Thank you to Anna Hazaare supporters for supporting separate statehood of Telangaana

Dear Anna Hazaare Supporters,
We cannot express our deep satisfaction in words, for your sincere support to the separate statehood of Telangaana.

What you have proved to the Government of India is that, there are still some people left in this country to support truly just causes. You've stood behind a gandhian who was willing to go on a fast-unto-death to fight corruption and believes that Jan Lokpal Bill is the only way to go forward. You've accepted his cause as yours and have showered support in various forms. You've strongly, and rightly so, established that anyone who is not supporting Anna is actually supporting corruption. You've shown that there are only two ways, the Support-Jan-Lokpal way or the Support-Corruption way, in front of anybody now including the Government of India. You've proved to the rest of the country that with persistent and tenacious agitations, even democratically elected governments can be brought down to their knees.

This gives a tremendous amount of hope to people of Telangaana. By the grace of the patriotic spirit that drives Anna Hazaare, another gandhian Kondaa Lakshman Baapuji (who even has Baapuji in his name) has declared to go on a fast-unto-death for the cause of Telangana [1]. Kondaa Lakshman Baapuji was a freedom fighter and has served public office [2]. He has also worked for the development of tribals and other backward communities [3]. His credentials towards working for the development of tribal and other backward communities are impeccable and are second to none (well, may be Anna Hazaare).

For the sake of formality, kindly allow us to explicitly specify the analogy here. The cause of Telangaana, now has a gandhian who is willing to go on a fast-unto-death to fight the injustice done to Telangaana and who believes that Separate Telangana Bill is the only way to go forward. Given these circumstances (gandhian - check, fast-unto-death - check), we think it is reasonable to assume that you will accept the cause of Kondaa Lakshman Baapuji as yours and will shower support in various forms. With your inspiration, we hereby bravely declare that anyone who is not supporting Baapuji is actually supporting injustice done to Telangana. With your kind and tacit permission, we show that there are only two ways, the Support-Telangaana way or the Support-Injustice way, in front of anybody including the government of India. Your sacrifices constantly remind us that it is indeed possible to achieve the separate statehood of Telangaana by bringing the democratically elected government of andhrapradesh and government of India to their knees, with continuous and hard-hitting agitations.

Once again, we offer our gratitude for your sincere support to the separate statehood of Telangaana.

Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
People of Telangana

[1] http://www.deccanchronicle.com/channels/cities/regions/karimnagar/1969-stir-v...
[2] http://www.hindu.com/2006/10/03/stories/2006100314000200.htm
[3] http://padmashaliindia.com/Hostel.asp

What seems to be the way ahead for Indian Intellectuals?

Before we try to explore the answer to the above question, lets discuss a simpler question. Who are the Indian Intellectuals? Luckily, this one is easy. Indian Intellectuals are all those patriots of this country who are writers, lawyers, doctors, engineers, thinkers, philosophers, scientists, economists, novelists & etc.

Without loss of any generality, Intellectuals are people from all the creative professions (only those ones that are written about, with great reverence in an Ayn Rand novel). Today, one thing (and only one thing) bugs these intellectuals. And that is the development of this country. They are totally vexed by scams and scandals which, one after the other, are shaking the very foundations of this country. They hate poverty with such intensity that exceeds the hatred of Hitler towards Jews, Indian cricket fans towards Shoaib Akhtar and Lasith Malinga combined.

Just as bollywood moviegoers understand that it is meaningless to watch Tees Maar Khan without seeing Sheila Ki Jawaani, Intellectuals understand that without living by ideals, it is useless to live. Just as songs like Shiela Ki Jawaani are not only important but vital to Tees Maar Khan, Ideals viz. freedom of expression are not only important but are vital to an Intellectual. Intellectuals live by ideals and without any doubt, would be willing to even die by them. Needless to add, given that I dropped out of my PhD and am now working as a software engineer, I am NOT an intellectual. I would be a watchman at the gate of the Atlantis, inside which these intellectuals metaphysically reside. But I digress.

Intellectuals, by definition, accept the fact that development is directly proportional to wealth which can only result from production. Production of food grains, production of goods, production of ideas and creative thoughts. Shrewd ones among you, who have read so far, would quickly realize that this is similar to bollywood producers accepting that success of a movie is directly related to the production of item songs in a movie.

