What role do they play with sales and marketing? What effect is Salesforce.com having in the marketplace, and why is it transforming so many businesses?

Join us on Wednesday, November 11th, as we explore cloud computing and its effect on the current practice of CRM. We'll explain how on-demand CRM - and better distribution of customer information - is changing the practice of sales and marketing as we know it. Finally, we'll probe Sales 2.0, show how on-demand CRM supports the integration of sales and marketing, and then pull it all together with a case study demonstrating the impact of Salesforce.com.

Speakers:

Dan Strunk, Managing Director, Center for Sales Leadership, DePaul University

Kevin Turner, Principal, Model Metrics (one of the nation's leading Salesforce.com partners).

Click here for more information and to register

Day: Wednesday, November 11th

Time: 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM

Location: Petterino's Restaurant (entrance at 50 West Randolph)

Cost: $44/CADM members, $59/non-members.

Google Accounts Hacked

The BBC is reporting that phishers have been able to harvest thousands of Gmail, Yahoo and AOL e-mail passwords.

Now would be an ideal time to change your password. If you are changing your password, you could do worse that follow the advice of Bruce Schneier. This seems like a perfect time to list some of the core social media applications that you can run directly from the Blackberry (rather than accessing through a web browser). For Internet marketers using the Blackberry here are the tools I would recommend downloading:

Facebook Client
One of the best ways to access your account. The application focusing on the core areas of FB without any of the distractions.

MySpace Client
Similar to the Facebook application in functionality (homepage, inbox, friend requests, comments, friends and photos). Clean and snappy interface.

TwitterBerry
Tweet with relative abandon from your Blackberry

Viigo
The best RSS reader for the Blackberry.

ShoZu
Upload photos and videos to social media sites.

SEO Book Chapter - Now on Amazon

I was lucky enough to contribute a chapter to the IMC (Integrated Marketing Communications) Handbook on Search Engine Optimization. This allows us to predict behavior - the holy grail of every marketer.

On September 19th CADM is offering a special breakfast meeting featuring Matt Wise, CEO of Q Interactive, a 10-year-old, industry-pioneering company in targeted online marketing. Search engines are looking for relevant pages. Duplicate content reduces your relevancy. There are two ways you can fix this:

Use the robots.txt exclusion file to tell the search engine spiders crawling your site not to index particular pages or folders

Add appropriate metatags to your pages which will then tell search engine spiders to exclude those particular pages from their results

Creating the robots.txt file is generally more efficient than crafting individual metatatags. Information on how to properly create your robots.txt file can be found here. Remember to create only one file for your website.

You may chose to use the metatags if you do not have the ability to upload files to the root of your webserver (for example pages on a shared site like Yahoo! Geocities). The code you should use is:

This code should be pasted into the content of your HTML.

Featured in the Sun-Times

Sandra Guy wrote a nice feature in the Chicago Sun-Times that covers some of the podcasting and vodcasting work we have been doing to enhance our College of Commerce MBA courses at DePaul University.
