If you intend on studying either Duffy or Wilde for your dissertation, you are able to, but will need to choose works other than these (in order to satisfy the SQA’s requirements).

Apart from a few spits of rain, the weather was excellent, as was the behaviour and enthusiasm of all the pupils. At both venues they got a chance to dress up in medieval armour and clothing, including chain mail which weighed a ton (well… that’s what it felt like!) The pupils learned many interesting facts about life during the times of the Scottish Wars of Independence and showed a keen interest by asking loads of questions.

I would like to congratulate the pupils for giving such a good image of the school, and the other members of staff for their help in accompanying this trip. A special award goes to the pupils who had to sit beside a teacher on the coach! This was a great way to end S1 History in 2009 - roll on The Stirling Invasion, 2010!

As part of our One Scotland unit 2GR2 (new 3GR2) had an adventure out to Edinburgh to investigate social diversity. After logging the age, gender and ethnic background of shoppers in the Princes Mall we undertook detailed research through questionnaires of willing volunteers.

We managed to talk to 36 people, from 14 different countries of origin, and 9 different religions, about their views of how tolerant Scotland is. We asked them about how open Scottish people were to foreigners as well as how racist/sexist/homophobic/ageist Scotland is. Overall we found that most people think Scotland is an open-minded and tolerant society and open to different types of people. Hooray!

We are happy to report Miss Johnson and the Standard Grade class had an excellent trip over to Glasgow. We explored the Cathedral (dead bodies and all) and St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art (it’s a lot cooler than it sounds!)

The class were model pupils and did admirably in the surprise quiz that was put on them, and the rest of the train coach, on the way home. A thoroughly enjoyable day out.

Again the pupils were brilliantly behaved and were a credit to PLHS !

The actress who led the session was very impresssed by the pupils attitude and behaviour which she described as ‘excellent’. (In fact she came in on her day off to host this session because she had been so impressed by last years S3 group too !).

  Bienvenue à Preston Lodge!

Notre collège se situe à Prestonpans, à environ 15 kilomètres à l’est d’Edimbourg. Il y a environ 1000 élèves et 100 employés. L’âge des élèves varie entre 12 et 17 ans. Le collège compte des élèves de Prestonpans, Port Seton, Cockenzie, et Longniddry. L’établissement se situe près de la plage et offre une vue imprenable sur l’estuaire de la rivière Forth, Edimbourg et la côte. Les élèves étudient differents sujets comme l’art ou la physique en passant par l’allemand ou l’EPS. Il y a aussi de nombreux clubs notament celui d’art dramatique ainsi que le club de percussion africaine. Il y a aussi le hockey, le rugby, les chorales, le club de photographie, le big band et le badminton.
 

Nous avons trois maisons dans le collège : Gosford, Grange et Seton qui sont en compétition les unes contre les autres dans les matières académiques mais également en sport ou d’autres évènements pluridisciplinaires. Tout en parlant anglais, certains de nos élèves parlent plus de vingt autres langues chez eux en tant que langue maternelle. C’est une diversité que nous avons décider de fêter !

  Welcome to Preston Lodge High School!

Our school is situated in Prestonpans about 12 miles east of Edinburgh. We have around 1000 pupils and 100 staff.  The pupils range in ages from 12 to 17. We have students from Prestonpans, Port Seton, Cockenzie and Longniddry. The school campus is situated really near the beach with amazing views over the Firth of Forth, Edinburgh and along the coastline. Pupils learn many different subjects from Art to Physics and from German to P.E. There are also many clubs including Drama, African Percussion group, Hockey, Football, Rugby, Senior and Junior Choirs, Photography, Big Band and Badminton.  We have three school houses:  Gosford, Grange and Seton which compete against each other academically and in many other sporting and extra-curricular events. As well as English some of our pupils speak over twenty other languages at home as their first language. We think this is something to be celebrated!

Apologies for the lack of ELP diaries over the last two weeks. This is due to Mrs Binnie being appointed Acting Principal Teacher Pastoral until the summer holidays to cover for Mr Main, who is now Acting Deputy Head.

However, there are some important dates we would still like to take the very quick opportunity of reminding you of…

May 27th 2009 - last day of the extra sports at Moray House

May 28th 2009 - school concert in the evening (if your child is involved you will already have had the letter home)

June 1st 2009 - provisional date for change of timetable but this is still provisional - we will keep you up to date

June 5th-7th - rewards weekend for outstanding effort by winning S2 pupils - those involved have already been contacted. Well done!

