Maaan.... I love women. I had a brilliant interview with @IMFshows's @iam_shanteezy and guest host @cheekipowpow and accidentally started a women's empowerment movement. It wouldn't suffice to say I was honored to sit down with them, but undoubtedly blessed. If there's a chance I can be as happy as I was at that table, for the rest of my life, I'll do whatever it takes to get there -- while earning respect and strengthening my character.

After the show, I realize how much I have in store for the world. I told them I'm doing everything I want to do: I can never forget that all statements require evidence and the only evidence that's valid is the product you put out. That translates to: so much more sh*t to do. But, I'm proud of the move I've been able to make out of pure determination: no mixtape lol. I'm also very happy with the individuals in my life, they give me strength and help me be great, even if they don't notice. Throughout life's turns, I've fostered and let go of plenty relationships, but I thank God for connecting me with such talented, beautiful people -- even if momentarily. To be able to grow into the best version of yourself, you can't ignore the greatness in others. The most rewarding gains from being an artist are loving what you do, being loved for what you do and finding others who appreciate that love. It's never easy to sit around a table with females whose opinions might sometimes ring louder than yours, but are no stronger. It's a blessing to feel the atmosphere clear when you can appreciate the person sitting next to you, and congratulate them on how dope they are in their own journeys of life.

@SwaggerOnTheMic Monthly Artist Showcase - NYC

I showed up to the Swagger On the Mic artist showcase "curling this hair and crossing this bridge" late, but I'm hoping to make the 10.22 show in time ;) Last time, I was just in time for the freestyle cypher which, appropriately, starts of the night. It took a round or two before we got something that wasn't written from a dude named Pharaoh - luckily for him because his music didn't play when he was supposed to go up. Fun Fact: Written freestyles will always be my pet peeve, forreal. I suppose this isn't a stab at anyone unless someone feels it. I'm not yet amazing at the freestlying thing, so it's always impressive to see anyone who is. The most brilliant part about showcases like this is that the public gets to see what the underground is cooking, but as an artist you also get to meet talent striving for the same as you. The most difficult part of participating in and attending showcases is that everyone is an artist. You are undoubtedly in the midst of your competition, and your time on the mic is the only #fact up for discussion. The most beneficial things I gained from attending this open mic were the feedback... and the opportunity to analyze the field and gauge which steps I need to take next.

It's funny how facts can sound like hate, depending on your level of confidence. My favorite thing about the Swagger On the Mic showcase is that there's a panel of people listening to give the artist feedback. & that means everything to a recovering poet like myself, who wishes she could have a Q&A session after each performance. Artists are judged on stage presence, song quality and a couple other areas of performance. Meanwhile, the crowd participates in raffles & supports the bartenders. When it comes to what the artist desires, the good folks who set up the Swagger On the Mic showcase do a very decent job at giving you what you need. While I earned straight A's *brushes shoulders off* I took that as a failure --I'm ungrateful, right? I believe there's always room for improvement, whether someone takes the time to tell you about it or not. For example, I could do without hitting my teeth on the mic and going to war with the mic cord. I'm so awkward on stage... I never understand why no one sees it. It's the confidence... that's it. "Confident" is always the way people describe my performances, and it was written on my reviews. I'm not sure how to take that. Some people are confident and terrible, so you sit though it to be "kind". I don't particularly like to be kind... only because I'm involved... I wish there were more honesty in these shows, but I have no idea what was written on the other sheets. On one hand, I wish people would give 1000000% real feedback... on the other hand... it's the "love" and "support" thing. This is important for atmosphere... you don't feel like you're going to get boo'd off stage at Swagger On the Mic, but it also isn't a poor line up, so you don't have much to be mad at. & I hate hatin'. The artists selected to perform are an eclectic group, featuring a variety of music, but Hip-Hop thrives. I can't complain... I guess what every artist wishes to see written a paper are instructions to blow, for you and only you. Where they do that at? lol

