Incheon Grand Bridge – South korea. 16 October 2009 – Macquarie Korea Infrastructure Fund (“MKIF”) today announced that the Incheon Grand Bridge1 will open to traffic at 12:00 am on 19 October. At 12.3km long with a main cable stayed span of 800m the new Incheon Bridge will be one of the five longest of its type in the world. Its 33.4m wide steel/concrete composite deck will carry six lanes of traffic 74m above the main shipping route in and out of Incheon port and link the new Incheon International Airport on Yongjing Island to the international business district of New Songdo City and the metropolitan districts of South Koreas capital, Seoul. The cable stayed section of the crossing is 1480m long, made up of five spans measuring 80m, 260m, 800m, 260m and 80m respectively: height of the inverted Y main towers is 230.5m. A 1.8km approach span and 8.7km viaduct complete the crossing, both constructed with precast prestressed concrete box girder decks. Foundations are drilled piles 3m in diameter. Total cost is more than $1.4bn, which is funded through a Private Partnership in Investment (PPI), the first in South Korea to involve an outside strategic investor. APPROXIMATELY 40-MINUTE REDUCTION IN TRAVEL TIME TO INCHEON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FROM SOUTHERN PART OF SEOUL AND INCHEON CITY A SUBSTANTIAL ENHANCEMENT IN CONNECTIVITY TO INCHEON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FROM SOUTHERN PART OF GYEONGGI PROVINCE AND CHUNGCHEONG PROVINCE VIA THE 2ND AND 3RD KYUNGIN EXPRESSWAYS AND SEOHAEAN …

This unique bicycle/pedestrian bridge is the worlds longest stress-ribbon bridge. The stress-ribbon bridge is a type of suspension bridge with cables embedded in an ultra-thin concrete deck. This type of bridge is rare, with only six examples in North America and fewer than 50 worldwide. The stress-ribbon type was selected to minimize environmental impacts and because it works well aesthetically in both wet and dry lake conditions. Since the superstructure was constructed of precast concrete panels suspended from cables, there was no need for falsework, which could have caused sever damage to the park. The visual impact was minimized with a 16 in. deck and 330 ft spans, limiting the number of piers in the lake to two. The stress-ribbon design resulted in an economical, durable, and signature structure for the area while minimizing impacts to biological and cultural resources. This innovative precast concrete solution eliminated a 9 mi trail detour and provides a safe route for bicycle commuters.

Trilha Sonora: Artista: Roberta Sá Música: Mais Alguém — The Rio-Niterói Bridge is a Box girder bridge that connects the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói in Brazil. It is currently the longest prestressed concrete bridge in the southern hemisphere, and the sixth longest in the world. From the year it was constructed until 1985 it was the world’s second longest bridge, losing only to Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. Construction began symbolically on August 23, 1968, with the presence of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in their first and thus far only visit to Brazil. Actual work began in January, 1969, and it opened on March 4, 1974. Its official name is the “President Costa e Silva Bridge”, in honor of the Brazilian president who ordered its construction. “Rio-Niterói” started as a descriptive nickname that soon became better known than the official name. Today, hardly anyone refers to it by its official name. The bridge was constructed by a pool of Brazilian construction firms. It is 13290 m (8.25 miles) long – 8836 m (5.49 miles) over water and the bridge’s central span is 72 m (236.22 feet) high in order to allow the passage of hundreds of ships entering and leaving the bay every month. It carries 140000 vehicles daily, which pay a toll only when entering Niterói of R$4.00 (as of September 2009[update]), about US$2.25 or €1.55 It has 18 access points and eight overpasses.