Unfortunately, the remaining population of India doesn't quite get this (just as an average moviegoer doesn't quite get why he has to shell out the amount for the entire movie when all he wants to watch is the item song). And it is these people who are unknowingly against the Intellectuals.

Right or wrong (obviously wrong as an Intellectual would say), the composers of the Indian Constitution have provided the right to vote for all the citizens of this country. Intellectuals and the remaining population, both have a say in the process of electing representatives to run the country. It is a no-brainer, even for the remaining population, that Intellectuals are very small in number and hence are losing out everytime to the remaining population. This leaves the following two options for the Intellectuals:

Option one Get constitution amended to limit the right to vote to Intellectuals only. This seems to be the more difficult option of both, given that such outright visible restriction might evoke seriously stupid reactions from the remaining population.

Option two Get the constitution amended to implement weighted voting. Essentially, instead of making it a step function (like the Option one, where weight of an Intellectual vote is 1 and that of the remaining population is 0), make it a more smoother function where the weight of an Intellectual vote remains at 1 and that of the remaining population would be distributed as follows:

Level of Intellectuality

Weight

True Intellectual

1

Having these details drafted in constitution would not have any visible impact on the remaining population for they are neither aware of constitution nor capable of understanding such complicated intellectual stuff.

Hence, it is my recommendation that the Intellectuals get the constitution amended (preferably with the recommendations laid out in Option two), so that they can elect those representatives who can implement the agenda of the Intellectuals and take this country along the path of development and prosperity.

Wait. I am now confused. How can the Intellectuals amend the constitution in the first place? May be by getting themselves elected to the parliament. But, if they did get elected to the parliament, why would they need an amendment when they can implement their agenda right away. Damn! I should have been an intellectual to understand this.

Before I begin this post, let me acknowledge something. I seem to have stirred up the hornet's nest with my previous post. So as to not alienate a key demographic, let me clarify my position. I was not advocating anything in the that post as to what one's personal choices should/could be. It doesn't matter if those are/aren't my personal beliefs. I was trying to point out that in a secular republic, the society needs to adopt a constitutionally agreeable perspective. Let me switch gears from this mood of my being an insensitive, morally corrupt, and (yet) a legal NTI (Non Traditional Indian).

On the evening of Mar 19 2010, I attended the Suvarna Bengaluru Pranaalike (I would translate it as Plans for Golden Bangalore.) meeting at Puttanachetty Town Hall. The BBMP elections were then a week away, and were successfully conducted on Mar 28 2010 by the way (Whew! A Rare Rhythm! Must be all those poetry blogs that I read). The meeting invited three major parties Congress, BJP and JD(S) to discuss their ideas on city's pressing issues (no pun intended). You can read the coverage of that event here and here.

In the first portion of the meeting, the three parties talked about what wasn't in their manifestos. (Obviously) They didn't about talk what was in their manifestos, because that would have been redundant. Luckily, for the residents of the city who attended the meeting, issues that were beyond the scope of the meeting also were detailed. Talk about getting your time's worth! I thought it was hugely inconsiderate on the part of the respected moderator to rudely cut-off Narayan Swamy, when the former MP went over his allotted ten minutes time (he only deviated by five minutes, duh!). I mean, come on. Truth isn't like a tweet. It can't be delivered in 140 characters or less. More often than not, a point has to be inevitably driven just like a nail by a hammer.

The second and final portion was discussion on issues. The party representatives discussed the questions (which were passed from the audience and consolidated by the respected moderator). The admirable event organizers ensured that difficult questions were posed even though the party representatives could have potentially felt uncomfortable. Some unsatisfiables (not me) might have thought that the following questions weren't answered (obvious that no one can answer questions that aren't posed, ha!):

How would you describe the collective victory of all the parties over what are probably fascist forces in getting bbmp elections to be conducted now, upholding the supreme court decision (irrespective of the court's actual directive to conduct the elections by the end of 2008)?

What kind of trivial issues your municipal administration might have faced, when dealing with the state administration formed by a party other than yours? How were they successfully avoided?

How did the feedback mechanisms you instituted, helped you improve the municipal interfaces to a competitive state-of-the-art world-class level of city governance?

How many times has your party offered constructive suggestions to improve the workings of the corporation offices, to a city administration made up of a different party? How much of them in spm (suggestions per million) were lost due to background noise? What kind of issues did you NOT have to face because of the (touch wood) coherence of all the parties?

