WIP: Wii Chick

A preview of a series i came up with that takes the current gen game systems and creates hot pin-ups of them. Guess who lucky contestant number 1 is !

Above is the Line-art process i go through. I actually go through several stages to get the look im going for. Just a bunch of technical adjusting, contrast, grey levels...you get the idea ;)

I am currently coloring it photo-shop and you will see it soon on my DA Page! Watch out for miss PS3, and XBOX360 soon.

WIP: Super Size Me

I just wanted to show you guys how i do a commissioned piece like the one for my client

Sempia Kevin called Super Size Me.

This is the process of creating a full digital colored single character render. First you start off with:

1. Line-art. Scanned, B&W levels adjusted, & finally tweeked and cleaned. I simply use a white brush, or the eraser if you don't want any fills in-between the line strokes.

2.Basic colors. Most artist start with a base coat with no depth or value. Since i work with art that has white fills, i tend to select each area with one of PS's many selection tools. Since that area is selected, i go ahead and add sharp cascading shadows along the outer part of the shape i have selected. Its exciting for me because the image tends to look more complete earlier on.

3.After the basic colors are done, and all the shadow work is done then i go ahead and add the highlights and soft shadow works. I use different tints for the hard/dark shadow and shades for the blending shadows.

4.At the 4th stage the image is complete, and im cleaning/pruning the detail. Hues & saturation are adjusted accordingly and the over all process is complete...remember god is in the details so be sure to take time at this point. I also added some textures, and i nice little fish net effects to our stockings.

5.Finished. Added some things like the ear rings ect.

6. Thought id throw in a dragon tattoo, cause dragon tattoos on hot Asian chick are cool XD

Goth School Girl - WIP

Just wanted to share a few things i do when preparing a scanned piece for digital color.
This is a particular piece i was working on. Its supposed to be a parody of those school girls in anime with the big Doey eyes and super deformed proportions.
Turn up
the cheese-o-meter by making her goth and "ta-daa" insta fan service to half the internet.

After u have scanned and cleaned my artwork i start by adjusting the levels of white and black in photoshop

and clean up any stray lines and un-sightly blemishes. I keep the image in gray scale so that i can gauge the range of shading better. Its just something that works better for me, but you will most certainly find artist that do it in a different manner.

I do everything in grey tones...clothes, skin, everything i can. After i get into a comfortable spot and see where the image is headed then i will change adjust the image mode to RGB. After that its time to color with the full spectrum. I use RGB since most of my work is digital and i am not going to print it.

In the spirit of my new found muse, i have decided to open up another sector of blogs
updates labeled W.I.P. It stands for Work In Progress, and can be archived in the upper left corner of this blogs column. I will showcase thumbnails, and sketches related to upcoming art projects, and commissions.

If you have been keeping up with my blog i have decided to undertake a project creating the very classy miss Boa Hancock. If you have ever wondered my step by step method of accomplishing an artistic endeavor then please keep up with the updates yet to come.

I think i have been over this once before. I usually pick a very relevant (close to original) drawing/representation of the character. Picking a stylized version of her, or one that someone else has created kind of distorts the source material and defeats the purpose of doing MY version of her.

And for this very reason i find that using the toys, or statuettes...or whatever you call them; is perfect for reference. They are great for having a 3d perceptive of the character, there's usually tons of available images on the web, and the characteristics are usually close to the originals.

Thumbnails

This is the first step when i start to cook up an idea for a drawing. Thumbnails are great as they are quick, easy little doddle that give you an idea of the stances, props and overall look of the drawing. It doesn't have to be perfect because its not going to be part of the final piece and so you can go nuts with the designs and stances. In the end, whats important is that you capture the energy you had when you first thought of the project and what you had in mind when creating the piece.

WIP: Boa Hancock Part 1

Project Hancock

Boa Hancock is on priority for next project. But can i pull it off without knowing who the character truly is?

The name is familiar but i have yet to formally meet this character in print, or animated assuming shes part of the show. What Show? Well that One Peice thing ...ya remember with the pirates and the localized dubbed vanilla ice intro? OK forget all that. The series has always struck a cord with true fans but i must admit, i couldn't really get into it despite my greatest efforts. Yes, yes i even went straight with the subs (something that halted me from pressing that reject button on naruto so long ago) but it just didn't do it for me.

So on a whim i get the mention of this lovely character and i decide to Google her name for giggles...and boy did i get some. That devious little school boy giggle you got when you found your first dirty mag and was thumbing through the pages with your bros. What...you don't remember such things ? Ha, the internet wasn't always around you know XD

Anyway, this lovely lady will be the focus of my Artistic attention for the next few days (expect to see some fanart soon). Why so many screens of the toy...er...action figure or whatever you guys call them ? Well, they tend to make the best 3D models, especially since they don't itch, sneeze or break wind :) Expect to see her on my DA page soon. Bye for now guys.
