Guard for the UK has been withdrawn from Amazon August 2020

Coming to the UK Soon

The new command for Alexa "Alexa, I'm leaving" will activate Guard Mode.
Alexa will then listen for sound in your house like breaking glass,smoke alarms etc and will alert you on your mobile and send you a spinet so you can listen and then use Drop in to listen yourself.

This feature is only available in the US at the moment

Gatwick is to trial Robot Valet parking this summer. A electric powered robot will collect your car from the car park entrance, it will then using military grade Satellite navigation park it in a much smaller space. This means that more cars can be put in the the same car park footprint, Also this will provide more security as there will not be enough room between cars for a person to open the doors.

Now my thoughts on this are

This is supposing that all your devices are wireless.
This would mean changing the settings in all your connected devices, and then back again when the broadband is restored.
What if you have poor or no 4G reception.
Why would you not just tether your mobile.
The package also gives you double data on your mobile so why would you need to wait for a hub just tether everything.

So this looks to me like a gimmick to extract more rental out of the customer who is not technically minded.

Well can an Amazon echo dot be used for in business? In answer to that i would say yes as an aid in some areas where security is not a great factor. Below I have listed some areas I think it can be of use.

As a means of desk top communication, The Echo dot can be used as a hand free chat device between office \ desk . ie " Alexa call transport".
As a research tool, while you are typing you a can ask Alexa to look something up in Wikapedia or generally over the web.
As a shopping aid to order stationary etc.
Add tasks to a todo List
Order a Cab
Check you flight status
Check the weather

The list really is endless and with IFTTT integration the world is you oyster. Hope this has given you an idea or to to improve your productivity or just to make you work life easier.

London Airport Goes Digital

London City airport is staying with NATS for the next 10 years after signing a partnaship deal in November.
In 2020 the airport will move to a digital platform giving Swanwick live HD footage of the airport displayed on 14 screens. It is reported that the CAA took some convincing to approve this but has given the go ahead.
