Neue Palm US-Werbespots

Palm hat ein paar neue Werbespots in den USA veröffentlicht. Bis jetzt ist gibt es in Deutschland noch keine neue Werbung bzw. Spots zum Pre & Pixi Plus. Mal schauen ob sich das noch ändern wird bzw. ob die Netzbetreiber oder Palm die Spots produzieren werden.

Einen Tag nach der überraschenden Übernahme von Palm durch HP, sind gestern Nacht & heute ein paar Informationen zum Zusammenschluss bekannt geworden. Hier ein kurzer Überblick:

HP kauft Palm für 1,2 Mil. Dollar

Heute sollte eigentlich der Start der neuen Palm Plus Geräte im Mittelpunkt stehen, bis uns vor ein paar Minuten diese Pressemitteilung erreichte: HP kauft Palm Inc. für 1,2 Mil. Dollar. Die Verschmelzung der beiden Unternehmen soll zum 31. Juli 2010 statt finden. Nach jetzigen Angabe soll CEO Jon Rubinstein erstmal Palm weiter führen.

Under the terms of the merger agreement, Palm stockholders will receive $5.70 in cash for each share of Palm common stock that they hold at the closing of the merger. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of domestic and foreign regulatory approvals and the approval of Palm’s stockholders. The transaction is expected to close during HP’s third fiscal quarter ending July 31, 2010.

Palm’s current chairman and CEO, Jon Rubinstein, is expected to remain with the company.

[review] Palm Pre Plus: Kameratest & Screenshots

Heute ist für Palm Freunde in Deutschland ein kleines Weihnachtsfest: Der Palm Pre Plus (und Pixi Plus) ist in Deutschland erhältlich. Nachdem wir uns vor zwei Tagen mit der Kamera des Pixi Plus beschäftigt haben, wird es in diesem Artikel um die Kamera, Foto- & Videokamerafunktion, und um die Displaygröße mit Screenshots gehen.

Kamera

Der Pre Plus ist mit einer 3 Megapixel Kamera inkl. LED-Blitz, erweiterter Schärfentiefe und Geotagging ausgestattet. Über die Geotagging Funktion des Pre Plus gilt das selbe wie beim Pixi Plus: Ich muss sagen, dass leider bei keinem der Testfotos ein Geotag angehängt wurde. Ich bin auch nicht wirklich sicher, ob dieses Feature überhaupt integriert ist: Es gibt erstens keine Einstellung dazu, zweitens wurde ich nie gefragt (wie z.B. bei Google Maps) ob ich meiner Ortung via GPS zu stimme.

Zur Fotofunktion:

Im Kurzen: Sehr gute Kamera, schöne Fotos, wie beim Pre. Etwas ausführlicher muss ich sagen, dass mich die Fotos sehr begeistert haben. Die Farben sind sehr strahlend, keine Farbränder oder auffällige Verläufe bzw. Stiche. Die Fotos sind absolut auf iPhone 3G / 3GS Nivau und setzten sich deutlich von der viel schlechteren 5 Megapixelkamera des Motorola Milestone ab (mehr dazu in einem späteren Test). Die Fotos aus der Teststrecke haben im Original alle ca. eine Größe von je 2 MB. Zu Bemängeln ist, und das ist die Achillesferse der Kamera, das Fehlen (wie beim Pre) eines Autofokus für die Kamera. Es ist mir nicht wirklich erklärlich warum diese beim Pre Plus nicht ergänzt wurde, da man nur so die Kamera auch auf bestimmte Bereiche fokussieren könnte. Zusätzlich sind meiner Meinung nach Handys in dieser Preisklasse ohne Autofokus nicht mehr wirklich zeitgemäß. Es zeigt sich hier sehr schön, dass Megapixel nicht das Wichtigste sind, aber der Nachbar aus Cupertino hat es Palm mal wieder vorgemacht – schade das dieser fehlt.

Im Vergleich zur Pixi Plus Kamera macht die Pre Plus Kamera natürlich bessere Ergebnisse, was nicht zu Letzt an der höheren Megapixelanzahl und einem besseren Kameramodule liegt.

Ein original Bild, nicht bearbeitet, gibt’s hier. Der LED Blitz erledigt einen guten Job, es kann nicht schaden ihn bei der Kamera dabei zu haben.

