Steel-Heads

2012-02-06T21:40:00.002+00:00

So this weekend saw me beavering away at some more minis for the Journeyman league

especially as I had been pipped to First place by Jim (Damn his ability to win games) .

Here are some pictures of the Steelhead riflemen and Steelhead halberdiers .

I head swapped the Halberdiers as I found the original ones too small and

I have always had a soft spot for GW Empire figures .

And so it begins

2012-01-29T19:57:00.002+00:00

The Journeyman League starts this week on Tuesday at 4TK.
This is a slow build league that encourages new players and older hands to start something a bit different.
Points are given for games played and figures painted so here are the first bits done

This is the Magnus the traitor starter set with an extra Renegade for good luck.

so far I have collected this lot

The Magnus Starter

1 Renegade

1 Unit Steelhead Halberdiers (6)

1 Unit Steelhead Rifleman (10)

1 Unit Steelhead Cavalry (3)

1 Unit Cygnar Long-gunners + UA (8)

Stannis Brocker

Kell Bailoch

Orin Midwinter

Saxon Orrik

Captain Damiano

So some serious painting to be done

Paxmans Work's Militia

2012-01-28T20:50:00.001+00:00

Finally got another unit ready to face the Fascists and other reactionaries that threaten Colchester
These chaps are from Paxmans mostly recruited from the factory floor but ably assisted by a couple of drafts men from the blueprint rooms .

Just going to keep a photo Log of the Dark Sun box set

Of roofs , Anima and Loathing

2011-12-17T12:31:00.000+00:00

So Holiday from work has started and it will be two weeks before I have to deal with it again so expect plenty of updates and production.
Managed to finish the roof this week.
Using balsa wood and sandpaper to act as Asphalt.

Then stained the wood with chestnut ink and put a base coat of black on the asphalt.

In other news got my first Christmas present and it is something that I have coveted for some time

The excellent Mr Norman got me the Black Sun Starter set from Anima Tactics by Cipher Studios .

The minis are fantastic , very delicate and beautifully detailed (not sure I can do the justice) ,the game itself is pretty good too with lots of depth and synergistic (is that a word?) play . Of course it does mean that the list of much desired models gets ever longer .The Warmachine Mercs are put aside for the moment but the list of desire for them has also grown now looks like I need half a dozen units at least two more heavy jacks and a gang of solos.

In other news I have been sucked back into my old Kingdom Of Loathing character Pretaboire.

If you haven't tried it out its well worth a bit of time . Its a point and click adventuring game that parodies ridicules and generally takes the piss out of everything .

The proper use of a Sunday

2011-12-11T17:10:00.001+00:00

So having had a bit of a crappy old week ,the Girls went off to take part in a charity fun run and I got the chance to work on the garage. Went round and put up all the pre-war posters , both inside and out these will all be weathered down with the rest of the building .

Also got the bulk of the roofing done this picture shows it at the half way stage to show method .

And then it was on to the canopy just cut the shape from craft foam as is most of the building.

I may leave it detachable and make up an alternate version that raiders have turned into a lookout post .

Another step forward

2011-12-05T18:31:00.001+00:00

Managed to get a quick spray on the Mercs this evening . Will be giving them a quick wash to catch the areas missed by the spray and whacking some sand on the bases and then they will sit on the WIP shelf for a month

Added supports for the canopy

Dark Future minis

Also got the base colours onto the garage . The plan is to paint it as it would of been "before the bomb" and then weather it down and add damage . I've included a few minis for scale .

Back On The Brushes

2011-12-04T14:49:00.001+00:00

So Its been 3 months since I picked up brush or glue so thought it was time to get stuff started again .
Mostly prompted by the 4TK Winter open day , I have managed to drag myself away from RIFT and Fallout New Vegas in order to start prepping some figures and scenery .
First up is my new battlegroup

Magnus the Traitor Starter set with an added Renegade this is a new venture for me as my main force is Protectorate of Menoth. 4TK is planning a journeyman campaign in the new year so this will be my new force to take part . One of the major parts of the campaign is that models are painted as the campaign goes on so other than a quick undercoat and a bit of base work these guys will not see paint till January .

When building them I managed to put the arms on one of the renegades backwards so now one will be Lefty and the other right hand man.
The other project I am going to be working on is the Warlands figures and scenery , I have a nice big stack of dark future minis and a mixture of vehicles so I can develop the collection . As far as the scenery goes it's going to have a distinctly Fallout feel Hence

This Filling station is loosely based on the one that appears all over the Mojave in Fallout New Vegas > I've always loved the look and feel of the fallout games so it seemed to make sense that a post-apocalyptic game should have a Fallout theme.

Messing around in Boats

2011-05-04T19:09:00.000+01:00

Johnny Hawkwind dropped off some uncharted seas boats for me to paint for our upcoming try something new campaign so I thought I'd chuck a bit of sepia wash on them.

Some more Cutlass

2011-05-04T11:13:00.000+01:00

Getting to grips with the Salty Whores

So last night I had a chance to play another game of Cutlass and start to get a better feel for the game.

Firstly I must say a huge thanks to Rob for the excellent playsheets that he spent a lot of time creating which made the whole experience far more enjoyable and sped up the game play no end . I took my gallant and noble royal navy crew (still not sure what there crew of yet) into battle against Robs all female pirate gang "The Salty Whores" who were being ably manhandled by Andy who wasn't sure whether to invest in a new system so wanted to try it out .The game itself went a lot smoother this time around especially as we hadplenty of assistance from the other backroom boys (or grumpy old geezers) Shaun ,Johnny Hawkwind (check out his cutlass review), Rob and Dave .I've posted up some pictures of the game in progress taken on my phone so not brilliant quality I'm afraid

All in all another very enjoyable game that flows quickly and once you have got your head round the mechanics makes a strange sort of sense . My navy boys did take a bit of a paggering but the game was still fun and I came away with the resolve to arm my men with more boarding pikes and muskets . Four of my crew were on the deck by the end of the game one of whom once down had been viscously kicked and beaten so that he left the table crippled . This time around we ran through the post game sequence to access our injuries experiences and earnings This went well although one of my marines lost a leg and three others were wounded and can't take part in the next game but on the plus side when the lovely lasses cut up my officer they left him with some intimidating scars . Unfortunately having lost the game my crew has started down the road of infamy , not by being evil just by being crap we did make a big pile of cash though . Not overly worried about the results as its all just experimental and I will create a new gang once we're all happy with the rules and we start to play in earnest .

at this point it looked like I was gonna take a kicking

Andy planning on crippling my valiant crewmen

now now girls theres no need to get viscious

Robs excellent play sheets

A productive morning of drybrushing

Plastered and First paint

2011-04-27T19:26:00.000+01:00

Things are likely to get a bit more wordy and a bit less pictorial as I am now back at work ( that assumes I can convince the IT support chaps to remove my own blog from the blocked list) . Thus a few days have gone past since last update .
The boards have had a couple of coats of plaster for texture and filling and their first coat of paint has been slapped on . They were still wet as I photographed them thus the extra shiny look .
I have also included some more pictures of the cacti with black scorpion cowboys for scale as requested .

Next up a word about try something new month.

Ready for texture

2011-04-24T11:44:00.000+01:00

Okay between family commitments and bank holidays have managed to get all the carving and sanding done .
Have also put in the woodwork and building bases .
Next will be plastering and base textures .
One of the things I love about projects like this is how the morph and alter as you do them ,

you'll notice the addition of a bit of cliff face to one end .

2011-04-22T12:34:00.000+01:00

Just a little bit of sanding and carving this morning
Added in some of the paved road that will be very overgrown when finished.