I wonder if becoming the artist is the best part? Having Swagger on the Mic is certainly the only way. I'm obsessed. I appreciate every single opportunity to touch the mic. It's an amazing feeling, because no matter how large the rapper's ego is, he/she can improve. I'm reminded of the Solange interview on Hot 97 where she admits that she would go on stage and pretend to be as brave and courageous as her fans thought her to be. What's most amazing about showcases is that everyone in there is human... and this is just the beginning. On September 8th, I didn't know anyone in the building and those are always my favorite events. I love to introduce new people to my art, so I'm excited about the show tomorrow. My EastBrookFamilia will be in the building, my actual familia might make the trek to Brooklyn as well *crosses fingers*. We should be able to get some videos up for you to judge & enjoy. & I actually finally have music on my soundcloud and business cards in my pocket so... Hope to see yall there! #BtchImBoutToBlowUp!!!

I love Eve. Let There be Eve was the first CD I owned. Since 1999, I've admired the artist and her courage. Her lyrics today are are brazen as they were back in the day but, as a female myself, there is only but so much of "I'm the greatest" I can take. I can also take so much from a woman dating a man I wouldn't let touch me. But here's the thing: No one cares what I think about Eve. & What does her personal life have to do with her music any how? For me, her personal life is her music. Personally, I wonder how she feels about interracial relationships. I would love to hear what she an Halle Berry have to say. Still, I can't let go of my personal feelings to take Eve to heart. She's mean with a pen, but I'm not sure I take anything she says seriously because I think she leaves important details out and I question why. When someone won't talk, you wonder what they're afraid of. She came out major in '99 and released her 2013 album proclaiming herself at the top of the game, as if we ever placed her there. She's nice, but... c'mon. I'm still skeptical about come-back artists. Eve, to me, is the female Jadakiss: She will always be nice, but I'm not sure how much her image really sells. I haven't forgotten that she's a re-born stripper. Does the public ever forget? More importantly, will it forgive? Or should we not speak on it? is that why this album is named Lip Lock? Nope. “I call the new record Lip Lock because it’s about locking the game back down,” she announced. Consider yourself under the microscope, then.

When I listen to and observe female artists, I have to take a good look at myself. I'll be judge according to the same standards. I wonder how much we accept people for who they truly are. I can't bring myself to think about a person and only think about a part of them. Do artists really improve, or do they make enough money to hire a better stylist and spend more on hair and make-up? Just recently, I've been hearing more about how "bad" Eve is... was she always? I mean, I thought she was, but that wasn't the first comment made about her, was it? I hate to put a negative spin on this but, it's the truth of how I feel.

Like her last projects, I enjoy a few tracks on this album. I groove to "She Bad, Bad" and "All Night" but the track listing is mostly braggadocio on Eve's part. As an artist myself, it's tough for me to chant someone else's name, and Eve rightfully loves to cheer for herself. Then there's "Make It Out This Town" which give a bit of a message, but also gets a bit corny at times, particularly closer towards the hook.

The most interesting track may very well be “Make It Out This Town,” a collaboration with Cobra Starship front-man Gabe Saporta and produced by Claude Kelly. “It’s got a really, really big hook,” said Eve. “Working with other musicians can be exciting as it gives the songs a different energy.” eve-world.com

I just don't fully digest Eve's delivery on this track. Feels phony or forced, but most track like these do. Her word placement is as uncomfortable as the subject matter, but I appreciate her giving us something with substance. Eve's "substance," though, is really just emotion. She gives you exactly how she feels, as raw as it comes. This time, it was corny, but... appreciated nonetheless.

My final thought is this: Hip-hop has changed a little bit in these passed 11 years. Can I get some art, please?

Survivor: A Short [Hot Mess of a] Film

   Before I could even get my makeup on, the photo shoot was over. What would you do if you traveled for hours to get to a photo shoot, and then the camera breaks, and all you have left is a flip recorder the age of a spoiled toddler? Me? I make shit happen. Impressive is what I do best. Fate is a b*tch, but it's her that makes me shine. We ended up making a short, impromptu film in which I played a gangsta wife --another thing I do best :)

I showed up umm... 3 and a half hours late to my photo shoot. I took a ferry over to Govenor's Island last Saturday to meet the other JT Gaze models and start the summer right. As I finished my $6 cookies-n-creme ice cream, Jay walked over and said something that ended with "and then it fell". I prayed he wasn't talking about the camera... but he sure was. When you're shooting with Jay, something is bound to happen - and that's the beauty of it. It's all about who can roll with the punches.