How would you describe your feelings w.r.t the decades long war on corruption being finally won by the elected representatives of the people, for the people?

How would you ask the people of the city to rejoice the future municipal works (extrapolating from those that were done on a war front in the five weeks before the bbmp elections) for the coming five years?

But aren't these precisely the questions that were (probably) addressed in all the party manifestos (which for obvious reasons, weren't even tangentially discussed)? Asking for more is just greedy. And in a not-yet-capitalist India, greed isn't good. Yet.

Just as the meeting was about be concluded in a dignified manner, an old gentleman, who was sitting two seats away from me, got up and caused a scene. He addressed the party representatives directly without going through the respected moderator! Some nerve! Sure, he might (claim to) be a retired government employee, who spent his years in the service of the government, but shouldn't the meeting rules apply to all equally? He might have gone door-to-door (or so he says) collecting data on the kind of problems the residents of his locality faced, but isn't his duty to come up with working prototype solutions (with all the free retired time) instead of complaining about the problems faced? He also asserted to have sent registered mail to all the parties (that attended the meeting) and has not yet received any replies. Holding the parties & representatives responsible, was clearly irresponsible.

In this age of electronic communication, post (regular or registered) might get lost. Diplomatically, that ought be taken up with "Department of Posts" which happens to be under Central Government and hence, beyond the scope of the meeting. All parties that attended the meeting, provably envisioning and building India for the next generation, can be righteously exonerated. Further, according to RTI Act (PDF), such requests must be sent to concerned administrative divisions, instead of the parties. The truth might be out there, but one has to responsibly look in the 'Right' places. All in all, I thought the old man was clearly out of touch.

In spite of all this, I think the biggest success of the meeting was getting all the party representatives, and hence the parties, to agree and acknowledge the challenges. Promises were tactfully extracted and the responsible representatives of genuine people-pleasing parties made solemn pledges. They agreed that corruption and transparency in government were important and gave their word (which they probably gave during previous elections too) to take care of them. The other important lesson that was taught repeatedly by all parties, was the role of people. I presume, that it is now empirically established that if people don't oversee the city administration, corruption being re-incarnated and transparency in government waning into translucence and opaqueness is only natural and logical.

Democrazy (pardon my spell-checker), has patiently prevailed and finally won. Thank our stars! It is in the very nature of the stars that they are very far off and offer no appreciable warmth or necessary light for our sustenance. But that isn't the fault of the stars. It is ours.

About two years back, I wrote a slightly modified version of the following on MY office white board before I left home for the day:
If you were on a sinking ship and yelled, "Women and children first!" how much feminist opposition do you think you'd get? ... Women want to fight men for equal pay, but how often do they fight a man for the check? ... And any man who questions a woman's physical capabilities gets branded a sexist -- but who do they call when there's a spider to be killed? Convenient feminism -- crackpot theory or dangerous lunacy?
~ Bill Maher, ABC TV (1993). Politically Incorrect
(My apologies for being unable to provide you with a better source. But this will have to do for now.)

Having then recently gotten a new white board and four markers (red, blue, green and black), my enthusiasm got the better of me to fill the board. More over I thought that there was a certain amount of legitimate fun in that joke and scribbled it across.

The next morning when I came back, I was completely surprised by a response written underneath. The surprise was two-fold. The board was read by someone else other than me and I was also getting comments! (Kind of like how I feel when people read this blog and comment too! This shouldn't be construed as a pitiable plea for more readership, even though it is exactly that.)

I will not post that response here (partly because I don't quite remember it verbatim and partly because this post doesn't have too much to with the exact response itself). I took the comment in good fun and declared to stand by what I wrote, even if it portrayed me as an anti-feminist and being against women's rights. But deep inside, I viewed myself on a higher moral ground because I thought in reality I greatly respected women and their fight for equal rights.

Those illusions melted away during the screening of Ishqiya. (The movie is pretty engaging. Given the vastness of my hindi knowledge, it was a piece of cake for me to follow the Uttarpradesh dialect.)

While walking out from the movie, I realized that I had formed a negative impression of the character Krishna, played (quite well) by Vidya Balan. Ignoring the deftness of the story tellers which made me form such an impression, I questioned myself on the reason for such an unfriendly attitude. In the movie, the character Krishna (a hindu widow, who recently lost her husband) flirts with both the primary characters Khalujaan (played by Naseeruddin Shah) and Babban (played by Arshad Warsi). Towards the end, she is shown to have intercourse with Babban. I think, my disdain for Krishna's character sprouted due to this kind of behavior. Ironically, that was the first and lasting impression my women-respecting mind chose to form, while watching the movie.

