You guys, I have been led to believe, are supposed to be quite thick skinned types. I just made the observation that a newspaper which espouses free market principles and has backed the Conservatives at every election since...well the dawn of time I guess, would understand the need for these redundancies. I am sure they would understand as they explained to Tata Steel workers, coal miners, ship-builders, railway workers, and many others over the years that jobs cannot be protected. When there is technological change and a downturn in demand for your product or service you cannot expect special favours from the government or sympathy from anyone. You have to..."get on your bike" and find alternative employment.

You ask whether I loath only pro-right wing newspapers. It is, of course, a fact, that there is only one non-right-wing quality newspaper (The Guardian) and one non-right-wing tabloid (The Daily Mirror). That's quite depressing because the Conservatives got about 37% of the popular vote at the last election, representing just 25% of the electorate. It is not the case that 100% of the readers of all newspaper apart from the two mentioned support the Conservatives. Of course people are free to buy whichever newspapers they like. What is totally unacceptable is that these grossly unrepresentative newspapers lead the broadcast news. The EU referendum is a case in point.

Re: Fresh wave of redundancies at Telegraph

You do take a slightly worrying delight in any development to the detriment of journalists. Do you loathe all media, just print media, just people who work for pro-right publications (even if they hold quite different views but try to do their job with professionalism and integrity)? Which of the named Telegraph casualties do you especially despise if it's not just a hatred of all? Tell us what kind of journalists and journalism you actually applaud and also tell us what you do for a living so that we can start to scrutinise your trade of profession.

Re: Warning that Land Registry sell-off threatens journalism and public's right to know

Absolute insanity!!! That relationship simply does not exist now - the paper I worked for now has no local police door to knock on; it has to call a press office 15 miles away. When I revisited as a news editor more recently, and tried to chase small space-filling, low-level crime stories, the sort that are crucial grist to credible local news, a press officer told me: "No, it doesn't work like that now, you have to ask me about a specific incident, and we can then confirm what we know about it." Hence they are removing the proactive news reporting of grass-roots, low-level crime. Why on earth would they want to do this, you might ask, the no-brainer corollary being "why wouldn't they"?

Re: New police media guidelines iset out new wide-ranging controls on contact between officers and journalists

Control is power and power controls, which is exactly what these guidelines are designed for. They are not meant to enhance effective communication between Investigating Officers and the media which if dealt with properly would enable greater effectiveness in bringing offenders to justice and supporting victims. In a few years time very few if any police officers will have any media experience which would be a tremendous loss of skills. Instead it will be in the hands of those not directly engaged in Crime Investigation or prevention, those who sit behind desks and think only of their own careers rather than public service. These are bad guidelines and further enhances the belief we are entering a Police State.

Re: Fresh wave of redundancies at Telegraph

A newspaper that's gone to the dogs.

Re: Sun still most popular UK newspaper with more than 13m readers, according to survey

The Guardian is read by psychotic dictator personalities who will not be happy until every child is a transgender vegan sex-change case-study by the time they are 5 years old.