June 22-26th 2009 - Activities Week. More details will be sent to you in due course about the planned trips. Parents should be aware that there has been no booking form this year as the format of Activities Week has changed.

The finale will see them competing in creating a dish of their own choice. Looking forward to the results. The winners will hopefully represent the school in the East Lothian Food festival schools competition in September

On the 29 we went to the Motorcycle Project at Haddington just off the High Street.  When we arrived we were introduced to everyone.  We then played some games before we went outside for a tour of the buildings and to see where the bikes and equipment were kept.  We had great fun sitting on the bikes and getting kitted up.  After that we played more games outside before we had some lunch.  Shortly after lunch we travelled back to the school in the minibus.  I really enjoyed my trip to see the motorbikes and found it very interesting.  I have now visited the Motorcycle Project twp times and I would to go back again.

we meet Linsey and Rowin and in the furst weet we got iwer gerr on.  and week 2 we went to the track

We all went to the bridgeside centre on Wednesdays with our pack lunch.  there are 2 people what take it  All we have done is games and went on the motorbikings  it was fun

We got the minibus and we met rowan went round.  When the Motor Bike centre.  We meet Rowan and Linsey  We played some games and started on the rolling road

first week   moterbiking got geared up and sat on a bike   second week we went on the bikes I done an incredible Jump in mid air with the bike and I landed it.  the third week i got the hang of the motorbike.  we metmen call Linsay and Rowan

First Week

On the first week we explored the aria and make banna and hot choclate, the second week we cut down trees, and then made hot dogs, the forth week we made a shelter and played games, and we carved wood and helped burn rope.

Forest School Programe

On the first week we expord the aria and mak bannas and Hot choclet. The second week cutting trees down and then mad hot dogs. The four week we mad sheater and payed games and carvend and then made march mals.

We cut done trees and clened up the phafe we cooked bhaps and choclate and we yous Bo Soard and lopers to cren up the pach.

The favourite part of the day at Forest Schools was when we played a game in the field. And it was okay when we the part I did not like when was it was raining and

We went to this wood calld buttrden wood and we got told to go and chek it out then we had lunch then mor cheking it out it was a fun first day. The second time we went we were cutting down trees to mack the path bigger. I like it when we all work as a grop I don’t like it when have to go

We bult a hut and cooked marshmallows on a stick. We also done some carving and made our fire. The first time I went we had a look around so we no our bounderys.

I Liked forest schools because I was with ma mates. The best thing was when I helped the boys make a hute. I didn’t like the hotdogs because they are not the nice. We cut down trees and used lots of Tools.

I dident enjoy when I dident fell well :$ I like it best when we cooking we cooked, chopped down trees, and learnt stuff about the woods and stuff

This is how some scientists, who specialise in studying dinosaurs, think prehistoric turtles would have looked like. They are quite similar to modern turtles in many ways but perhaps have more protection on their bodies to save them from the vicious predators that roamed the planet millions of years ago…

One of these creatures left clues to its life for us to find, all these years later when it deposited THIS on a beach or riverbank a long time ago…

It may look like something your friendly neighbourhood pooch has left on a pavement somewhere - but it is different in so many ways!

This poo is as hard as stone, in fact in so many ways it IS a stone. If you touch it, it is hard and cold. It has no smell. It cannot be compressed. It is the fossil of a turtle dropping from the time of the dinosaurs - and from it the scientists can find out a lot. Mr Kiernan brought one of these turtle fossils into class for us to look at. He also brought a number of other interesting remains that had been turned into fossils at the bottom of the sea, rivers or deserts…

We had the opportunity to look and touch fossils including:

• fossilised iguanadon egg shells
• prehistoric shark teeth (from megalodons)
• hairy mammoth tusk
• dinosaur back bone discs
• fossilised anenomes
• fossilised ammonites - which look like big swirly snail shells and belonged to animals who lived in the sea
• trilobites - which were like giant woodlice!

It was amazing to think that these things were around in the times of the dinosaur - how amazing to think that we were seeing and touching some of the things they saw, did and had.

This week we will be working hard in the build up to Open Day! Our dinosaur project is coming along well and this morning we had a special visitor to our science class…

ELP Science

In ELP Science this morning, we were visited by Mr Kiernan, who is something of an expert in fossils! He brought with him his boxes and bags of goodies - full of fossilised remains from dinosaurs, their eggs and even their fossilised poo!

ELP Gardening

We are moving our ELP Veggie Deliveries to a Thursday from this week onwards. Expect to see our smiling faces bringing lovely summer fruits and veg to your classroom doors during Period 2.

