Turning 30...

I almost posted this on Bunz Helping Zone this morning. After experiencing some anxiety to looking ahead to my last year in my twenties, I honestly realized how much I actually have to look forward to! This may sound cliche but it’s how I felt. After feeling like “I’ve done it all”, I created a bucket list for my 30s after I’ll spend my 29th year raising my second baby, going back to work and starting yet another chapter with Phil and our babies.

- Learn a new skill for work

- Learning to live while working. Because I enjoy both and look forward to finding the balance between work, 2 kids in school and daycare and xtra curricular acitivities (and dates please)

- Go to Disneyland

- Continue to do as many acitivities as possible with my girls!!

- Put Annabelle in gymnastics

- Help Marielle learn to swim

- More family swimming dates

- Build a stronger body and worry less about food

- Drink less

- Learn to love tea (we’ll see)

- Go to more house parties. Come on guys throw more parties!

- Go on vacation

- Help make the Boivin reunion happen

- Minimum two weekends at the camp. Make it out to rake some leaves

- Celebrate year 9 & 10 of the Canadian Beatbox Championships and continue to help it grow

- Find a consistent babysitter

- See my family way more!

- Get married? OKAY fine I don't care but I at least want to be engaged. I promise I won't lose the ring?!

- Have a third kid when everyone else finally catches up? Hey I’m just being honest. I don’t like the idea of my girls being the babysitters but perhaps I need to embrace this!!

- Go on a family vacation

- Go on a vacation with just my boyfriend for once!! Will we be bored though??

- Embrace work trips

- More dancing! Embrace the women in my life today, 2 kids later.

- Own motherhood. I tend to stoop down to the “young mom” role and I need to stay confident.

- Volunteer
- Trip with my sisters
- Plane ride with my mom
- Helicopter ride with my kids and Phil

- Fly to Sudbury

- Make a scrapbook and learn to print and update our photos!! Why is this so hard to do.

- Join a workout or yoga class and remain consistent!!

- Express daily gratitude and work on a spiritual path and daily reminders

- Finish reading a book

- Return my library books on time (lol)

- Get a new vehicle

- Continue to remember my roots, my family who’s hear and who I’ve lost and remember the good old days. #WWGD

- Find a weekly or biweekly date night activity

- Not going to say buy a house. That’s for later...

I’ve been reading past threads this morning as I’m feeling silly. For some reason, I’m having anxiety turning 30. Maybe I’ve been watching This is us too quickly, because the show really proves that whether you're 20,30,40 or 50 - you always need your family and you're always growing. I’ve spent my 20s raising my babies, in a relationship, and heading back to work after a maternity leave. Some would say it’s ahead of the game for a normal 20-something Toronto gal. You know that feeling where you have it all but still feel alone? If anyone can share any good articles and advice to make me feel more motivated and less “old” to enter my 30s, I’d appreciate it.

Annabelle's name. What's in a name?!

I was walking in the park today singing Annabelle Rebecca Gordon Dixon and laughed. Gordon is Eric's middle name and Phil sang that one night when it was real early in the morning and we had one restless baby.

I began thinking about her name. Annabelle Rebecca Carrey Dixon. Rebecca because of her Godmother, my childhood friend. Scott was the alternate name we said, if we were going to have a boy, for Phil's best friend Scott. I loved the sound of Annabelle Rebecca Scott Dixon. But then I realized how much I love my last name, Carrey, and who says we can't put it in especially being that we're not married. Yet...cough. Anyways, it's also really important for me to carr(e)y on our name considering our family is all women and given our society and upbringing, we'll want to take our husband's name. My mom and family are very involved in our family genealogy so having my name in her birth records is golden. Annabelle Rebecca Carrey Dixon is on her certificate how ever at school, when she gets called to the principles office, her name will be Annabelle Dixon. When she pisses us off in her teen years- the whole name will come out. When we have to put her to sleep, we sing her whole name and when I'm hyper as can be, I like to call her Anna Rebecca.

Quick fact: I am Becca's daughter Chloe's godmother and my name is also in Chloe's name. Chloe wasn't baptized but that doesn't mean a thing (sorry if that offends people). Becca knew I would always be there for them no matter what and I love Chloe with all my heart! I love her so much I had to make my own little girl haha.

