DIRECTIONS TO MAKE VEGETABLE CURRY
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. In a large, heavy skillet or pot, brown the onions in moderately hot oil along with the cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Add the Potato pieces (peeling is optional), and stir to coat each piece with the spices.
Now add the remaining spices and continue to stir for several minutes. Thin the tomato paste with about 2/3 cup of water. Stir into the pot.

Add vegetables, one at a time, cooking for a minute or so between each addition, and put in the cooked Chickpeas last.
If your pot is not oven proof, transfer mixture to one that is. Cover with a lid or seal with foil and bake for about 45 minutes, checking after the first 20 minutes.

The consistency should be rather thick, but add liquid if necessary to prevent burning. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Serve over rice or with Indian bread.
That's why if you prepare it with second-rate produce you can be disappointed. Use natural fresh fruit and vegetables and you'll be happily surprised.

3 gallons peanut oil for frying, or as needed
1 (12 pound) whole turkey, neck and giblets removed
1/4 cup Creole seasoning
1 white onion

In a large stockpot or turkey fryer, heat oil to 400 degrees F. Be sure to leave room for the turkey, or the oil will spill
over.

***** Side Note *****

How to determine the amount of oil you need:

The easiest way I've found to determine the amount of oil you need is to place the turkey into the fryer and fill with water until the turkey is just covered. Remove turkey and allow draining, patting dry with paper towels as well. Make note of the level of water in the fryer. Discard water and dry thoroughly. Fill frying vessel with oil to the level as noted above. This should help in preventing hot oil spill over’s.

***** End Side Note *****

Layer a large platter with food-safe paper bags. Rinse turkey, and thoroughly pat dry with paper towels. Rub Creole seasoning over turkey inside and out. Make sure the hole at the neck is open at least 2 inches so the oil can flow freely through the bird. Place the whole onion and turkey in drain basket. The turkey should be placed in basket neck end first. Slowly lower basket into hot oil to completely cover turkey. Maintain the temperature of the oil at 350 degrees F, and cook turkey for 3 1/2 minutes per pound, about 45 minutes. Carefully remove basket from oil, and drain turkey. Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh; the internal temperature must be 180 degrees F.

Finish draining turkey on the prepared platter.

Grilled Whole Turkey

12 pounds whole turkey
2 cups water
3 tablespoons chicken bouillon powder
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1/2 teaspoon chopped parsley
1 teaspoon paprika

Prepare an outdoor grill for indirect medium heat, and lightly oil grate. Rinse turkey, and pat dry. Place turkey breast side down on the prepared grill. Sear turkey on both sides until skin is golden to dark brown. In a large roasting pan, mix together the water, bouillon powder, garlic powder, onion powder, poultry seasoning, parsley, and paprika. Place turkey breast side down in the roasting pan. Scoop the pan mixture over the turkey. Cover tightly with foil and place on grill. Grill 3 to 4 hours, until the internal temperature of the thigh reaches 180F. Remove turkey from grill and let stand 15 minutes before carving.

Smoked Turkey

1 turkey 8 to 22 lbs., fresh or completely thawed
Sweet Pickle Brine (recipe to follow)
Maple syrup

Sweet Pickle Brine:

1 gal. water
2 1/2 cups salt, rock, pickling or canning salts are recommended
1/3 cup of light brown sugar
1 tablespoon Lquid garlic
1 oz. pickling spices

Mix well. You may need to adjust the amounts depending on the size of your bird. This recipe should suit you fine for an 8 to 12 lb. turkey.

Rinse turkey thoroughly with cold water, drain and pat dry. Prepare sweet pickle brine. Brine turkey according to the following schedule,
8 to 12 lb. bird 3 days, 13 to 16 lb. bird 4 days, 17 to 22 lb. bird 5 days. Remove from brine; rinse thoroughly in cold water and pat dry. Allow to dry in refrigerator for 24 hours.

Lock wings behind back and tie legs and tail together. Baste turkey with maple syrup before putting in smoker and every 2 hours while smoking. Position turkey on cooking grill. Smoke cook until done.

The best way to determine doneness is to insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the turkey (the breast) the internal temperature should read 180 degrees F.

Smoking food is more an art than a science; this recipe is not intended for the novice. Allot of factors go into determining the cooking time for a particular food when smoking.

