If I were traveling I'd call it culture shock. But, in this case it's generation shock. I was a child in the 1970's and did not see all the easy sexuality and access to drugs which (apparently) Amelia Beamer is writing about from her perspective on the current generation. It was a generation shock and I did not like it. Not the shock part, but the assumption that sex and drugs are common place. That's my perspective.

What I liked very much about the story was the ending. Almost never do you read a zombie story where there is a cure! She calls them "antiretrovirals". Is that a real word? I didn't look it up yet.

Sadly, Kate, the main character left standing, eats the other main character at the end of the story, or nearly the end. Don't read that if you want to keep the ending a surprise. I usually read the ending of the book as I'm reading it - but I missed that surprise right until I actually read it. Romance is dead - once you've eaten it.

I would read another book by Amelia Beamer. But, I might not buy it new.

Green Earth by Kim Stanley Robinson

I just finished Green Earth by Kim Stanley Robinson. It was too long.

Mainly I found it slow paced for such a long book. Although it is 3 books from a series melded into one, I still expected more.

There were some interesting philosophies and ideas. In particular the urban feral lifestyle, which I have read about online, and experienced some myself.

I didn't not like the book, but I won't be so eager for more by the same author.
