Citrus Basketball beats Glendale in Conference Double Header

In the women’s game, the Owls (4-18, 4-3) overcame a poor start and rallied with a huge second half to beat the Vaqueros 65-40. Citrus outscored Glendale 42-18 in the final 20 minutes, as sophomore Brianna Barfield (Lynwood HS) contributed 16 points and snatched eight rebounds.

This comes in the wake of Barfield being named the WSC South Player of the Week earlier this week.

Freshman Kenya Thomas (Sonora HS) had 12 points and eight boards in the win. Citrus handled Glendale defensively, allowing them to shoot just 15.8% (3 of 19) from the field in the second half. Michelle Eclar led Glendale with 9 points for Glendale in a losing effort.

Meanwhile, the men's team (20-1, 7-0), ranked No.2 in state, found themselves trailing at halftime for the third straight game and fourth time in their last five contests. The Owls rallied once more out-scoring Glendale 54-33 in the final period as they went on to win 98-84. After allowing Glendale to shoot 57.9% from the floor in the first half, Citrus held them to just 38.2% shooting in the second. Freshman Kerry Carter (West Covina HS) scored a season high 20 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the floor. Sophomore James Walker (Los Alamitos HS) had a game high 23 in the win, while sophomore Brandon Parga (Cathedral HS) added 20. Freshman Kendrick Thomas (Fairfax HS) had his third straight double-double with 11 points and a game high 14 rebounds. Marquis Brooks had 22 and 10 for Glendale in the loss.

Hacienda League Hoops heating up this week, Mustangs travel to face Panthers

Varsity basketball action is heating up in the Hacienda League. The SGV Tribune prep sports reported earlier in the week that Walnut High's girls basketball team (5-13, 1-3) fell to Bonita on Wednesday night by the score of 67-46. According to the Trib's prep blog, Bonita capitalized on five turnovers by Walnut (1-3 in league) to take a 28-7 lead after one quarter of play and cruised to the victory, despite Walnut's Reetika Singh contributing 14 points and Angela Aie 13 points.

The boys did not fare any better, as they fell to the Bobcats 55-40.

Walnut (14-7, 3-2) looks to get back on the winning track as they visit the Diamond Ranch Panthers, and the press box will bring you quarter by quarter updates of all the action on our twitter feed (see the link on the sidebar here)

Bonita is a perfect 4-0 so far in league this season, while Walnut and Rowland are both chasing the Bobcats with three wins each.

Are the N.Y. Giants the most complete team heading into the NFL final four? Or is Chris Collinsworth just full of it?
Can the Baltimore Ravens muster enough offensive power as they take on the offensive machine that is New England?
Joe Flacco vs. Alex Smith? Does it matter? Does it come down to defense in both SF and Baltimore?
Giants LB Michael Boley figures to play a big part in Sunday's NFC Championship Game, or will the 49ers d' outplay the G-men??