Cool turkey in the refrigerator for 24 hours before serving to enhance the smoked flavor. You may serve the turkey right away if you wish.
Discussions about life, family matters, Italian politics and the world as a whole are quite popular during meal times when extended families sit for hours.

Italians love sitting down to eat with their immediate family, the whole process is different than that in England. There may be family members sitting around a table, but it’s not the same experience. Meal times are a fairly relaxed affair in Italy; there is no urge to eat your meal down as quickly as possible, to rush off to do something else. The food is brought to the table at a relaxed pace and eaten slowly; afterwards, of course, the family talk follows.

In case of a big family gathering, the preparations start hours in advance of the arrival of the first guest and continue till much later, as the hosts usually prepare much more food than needed. The event gets underway only when everyone arrives – it is like an un-written rule that until all the guests arrive and all food is prepared, no one gets in the mood to enjoy. Children, however, are an exception to this rule posted at mexicanfoodsrecipes.com, as they tend to get past watchful eyes of adults, and pinch salami and cheese from the table.

Finally, when you do sit down for the meal, it is a very long, relaxed and drawn out process. Generally, Italians can sit down to a ten-course meal, eaten for over three hours pointed out by italianfood-recipes.com. There will be more courses if the family gathering is bigger, as everyone usually brings something with them to add to the table - a good traditional homemade Italian food. The courses are generally rather small and are usually served on large platters in the center of the table, within easy reach of everyone at rentbarcelonaapartment.co.uk/planning_europe_vacation.htm. If you are new to this experience; remember, not too get so full on the fist few courses that you regret not having space for another course further down the line.

There is never ever anything like a quiet Italian dinner table something is always going on! The older men sit at the head of the table discussing the old days, the women usually rush back and to from the kitchen with more trays of food, the younger generation, compete to be heard when all sit around the center of the table discussing the state of the world and the children do all that children normally do.

Even as the meal reaches it’s grand finale, most members stays around the table with conversations going on for hours, or maybe a game or two of scopa. The event gets underway only when everyone arrives – it is like an un-written rule that until all the guests arrive and all food is prepared at Chinese website chinesefoodsrecipes.com, no one gets in the mood to enjoy. Children, however, are an exception to this rule, as they tend to get past watchful eyes of adults, and pinch salami and cheese from the table. A traditional Italian card game – though a few people may saunter off to relax!
I came across several brands, but it seemed to me that Presto had the largest variety to choose from at decent prices. Here's what they have:

Presto Electric Skillet 11 Inch
Presto Electric Skillet 16 Inch
Presto 12 Inch Electric Stainless Steel Skillet
Presto Electric Skillet 16 Inch with Glass Cover

They are all very nice looking but the one that interests me the most is the 12 Ince Stainless Steel. The first reason is because it is shiny and I love shiny things, my personal opinion is that it looks more expensive and attractive than the others, but it doesn't matter about that when your cooking...anyway it has such a smooth surface, the food just slips and slides with ease no sticking! Also, because it is stainless steel, I don't have to worry about that nonstick stuff flaking off in my food and while washing. It even says in the description that it is fully immersible with the heat control removed and dishwasher safe, easy to take care of. It fries, grills, roasts, stews, bakes, makes casseroles and one-dish meals (with your help of course...). This particular one that impressed me because it has a glass cover so that I can keep an eye on it easier than needing to lift the lid every time. The Control Master heat control keeps accurate cooking temperatures automatically, Neato!

I also found that Presto makes a cookbook that is called Presto Eclectic Electric Skillet Cookbook (that name is easy enough to remember, by the way I bought it). It has well over 200 different recipes and one of my favorites English Trifle! Here is the recipe if you want it:

English Trifle

Ingredients:

1/2 cup sugar

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1/8 teaspoon salt

2 cups half and half or milk

3 egg yolks, beaten

1/2 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract

3/4 cup sliced almonds

1 10 and 3/4 ounce frozen pound cake, thawed

1/2 cup almond flavor liqueur

2/3 cup raspberry preserves

1 cup whipping cream

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1/4 teaspoon vanilla

Mix sugar, flour, and salt in skillet. Stir in half and half gradually until blended; cook at 200 degrees until thickened, about 4 minutes, stirring constantly. stir about 1/2 cup half and half mixture into egg yolks. stir yolk mixture into skillet; cook until thickened, about 4 minutes, stirring constantly. stir in vanilla. remove cream mixture to bowl; cool to room temperature, stirring occasionally. Refrigerate until chilled, about 2 hours. Clean skillet.