Zur Videokamera: Hier muss man leider Abstriche machen, diese ist weit schlechter als die Fotokamera. Die Videos haben eine Auflösung von 640×480 Pixel und sich so für YouTube geeignete. Für ein kurzes Video ist die Kamera bestimmt geeignet, aber um Urlaubs-/Party-Videos oder dergleichen zu drehen leider nicht.

Display

Der Pre Plus verfügt über ein Multitouch-Bildschirm mit 3,1 Zoll und 24-Bit HVGA-Farbdisplay (Auflösung 320 × 480). Es handelt sich um das Gleiche oder ein sehr ähnliches Display zum Palm Pre. Es scheint etwas heller zu sein, sonst aber auf der gleicher guten Qualitätsebene wie das des Pre. Obwohl kein Glasdisplay verarbeitet ist, fühlt es sich sehr ähnlich einem solchen an. Es wirkt sehr solide und um einiges stabiler als beim Pixi Plus. Die Farben und Kontraste sind sehr gut. Mehr kann man dazu nicht sagen, außer natürlich ein größeres Display mit mehr Auflösung hätte einem Pixi Plus nicht schlecht getan.

Ich kann euch nur empfehlen, für alle Interessenten, schaut euch mal den Pixi Plus im Laden an und probiert ihn aus. Generell handelt es sich natürlich um ein schlechter ausgestattetes Gerät, jedoch liegt der Pixi Plus super in der Hand und die Tastatur ist die Beste die ich bis jetzt an einem Smartphone getestet habe.

[review] Palm Pixi Plus: Kameratest & Screenshots

In zwei Tagen wird es soweit sein: Der neue Palm Pixi Plus wird in Deutschland bei o2 Germany & Vodafone erhältlich sein. In diesem Teil unseres Tests zum Pixi Plus soll es um die Kamera einerseits und andererseits um die Displaygröße des Pixi Plus gehen.

Kamera

Es handelt sich laut technischen Daten beim Pixi Plus um eine Kamera mit 2 Megapixel und LED-Blitz und Geotagging. Zum Geotagging muss ich sagen, dass dies leider bei keinem der Testfotos ein Geotag angehängt wurde. Ich bin auch nicht wirklich sicher, ob dieses Feature überhaupt integriert ist: Es gibt erstens keine Einstellung dazu, zweitens wurde ich nie gefragt (wie z.B. bei Google Maps) ob ich meiner Ortung via GPS zu stimme.

Zur zwei Megapixel (Foto-) Kamera: Die Fotos des Pixi Plus setzten sich leider negativ von denen des Pre bzw. pre Plus ab. Die Farben sind schwächer, der Kontrast schlechter. Man merkt leider, dass hier einerseits weniger Megapixel verarbeitet wurden, aber viel wichtiger, auch ein qualitativ schlechteres Module verarbeitet wurde. Trotzdem erzeugt die Kamera in ihrem Rahmen gute Fotos, welche durchaus gegen einige 3 Megapixel Kamera von Android Smartphones besteht.

Ein original Bild, nicht bearbeitet, gibt’s hier. Der LED Blitz erledigt einen guten Job, es kann nicht schaden ihn bei der Kamera dabei zu haben.

Zur Videokamera: Hier kann man das Gleiche wie zur Fotokamera sagen, sie macht ihren Job. Die Videos haben eine Auflösung von 640×480 Pixel und sich so für YouTube geeignete. Für ein kurzes Video ist die Kamera bestimmt geeignet, aber um Urlaubs-/Party-Videos oder dergleichen zu drehen leider nicht.

Display

Beim Display des Palm Pixi Plus handelt es sich um einen Multitouch-Bildschirm mit 2,63 Zoll und 18-Bit-HVGA-Farbdisplay (Auflösung 320 × 400). Man merkt die fehlenden 80 Pixel, es lässt sich jedoch nach einer gewissen Gewöhnungszeit durchaus damit gut leben. Das Display fühlt sich aus haptischer Sicht nicht so stabil wie beim Pre Plus an, man merkt hier sehr deutlich das es sich um Plastik handelt. Der Druckpunkt des Fingers wird sehr gut erkannt. Mir sind bislang keine Mängel bei der Benutzung und Erkennung der Finger aufgefallen. Von den Farben und Kontrast her handelt es sich beim Display des Pixi Plus schon um ein eher billigeres Modell, mit etwas weniger Farbstärke und Intensität.
