The couple was already in the middle of what looked like a bitter custody battle for their four children, but the gloves are about to come off. RadarOnline reports that Seal is planning to use Heidi’s relationship with bodyguard Martin Kristen as leverage to get a bigger settlement out of the divorce, and get more time with the children.

“Seal will make Heidi’s life a misery now that she’s confirmed she’s together with Martin,” a source explained to the website.

It appears that the singer’s pride has been hurt by Heidi’s admission she’s been dating her bodyguard for three months, and according to the source, “[Seal] didn’t expect her to find happiness with someone else before their divorce was officially finalized. It’s a real blow to his ego and he now wants more money from her in the divorce settlement –- just because she’s dating somebody before the paperwork is settled.”

Things were already starting to look grim for the couple, who were married for seven years before they announced their separation in January, and officially filed for divorce in April. The couple released a joint statement about their initial separation and it appeared as though things were amicable, but an apparent custody dispute and the fact that Seal has contested Klum’s claim they had no joint assets to be divided between them, sets the foundation for a bitter, drawn out divorce. Given that Seal is worth a reported $15 million, while Klum is worth $70 million, it’s poised to be a big battle with plenty to argue about.

And if Seal wants to play dirty, Heidi is ready to take him on in court.

“Heidi won’t back down and isn’t prepared to give up her fortune or custody of their children without a fight,” the insider explained to RadarOnline. “If she has to, she will face off against him in court. Heidi thinks he’s being incredibly petty and also doesn’t think he legally has a leg to stand on.”

It’s been a difficult time for Heidi, who took the high road when she broke her silence about Seal’s comments about her relationship with Martin Kristen.

“I cherish all of the great memories Seal and I created together over the years. Our separation was based on issues between the two of us. Seal has moved on and so have I. My priority has and continues to be protecting and providing for our children,”Klum said in a statement to People magazine.

The actor and academic is the target of a lawsuit filed Tuesday by his former NYU film professor. Jose Angel Santana is suing Franco for defamation — the actor made “disparaging and inaccurate public statements” about Santana after receiving a “D” in his class in 2010.

“Whoever was in Clint Eastwood’s chair at the Republican National Convention was more present than Mr. Franco was in my classes,” Santana told the New York Post. “He uses the bully pulpit of his celebrity to punish anyone who doesn’t do his bidding.”

This isn’t the first time Santana has taken legal action involving his former student. In November 2011, Santana filed a lawsuit against New York University in an attempt to win back his job (he was fired in September 2011). In the lawsuit, the former adjunct professor claimed that there was a university-wide conspiracy to let Franco glide through his NYU studies without putting in the work — a conspiracy in which he refused to participate. Franco reportedly missed 12 of his 14 “Directing The Actor II” classes, earning him the near-failing grade. The “Spider-Man” actor reportedly had the same spotty attendance record in the rest of his classes, but other teachers still passed the actor with decent grades.

“I did the work, I did well in everything else,” Franco told Showbiz411 in 2010.

Santana is seeking unspecified damages from Franco.

“I didn’t deserve to be on the receiving end of those falsehoods,” Santana continued. “I was outraged that someone with his attendance record at NYU had the audacity to make those statements.”

The statements in question? In April, when asked about the initial lawsuit, Franco told reporters of Santana’s subpar teaching skills and said he didn’t want to “waste my time with a bad teacher.”

Since graduating from NYU with an MFA, Franco has even secured a teaching position at the university, schooling students on adapting poetry into short films.

Perhaps this latest legal drama will prove to be inspiration for a limerick or two.

The 26-year-old shaved her head in solidarity with her good friend Summer Miller, 36, who is battling breast cancer and is about to start chemotherapy.

The singer sent “Good Morning America” the video of the moment the two friends took the plunge and embraced the buzzed look.

According to a press release on Pickler’s Facebook page, the two women have known each other since childhood and Kellie refers to Summer as her “sister.”

Miller has a family history of breast cancer, and has always been cautious with self-examinations. Thanks to vigilant monitoring by her doctor, they were able to detect a tumor while it was still in its early stages, and more likely to respond to treatment. Miller recently underwent a double mastectomy and will begin chemotherapy on Aug. 6.

“Cancer does not discriminate,” Pickler told “GMA”, and Miller added, “If this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it.”

The charges stem from two separate incidents, with the first one taking place just days after she was arrested for a DUI in April.

Bynes allegedly rear-ended another vehicle while driving an Enterprise rental car, but, according to TMZ, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office rejected the case due to lack of witnesses.

However, the case has since been reopened after Bynes was reportedly involved in another incident in August. This time, police say Bynes left the scene of a minor accident without exchanging information with the other driver.

If Bynes is convicted on the two hit-and-run charges, she could face up to one year in jail.