   My favorite thing about JT Gaze Models is... the models. And Jay :) I'm so comfortable with him as a director that I can actually try without feeling like an idiot. I've wanted to get more into acting for various reasons but I can never get over the fact that you're just faking an entire scenario. It's fun though. It's like being a kid again and making up a pretend world, except I'm finally Barbie (by a doper name). The models I meet are usually the best f people --they're just so creative.

       Angelica and Smiley are my new favs. This was Angelica's second photo shoot and her first time on film. Most of what I've done has been with Jay, so he pairs me with folk I'll work well with. As the clock ticked and we had no real camera to shoot stills with, Gelz and I matched wits and devised an entire short film. It was dope. Jay pulled a toy gun from his bag and said, "I've been obsessed with killing people lately," and from there, we made magic lol.

        If it's not about the quality, it's about the work you put in to perfect it. We're all rookies. Still, I thought it was phenomenal how we could throw this scene together so quickly. Gelz and I vibed so very well that the scene and the dialogue felt natural between us. She was a doll. I loved how sensitive everyone was to the issues. We didn't want Gelz to be a whore (lol), we had to wait for Smiley to get there to make sure he was ok with being my shooter (he was later than me! And very happy to hold the pistol lol). Stella, Smiley's friend, wasn't there to act, but graciously played an extra. I forget the last one's name cuz it was tough (started with an A) but he was almost gay for the project. We had an idea about my "husband" cheating on me with another man (that model left early) and we wanted to make sure the murders couldn't be interpreted as hate crimes. As for myself, I got to watch myself on film and see things I don't like. For example, that's the most terrible pony tail I've ever done to myself. It looks fine on photo, but film, not so much lol. & I do all this nervous stuff with my hands. Seems gangsta, but I just didn't know what to do. Guess I'm learning :)

      It was actually a really good time. We had so much fun, you can hear us laughing at the end of the film. I love that. I can't wait to do more!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Summer Jam XX

It was my first time... and it was such a bizarre learning experience. Maybe I was too old to be there... Or... I'm not supposed to be this side of the curtain. I'm certainly not meant to work it. I got to Summer Jam for free99 by volunteering with the New York Urban League. In conjunction with Hot 97 & XXL, we handed out show programs at the entrance. I'm not sure too many would consider Summer Jam a "learning experience" but it certainly helped me understand that I am who I am and I will never change. I've learned that being who I am makes me great... Summer Jam is supposed to be about being great... & while Hip-Hop is trying, some have forgotten.

The New York Urban League program is great, I suppose it was me who was the problem. After attending a couple of meetings, you can get on their board and make friends, but on the first day, it's super tough. There's a group of individuals who are "members" and mostly stick to themselves. The rest of the group seemed to pair off with whomever they came with (most people volunteered with friends). There was another girl who came by herself who I started talking to... but the issue with these "networking" things is that some people go to make connections, some go because they have no friends in real life and others go because they might be able to find a potential mate at one of these functions. She'd asked me if I was in a relationship, and I told her it wasn't the time for me. They she started talking about how she was ready. We made friends with another volunteer, and after he joined us, I just felt like the third wheel. I'm no one's wing man. If you want o fly, you've got to do it on your own. I'm too grown for that. I had to separate myself. I had to let her groove. The most difficult thing to understand when you're volunteering is... what are you there for? When I realized I wasn't there for the people in that group, I ventured off on my own. But, my venturing seemed to be a problem for some in the group. The people who spoke to me as we checked in and even on the bus, seemed to not want to speak to me anymore because I tend to separate myself.