Heat skillet at 300 degrees. Add almonds; heat until almonds begin to brown, stirring occasionally. Remove and reserve.

Cut pound cake lengthwise into halves; cut into 1/2 inch slices. Arrange half the cake slices on bottom of straight-sided glass bowl or souffle dish, cutting pieves, if necessary, to fill spaces. Sprinkle cake with 1/4 cup liqueur; spread with 1/3 cup preserves and 1 cup cream mixture. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup almonds. Repeat layers, reserving remaining 1/4 cup almonds. Refrigerate, covered, 4 hours or overnight.

Whip cream until stiff peaks form, gradually adding powdered sugar and vanilla. Spread over trifle; sprinkle with reserved 1/4 cup almonds.

Makes 6 to 8 servings.

I did not think of it until now, but if you are looking to purchase a skillet also and you want this book you may want to buy an eleven inch because that is what the recipes in the Presto Eclectic Electric Skillet Cookbook were tested in. Just a thought if you don't want too large of a pan for the recipes, I am going to get the 12 inch stainless steel presto skillet, one inch shouldn't matter too much. I'm so excited!

guide to choosing an electric skillet

No matter where you are, an electric skillet is a helpful tool for preparing meals. You don't need to be a genius in the kitchen to use it. It comes handy in many situations. You can use it to prepare a meal or create sauces quickly. With so many uses, it is important to choose the right electric skillet for the job. This article offers some tips to choose from many different types and brand of skillets.

On the top of the list is usefulness. Do you want something portable? Maybe sometimes you want to cook without a cooking stove. What are you going to use it for? Just by starting with a few questions will narrow down the amount of choices tremendously. For example, if portability is important, electric skillet is more suitable for you.

You can use it anywhere you want as long as there is an electric outlet nearby. Also very convenient for outdoor use. Constantly worrying about the level of burner is now part of the past. You can be sure that your food is ready and warm when you want it. Due to its size, many people who have concern about space tend to choose it.

Next thing is the lid feature. Glass lid enables you to check the food anytime without constantly pulling off the lid. That means it doesn't lose any heat. No need to guess whether it's time to season now or two minutes later. Fold-down stand and heat resistant are two other important features for the lid.

The materials and construction method also very greatly. Cast iron is still popular, but now most pans use aluminium and stainless steel. The latter is not as good head conductor. However, stainless products tend to last longer because they do not corrode easily. As a better conductor, aluminium can heat quicker but it needs to have nonstick covering to prevent acidic food reaction.

Teflon pans or electric skillets are popular. For certain foods, you don't even need to grease the electric skillet upfront. You can find Teflon skillets with varying prices. Cleaning is also easy with these pans. When using Teflon pan, you should be aware of this, though. Always handle them carefully and avoid any scraping and scorching. Scraped Teflon is very toxic.

Finally, for some people, design is not something to be taken lightly. Modern skillet is attractive enough that it does support the kitchen interior design. It may also be a good idea to choose a model that has a rack storage.

You can browse through a few dozens of choices quickly just by hooking up to the Internet. It does save time but care should be taken because not all sites offer the best deal. Not to mention that you cannot trust every review that you find online.

Where to Find The Best Skillet Recipes

Skillet recipes! Skillet recipes!! Skillet recipes!!! Everyone is looking everywhere for skillet recipes. We all want to make those cool meals that will turn everyone into Oliver Twist who always asks for more; we all want to feel the shrill and thrill of being applauded by family and friends for making a meal that they probably have not tasted anywhere before.

That may not even be the case for some of us. The thing is, we are tired of all those boring old skillet recipes, we want something new and fresh, something uncommon, something not a lot of people out there know; maybe something only master chefs and cooks in top restaurants know. So we end up daily online, looking for the best skillet recipes or maybe I should say 'The newest skillet recipes'.

So where can you find those skillet recipes? As a matter of fact, you know these recipes can be found online, at least, that's the place where information lives these days. While there are TV shows such as 'License to Grill', we may not be able to settle for that alone. However, most sites online have shallow skillet recipes; most of the time, they are the same recipes that we know that are on these sites. We always need a site that is frequently updated with the latest skillet recipes around. So I decided to shop around online to see if I can gather a few of them.