“With two years left to graduation, he will not be allowed a ‘special pass’ to let him attend the VMAs,” an expert on higher education tells me. “If he was ill or had a family crisis, an exception would be made. But no way would the school agree that seeing his famous girlfriend perform would be more important than his education. What sort of message would that send to other students or about how seriously the school takes its work?”

It should also be noted that Thursday isn’t just a major day for Taylor Swift and her 18-year-old boyfriend. President Barack Obama accepts his party’s nomination in Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday as well.

Tutu, the retired Anglican Church’s archbishop of South Africa, wrote in an op-ed piece for The Observer newspaper that the ex-leaders of Britain and the United States should be made to “answer for their actions.”

The Iraq war “has destabilized and polarized the world to a greater extent than any other conflict in history,” wrote Tutu, who was awarded the Nobel prize in 1984.

“Those responsible for this suffering and loss of life should be treading the same path as some of their African and Asian peers who have been made to answer for their actions in the Hague,” he added.

The Hague, Netherlands, based court is the world’s first permanent war crimes tribunal and has been in operation for 10 years. So far it has launched prosecutions only in Africa, including in Sudan, Congo, Libya and Ivory Coast.

Tutu has long been a staunch critic of the Iraq war, while others opposed to the conflict – including playwright Harold Pinter – have previously called for Bush and Blair to face prosecution at the Hague.

“The then-leaders of the U.S. and U.K. fabricated the grounds to behave like playground bullies and drive us further apart. They have driven us to the edge of a precipice where we now stand – with the specter of Syria and Iran before us,” said Tutu, who last week withdrew from a conference in South Africa due to Blair’s presence at the event.

While the International Criminal Court can handle cases of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, it does not currently have the jurisdiction to prosecute crimes of aggression. Any potential prosecution over the Iraq war would likely come under the aggression category.

The U.S. is among nations which do not recognize the International Criminal Court.

In response to Tutu, Blair said he had great respect for the archbishop’s work to tackle apartheid in South Africa, but accused him of repeating inaccurate criticisms of the Iraq war.

“To repeat the old canard that we lied about the intelligence is completely wrong as every single independent analysis of the evidence has shown,” Blair said. “And to say that the fact that Saddam (deposed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein) massacred hundreds of thousands of his citizens is irrelevant to the morality of removing him is bizarre.”

However, Blair said that “in a healthy democracy people can agree to disagree.”

In Britain, a two-year long inquiry examining the buildup to the Iraq war and its conduct is yet to publish its final report. The panel took evidence from political leaders including Blair, military chiefs and intelligence officers. Two previous British studies into aspects of the war cleared Blair’s government of wrongdoing.

The Iraq war was bitterly divisive in the U.K. and saw large public demonstrations. However, Blair subsequently won a 2005 national election, though with a reduced majority.

There have been 34 attacks by Afghan police or soldiers on their international allies so far this year – at least 12 in August alone. The members of the Afghan security forces have killed 45 international troops, putting intense strain on the relationship. The attacks have complicated a key pillar in the plan for the U.S.-led coalition to withdraw by the end of 2014 – training Afghan forces to take the lead in securing their own country.

Lt. Col. Todd Harrell, a spokesman for U.S. special operations forces in Afghanistan, said the Americans have halted training for at least a month of about 1,000 trainees of the Afghan Local Police (ALP), a government-backed militia that is under the authority of the national police but operates independently. He said the Americans are redoing background checks on the Afghans.

“The training of the ALP recruits has been paused while we go through this re-vetting process to take a look at this process to see if there’s anything that we can improve,” Harrell said. “It may take a month. It may take two months. We don’t know.”

The United States and its allies have been training the Afghan army and police so that they can gradually take over security for the country by the end 2014. They hope to have about 350,000 Afghans trained and ready by the end of the year, and gradually have been putting them in the lead for security in parts of Afghanistan since last year.

Coalition authorities have said about 25 percent of this year’s insider attacks had confirmed or suspected links to the Taliban. The militants have sometimes infiltrated the ranks of the Afghan army and police and in other cases are believed to have coerced or otherwise persuaded legitimate members to turn on their coalition partners.

The international forces in Afghanistan have been revisiting both security for their forces and re-examining the backgrounds of the Afghan forces in the wake of the recent attacks on international troops. The coalition has already been re-vetting Afghan soldiers returning from leave.

U.S. special operations forces are responsible for the 16,000-strong ALP and decided to stop training the new recruits among them while re-vetting them. The ALP already in the field, who have already been trained, will continue to operate as normal, Harrel said. The government will also keep recruiting new members, he said.

Col. Tom Collins, a spokesman for the international military coalition in Afghanistan, also said there was no set date to resume training of the ALP.

The pause in training was first reported by the Washington Post.

Harrell also disclosed for the first time on Sunday that the Americans last month suspended operations by the Afghan special forces last month to re-vet those soldiers for any potential ties to insurgents or any other indications that they might turn on their allies. He said the suspension lasted less than two weeks and that the forces have since resumed operations.

