Have you ever wondered how the company you now know and love, PowerBook Medic, got its start? We took a minute and asked the CEO and Founder, Bradley Wallace, for a brief history of where it all began.

My passion for computers really started with my dad. My dad always bought the latest and greatest technology and had me playing on the first Mac when I was still in diapers. As luck would have it, those first Macs he had, ended up broken in my parent’s attic. One day in high school I took them out, fixed them, and sold them on eBay. I continued to buy, fix, and sell units in my college dorm until I eventually was asked to leave the dorms because I was getting too many packages. From there came the Apple revolution and the growth of our company.

I officially started the business in December of 2002 before iPhones and iPads. At that time it was primarily Powerbook G3s and Powerbook G4s. The turning point would be the release of the iPhone and then iPad. Later, we started our component level repair department due to Apple’s decreasing the repairability of devices. It’s crazy to look back and see where we started, and after 17 years, how far we have come.

We put together a list of FAQ about our Logic Board Repair service.

1. How much does the Logic Board Service cost?

If you send in the Logic Board only its
$249.95 and if you send in the complete unit it is $344.95.

2. How long does it take?

It depends on volume of repairs we have
in shop and also availability of parts. But it usually takes between
5-7 business days.

3. Do I need to send in my whole machine?

It is up to you! However, sometimes the
issue may not be with the logic board at all, it may be another
component on your machine. So if you are not sure exactly what is
wrong, it may be better to send in the whole machine for our free
diagnosis. Also, if your machine is water damaged, it is better to
send in the whole machine as there is probably more wrong with it
than just the board itself.

4. If I am sending in just the Logic Board, do I need to leave the fans, speakers, RAM, etc. attached?

No, if you are sending in just the
Logic Board, please remove the fans, speakers, RAM, and heat sink.
All we need is the board!

5. My MacBook Pro 2011 GPU has failed. Do you fix that?

Yes we do! We have done hundreds of
these repairs. We actually replace the failed GPU with a new one,
this is a solution that lasts longer than just reflowing the GPU.

6. My MacBook has liquid damage! What do I do?

We would be happy to take a look at it
for you! In a lot of cases we are able to replace the parts that have
corroded and get it back in working order. Just make sure you send in
the whole machine as it is normally multiple components that need to
be replaced on the machine.

7. Do you offer a warranty on Logic Board repair?

Yes we do! We offer a six month
warranty on all our Logic Board repairs.

8. I want to try the repair myself. Can you help?

We have a series of videos on YouTube
that show how to take apart devices and also on Logic Board Repair.
https://www.youtube.com/user/PowerbookMedic

Are
you wondering our process after you send off your beloved machine to
us? Let’s break it down.

First off, we have multiple shipping options. You can choose which is best for you! Depending on which one you chose and where you live we will usually get it in 1-5 business days (of course, international shipping can take much longer).

Once
it arrives at our facility, we log it in to our system. This sends
you an automatic email saying we received it and it has been added to
the repairs queue. The machine will be looked at in the order it
arrived, unless it’s an RMA, these get pushed up to the top.
Usually we will look at and diagnosis your machine within 1-3
business days. Our highly trained techs carefully look over the
machine, document anything they see wrong with it, and diagnose the
problem.

At
this point, we write up a quote for you and wait for you either to
confirm or reject the suggested repairs. Remember, we offer free
diagnosis, so if you decide you would rather not proceed with the
repair, we will ship it back to you and all you are responsible for
is the cost of shipping. Not a bad deal!

If
you decide to proceed with the repair, we will get started as soon as
we get your email confirmation to go ahead. Depending on part
availability and volume of repairs we have in shop it could take 4-5
business days to complete your repair. Once we complete your repair,
we run it through a series of tests to make sure everything is
running smoothly. We then email you again telling you we have
finished the repair and asking for your payment method. After we
receive payment, we get the machine packed up and sent back with your
choice of shipping methods.

Our
goal is to make this process as painless as possible. We understand
you are students, business owners, busy professionals, and people who
just love their machines. We get it! Feel free at any point to email
us with any questions you might have and thank you for trusting us
with your business!