What made me most uncomfortable about the program and the leadership tactic employed was that I felt like a child. I felt like I was on a field trip. I simply feel like, if you are a true professional, you can act as an individual, and still participate in the task which needs to be completed. Also, as a leader, you should delegate work, but try to make the work as least strenuous to your group as possible. You try to complete the task in the most efficient manner. It was hot out there. Instead of asking for someone to move a pallet for us, we had to form a line and move these heavy ass boxes to the gates one-by-one while drinking hot ass water. I tried to find who I could to help us, but by the time they came, we were 95% finished and my back hurt. I know some of the folks thought I was complaining, but the reality is, we didn't have to do what we did how we did it. I hate when there are easy solutions no one wants to use because they're afraid to speak up. There's a difference between being a leader because you're part of a group and being a leader because you are one. I am not just hands, but a mind as well. And it's not that I didn't like anyone in the group, it's that I never ended on finding a best friend (or a husband) there.

Summer Jam is a great event. It's well planned and well staffed. Met Life Stadium is fantastic. It opened on April 10th, 2010 and holds 82,566 people. It it phenomenal. Before the show, there's a festival in the parking lot with vendors and free giveaways. It's great for patrons. My only issue was the Summer Jam was Thirsty City; it's really just a place to... pimp *shrugs* Perhaps I'm just not a fan of today's music, but it was like being at the club... or anywhere. The artists would come on stage and not really make an effect. With radio hits from Meek Mill, 2 Chains and the like, it was really just a... freak show.

It was an outdoor club forreal. I don't think this is a negative, I just think it's a reality of what the show was --this year at least. I could read some of the girls volunteering with me and how they would get upset when men would stop and talk to me when I handed them programs. That's not my fault. And, in the words of Funk Flex, who you mad at? Me or yourself? I wasn't there for them, I was there for me. I was there to meet whoever I made a connection with & I actually did groove with the good folks from LoveandFashion.org, simply because they respected my independence --they work with artists on various fronts. I enjoyed myself as much as I could let myself but... When I'm not in the mind for that --flirting, etc. --I simply can't do it. Is everything about everyone else? When are you allowed to start caring for yourself without offending others? What I learned was to continue to be the same... Keep smiling. Keep being friendly. No matter if when I spoke they looked away. No matter if when I said goodbye they pretended they didn't hear. No matter. Continue to be yourself, I told myself. The worst thing you can do is let others affect your mood.

I was there to see the show. I was up in teh nose bleeds, but I wouldn't have wanted to be down in the mosh pit. I just wanted to see exactly what the artists would do on this "epic" stage -- that earns them major dollars. What would make someone pay over $200 a ticket to see you? And how do you impress 82,566 people? How do you hold their attention? What does that take? Is it even possible? I'm sure it is. Jay can do it. Bey can do it. Mike could have done it... that means it can be done. I wanna know how. You see, I don't want to work anymore --not off-stage at least. But what would make people love me when I'm up there? I wouldn't want to me a Meek Mill/2 Chains. People didn't pay attention to them, they were just shaking their asses to the music. Fabolous was decent, I just don't find him entertaining in person, there's nothing about him I want to watch. Wouldn't want to be Lil' Kim --she got her respect, but they didn't miss her when she stepped off stage. Wouldn't want to be Nicki Minaj --she spent far too much time and funds on her outfit for 2 minutes to talk come on stage and pat her vagina. Wouldn't want to be Papoose --no one knew who he was until he said "Free Remy." Wouldn't want to be Kendrick Lamar -- the crowd was practically silent when he was on stage, it was like he slowed the whole stadium down & most I've spoken to have called the performance "sad" and "boring". Wouldn't want to be A$AP Rocky, he was dope but no one really noticed and he was mostly just used to liven up Kendrick's set. Wu-Tang was dope, purely out o respect; it was old-school Wu-Tang. I loved Bone Thugs-N-Harmony because they have the same sound, but it sounded so relevant --although the youth never respect old heads. I just... wanna be me. And, someday, I wanna play Summer Jam. I'm more of an unplugged girl. Can you do unplugged with that many people?

S.W.A.G - Spoken Word Affecting Generations

I hate performing, so I've had to learn to share. Spoken Word Affecting Generations, a monthly open mic held at Brooklyn's Simplicity Wine Bar Café, took place May 14th, and that is where I finally learned what I'm supposed to do. Surrounded by a plethora of talented, passionate artists, I was able to both share, and receive beautiful lessons. I know this is something you learn in pre-school, but I really learned about sharing at this open mic & I am eternally grateful.