Harrell said he was not aware of any Afghan troops who were suspended or flagged for monitoring in that round of re-vetting.

The Post also reported that training of special operations forces had been halted. But a spokesman for the NATO training mission in Afghanistan, or NTM-A, which oversees this training, said there has been no such pause.

“There has been no halt in training with NTM-A assets as they relate to special forces,” said Maj. Steve Neta of the Canadian military. He also said no other training programs involving the traditional military or police have been halted for re-vetting.

The head of the Afghan special operations forces, Brig. Gen. Sayed Abul Karim, confirmed there has been no pause to the training of his forces. The program to train Afghan special operations forces had already been on break for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which ended in late August, and had been scheduled to restart in mid-September.

“It will continue,” he said, adding it has not been halted. “After the 15th of September, we restart,” he added.

The most recent insider attack took place last week when an Afghan army soldier turned his gun on Australian soldiers, killing three of them and wounding two, the Australian military.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s office condemned an operation by international troops to catch the shooter, describing it as unilateral. He alleged it resulted in the deaths of two civilians – a 70-year-old man his 30-year-old son. Karzai’s office said in a statement late Saturday that the operation took place without the coordination or approval of provincial authorities and violated an agreement that calls on Afghan troops to lead night raids.

Night raids have been a contentious issue between Afghan and international forces because the Karzai administration insists that they often end up killing civilians and antagonize the population, while the international coalition has maintained that they are necessary for rooting out insurgents. The U.S. military has struck an agreement to put Afghans at the head of its operations in villages, but there is no such agreement for the entire international coalition.

The international military alliance responded by saying that Afghan officials approved and supported the strike.

In a related incident, NATO said it arrested a Taliban insurgent who was responsible for the May 12 shooting of two members of the British military in Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province in the south.

At the time the man was a member of the Afghan police. An accomplice was shot and killed at the scene. The man, who was not further identified, was arrested along with another suspected insurgent on Aug. 30 in the Hisarak district of eastern Nangarhar province.

Yahoo Inc. said it condemns political suppression “wherever and however it occurs.”

The statement released Saturday did not directly address the case of Wang Xiaoning, who served 10 years in prison after Yahoo’s wholly owned Hong Kong subsidiary gave Chinese police information linking him to anonymous emails and other pro-democracy writings he distributed through Yahoo Groups.

Yahoo drew strong criticism for cooperating with Chinese authorities. It later apologized and settled a lawsuit with the families involved for an undisclosed amount.

Fresh from its $1 billion court victory over Samsung Electronics Co, Apple Inc., in a separate case, asked a federal district court in San Jose, California, on Friday to add four more products to a list of Samsung goods that Apple says infringe its patents.

The new list of 21 products includes Samsung’s flagship smartphone Galaxy S III as well as the Galaxy Note, another popular Android phone. If the court finds those devices are infringing Apple’s patents and irreparably harming the U.S. company, it could temporarily halt sales in the U.S. market even before the trial begins.

The latest accusation is part of a larger, epic struggle over patents and innovation in one of the most lucrative consumer electronics sectors that is unfolding in 10 countries.

The biggest stakes are in the U.S., the world’s largest smartphone market in 2011. Last month, a jury in the San Jose court found that Samsung had copied Apple’s design innovations and Samsung was ordered to pay Apple $1.05 billion. Samsung has vowed to appeal the verdict, all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary.

On Saturday, Samsung denounced Apple’s attempt to halt sales of the S III, which hit the 10 million global sales mark in July, less than three months after its release.

“Apple continues to resort to litigation over market competition in an effort to limit consumer choice,” Samsung said in a statement. “We will continue to take the necessary legal measures to ensure the availability of our innovative products in the United States.”

The strong sales of the S III were crucial in driving Samsung’s quarterly profit to a record high in the last quarter and helped it stay ahead in the worldwide smartphone market.

In documents filed with San Jose federal district court on Friday, Apple said 21 Samsung smartphones, media players and tablets released after August 2011 were “copycat products.”

“Rather than innovate and develop its own technology and a unique Samsung style for its smartphone and tablet computer products, Samsung has chosen to copy Apple’s technology, user interface, and innovative style,” Apple said in one document.

The Cupertino, California-based company claimed that Samsung is illegally using its eight patents. One patent is related to the way the device retrieves information in a computer system and another is about gestures on a touchscreen display to unlock a device.

Apple and Samsung are the world’s two largest smartphone makers and together they control over half of the global market. They are embroiled in similar legal tussles in Asia, Europe and the United States.

In April 2011, Apple first accused Samsung of illegally copying Apple’s design and technology in the smartphones powered by Google Inc.’s Android technology. Samsung countersued, arguing Apple’s iPhone and iPad used its wireless technology without permission.