What is wrong with that Krishna did? It (the intercourse) does not amount to adultery, for her husband is dead (and Babban is unmarried). Why is flirting with two men at once wrong? As fellow citizens (which is the only legally valid relationship), others can only objectify if such behavior is within the confines of the law of the land, and can not ascertain whether its right or wrong. For in a democratic republic, just as there is no correct or incorrect vote, there is no right or wrong doing. Only legal or illegal deed. In fact, Krisha deserves those equal rights (for women), for she didn't do anything illegal. (May be its time I stopped making those unnecessary feminist references in my posts. Observant ones amongst you might have already noticed that I stopped making such references since the last post.)

On a not so related note, Yesterday, the supreme court of india commented this. Soon the debates on television began. Lets, only for the sake of convenience, label the ones angry at / opposing what the court said as conservatives.

An important conservative objection is that these comments are against 'Indian values'. In spite of the risk of sparking off harsh repercussions, I deconstructed the term 'Indian values' by replacing it with 'Hindu tradition' (I sincerely apologize for not being even remotely versed with the traditions of Islam, Christianity and other religions. For the purposes of this discussion, there is no loss of generality even if it was another religion).

In a constitutional republic like India, individual freedom takes away all the honors (the cake, icing and even the plate). Citizens are free to practice a religion of their choice (or not adopt any faith at all), marry a partner of their choice (or not marry at all), as long as they abide by the law. In such a state, imposing conservative restrictions in the name of protecting traditions and preserving values is against that fundamental principle of freedom. Certainly the supreme court doesn't support such a relationship between two minors or between a minor and an adult. However between two mutually consenting adults, as long as they tread with in the confines of the law, live-in relationships or pre-marital intercourse isn't a punishable offense.

But let me also point out another thing to conservatives. The tradition of a time changes according to what the individuals encompassing a group, think is acceptable and allowed. Once upon a time in India, Sati Sahagamana was a revered tradition. Is it still followed? There used to be a matrimonial practice when swords of two families were married in a ritual and threw two complete strangers into wedlock (apologies for not being able to provide a reference. please treat this sentence as an outright lie). How many of these are we seeing now?

Traditions change. As an old generation gives way and a new generation comes along, the mindset of the individuals representing the society changes, causing a change in what is agreeable a.k.a tradition. Beyond the law, whatever additional rules one lives by (religion or not, vegetarian or not), are one's own personal choice. Even if those guidelines are practiced by a majority of the population, it is against the spirit of a secular constitution to accept them as binding for the entire nation.

UPDATE: I forgot to add that I have no recollection of any dislike for either of the two male characters (Khalujaan & Babban). May be I thought men are always like that or I didn't. But so much for my women-respecting mind.

Before I go on ranting about the imaginary traditions here at the blog, I will summarize the kind of imaginary comments I would have liked to receive by now, but didn't: While the next to last post evoked reactions where after reading some wanted to commit suicide, the last post caused people to burst with anger to the extent of threatening homicide.

New rules (if you get a chance and can stand offensive language, catch the New Rules segment of Real Time with Bill Maher). We will henceforth NOT discuss title woes. Its an established fact (which has been established in the last two posts) that serious bloggers like me have trouble coming up with catchy yet appropriate titles for their posts. And to eliminate the need for having such discussions, I will henceforth choose completely insane and pointless general titles (like that of this post) to the extent possible. What's in a Title anyway? I have to point out that books are judged based on their covers and movies on their trailers. And, real tangible products are judged based on their jazzy intangible ads.

Everyone who knows me, knows quite well that I don't quite at all like Shekar Kammula's movies. One might outrageously speculate that, the hatred is only because I am jealous of the attention he gets, but as I already mentioned, that's outrageous. Its not only because of jealousy, but also because of my alleged male chauvinistic piggy nature that, I can't stand the strong female characters in his movies. (If you can stand really offensive language, read the quote involving kitchen and pie here, which comes pretty close to my own male chauvinist piggy opinions.)

