Denis Smirnov, from Optimalon explains: “When 1DCutX calculates how to cut linear stocks with minimal material waste, it generates a list of cutting layouts. Several stocks can be cut simultaneously instead of one by one. The fewer layouts produced during the calculation, the less time cutting operators spend loading stocks”.

The new version of 1DCutX introduces the option “Minimize count of different layouts” that forces the optimization algorithm to produce as few layouts as possible. However, this option could reduce the total utilization rate because it could use more stocks than the regular calculation.

Automation has always been at the top of the list of client requests for 1DCutX, and this new version brings it to life.
Denis Smirnov continues: “Support of VBA automation provides a new way to perform optimization in 1DCutX. Instead of using standard dialog box invoked from the menu, users now can call the “Execute” method from VBA code and get the same results as before”.

Users just need to create an instance of the linear cutting class, assign settings and specify the ranges of cells containing the stocks and parts information. The method “Execute” returns a text value that is empty if the calculation is done successfully; otherwise it returns an error message.

Automation allows users to tune-up the generated reports by including/excluding the graphical layouts, the part/stock matrix or the cutting instruction spreadsheets. The new version of 1DCutX comes with an automation guide that describes in detail how to create, set up and run the calculation using VBA. In addition, the installation provides a new example spreadsheet with simple VBA code that demonstrates automation in action.

With the initial investments of $97 users of 1DCutX reported monthly savings in materials alone range from $200 to $1500, which means the software pays for itself in less than a month.

A convoy of eight i-MiEVs attended the opening of the new charge point in the Adelaide Hills yesterday, with South Australian Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Conservation, Hon. Paul Caica MP, officially launching the charger by plugging in a Mitsubishi i-MiEV.

MMAL vice-president corporate strategy, Paul Stevenson, welcomed the addition of another public charging station for i-MiEV users to the South Australian network.

“As the i-MiEV gains popularity, the expansion of the charging network in Australia is an important step towards an electric future. i-MiEV owners can now re-charge at a number of locations in Adelaide, including the free fast charger located at Mitsubishi Motors’ head office in Clovelly Park,” Mr Stevenson said.

The EV charging station at The Organic Market and Café, Stirling, was installed by ChargePoint and features Level 1 (15 amps) and Level 2 (32 amps) charging points.

The stand out performer in March was Triton, retailing 1,186 units and strengthening its place as Australia’s third best-selling utility in a highly competitive segment. Triton 4×2 came in at 535 units, also taking third spot in its respective segment.

Overall MMAL’s SUVs performed extremely well, with total SUV sales of 2,470. Pajero was the strongest performer in March with 638 units, a massive 58.3 percent increase over the March 2011 result. This growth was almost three times greater than the SUV Medium segment which increased by 20.6 per cent for the month.

Challenger also ended the month strongly with 202 units, a healthy 14.8 percent jump over the same month in 2011.

The city-sized ASX enjoyed its best ever result since launch with 748 units while Outlander recorded a respectable 882 units, more than 24 per cent up on March 2011.

Vice-president of sales, Anthony Casey, said the strong March result, particularly in SUVs, was a reflection of MMAL’s commitment to responding to consumer needs.

“Mitsubishi is committed to sustainable, consistent growth, and with an exciting range of products coming to the Australian market during 2012-13 we are confident of growing the Mitsubishi brand well into the future,” he said.

Year-to-date, MMAL has recorded 15,739 units, a 2.8 per cent increase on 2011’s first quarter results.

Mission Viejo, CA – April 19, 2012 – With the current business slow-down and recession in its fourth year, a new book from author, business coach and corporate trainer John Bulman titled, “Profitability Thinking:  Simple Concepts, Strategies and Tools to Effectively Manage Cash Flow and Make More Profitable Business Decisions,” offers small business owners and managers easy to understand ways to improve the performance of their businesses that can be simply and quickly implemented.

According to the author, “Many small business owners and managers don’t understand the metrics generated by their businesses and business activities, and how they might be used to increase profitability, manage cash flow, reduce their business risk and improve their management effectiveness.  Typically these business people want to understand how to use their internal metrics and financials to improve the performance of their businesses, but find the information overwhelming and don’t know where to begin. ”

weekly at a minimum.  These are the basics to get control of a business.  Make sure the format of the Income Statement and Balance Sheet have enough detail to identify key areas of the business, and have them presented with several sequential months side by side so trends can be identified.  Bulman said, “Doing this will improve profitability and reduce business risk.”

2.  Know the breakeven point for the business, and how to project profits for it under various pricing, volume, contribution margin, marketing and cost assumptions that you might consider.  According to the author, “Knowing this information will help make better business decisions and avoid costly mistakes because the likely effects of decisions will be understood before they’re made.”

3.  Improve sales and margins by suggesting related purchases with high margins.  Also and related to selling additional high margin products and services is up selling to a better product or service with better margins.  Finally, add more value to your product or service and charge for it.  According to Bulman, “Doing creative things with what you sell will improve margins and the average sale per customer, and improve the bottom line.”

The author concluded that, “Recessions are temporary, but effective business  management pays dividends as long as the business exists.  If small business owners and managers use the concepts, strategies and tools outlined in the book, their business’s performance will improve as will their bottom line.

The objective of the ALIX initiative is to transform Tenerife into a main link within the global telecommunications network via the development of the neutral Internet access point (or NAP) for Western Africa-Canary Islands, the Island Telecommunications Ring and the CanaLink Project.

As a result of the geographical location of the Canary Islands in a key zone between Latin America, Africa and the rest of Europe, the Archipelago acts as a privileged tri-continental bridge. Status as a platform between three continents offers many advantages in a number of areas including cultural, social, economic, business spheres. All areas of our daily lives can be benefitted via good management of the location of the Islands within this globalised world.

The Western Africa-Canary Islands Nap (Network Access Point) is the element that will enable Tenerife to exploit its possibilities as a tri-continental platform and bridge, commencing with fundamental issue: communications. The Nap, to be installed in Granadilla, will house various existing submarine cable links along with others that are being prepared both between the Islands and within the Canary Islands-Europe-Africa-Latin America axis.

Therefore, the Council of Tenerife’s Western Africa-Canary Islands Nap will act as a neutral data centre that not only serves as a point of concentration and distribution of international connectivity, but also as a base infrastructure for local information technology companies interested in competing overseas, or international companies that wish to operate in Western Africa using Tenerife as a platform, with the legal security afforded by location in the EU, hoping to benefit from the additional fiscal advantages associated with the Canary Islands’ status as an Outermost Region.

In order to provide alternatives to internal connections, the Council is creating a fibre-optic cable network that will allow the Island to provide its own infrastructure for voice and data transmission.

The first phase will see the southern zone of Tenerife linked to the facilities of the Canary Islands Astrophysics Institute, using the layout of the roads and motorways on the Island. The second phase will see fibre-optics extended to the north and south-east, also via the road network managed by the Island Corporation.

The Island Telecommunications Ring of Tenerife will also be connected to the Western Africa-Canary Islands Nap.

The CanaLink project is another cornerstone of ALIX. CanaLink will contribute to the end of the monopoly within cable communications. CanaLink is formed by the Telecommunications Technology Institute (IT3) and the neutral submarine cable operator, IslaLink. It is responsible for laying a new cable between Tenerife and Rota (Cadiz), which will result in the liberalisation of the sector.

This submarine cable will avoid failures in data transmission and will afford high levels of quality to telecommunications within the Archipelago. It will fulfil the demands of the various telecommunications operators that operate in the remainder of the national territory that currently have their access to the market of the Canary Islands restricted.