What I admitted at this event, was how much it bothers me when "poets" talk trash about "rappers". It bothers me as much as when "rappers" try to be poets. I'm not a rapper. I'm not a poet. I am myself, and I do both. I even sing a lil tune when the spirit moves me. I hate labels. I think people should be who they are and stop trying to fit into a box --unless you've created that box for yourself. Me? I'm a gangsta.

When words leave my lips, those are my truths. Those are the thoughts which have the courage to drip through the ink of my pen... or through the tips of my fingers and into my iPhone's notes. I never question what I write in private, but I always feel I have to preface it when I'm in public. 5'2 and addicted to pretty heels and anything in pink, I might not be what your television screen tells you a "gangsta" is. Gangstas, tho, don't care to fight whatever false image you have in your head. Ain't got shit to do with us, really. & That's the same reason I love poetry, I admitted that night. Poetry never lets you hide. It forces you to pen feelings and to get into peoples minds --to pull up memories and affect the way their hearts beat. I stopped writing poetry when my brother died. I think my poetry died, too.

The most beautiful thing about meeting new people is finding groups who share, not the same ideas, but the same emotions you do. At the end of the session, the host, Ageless the Street Poet had us go around and say one thing we were grateful for. I forget what I said; Days, I think. I'm grateful for every day, every thing. We then had a real discussion about people and how they seem to have this ingrained anger. Sometimes I feel like we forget that the people walking around us are as human as we are. We fail to show they respect and... love. Love is the only solution, Ageless proposed. I'm totally for that. If we could love each other like neighbors used to, like Jesus tried to teach us, perhaps the world would be a better place.

What I enjoyed most about the SWAG open mic was the acceptance and positivity. I felt like I could be myself; I could speak how I need to speak, but still cross my legs when I sit. I could be a lady. I didn't feel any anger from the other women (which happens a lot and I hate it) and I was able to get respect from the gentlemen. It was a great session, especially since you got two rounds to share. The worst part about open mics and performances is that you go up, do your thing, sit down... and then that's it. Call it what you want, but I could be on the mic all night; that's what I'm there for. I love it. Therefore, I love how Ageless employed the two-round sharing. Simplicity Wine Bar Café is a classy looking space, but the people were the best part. I really enjoyed. I can't wait for the next one <3

Potion Collective Memorial Day Showcase

On Memorial Day, The Potion Collective will showcase an impressive line up at Brooklyn Fire Proof East, with myself as the featured artist. :) The holiday celebration features an all-day cookout beginning at 1:30pm. At 7:30, the mic opens up to whichever creative souls are called. ADMISSION IS FREE. At about 10pm, I've compiled a selection of my works to share with you all. I can't even begin to explain how excited I am, but if you have the time to attend, I'm sure to impress you. That, I guarantee.

I happened upon The Potion Collective after having been turned down by the Nuyorican Poets Café one too many times. I hadn't made it to East 3rd in time to beat the Monday Open Mic sign-up line which starts to form at 7:30pm (while the doors don't open until 9). I don't know if I'll ever make it lol. The Poet's Café is great. The people are great. I just actually detest waiting in lines. After H tore down the stage, we headed over to Williamsburg at the recommendation of Boss Carrot and Corday The Artist of The City Don't Sleep. We caught Yva Las Vegas putting on her one of a kind show where her feelings and her words spoke with each other and her guitars, in whichever language they felt most comfortable --the oddity of it was both beautiful and miraculous. It was such an accepting crowd, I'd never felt more comfortable on a stage. & Frankly, I've never felt more blessed. I wasn't expecting the offer... at all. But... I suppose love makes the world move.

Perhaps it's more confidence, perhaps it's having more comfort, or perhaps your spirit guides you to where you need to be so that you can have all of those without much thought. After I shared, I spoke with Nicole about coming on as the feature, but fell in love with her because of Her Freedom Blog. Sarah hosted The Potion Collective open mic when I shared, and also performs with the band Mishti Vishti (and I adore her rooftop garden). Both ladies have been so... chill. Chill is all I ask for <3 They're just real girls with real lives and I love that --I'm regular, too. It's helped me figure out exactly how I want to share without considering holding back. So... I've found some old poetry, I'm bringing on some old friends, I'm mixing it up with some new folk and some new work. I just want to see how full of a picture of me I can give you all in the 25 minutes I've been granted. I want to enlighten. I want to entertain. I want to inspire. I want to invigorate.