Sometimes I wonder why we chose just Rebecca and not Scott because they both are "god parents." I guess it was just a gender thing. We wanted my grandmothers' name but then we wanted our mothers and fathers and it got wayyy too complicating. Sometimes I wonder what to tell people when they ask why we have god parents if our baby is not baptized (yet). My intentions were to baptize. I think I blogged about this before. It's a traditional ceremony in my family- but not Phil's. He doesn't really have an opinion. I don't have a church in Toronto yet so I had the idea to hold a ceremony in Sudbury. Trying to time out Becca and Scott at once is hard! So we're not going to stress, if it can happen then it will. The most important thing is that we have god parents for Annabelle. Two people who had never met before our baby- but two people who have remained loyal to both Phil and I. They signify commitment, loyalty, friendship, laughter,dependence and love. They will always be the first people we turn to when we need a hand with Annabelle because and they have our full trust. They remind us that we'll never be alone and Annabelle will always have a friend.

I don't feel true to myself for letting my blog fall so behind.
I wasn't being true to my baby by always trying to squeeze in time to blog.
I have to remember this stemmed from the heart and I will post when needed. I also plan to still continue to post a picture everyday until she's 1 year old.
She is six months on Friday.
Can you believe that?
Things are changing quickly. She's such a little person now. She's my best friend, she's a monster, she's so happy. We're constantly complimented on our happy, long-eyelash beauty. She's making a lot more noise now and she's officially sitting on her own.
I also wanted to blog about the fact that she's transitioning to formula. Although I breastfed her a lot today. I can't stress the amazing feeling of nurturing someone through your own body. It's so beautiful and fun. Our reason to transition, aside from the fact that she's had her two bottom teeth since she was five months old, is the fact that her and I do need to be a bit more independent. We're like glue. I feed her, put her to bed, walk with her and constantly hold her. I also need to make sure I'm helping the entire family. Phil's gotten a second job to help support us. Because of my career- I can easily pick up random jobs where I don't have to commit fill time but I can bring in some money. I have a meeting tomorrow night and she'll be with Phil. After an emotional transition and several failed attempts over a couple of weeks, I know she'll take well to her formula bottle.
We're going to have a busy summer traveling, seeing as many people as possible. We miss our family up north. It's so different how much more I wish we were closer because I just want to share Annabelle's every moment with my family. The hardest part has been accepting the fact that everyone still has their own lives. I'm finding time to escape technology and get more active with my baby. I'm making time to contact and visit people. I feel like I'm not being met halfway but maybe my expectations have changed. Now that I'm a parent I know there's so much more to do with your time...
Life is just a new gift everyday and I hope to continue sharing and inspiring everyone's daily lives through our blog.
LOVE: As mentioned, Phil has gotten a second job like a true champ to keep us on top. We really need to get our own place within a year or two. We're both clearing off debts so that's why I am open to work at this time. We've tried going out at least once a month. Last Thursday we hit Yorkville and felt like our first crazy summer together. So much fun. We're the same people- just complete as one with Baby Belle.
PR: Yes, I'm open to work but I love being a mom!! I had my first opportunity to help a friend write a book treatment. It turned out sooo good and I can't wait to share his book when it comes through!
Baby: What haven't I bragged about? She's happy, chatting, sitting, jumping.
Foods: She's been on rice (gerber) and oatmeal (heinz). All other food has been home made. Yes I got a Baby Bullet! I'm totally following that book so thus far she has had sweet potatoes, zuchinni, brown rice cereal( made a la PhillyD), green peas and green beans.

I just watched my baby girl put herself to sleep in her crib for the first time. The mobile was going, the TV was buzzing for some added white noise and she was sucking her thumb. My little newborn who only slept in my arms is officially a big baby. We skipped her 6 p.m. nap tonight in a desperate attempt to gain more sleep. She's still up every two hours and eats a lot. She also pretty much completed her tablespoon of cereal today. We gave her a bit to try yesterday and I think she reacted how most babies would. Pierced lips, a confused look and a lot of mess. Today she was so anxious she kept grabbing the spoon right from my hand!
Life is so full right now. She's officially a full time job.
PR: Aside from my full time job which is baby- I keep accepting freelance lo/no paying jobs to work from home. Why? To keep me sane and up to par with my line of work. People know i'm good- I just had a baby immediately after graduation. I worked for an entertainment show for three years and I learned so much but in my line of work, the rules are changing as much as the hottest new social media sites. Pain in my butt! But I'm on all of them. And that's the reason why I blog. I haven't had much time lately and I felt bad. I like to blog for my own personal taste and memories. Now I blog for the people because I know there are some sweet hearts who wait patiently for a new post. I want people to know I'm open, real and recognize the importance of two-way communication.
(Phil just called and I read him my opening line and completely cried and went to look at my little girl).

