A Cinnamon Roll Story

2014-01-26T11:13:00.001-08:00

Cinnamon Roll Dough

1 cup warm milk

2 eggs, room temperature

1/3 cup butter, melted

4 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup white sugar

1 package yeast (1/4 ounce)

Cinnamon Roll Filling

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Spread for Cinnamon Roll Dough

1/4 cup butter, softened

Cinnamon Roll Icing

200 gr cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) butter, softened

1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions;

Microwave the milk for 45 to 60 seconds. Then, dissolve yeast in warm milk in a large bowl. Add sugar, butter, salt, eggs, and flour. Mix well.

Put the ball of dough into a bowl that is sprayed with cooking spray.

Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for roughly 1 hour or until dough has doubled in size.

In a new, small bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon,

Roll out your dough ball into rectangle then spread a 1/4 cup of softened butter on the dough.

Divide the dough into two pieces. Next, sprinkle the rolled, buttered dough evenly with the sugar/cinnamon/butter mixture you prepared in your small bowl.

Roll up the dough starting with the longer side and cut into fourteen (14) cinnamon rolls (or more smaller rolls, if you prefer).

Place the cinnamon rolls in a lightly greased glass baking dish, and let the cinnamon rolls rise until nearly doubled, which should take around 30 minutes

Preheat oven to 350 degree Fahrenheit. Once your cinnamon rolls have risen, bake them in the preheated oven until golden brown, approximately 18 to 20 minutes.

As your cinnamon rolls are baking, beat together cream cheese, butter, confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract, and salt for the Cinnabon cinnamon roll icing.

The icing should be spread on your cinnamon rolls when they are still warm, shortly after being taken out of the oven so that the frosting melts into the cinnamon rolls.

When the cinnamon rolls are still warm, serve, and enjoy!

Japanese Garden – Clingendael Estate – The Hague

Todays images are of the Japanese Garden in the Clingendael Estate The Hague. The Japanese Garden is located in the Clingendael country estate a tranquil park and garden just ten minutes from the centre of The Hague. The Japanese Garden was created by the former owner of the Clingendael country estate Marguerite M. Baronesse van Brienen, also known as Lady Daisy at the start of the twentieth century.
The Municipality of The Hague has always taken great care of the Japanese Garden because of its uniqueness and tremendous historical value. The garden was placed on the list of national historical monuments in 2001. Due to its fragility, the garden can be visited only during a short period of the year, six weeks in late spring and two weeks in the autumn.

Lego Cake Tutorial

2012-10-23T09:15:00.001-07:00

Last Sunday I decided to make Lego cake for our dear friend Arjan.

Start by making a tray bake sized cake.

Gently smooth the edges with cream

Simply roll out your fondant thinly on the cake.

Cover it with different colors of fondant blocks.

Cut out LOTS of little dots with the tip of a large piping tip.

Glue down in rows around the cake with a tiny dab of water.

Actually it was more time consuming than I expected.

It was my first Lego cake, that's why it is just a big brick, but next time I´m gonna make Lego firetruck cake(!).

The House of Fabergé

2012-10-18T03:22:00.001-07:00

The House of Fabergé is a jewelry firm founded in 1842 in Imperial Russia and famed for designing elaborate jewel-encrusted Fabergé eggs for the Russian Tsars.

Faberge Easter eggs that the Romanov family gave each other; They celebrated the holiday with eggs made of pure gold and platinum and set with precious jewels.

Russian jeweler Peter Carl Fabergé created the first Imperial egg in 1885, which Czar Alexander III commissioned as a gift for his wife: a white enameled egg with a yellow gold “yolk” inside. The yolk itself hinged open and contained a multicolored hen, also made of gold — which could, of course, also be opened, revealing a near-microscopic diamond crown. Needless to say, it was a hit, spawning decades of Imperial eggs painstakingly crafted by the country’s finest jewelers.

The nine eggs on show are among the most prized jewelled items in the world. Composed of precious metals, jewels and enamel they were commissioned by the Romanov family to celebrate religious events such as Russian Orthodox Easters between 1885 and 1916, prior to the Russian revolution

An exhibition containing nine of the Tsars’ Fabergé eggs is on display at the Vatican Museums. Titled Fabergé: the Sacred Images, the 140 exhibits on show include intricate jewellery made by the famed House of Fabergé in St Petersburg as well as items relating to the Russian imperial family.