So... May 27th. Whatever I wanna do. Wish me luck <3

Bobby Stone and Friends Concert (Brooklyn, NY)

On May 18th, Bobby Stone held his 3rd indie/unsigned artist concert in Brooklyn, NY - and it was dope. The New Old School is the title of Stone's latest music project - the concert being the official release party -as well as the guide for his craft and crowd: An old school feel, with The New School appeal. Not only was I excited to participate, but I am both humbled and honored to have been chosen by a crowd with such a specific (and dope) "genre" of sorts.

       Events like this are nothing short of educational. As artists grace the stage, you get insight into the creative process of each as they showcase their interpretation of Hip-Hop. Being one of those genres of music that is never good enough for itself, you could artists bash the world in their lyrics as they attempted to provide something new.

My favorite part of participating in this event was the feedback from the ladies. The music industry is a tough one in that is is very physical and based on appearances, but if you want to be real, real recognize. I'm still bubbly over compliments from Juicy Stone and her friend Simone as they encouraged me to keep being dope. While I write what I write and say what I say, I still feel the obligation to represent for women. Hopefully, my verses can give us a response to the music that's currently out there -and the world- so that we have a voice we're proud to uplift. I'm not saying it's easy... it's a battle I struggle with. Mainstream is the only way to make money, but is selling yourself the only way to make mainstream?

      I met a bunch of brilliant artists that night, that's probably the best benefit to shows. Baltimore was heavy in the building with Baltimore SON (Shining on Negativity). Being that I lived in Bmore for 4 years, I've got a soft spot for the gritty city and was happy to hear they were in the building, with such a positive message. Baltimore SON was also very dope. His lyrics were well written and heartfelt, but still live enough to vibe to. If you have a chance, check him out.

       BobbyStone is more impressive than you'd even being to think. With the release of this new project, The New Old School, he showcased some of his latest tracks for us. His flow is particularly entertaining. Whether talking about wordplay, gunplay or daily life, he wraps his words around the music and reels you in. He has a very new sound, but his lyrics are Hip Hop as it has been. In addition to that, this was the first showcase I was a part of where they made time for everyone --and the crowd stayed to show love. Bobby was adament about supporting artists and being there to actually listen to them. He's much more passionate about being the "Leader of the New School" than I had expected him to be. He's phenomenal in that he share resources and provides material for artists to promote before and after the show. He puts in a whole lot of work and if you were to hate him for everything else, you'd have to love him for that. Oh & as Juicy pointed out, he's a black man with a Master's degree, we don't see much of that. Bravo, brotha!

As expected, Corey Ty has done it again. On Wednesday, May 1st, at Magnet Lounge, the designer debuted the newest additions to his clothing line -and his career. Patch Adamms, as the designer and his Black Label collection will be known here forward, describes his work as "unique, bold, witty and eye-catching." The description barely captures the charismatic personality and individual beauty each piece carries, transferring that energy right onto the models as they drip confidence down the runway.

Confidence should be bottled and sold. I was blessed enough to touch the mic for Adamms. There were entertainers booked to perform during the models' changes, providing a keen mix of art and keeping the crowd entertained. I'd walked for Adamms in another fashion show (READ POST HERE) and I was impressed with him then. Afterwards, unexpectedly, he came out to see me perform at the Paul Robeson one night. I'm not a new artist, but I'm new publicly. I get nervoud on stage, but I try to fight it off as often as I can. As frightened as I always am to hit the stage, I actually find my most strength in the support of those there to support me. I adore Adamms because he keeps family close to him, but I am sure he'll treat you as family if you do the same. (I asked for a hat to wear during my performance and got Calvin Klein concealer all over it (I need to look into something new smh) & for too many reasons, he told me to keep it. I've never bought anything from Adamms, but because of his true dedication and kind persona, I intend to. His clothing is dope, but it's so much doper because it's his. Focused on his craft, he has an effective team behind him, but Adamms is undoubtedly in charge of his craft. Seemingly undisturbed, he was brilliant host for the evening --both greeting attendees and attending to his models and staff. The leadership Adamms portray does not escape his art.