Anyways!

That's where I'm at basically. Loving the stay-at-home mom life and hoping that I can make a living at what I'm doing now. Day by day :) Annabelle is 19 weeks today <3

Annabelle and I have been taking Toronto by storm! My little trooper has been meeting so many new people and her personality is shinning. She's got this sort of yell/scream going on when she's trying to talk. She really responds to me when I do the AEIOU in french. I got to breastfeed outside by a rock in High Park today and I felt so relaxed and proud. When we aren't walking in the parks or meeting new friends, we're at live tapings for her godfather Scott Jackson on Canada's Got Talent! He's in the FINALS for the competition and we're so excited!
My little baby turns four months old on Sunday and we already went for her four month old check up at the doctors. She was a champ. We had also booked an appointment for a paediatrician to check out her blocked tear duct but it has totally cleared up on its own! Amazing NEWS!
PR: I've actually been quite busy with people offering jobs, internships and freelance work. It's exciting because I need money, but it's overwhelming because I feel like I'm not done being mom. I know I can balance what i've agreed to so far. In my line of work I can work from home and as long as someone's around to play with Annabelle while I do some e-mails and phone calls it's all golden.
I keep missing the first two months of Annabelle's life. I literally sat in the lazy boy all day breastfeeding and watching TLC. I definitely want to breastfeed her for at least another month. I'm surrounded by so many people that the breastfeeding moments are sooo needed. A beautiful excuse for baby and I to lock everyone out, forget about the world and focus on eachother.
Love: We really have to stop talking about poop. Just because we focus on baby's poop doesn't mean you can make jokes about yours.

Baby: We had our mom walk today and there were a lot of women and babies. It's so funny when people walk by and wave at us. Such a sight to see. Annabelle woke up when we got there (of course). Luckily I always carry my handy dandy baby carrier! We stayed afterwards to have a bite with Lisa and her daughter Charlotte who is only a couple week younger than Annabelle. We're often told they look alike too. I can't wait to see them interact more. They were looking at eachother under the table as they stretched out on the diner benches. I caught Annabelle staring. So cute!

TGIF!
I'm just taking a break from working on the marketing package for the 2012 Canadian Beatbox Championships to make a quick post. Annabelle is sleeping on my lap and i'm typing away. We've been like this for about two hours now :)
I'm falling more in love with her everyday. It hurts so good.
Speaking of love, all three of us spent a beautiful day together.

We went to the Out There office to celebrate the 7th season! We got a sneak peek into our episode and let's say the water works came running down! I can't say much at this time which SUCKS but when it comes time to promote it i'll be all over that!

Out There with Melissa DiMarco airs Saturdays at 7:30PM on Citytv.

Annabelle was a beauty all day, she's so calm and happy. On our way home we grabbed a present for her uncle Eric's 19th birthday. A little overdue Monopoly game to add to the collection.

After fish and chips, we gave Annabelle a bath.

Baby: Two big milestones this week. She totally sits in her bath and loves it now. When she's not relaxing in her bath, Annabelle enjoys jolly jumping! It's soo sweet to see her get excited and hop. She's so strong. I feel so weak sometimes but she keeps my head up way high.

It's been a good Friday night. Although I wonder what my high heeled friends are doing I feel awesome doing what I do best- PR and MOM.

Phil and hit our three year mark on March 24. This dates the day we made sure we were exclusive and official just outside the ACC after the Leafs won 2-1 against Washington and as Scott Jackson buskers for money to head to Germany. Three years later we're still in love, we have a baby and we watch our baby's Godfather Scott Jackson perform on Canada's Got Talent (and make it to the semi-finals). Sorry, it's PR and the Working MOM blogspot- I have to get my PR in!
It's exciting to see where we've come to grow together in just three years.