Go Presto Skillet Recipes - If you are using a Presto electric skillet, then one of the places to find the best skillet recipes is the Presto official site. You will find recipes for Barbecues, Beef Stroganoff, Chicken Chow Mein, Chicken-Vegetable Pitas, English Brown Stew, Fried Chicken, Oriental Hamburger Casserole, Roasts from beef or pork, Roast Chicken, Sesame-Ginger Vegetables, Sweet and Sour Pork and more. These recipes are frequently being updated and you are likely going to have a lot to handle before you exhaust all the recipes on this site and by the time you are done, there will be new skillet recipes for you to deal with.

The FoodNetwork - The Food Network is also another site I run to when I run short of healthy and really amazing skillet recipes. They have hundreds of skillet recipes to keep you busy for a whole year round. These are not common recipes. You will be amazed at them. They are uncommon and yet they are very easy to carry out. These are not impossible recipes that will mess you up after spending hours to actualize it. These are recipes that are just going to reveal your expertise. You can check out this site to see some of the recipes on board.
Cooks.com - Now I respect this site a lot because of the number of skillet recipes on the site. If you are able to manage through the first two websites and you are still hungry for more recipes, I bet you will be stuck in cooks.com. There are maybe thousands of skillet recipes for every occasion and every need.

With all the above set in place, you are set to get the job done. Here is the procedure.

First, wash up the beans. Have them soaked in about 6 cups of cold water overnight. Some beans have package directions. You can follow the directions too. After this, drain up the water. The next thing is to cook the salted pork in your presto electric skillet or Dutch oven until it has turned to very crispy in form. After this is achieved, you will want to add up garlic and onions. Cook and stir the mixture until it becomes limp.

After this, add pork bits and the beef and cook gently until it turns brown. You will need to keep stirring to achieve best results. After this, mix in all the remaining ingredients safe the tomato juice only. Cover the mixture up and allow simmering for a while just for the meat and the beans to become very tender. After this, you can add the tomato juice bit by bit. Do not forget that the chili should be moist but not wet. It should remain moist by the time the cooking is finished too. Taste periodically and adjust the seasoning if there be need for such.

With the above ingredients in place, you can set out. First, heat one tablespoon of olive oil in your presto 11 electric skillet or any medium saucepan you have. After this, add the onion and the garlic. Cook them mildly for about 5 minutes for the flavor to start rising. Keep stirring all through. After this, add tomatoes, the tomato paste, the spaghetti sauce and the mix them all together with water. Do not forget that you will have to break any large piece of tomato. Make sure it boils. Afterwards, turn down the heat, cover the skillet and allow it to simmer for about 20 minutes.

After this, you will have to cook the manicotti shells by boiling them in salted water for about 7 minutes. Drain it. Remove the stems from the spinach and get the leaves washed. Add just about enough water to make 2 cups. After this, heat one tablespoon of oil in your presto electric skillet or any other electric skillet you have. Add the ground beef and the green pepper. Get them friend until the meat is browned up. Continue to stir. After this, remove the heat. Drain excess fat from it and have it cooled. After this, you can toss the meat, the cheese cubes, the chopped spinach and egg together while you mix them all up with a fork.

Heat the oven to about 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Get a baking dish of dimensions 30.5x20.5x5-cm ready. Put about 3/4th of the tomato into the baking dish and lay the stuffed manicotti in the sauce. Pour the remaining sauce over the mixture. Sprinkle the parmesan cheese over. Finally, cook it all in the water with the spinach clinging to each leave until it wilts. The electric skillet is an advanced frying pan and so many features has been added to it to make it much easier cooking, frying and even making mini grills in your home.

There are basically many types of frying pans that has been before now and probably will be after now, it is little wonder to see people choosing the skillet over every of those pans. Unlike the conventional frying pan which tears away at everything you have to fry with it and in the end, you waste time trying to wash it clean, the skillet is made non-stick materials and this means whatever you put in is what you get, with no bit of it stuck to the pan. This also ensures that you can easily wash your skillet after use; besides, they are machine wash friendly.

Cooking with an electric skillet is a smart way of showcasing your skills as a cook; whether you want to fry or you want to make grills, the skillet can be a very handy companion at showing how good you are at what you do. Foods cooked in the skillet have their flavor preserved by the seal tight transparent lids that makes it easy for you to see what is going on inside while ensuring no flavor is lost.

