pipelines, transportation, communications, solar power, and military.

The power supplies have no minimum load requirement to bring the units into regulation. All the outputs have overvoltage and short circuit protection plus overcurrent protection as well. Both have individual LED indicators which display a visual status of each regulated output.

Power is input through a standard 2-pin plug and connector system for easy connection and removal. The output voltage is wired directly to the PC/104 connector. On the PCM-DC-AT512 there are also two, four-pin connectors at the edge of the board to provide +5V and +12V to disk drives and other accessories. Both the PCM-DC-AT500 and PCM-DC-AT512 are PC/104 and RoHS-compliant. They measure 3.6” x 3.8” (90mm x 96mm).

Stackpole’s flameproof RNS Series is ideal for existing designs that require downsizing or added features. It is also a popular choice for new designs that require the smallest form factor possible for a given power rating. Specifically, the RNS Series 1W has an EIA standard ¼ watt body size, and the RNS 2W has an EIA standard ½ watt body size. The RNS is able to achieve this high power handling performance through tight manufacturing control of a unique power film alloy. The standard flameproof silicone coating enhances its usefulness at high power levels. In addition, the RNS series is capable of precision tolerances down to 0.5% and TCR’s as low as 25 ppm.

The RNS Series performance will be useful in a variety of applications and end products. Among the applications would be home appliances, solid state power supplies, instrumentation, safety equipment, welding systems, robotics, and industrial power and control applications where an axial leaded resistor robust performance under harsh environmental conditions is desired. Pricing will vary depending on size, tolerance, and TCR and ranges from $0.015 to $0.045 each in full reel quantities.

TDK-Lambda Americas has launched the new CPFE1000F series of baseplate/conduction-cooled power supplies capable of providing up to 1000-watts without fans or forced-air cooling, thereby providing audible-noise-free operation. With a baseplate and ambient operating temperature range of from -40 up to +85°C this new series of AC-DC power supplies will be of special interest to designers who need high-power but cannot use fans, or where the power supply is mounted in an enclosure.

These single output power supplies operate with a wide universal input range of from 90 to 265VAC with PFC and are available with DC outputs of 12V, 28V (adjustable to 24V) or 48VDC. Due to its wide output adjustment range of +/- 20%, the output voltage can be set to match a variety of customer-specific applications. The outputs of these units can be con-nected in series or parallel for higher power applications.

The CPFE1000F series was designed for harsh indoor or outdoor environments and are ideal for such applications as LED signage, RF broadcast, COTS-military, noise-sensitive Audio/Video equipment, food processing and other industrial/commercial applications. The power supply’s baseplate is designed to easily attach to metal enclosures or other heat-sinking surfaces, thus eliminating the need for fans or forced-air-cooling. To guard against moisture, dust and other containments, the internal PCB assembly has a protective coating.

A distinguishing feature of the CPFE1000F series is its internal I2C bus interface which can send operational parameters of the power supply to remote locations. These parameters include: output voltage, output current, baseplate temperature, serial number, model number and date-code. In addition, the I2C interface provides a means to turn the power supply On or Off from a remote site and receive DC Good and over-temperature signals. In addition to the I2C bus, traditional signals/controls are provided including an Output Good signal, Remote On/Off control, Remote-Sense lines, Active Current-Share, and an Auxiliary-Output of 12V/20mA.

All models in the CPFE1000F series include TDK-Lambda’s two-year warranty and meet EN55022/EN55011 Class B and MIL-STD 461/462D CE102 EMC specifications, thereby simplifying system designs. In addition, these supplies meet shock and vibration specs per MIL-STD-810E under operating and non-operating conditions. “Power supplies that meet the tough EMI specs per MIL-STD 461/462D, plus shock and vibration specs per MIL-STD-810E, are often custom-designs and can cost up to 10 times the price of the CPFE1000F,” says David Norton, V.P. of Marketing for TDK-Lambda Americas. “The CPFE1000F provides a very reasonably priced COTS power solution. In addition, these units feature a lightning surge capability of up to 6kV and an input-to-output isolation of 4.25kVdc, ensuring the supplies will be both rugged and reliable,” says Norton.

The new 1000-watt baseplate/conduction-cooled CPFE1000F models are available now and priced at $825.00 each in 50 piece quantities.

Delphi Automotive will display its Wireless Device Charging System at the Consumer Electronics Show next week. Currently under development, the wireless charging system transmits power over distance to deliver a charge without precise positioning of the electronic device receiving the charge. It would eliminate the clutter, inconvenience and distractions associated with multiple charging cords in the vehicle cabin and replace them with a safe, convenient and efficient automatic charging system.

“From navigation systems to cell phones to personal computing devices, we are tied to our favorite electronics, but we won’t always have to be tied to charging cords for them to work,” said Christopher Reider, global director of engineering, Delphi Connection Systems. “Instead, our system will use magnetic fields from hidden power source resonators placed in the vehicle interior to automatically power these devices through high-efficiency, hands-free charging.”

Revolutionary Design

Delphi is testing the system on research vehicles and intends to be production-ready by model year 2014. The Delphi Wireless Device Charging System makes use of the same magnetic resonance technology as the Delphi Wireless Electric Vehicle Charging System. Magnetic resonance technology is superior to traditional inductive charging because it can transmit power over greater distances, does not require precise device positioning in order to deliver a charge and will be able to charge multiple devices at the same time. The consumer devices simply need to be in proximity to the power source, not directly touching it. Traditional inductive charging systems are limited to charging only one device per charging coil and the device must be resting on top of the pad to receive a charge.

Multiple charging cords in the vehicle cabin lead to clutter, inconvenience and distractions.

Safe & Convenient

Freeing drivers from charging cords is not only convenient, it will help create a safer driving experience. The Delphi Wireless Device Charging System is being engineered with consumers and automakers in mind, and will provide a competitive advantage to OEMs who choose to offer it as an option on their future vehicles.

“Our system is being designed to activate the moment a device is detected within the range of the charging pad and will fully charge the device at a rate comparable to most plug-in chargers. What could be more convenient than that?” said Bob Fust, global product line leader, data connectivity, Delphi Packard Electrical/Electronic Architecture. “This innovative development will allow drivers to focus on driving when they are behind the wheel.”

Delphi has a full portfolio of plug-in and wireless charging systems for electric vehicles as well a complete line of data connectivity products including cables, connectors and consumer ports to allow communication of audio, video and navigation data within the vehicle.