I will discuss more about my chauvinistic nature in one of my later posts, but let me quickly get to Kammula's latest movie లీడర్ (Leader). As fate has it, I have voluntarily seen this movie twice! The first time I went along because there were some extra tickets with no takers and the second time I went all alone to a weekday second show.

If I were to guess, the second half turned out the way it did because (probably) Shekar challenged himself to make a political movie without any bloodshed or fights. The oldest such trick would be to play the dice game. But it wouldn't get well with audiences if the protagonist takes this path (which was taken by the villains then).

The next recent historic move is to marry into one's rival's family (an example of such can be found in this movie). This second method opens up many avenues for the writer/director. And particularly for a director like Kammula, the soft romance can now find place in the script. Completely needless to add here, I didn't quite like the second half that much.

But one of the reasons I voluntarily watched the movie twice, is the following dialogue by an MLA character, played by

Crude english translation follows: Consider a person who is about to eat chicken biryani that he bought after a hard day"s work. If someone takes away the chicken piece from biryani, because he is tired due to the day's hard work, he lets it go and eats the rice with dal. If someone takes away the dal, he eats the rice with rasam. But if the rice itself is taken away, then he hungrily gets up and looks here and there for food. Just then if we announce a 'Rice Free' scheme, he forgets the hard day's work, the chicken and happily sits down for rice!

Here is where Shekar summarizes our entire political system spot on. The plan is extremely cunning. Take away everything except whatever is half-of-bare-minimum. Come every election, promise delta increments to the current status quo, pointing out that the goal is to reach the bare-minimum. Presto! Back in power.

A while ago, I was accused of standing in the sidelines and hence not having the right to criticize the government because I, per se, wasn't doing anything to solve the problem. I debated myself on that accusation for about two years now. I whole-heartedly agree that I could and may be should do more (whatever that more is). But I would be doing that more, just and only because I can and choose to. There are no legal imperatives in me doing that more.

Sadly, this country runs on laws and NOT on moralities. Infact as a constitutional secular republic, this country should run on laws and should NOT run on moralities. Individuals can follow moralities of their choice up and above the law, as long they are within the confines on the law. Granted, there are grey areas. Luckily, the definition of legal and illegal aren't always unclear.

No matter whether I do that more or not, I will always have the right to criticize the government in power so long as I conduct myself within the confines of the law of this land. As a citizen it deeply pains me to see so many NGOs thriving in this country (one should get angry and get me wrong at this point). Non Governmental Organizations doing the work of Government? Talented individuals sacrificing their careers because the Government failed to do its job?

As a republic, since independence (also since when we can no longer blame someone else for our state of affairs) consider the number of terms elected governments were in power. Consider the number of yearly budgets passed. Consider the number of five year plans proposed. Shouldn't we have gone much farther than where we are now? Isn't the blame and shame the most with who are governing and the least with who could have overseen?

As it has been a long standing tradition (since the last post) here at the blog, let us first discuss the title fight. Originally, I wanted to title this post as Alien Feeling. While I was on that thought, I watched this, which was about Broken Heart Syndrome. I felt this would be a better pick instead. Given the romantic undertones it seems to suggest, warrants of unnecessary speculation about a totally fictitious torrid love affair I had all day on the second Sunday of February 2010. The jealous allegation that this deliberate move would in turn unsuccessfully drive up the popularity of an already popular blog is totally baseless. (Oh Yeah! I keep track of my visitors. I just have one thing to say to my visitors, apart from You're Welcome. What the hell were you thinking?).

Anyway, lets move on to another longer standing tradition (since the next to last post) of what this post was supposed to be about. I have played around with many ideas. One of them (and to follow them up with more) was to write about my imaginary roommate Bhaanu Prakaash. Another one was discussing some of my regrets while watching Ishqiya. Originally, though, I wanted this post to be cute and sweet (at the size of a tweet) in tune with the general mood of the above mentioned day. The chances of this post ending with that are similar to that of whether or not, honorable शिव सेना would self-righteously oppose at least those IPL matches played in मुंबई (नवी or otherwise).

It is said that we are what we eat. In my opinion, we are more what we read and watch. The blogs I read, the news I watch are gradually, but constantly, changing me. On the upside, I am able to relatively read faster, learn new concepts, absorb more of what's being conveyed and better weigh pros and cons of various sides of issues. But there has been a downside. The exercise of learning isn't getting translated into excitement.