ELP Maths

We are continuing to work on our number, money and time. This week we will practise finding the missing number or predicting the missing number in a simple sequence. We will be working really hard on our quarter pasts and quarter tos. We may be taking a lovely stroll to see Robyn in her new job - and practise spending some money (on juice!)

ELP Social Studies

Dinosaurs rule again this week as we continue our work for Open Day - making book covers for our own Lost World exhibition, finishing off our Mrs T Rex model and making a start on our dinosaur landscape. Mr Kiernan has offered to lend us some of his fossils for Open Day so that we can put on a Fossil Exhibition…

ELP PE

This week the children will be out of school twice for extra PE. On Wednesday they will be going to Edinburgh fo extra swimming with the PE teacher students at Moray House and on Thursday they will be going up to Meadowmill to take part in their annual SPORTS DAY!

These photos show Larissa, Lauren and Kieran handing over a  cheque to Julie Aitken from Harlawhill. Julie was delighted to receive this cheque which would be used to take a group of elderly people on a day trip. Julie expressed  her thanks and she  said how kind, and considerate,  the PLHS pupils were. Mr Galbraith, who was soon to retire, was able to accept the cheque on behalf of Help the Aged !!

Well done S3 F/G - an excellent example of citizenship and enterprise !

Initially pupils investigated ideas on the internet, looking at different breakfasts in various countries. They then tried some of the ideas within class time. Pupils were then put into pairs/groups to work on developing the ones they decided they liked most. Ideas included baked doughnuts, fruity crepes, a variety of fruity drinks.smoothies/mooless,variations of french toast and welsh rarebit.

Staff were then invited to sample the dishes and decide on the entries we would send off as part of the national competition. 3 dishes were chosen from a very high standard.

The winning dishes were :-

Toffee Apple & Raspberry porridge with honey & greek yogurt drizzle, plus a refreshing fruit smoothie - created by Blair Forlow - S4

Hawaiian tropical crepes with mango coulis, coconut cream and crshed pineapple- with Morning Caribbean mooless- created by Hannah Burns - S4

Egg stuffed baked tomatoes with welsh rarebit topping, asparagus and tomato accompaniments followed by Berry stuffed frech brioche with poached peaches and a Merry berry smoothie on the side. - created by Lee Sneddon

A great effort by all pupils involved. They seemed to enjoy the challenge and using their own recipes to achieve such good results.

We went camping on the 23rd of May.  We went to Cranshaws.  We had to walk 8 miles to get there, it was good.  Every 2 mile we stopped for a break and had something to eat and drink.  When we finally got there we set up the tent and mucked about for a few hours and then made some food and after we had a game of rugby.  When it got dark we got a game of hide and seek for the rest of the night and every two games we heated up marshmellows and went back for another game.

In the morning we packed everything away and made some breakfast and left.  When we left we went somewhere to go gorge walking it was great fun we were absolutely soaking and had no change of clothes.

Mrs Kazimoglu from the art department has been an inspiration in helping us make life-size paintings which shall be revealed at the One Scotland event.

Welcome back to school after your Easter break - everyone in the Learning Zone hopes you return fresh and rested in preparation for the coming term.

This first week back will be one of consolidation in many subjects. What can we recall from before the break? Which things do we need to re-visit or practise?

In Maths this will mean looking at money, number and time.

In Social Studies this will involve remembering lots of interesting things about dinosaurs, prehistoric times and the plot of our special book, The Lost World.

In Gardening we will be making our “Fruit and Vegetable Alphabet”…

In Science we will be starting a new topic! We will spend this term exploring the world of the dinosaur from a scientific perspective. We will look at lots of different ideas about how dinosaurs may have died out. We will consider which dinosaurs are similar to animals that may still be around today. (Have you ever thought how primitive a crocodile looks? Could an elephant be a Hairy Mammoth without its fur coat on? Are some birds (or bats or even flying squirrels) a teeny weeny bit like a pterodactyl?) We will be doing some work investigating all of these ideas over the coming weeks…

We will also be looking at how animals change sometimes to suit their environment. What animals do or have done this?

Examples of the basic adaptations that help animals survive:

• shape of a bird’s beak,
• the number of fingers,
• colour of the fur,
• the thickness or thinness of the fur,
• the shape of the nose or ears

Can you think which one of these adaptations a Polar Bear or Arctic Fox may have undergone to survive in the snowy north?