I just finished my first freelance PR job as I helped to spread the word for the launch of Toronto's new Comic Book Lounge. It was a huge success and I have to thank my friends at Guerilla Printing for giving me the opportunity to branch out and make new connections. It's such a great scene! I now know I can balance my time well with the baby for small jobs like this one was- but I am still 100 per cent MOM right now.
Sadly I don't have a photo of Annabelle this day, which was day 99, but here I am having my one beer allowed!

A New Mom Walk Day

We went for a walk to the skate park and along the Humber river yesterday. Phil got to bring his baby to the skate park for the first time. He was so excited! It's so exciting reliving certain places and moments with your baby.

Today we went for our first "new mom" walk in High Park. Just me and Annabelle of course! Sorry Phil! Annabelle is taking much better to the stroller but I still always have a carrier on me. And I totally began walking with the wrong new moms. It was so funny! Thank goodness Annabelle slept the entire time so when I found my right group we were still good to go! It was a great walk and made me realize that we're all in the same position no matter our age or career. Today's talk was the fact that no one was sure how much to dress our babies to protect them from the sun, yet not to overheat or get too cold. We all have different ways and advice to share. I'm really sunburnt tonight but I can't wait to get out again! Annabelle went to bed at 9:30 p.m. tonight, she usually crashes at 8 p.m. so the fresh air did us all some good.

PR: I accepted a small freelance job to gather media for Toronto's Comic Book Lounge & Gallery Launch thanks to my friends at Guerilla Printing. I only need an hour here and there for e-mails and calls so it's been pretty easy balancing this one with the baby.

Happy 3 months Annaboo!

Annabelle turned three months old and we found ourselves in our first "New Mom" group. Yay. Poor Phil wanted to come but this was a traditional women only affair. I got to bring my sister Val and I promised him we'll look into more family groups.

Sigh.

I was about to go sleep with baby (it's 9:02p.m.) but my fortune cookie read "You have both a lot of ideas and the energy to put them into action." So here I go! Blogging away.

I feel so good knowing that I have so much support and people are excitedly awaiting my next blog post!

This one is to celebrate my first new mom venture. I tell ya between the family visits up north and my sister's March Break stay here in Toronto I have ventured more than I ever could have imagined doing alone.

I just decided that I'm not going to blog my day-by-day stay in Sudbury. I mean, if I didn't have time to blog once in 10 days I am not going to start now. Besides, I picture says a million words and I took a million pictures.

If I can make this blog post more informational let me say that you should not ever think you're educated and independent enough to raise a baby on your own. I say this for all my independent ladies that are reading! Don't argue. Please read. I am considered to be independent but the moment my family walked into the delivery room I knew I needed them. My plan was only to have Phil in the room and now we know if we didn't have the midwives we both would have been a mess! The days following birth require extra help too because no mother walks away feeling fine. When they say it takes six weeks to recover- it really takes six weeks to recover.
People tell you not to take advice but their advice is to take their advice because they don't think they're giving you advice because they just said don't take advice before they began giving you their advice.
Surprisingly I (independent, impatient) took everyone's advice with open arms and I moved forward with my parenting as a confident family-orientated lady.
All this talk about surrounding yourself with family and friends is to support the fact that going up north and changing the environment really helped Annabelle and I grow. We saw more people, learned new tricks and she grew some hair on her head. Aw, she still has hair ears.
We really missed Phil! But he stayed busy with the videos and I assured him that Annabelle was needed. She brought smiles to my mother who lives everyday loving her more and just lost her brother. She brought smiles to my dad who's had quite a year and his nickname was "Grumpy Moe". He turned out to be a happy Grampy Moe with baby. She brought a smile to my mom's god mother. She brought a smile to my Grandmaman Gogo- her great grandma! Annabelle is Grandmaman's fifth great grandchild and watching those two bond meant the world to me. Granny is the only one who put her to sleep without rocking her in arms! It was truly an emotional experience that I'm going to keep in my heart and grow with it. It was fun to live with my sisters again and have nothing but girls in the house. Annabelle brought smiles to everyone and as her mother I watch how she has changed my life and the lives of many other people.

When we returned home on Sunday Phil's face was illuminated. He looked twelve again. And she did it. Annabelle giggled first for her daddy like we wanted. He ran to get me and when I came up she giggled a little bit more. I screamed and cried and she hasn't giggled since! Haha. But I know she's going to let lose again because her smiles are bigger than ever!