When I watch a funny scene, I commend the creativity of the writer rather than heartily laugh at the comedy itself. I applaud the dexterity of the lyricist instead of happily enjoying the poetry, while I listen to a song. Even giving alms to a beggar, which unknowingly made me feel good when I was young, has turned into a process of inhuman numeric calculations (involving inflation, disability and what not). I hope I am not sounding naive (in that I am not pointing to the loss of my childhood innocence, which independently disappeared since I crossed teens and moved into tweens). Whole-hearted experience has somehow faded into oblivion. The H-words, viz. humanity, happiness and hope have lost their meaning.

Fortunately, I am still being granted some refreshing moments while meeting friends, calling home and visiting temples, where I thankfully don't feel like my inert self. Though I am unable to pinpoint as to what its whereabouts are, something inside me is stubbornly not willing to simply die. I wonder what it is!

PS:
Since I don't twitter, here is that message that I planned to post on that day: Until now, when I looked at a beautiful girl, I sometimes wondered if she would be the right one for me. You were the first girl that made me wonder if I would be the right one for you.
In the name of continuing tradition, here is the Disclaimer: Feminists or not, the hint 'Blank spaces are not so blank when you select them' shouldn't be misconstrued as being condescending.

I started the post without thinking of a title. Everyone knows that its unusual that I take such a path. I began to empathize with creative directors and great authors taking pains to come up with appropriate and catchy titles for their works.
(Fans of the blog would argue that the pieces here certainly deserve no less and rightfully expect that I take similar pains in coming up with a title.)

Nevertheless, one needs to be conscious of inevitable situations that just happen once in a while. Sometimes a creative director or a great author (or I, for that matter), are in a complete conundrum as to what name their work be given. Even after sweating for many hours (possibly due to a power cut), they don`t even have a clue on where to start looking. I was in the state of an absolute nothingness where I couldn`t even come up with an alphabet the title might begin with. I rejected approaches like:

This Has no title

Who needs a title when the work`s this good?

What`s in a title?

I then contemplated on the technique of crowd-sourcing (calling in a bunch of passionate admirers and taking in their suggestions after appropriately weighted secret ballot voting). I didn`t want to go down that road, because I didn`t like the idea of being misconstrued as passively, yet unintentionally, receiving publicity. At the time of writing this though, I considered Mestake as a title possibility.

Originally, I wanted this post to be about why the blog suffered in quantity. The reason as it gradually poured in from the initial reports of introspection was that, I wasn`t the sharing type. Though it had been unequivocally vouched that I was both a good listener and a good talker, it also had been undeniably pointed out that nothing much gets shared. If one talked about movies, politics, religion, technology, and such, I typically reported on:

what aspects critics have reacted about

why experts opined that the public should(n`t) be outraged at the situation

how others talked about spirituality and faith getting often mixed-up

when columnists thought that research prowess would truly equate a nation`s progress

Was that pretty senior from university married now?

I turned out to be confidentially private when it came to feelings. Not even I could get Me to express:

what I felt about those aspects

why would(n`t) I be concerned about the situation

how would I define belief

when would I consider the nation`s really progressing

Though Me was quite ready to helpfully offer other details as to:

when the pretty senior got engaged and married

where the pretty senior currently lived,

Me was immediately tight-lipped over:

Me signing up for the Natural Language Programming course owing to that particular pretty senior, and ending up almost failing

The concern for the quantity pops up due to the fact that numbers don`t, and can`t simply lie. But, genuine devotees should immediately point out that the carefully chiseled quality makes up for quantity and that I shouldn`t take drastic decisions like coming up with this kind of a post just to make up the numbers. And even if entirely untrue it should also be pointed out, that numbers are indeed quite capable of lying.

Just to revisit the leftover concern, do followers want to consider crowd-sourcing the effort of coming up with a title for this post? Or do they want this post to end once and for all?

PS & Note to Feminists: Pretty senior, true story. No offense meant or intended.

A Eulogy (celebrating the demise of this blog)

Ardent readers of this blog know how the posts here, have touched and changed lives. My only request is that you keep it a secret (or else there is a danger of others believing it to be true).

In this last post, let me finally post (whew!) what I wanted to post about for quite sometime now and haven't posted (and never will, since the blog is now officially dead).