In PE we will be continuing with our badminton lessons.

In Art we will be making lovely paintings of fish.

And, speaking of fish, we will be making sure that our two new class pets, HB and Rainbow, have survived the rigours of their first school holiday living on feeding tablets instead of being hand fed by lovely smiley pupils with tasty fish food (as they are during term time)!

Each pupil cooked their dish and these were judged by Mrs Hogg and the Canteen supervisor.

The competition was very stiff, but by a small margin it was won by Kieran Wilson with his healthy cheesy pasta.

All the dishes are currently being analysed for dietary content and it is hoped will be featuring on the canteen menu.

All the candidates will receive a Silver award certificate. Well done to them all.

This week is the last week of term and we will finish on Friday at 12 noon for our annual Easter holidays. Everyone is excited and looking forward to their break - and hoping that the sun will shine for at least some of the time…

This week we will still be working hard in class and preparing for Parents Evening on Wednesday night. We are keen to show our Mums and Dads some of the exciting things we have done this term and show off many of our fabulous pieces of work. These will be found in the Learning Zone on the evening.

ELP Maths

This week in ELP Maths we will continue to consolidate our numbers 1-20, times (o’clock, half past, quarter past) and try out our new time (quarter to) again. We will use a variety of resources to undertake this work, including time dominoes, time card games and our number lines.

ELP Science

In ELP Science we are looking at the skin and considering how our bodies tell us there is something wrong. What signs are there that our skin is damaged or hurt? We will consider a number of ideas and terms including:

• pain
• scabs
• cuts
• sores
• burns
• itching
• spots
• rashes
• skin conditions

ELP Social Studies

Mrs B, Mrs T (Rex) and the dinosaurs will be exploring the scary world of the Tyrannosaurus Rex. This will include our T Rex model project - making a giant model of The Lost World for display in the front hall at Open Day in May.

Recycling the rubbish - this week we will be looking at how we can use old Christmas and birthday cards in two ways. One will be to make a lovely garden related collage for our classroom wall, the other is to make our own papyrus for writing on…it might look a bit like this

The S1 history course features a unit on archaeology so it was really exciting when Natasha- an archaeologist at Glasgow University- came into the dept to work with classes. She brought in many artifacts such as coins, buttons, musket balls and even a cannon ball - all of which were over 300 hundred years old. Pupils were shown how an archaeologist dates and records such artifacts and then they had the opportunity to handle, and record, the artifacts for themselves. Everyone got a real kick out of handling 300 year old items. The sessions were enjoyed by everyone . Natasha also said how great it had been to work with pupils at PLHS and how she would like to come back to work with other classes in the future. The dept also hopes to take pupils up to the site of the Battle of Prestonpans where Natasha and other archaeologists are excavating that site. It is  also funny to think that PLHS was built on part of the site of the battlefield. Not many schools can say that !

The S3 G/C history class have been studying the topic of Womens Rights. They had to research the arguments FOR women being given the franchise : women were responsible citizens who had to abide by laws they could not have any influence over, women paid tax but had no parliamentary repersentatives;male criminals and drunkards could vote but all women could not ! Then the class researched the arguments AGAINST women’s suffrage : women were inferior -the Bible said so; women could not think for themselves and women would be easily swayed by handsome man !

The final task was a debate - Suffrage or Not in 1900 ! As you can see the debate  became VERY heated as pupils argued their case (even the token sexist boys who had to argue in favour of womens rights !!!)

The result - a vote in  which 97% of the class said women should have the vote - the dissenters …..THE BOYS !!!!!

This week in Gardening and Science we have taken the opportunity to look at a process that relates well to our investigations into birth, growth, puberty and reproduction (Science) but also is extremely relevant to our work in the garden to try and ensure we encourage “helpful insects” that pollinate plants (See “Be Good To Bees” post for more information)…

The life cycle of the butterfly is a process that the children were readily able to explain as simple fairytale-like stories (some even related it to the tale of the Ugly Duckling). Their obvious prior knowledge of the famous Eric Carle book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” was a huge support in tackling the concept.

We told lovely tales of how the mother butterfly lays eggs on leaves, these eggs hatch and a baby caterpillar emerges and eats the egg shell. Excitedly we spoke of how the caterpillar is something of a “gannet” and goes on to eat and eat and eat - and as it grows and grows and grows, gets too big for its “clothes”! At last, we were told, the caterpillar gets so big it wants to go to sleep and does so in a special bed. We were delighted that the children were able to confidently call this bed a cacoon. One pupil excelled, telling us they knew the correct term was a “chrysalis”. After his sleep, the caterpillar wakes up. However, during his nap he has somehow turned into a beautiful butterfly!