Apart from cooking with an electric skillet in the home, you can also use it outside during family gatherings. Being powered by electricity, it is easy to just plug and cook. After cooking, it will fit nicely on the buffet table without looking odd. I bet you can’t do that with most pans. Warming foods with the skillet takes the speed of the sound, before you blink, the food is warmed. This is ensured by the internal heating system that ensures that heat is evenly distributed in the skillet thereby making your food hot but not getting it burnt.

Whether for campfire cooking or the in-house cooking, the skillet is there. It has stay-cool handles which ensures your hands doesn’t get burnt. You can chose from 11 inches skillet just like the Presto 11 electric skillet, 12 inches, 16 inches and more depending on how big you want it. You can find skillets at cheaper prices if you shop online.

Cooking with electric skillet is a smart way of treating your family to nothing but the best. Once you have gotten one, you will wonder what you have been cooking without a skillet.

WHY DO I NEED TO BUY AN ELECTRIC SKILLET

Electric skillets are gradually taking over and if you are not using one, you are probably missing a whole lot of the fun that could be caught in the kitchen place. With every day that passes by, people are looking for ways to make life easier and the skillet is just a tool that could make cooking easier. But before I answer the question “why do I need to use an electric skillet?”, let’s throw light on what a skillet is.

An electric skillet can simply be referred to as an electric frying pan. Unlike the conventional frying pan that needs heat from an external source such as the gas cooker or stove, the electric skillet generates its own heat from the inside via electricity. Now these skillets are better than conventional frying pans for so many reasons. The reasons I believe will answer the question “why do I need to use an electric skillet” effectively.

• Electric skillets are non-stick: This is one thing that is common with traditional frying pans. Whatever you fry in them get stuck to the bottom of the pan and you will have to wash hard before you can get those things off. Over time, these marks actually stick to the frying pan. In the case of electric skillets, they are non-stick and that means whatever you fry in them does not leave traces. Immediately after frying, just wash your skillet normally and that’s all.

• Cool for outdoor cooking: Now you cannot bring that frying pan with your gas outside, it does not make any sense but you can do that with electric skillets. Most skillets such as the Presto 11 electric skillet is stainless steel and can be used outside without causing respiratory problems for the smoke. They are also good when you have to go camping.

• Money saver: Electric skillets use minimal energy and unlike the ovens and grills that take a great deal of electricity to power. With the electric skillet, you can do mini grills any time you want without bothering about skyrocketed bills.

• Looks good on the buffet table: These skillets are cute and they can stay on the buffet table with ease. These kitchen wares can actually take any condition you put them in; whether it is the kitchen or the dining table.

If your question was “why do I need to use an electric skillet?” I believe you already got the answer. You can find these skillet online at very competitive prices.

BEFORE YOU BUY AN ELECTRIC SKILLET

Are you contemplating on buying an electric skillet but you do not know how to go about it? There are really a couple of things you should know before you buy an electric skillet. Every skillet is supposed to serve a purpose and that is to make preparation of fries, grills and even meals easier to cook. Therefore, you cannot afford to make a wrong choice. Since not all skillets are from the same maker, they also do not have the same qualities. Here are a couple of things you should note before you buy an electric skillet.

The Lid

The lid design of different skillet brands varies. You should look out for a skillet that has enough room for you to see what is going on inside the skillet so as to be sure nothing is getting burnt. This will go a long way in helping you minimize how much you open the skillet lid.

The design of the Body

A dishwasher safe skillet should be one that you opt for if you hate dealing with dishes. Most skillet brands are dishwasher safe but to be on a safer side, be sure to check out for ones that are dishwasher safe before buying. Then you should check out to see if they have non-stick coating so that cleaning it will not be a war. A warming function is also what you may want to check out for; just in case you want to warm your food.

The cooking features

Before you buy an electric skillet, it is very mandatory that you run over the temperature controls to know how they work. There is no point buying a skillet that cannot warm your food for you in minutes. The more heat a skillet can generate, the faster it will be able to warm up food and even get them cooked. Also, you may want to check for even heat distribution to be sure that heat is evenly distributed throughout the base of the skillet as this is the only guarantee that foods is properly cooked up.

The Capacity

A skillet should not be too small, neither should it be too big. It should have moderate size that can fit in into your kitchen and at the same time can stand on dining table.

All these thing should be checked before you buy an electric skillet. It is better to be safe than sorry.

PRESTO 11 ELECTRIC SKILLET

The Presto company are producers of nothing but state of the art and quality kitchen wares and have earned so many rave reviews for their top quality and durable products.