One particular subject on which I developed an outline to some extent, was the current state of (most) affairs in my home country. Another thought was on the agitation for a separate state in my home state. An issue on which I did a certain amount of research (read reading) was Voting. Periodically (and also suggested by my dear friends) I planned to write about (not review) movies that I watch so very regularly. There was one post where I wanted to dissect and discuss one of my many previous posts.

Right now, feminist or not, you would be wondering the reason for this blog's death. For a voice to be heard, one needs listening ears. For a blog to be read, one needs skimming eyes. One anonymous people-pleaser (no pun intended) with no interest in publicity whatsoever (ME, if you were wondering who), in the interest of other blogs yearning for readership, sacrificed this very popular blog shattering who knows how many dreams, hopes and aspirations. The real reason that is making rounds on The Internets though, is that the invisible blogger (ME, once again) succumbed to the invisible hand of market. Now that the blog is dead, the world will never know.

However, like Mozilla Phoenix, from whose ashes the Mozilla Firebird was born and from whose residues the Mozilla Firefox was conceived, this blog is dead only until the next post. It turns out that re-incarnation is particularly a rage, in my home country (ओम शान्ति ओम) as well as my home state (మగధీర).

Why is it that

Surely, this post is not to answer obvious questions like " Why is that you want to watch Blue, just for the sake of Lara Dutta? ". In what crooked up twisted world, do the words just and Lara Dutta appear in the same sentence?

Certainly, this post is not to answer tough questions like " Why is it that you, or for that matter several others, are a fan of Sarah Palin? " Beats me!

Indisputably, this post is not to answer impossible questions like " Why is it that you can't say when/whether you'd be married? ". Though the answer is: Because I can't solve that system of stochastic-partial-differential equations with quadratic constraints. I can't prove that it can't be solved and I certainly can't prove that no such proof exists. I surely hope that, though, there is at least one solution and I fantasize to what if there were multiple solutions. No solution means that I broke even.

However, this post is to comprehend why is it that people name their blogs with titles like musings, ramblings, rants and random thoughts.

Until blogs came along, people either kept their thoughts to themselves (not-so-lazy ones wrote diaries/journals) or vented them out to their close ones (no pun intended). Either way, you didn't face much criticism. Most of us never criticize our own thoughts all the way down and the close ones (no matter how much close they are) rarely oppose, for they know in the end its not such a big deal to matter anyway. They put up with some of these uncomfortable moments when crazy-you pours out such thoughts, so that they can spend quality rest-of-the-moments with not-so-crazy-you. Kind of like, me willing to put up with Blue just to watch Lara Dutta.

Some blogs only have creative names. Some others only have creative content. Very rarely you find a blog that has both creative name and content.

Rest of the blogs, like this one (and yeah modesty is my middle name), have neither. We are continuously and helplessly conscious of people (some of whom we probably don't know and won't ever meet) visiting the blog and reading our work. That fear, of others possibly opposing our view, is what makes us sit up.

As a first line of defense, against possible criticism, we name our blog rants, ramblings, musings, random thoughts and what not. This turns off any serious critics. Most comments and responses will then have to turn out to be, " Huh, that's your view point eh? Well here is mine. It shouldn't offend since I pretend that yours doesn't. " We don't name our blogs such, because we post only about pointless things. We name our blogs in spite of that.

Another line of defense is to slip-in our viewpoint into seemingly innocent posts about trip to the mall, walk in the park or journey on a train. That conveys the viewpoint was only temporary (for that time and space). Low or no harm done.

When have we ever argued all the way down anyway? We are so full of pride that we are ashamed to find ourselves proven wrong. Agreed, that there are questions (like the ones that I mentioned above) with no (simple) answers, but what about the ones that should have answers?

Why is it that we don't vehemently oppose corruption? Why is it that we allow moral policing by religious zealots? Why is it that child labor still prevails? Why is it that we continuously elect representatives who have no clue about anything whatsoever? Why is it that we hate to admit that we rarely even consider empowerment of women?

Blogging might have changed the way we communicate, but it certainly hasn't changed who we are. That reminds me, I should remember to watch Blue. For Lara Dutta.

Disclaimer (for feminists reading until now): Mentioning Lara Dutta should not be viewed as an objectification of women. But in fact as a personification of women.

Why don't you get a girl friend?

First of all, that is offensive. Even and especially to feminists, I suppose. Infact, I know no feminist who would say "Man, I should get a boyfriend.". Well, that may be because I know no feminists at all, but that's not the point.