We made stunning model butterflies and placed them on a wall poster to show everyone else what we know about their life cycles. Please feel free to come and have a look!

Finally, we spoke about other animals who go to sleep for extended periods of time. One pupil had asked if the chrysalis stage of the cycle was like a bear hibernating and so we expanded on that lovely question to work out for ourselves if they were the same thing…or something quite different. The animals we considered as sleepy heads included:

• bears
• hedgehogs
• squirrels
• snakes
• some small rodents
• tortoises

We know what we think about whether this cute little furry friend is sleeping for the same reasons as a caterpillar in a chrysalis - but what do you think?

We are delighted to be able to record the most wonderful achievement by one of our pupils, Dale.

Such is his modesty, that he has not publicised his achievement in any shape or form. This touching humility is nonetheless typical of him.

The whole school award for the Most Improved Rugby Player in 2008-09 was presented recently to Dale at the school Sport Personality of the Year Awards, is now in his possession - and we are all absolutely delighted for him. We know that his mainstream PE teacher, Mrs Pike, is rightly proud of him too.

Well done, Dale. We have always known that you are just champion - and now you have the silverware to prove it!

The Higher/Int 2 class were given the opportunity to examine their work and to vote on the winning party.   2C included parties such as Ryu Tatsu, John Bunsen, Space Bunnys, Big Fish/Little Fish, Bunny Suicide Party MGWNN and Heads and Tails.   The winners were John Bunsen with a very interesting photo as part of their power point.   2A included The Happy Hardcore Heeds, The Scottish Bomber Association, The Kissables, Scottish Dream, Forks, Democratical Bananas and the Jellybabies.   The winners were The Forks who used the lure of marshmallows to appeal for floating voters!

Lots of great fun active learning!!!   Can’t wait to see what the next S2 block come up with!!!

Pupils entered as part of the level 1 Bronze award, with ideas for using Local Produce and Hearty Soups. They had to consider healthy eating, food selection, planning, cooking and presentation. They also had to ensure safe and hygienic working practices.

The eventual winners were Courtney for the Hearty Soups section and Sam for the Local Produce section.

The army made two visits to Preston Lodge this month. They gave the SVS pupils a chance to take part in a number of ‘Command Tasks’ and then allowed a question and answer session in the Learning Zone. They were well received and gave the students a realistic view of what they could expect from life in the armed forces. Thanks to all those involved, and especially those students who really pushed themselves.

Enthusiastic young chef Lee Sneddon received a framed certificate and a Gift Voucher for £25 when he won the Longniddry and District Rotary Club’s Young Chef competition held at Preston Lodge School on the 14^th January. The runner up was Sean Gaffney who also received a framed certificate and a gift voucher for £20.

The competition, which was entered by three girls and three boys, was judged by John Cleary who provides the catering at Craigielaw Golf Club and Hilary Cochran from Knowes Farm and Shop who also presented the awards to the winner and runner up respectively. President Peter Wood presented all the entrants with certificates, recognising their participation.

The organisers, the Club’s Youth Opportunities team chaired by convener Charles Simpson, appreciated the feedback from the Preston Lodge teaching staff that the pupils had enjoyed the experience, which they felt, was a genuine competition.

The event is part of a Rotary District 1020 initiative to encourage the development of life skills and the next stage is the zone competition at which the winners from Penicuik and Dunbar High Schools will compete with the Preston Lodge winner at Preston Lodge in early February

At the school we currently run core programme sports such as Football, Rugby, Basketball, Badminton and Hockey. We Also have had clubs for Dance mats and Cheerleading this year. We are looking to expand and get as many coaches and volunteers who are willing to help the school maintain and expand our current programme.

We are introducing Table-Tennis, Volleyball and Rugby Fitness this term, but also trying to introduce Dance, Girls fitness etc.

The classes will be on either Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on when most pupils can attend. Classes will cost £2 and will need to be paid in a block. This morning at 8:30am GMT, the world’s largest and one of the most important physics experiments was switched on. The Large Hadron Collider, situated on the Swiss/Franco border, near Geneva, and found 100m underground, the 27km long circular tube began accelerating small particles of matter to speeds close to the speed of light. Two beams of protons are fired in opposite through a vacuum at temperatures colder than those found in deep space. It’ll take about a month for them to reach the speeds wanted before they allow the two beams to overlap, and let the protons collide - at these high energies, it is hoped that a new particle will be discovered - the Higgs Boson.