Now we find ourselves ending Valerie's march break stay after a whirlwind of visits and new experiences. I'm happy I signed up for the New Mom Group. It makes me realize and open up to myself about some issues and thoughts that have been bothering me. It's your typical New Mom group. Smiling women, all beautiful, gorgeous babies and there's the go-getters that organize the extra activities outside the New Mom group. So now this PR MOM will compliment Thursday's New Mom group with a walking group on Mondays.
I feel good!

Finally a new blog! The many faces and angles of Annabelle... It's so neat to see how she looks more like Phil one way and me the other. We've been in Sudbury for ten days now and we've not slowed down! What have I learned? A lot. Annabelle has grown so much and we're anxious to return to Phil's arms. I can't wait to have some down time and blog about the amazing memories with our family up north.

Tips for a healthy baby: Fever, nose, ears and cough

Here are a few tips we learned overnight and on the Mom Show as we dealt with a very congested baby.

1 a.m.- The nasal aspirators are no good as taught in our prenatal courses. We gave it a shot because we were worried but it really was awkward to use. That's when we turned to other resources for a more aggressive approach.

- All the books say that the baby's body will clear out on its own and that's why they sneeze so much. Our baby had been getting so congested overnight it wakes her up.

2- 4 a.m. or something like that- Phil read online to sleep her in an upright position. We moved her carseat on our bed leaning against the bassinet so it was secure and she slept longer and woke up more clear.

6 a.m. I ran a really hot shower and we danced in the washroom as it heated up and cleared out her mucus.

7 a.m.- Watched The Mom Show and learnt some more facts:
- One of the woman's baby was four months and keeps coughing at night and getting diagnosed with bronchitis. The doctor on the show said if your baby keeps coughing at night he most likely has asthma and needs a puffer. I really don't want my baby to have asthma and infections like I did and I'm doing my damnedest to eliminate dust, cat hair, smoke.

- We run a cool mist humidifier and this is another way to help you and your baby sleep in more comfortable air especially in the winter months.

- Anything that ends with "itis" means there's an inflammation of sorts.

- Fever- it's a sign that there's an infection. To treat a fever you have to know what the main problem is and a fever should go down with the right high dosage of acetaminophen. You know how we like to "sweat it out"? Well we're encouraged not to "overheat" or "cool down" our kids- just keep them comfortable.

- Ears- Don't put anything smaller than an elbow in your ears! Ear wax? It's supposed to clear out on its own although no one can stand visible ear wax.

8 a.m.- Baby plays with dad and the big boogers finally clear out. As she exhales I have fun trying to grab it as it creeps out and heads back in with the inhale.

11 a.m.- Still a little congested but we know that all these tips will lead to a healthy baby. Our friend suggested using a dropper with breastmilk up her nose. We don't have a dropper so I just expressed my boob up her nose. It was quite funny!!

I love helping her burp, sneeze, cough and poop. Now we're dealing with gross nose nuggets. People tell you not to talk about poop as a couple in order to keep the spark sparkling but we love to talk about poop. Right babe? It makes her feel so good and keeps her smiling!
It's such a big accomplishment for the baby.

Baby: We just got back from another successful stroller trip! Yay! Annabelle is getting much more calm in the stroller. She used to freak out when she would wake up and no one was holding her. She also slept the whole time because we had a sleepless night. I saw every hour but 3 a.m. so this PRMOM is super drowsy right now.
PR: Yesterday I was consulted to look at a new website for Melissa DiMarco. Phil was also away all day filming the press junket and carpet for Goon, a movie I'm excited to see! Anyways long story short it was quite difficult reviewing the website because Annabelle didn't nap too long. She'll nap all day in my arms but the minute she's down she's up ten minutes later. So my first PR consulting post baby was a short task but it's nothing to fret about. We're still only two months new :)
Life: Annabelle and I are getting ready for our big trip to Sudbury to introduce her to new friends and family and spend some time with the girls! I've already got my entire luggage case dedicated to her clothes. There's so much to consider! I definitely have to remember to pack her mobile- she loves to watch Winnie-The-Pooh twirl around.
I signed up for a new mom and baby class at St-Joseph's Hospital today! But we'll miss the first two classes because of our trip. Phil wants to attend these classes because who doesn't want to witness their baby interacting with other kids? So my next task is to find out if dads are invited to the mom groups and I also want to see if there are courses for both parents and babies.