Friends as I see are to be earned or made. They can't be got. Its not like, "Get a coffee", or "Get something to eat ", or "Get a shave". Now, it might be like "Get some help", or "Get a life", but that's not the point.

In the geographic miracle Bangalore, that I current stay at, guys don't seem to make girl-friends. For intricate reasons unknown to me, I think its the other way around. Girls make boy-friends. It may be different else where, but in Bangalore, that is how, I presume, things happen.

That leads us to consider the probability of a guy being made a boy-friend. In Bangalore.

In my opinion, the probability that a random girl making ME her boy-friend is close to one in a million.

What I am about to tell you is of so much significance that if any religious text viz. Gita, Koran or Bible were to be compiled in our times, they would seriously consider incorporating the following. Verbatim.

Ponder over the following list:

Guys who work in the software industry.

Guys who have a mustache, but no accompanying beard (French or otherwise).

Guys who don't wear shirts without collars (T or otherwise).

Guys who don't tuck in their shirts with collars (T or otherwise).

Guys who own only two pairs of jeans (Faded, Rags or otherwise).

Guys who don't wear shoes (Formal, Sports or otherwise).

Guys who wear prescription glasses.

Guys who wear Vibhuti and corresponding accessories.

Guys who don't know how to ride geared-two-wheelers.

Guys who have strong interest in classical dance, light music, poetry and theater.

Guys who own non-ipod mp3 player(s).

Guys who have both Taittareyaopanishad's Purusha Suktam and Tyagaraja's Nagumomu Kanaleni on their mp3 players (Ipod or otherwise).

Each one of the above classes of guys, has a low probability of ending up as some girl's boy-friend. Now you might say, it can't be that low to lead to one in a million. It ain't. But when you put all of them together (which is yours truly), it sure as hell comes close to one in a million.

Without touting too much of what may seem to be nerdiness to some, I got myself an account at LiveJournal so that I could have something called an OpenID account. I didn't want to blog. Infact, I am very reserved about verbs that end with a 'g'. Though, apart from 'blog', there is only one other verb that came to my mind as I typed that sentence. My search for 'english verbs that end with a g', did not return any useful verbs (I had to put 'english' in the search query because without it, I got a page of results that had spanish, french and japanese related pages).

A friend of mine, who writes a blog at We, I and a Why?, said "I see u hav a livejournal now. a plain and white one. u shd make it a li'l dirty, put something there.". So I thought, Oh! What the Hell.

My brother writes a blog at Cine Cyinc and he told me the reason why started writing, was similar to the reason why Agatha Christie started writing detective novels. Seems that she had too many thoughts about murders and mysteries that had to be "put down" or else she was afraid that she would commit a murder (and make it a mystery) herself. He told me that he had many thoughts that had to be "attended to" or they would be mind-boggling. So he started putting those thoughts down, and I presume since they were attended to, they didn't quite bother him that much. Further, Jerry Seinfeld, as Barry B. Benson in Bee Movie, said something similar about letting out our emotions, which comprised of "write" a letter. Even though this initial empirical evidence points to writing as a means to let out thoughts and emotions, I don't feel any kind of a need to let them out by writing them. Not because of privacy concerns mind you, but because there aren't too-many thoughts and disturbing emotions. But inspite of all that, Oh! What the Hell.

Karl Rove, of USA, came up with this remarkable idea to make a you-and-me-kinda-no-offence-to-feminists-guy as the President of the United States. The execution of that idea is the reason why USA had its The Great or The Greatest President of all time. Likewise the idea of blogging, originated in USA, as I presume, is all about you-and-me-kinda people with no understanding of tenses, no knowledge of grammar, armed with Spell-Check, hitting away at their keyboards. My prophecy is that the execution of this idea is what will generate that literary work to finally rival Hamlet.

However, I find that there are some truly-good-smartypant-and-smarty-skirt writers who are traitors to the Blog Movement. Even though they don't need the Backspace key or the Undo function or the Thesaurus button, they still use the web to write instead of sticking to good old paper. These are the ones that make all of us look bad. These are the ones that are a severe hindrance to the creation of that literary work rivaling Hamlet. I just have one word for them. Shoo! FEAR NOT, the rest of not-so-good and no-good-at-all bloggers. Most of the countries in the world are now governed by democrazies. The rest of the countries don't blog. This automatically translates to WE WIN.