After about 40 years of colliding protons elsewhere in the world, the existence of the ‘God particle’ has still not been confirmed - now, on a much larger scale, physicists believe that they will be found. If they are, it’ll prove many theories that are surround physics - e.g. the Higgs field; it’ll explain why some objects have mass, while others don’t. But, even if nothing is found, it’ll still be useful - it’d show us that we have severely misunderstood something; that one of their assumptions is wrong, allowing them to rethink and rediscover, which may lead to the right answer.

CERN and the LHC will be a major stepping stone as physicists search for an ever simpler and more ‘beautiful’ solution to the puzzles of our universe.

Forest week 5.  I gathered tree baby is good.  Then we got the food.  Got wood for the bridge and we watched the tree go down.

We got there, and we went to our shelter.  We had lunch, and I made the rolls.  We built a bridge.  We put logs down on this muddy path, with a tree that was cut down.  We also talked about all the equipment.  We put the two logs deep into the ground so it wouldn’t move.  When the tree was getting cut we had to keep a fair distance from it.

Went to woods, cooked sausages and bacon, made bridge, for going across marshy area, from a tree we cut down.  I dropped sausages when i was cooking them.  Smoke burned my eyes.

I was a chef and we built a bridge for teh John Muir Award.  The tree got chopped down and we had to stay back from it.  We put two big logs across it.

Big Cook

There is a chemical that is very dangerous. If this chemical is inhaled, it can be fatal. Under certain conditions, contact with the skin may cause a burn. However, once a person’s body becomes dependant upon this chemical, prolonged separation will almost certainly cause death. Although scientists are well aware of this chemical and it is found in nearly every drinking source, nothing is being done to try to eliminate it…

But what is this chemical?

When got there, we recapped on what we did last week.  We made another fire, and I got it lit first time.  We had toast on the fire.  We found a new camp to sit and eat at.  We started making seats for the camp.  We had to leave what we did.  And finally, Bethany had to wait to get the car keys so she could get her shoes.  Stephanie

We arrived at Butterfean Woods and got ready.  When we got into the woods itself, we played a game called Stealth.  Stealth is a game where someone stands in a spot, closes their eyes and counts to 20.  when they are counting everyone runs and hides.  trhe aim of the game is to get back to the person counting, without being seen.  We then toasted toast with our own cooking methods, and then ate it.  We also chose a place for our base.  Last but not least, we started making seats.  Bethany

SVS pupils have offered their skills to staff at Preston Lodge, and will be washing wheels/alloys and windscreens for a very competitive price (£1 for wheels and 50p for windscreen).  They have researched which products and tools to use and have had much practice.  The washing will take place in staff carparks and will be under supervision.  If you are interested please contact one of the following students:

Congratulations to Emma Rollo, who’s fantastic drawing won 1st prize at the Peter Potter exhibition. She beat off stiff competition from several schools around East Lothian.

 Well done Emma - We are all very proud!

On Friday evening pupils from Preston Lodge performed in Longniddry Parish Church. The purpose of the concert was to give pupils experience in performing to others before their Practical Exams in February/March. The concert was well attended and the evening was a great success. The department would like to thank Robin Hill for inviting us and all others who supported and helped out at the event. We would hope that this can become a regular concert and look forward to our next visit.

The Peter Potter Gallery in Haddington is currently holding its annual exhibition of pupils work from around East Lothian. A selection of Preston Lodge pupils, from S1 to S6, are exhibited there. Other participating schools include Knox academy, Loretto’s and Musselburgh Grammar.

The Preston Lodge High School Production will take place in the present (or in 2008) and the setting will be our very own illustrious educational establishment… The stars of the show will number a host of current PL students and teachers. (Or should that be teechers?)

Curriculum
Drama is currently not taught to first and second year pupils. In previous years, third and fourth year students studied and performed at Standard Grade level, however this years third year are following the Intermediate 2 course, which is of approximately equal difficulty, however it follows the same structure as the Higher course. Fifth and sixth year students studying drama at this time also follow the Intermediate 2 course, however there is a hope that Higher will be taught starting from 2008.

Staff
Drama is taught solely by Emily Gammie who is from Kirkcaldy in Fife. She studied in Newcastle upon Tyne at the University of Northumbria. She likes Theatre (obviously), reading, food (eating it not cooking it!), but dislikesprejudice, drivers who don’t indicate and mushrooms.