Patch Adamms exudes an air of bold and brilliant confidence --both the designer and the line. The ready-to-wear collection, ISEENTHOS is fun, testing unexpected combinations of textures, colors and patterns. The end product is always a fearless, unique product --Adamms rarely makes anything two of a kind and the collection is full of unique creations. The men's and women's clothing pair perfectly, but stand confidently on their own. The line includes everything from shoes and hats to shorts, skirts, tops and sweaters --even kids! Patch Adamms will feature dresses for the ladies, suits and bow ties for the men. For the ladies, Adamms provides an extensive collection emitting a sexy, street look for... chicks like me. Lil Kim at The Gramercy Theatre

Lil Kim is "The Queen B" for a reason. When she hits the stage, it's like her album just dropped. It's like she's setting the standard - again. I was blessed with the opportunity to attend her performance at The Gramercy Theatre on April 26th. of a particular breed of female: one who can do what men do, sometimes better than he can.The issue is, Kim survived the game better than her man did. I can never look at Kim and dismiss the hardships she's faced. She gave herself to a lifestyle that didn't really wanted her body more than her art. Still, she prevailed. As Kim has said for herself, "A queen is not a queen because she has not failed. A Queen is a queen because failure has not stopped her." The most beautiful thing about Kim is that she was so human.

Hitting the stage in a tighter-than-skin one piece, Kim ripped it - literally. What Kim fans are afraid to say is anything that will make you think that she isn't that bitch. True Kim fans are loyal and too busy yelling "We love you, Kim!" to tell you that both the sleeves of Kim's bad ass get-up ripped close to the beginning of her performance. "I'm drunk," she muttered after the first song, motioning backstage for another drink who provided her a water bottle for the rest of the night. Although this is the truth, please understand that the full truth, is that Kim held herself amazing during her performance, because a Queen always pulls through. She was so classy.

Does anyone think about Kim without thinking about Nicki Minaj? Better question: Does anyone think of a female emcee without thinking about Kim? My issue is I can't think about Kim without thinking about BIG. The reality of her life is that she gave herself to her art, which she thought would bring her and the ones she loved out of the slums that made them. She's lost a lot. You could see her eyes watering on stage as she told the crowd how beautiful they were and how much she appreciated performing for New York. Meanwhile, the man she loved most wasn't there, physically, with her. You wonder what she goes home to , but it doesn't matter. It's none of our business. On another end, any female coming up in the game is compared against her and the foolish ones attempt to destroy her empire instead of securing their own. When Kim hit that stage, she was Kim. & it was my first time seeing her. But she loved being up there. In the middle of the music, she'd smile. She'd pop that, talk shit and laugh. The interludes were the saddest, because in any spare moment, you can't help but to remember who Kim is an all that she has lost in this game. But... they say you've got to lose some to win some.

Calvin Klein "Ray" Watch - $199

Calvin Klein makes a classy selection of craftily made watches. The Swiss pieces are mostly stainless steel but come in a variety of size and styles to suit the angry teen to the angry old man with the fabulous diva sitting pretty right in between. Some of the watches are really classy and artistic, like the Calvin Klein "Ray" Watch. Although I did scoop this bad girl up, I've been looking for a watch I can throw on at anytime. My department at work produces all the advertising and packaging for Calvin Klein. Any box, bag, poster or billboard or commercial you see comes from the people in my office. If we're lucky, samples come around. I posted some photos on my Instagram yesterday, so thought I'd share my finds in full. That said, my watch collection just got a decent upgrade.

Before I started looking into watches, I had no idea of what one cost. Watches are supposed to be part of a "collection" so you should be willing to spend a little bit of change to get a true collection started. A good watch should last you forever, you kinda want to hand these things down. I rarely know what I've picked up, but when I can, I Google it to see the worth. It's not that the worth defines a product, the the price gives you an idea of the esteem and class of the product (or at least what the producers think the value is). I think it's brilliant of a company to give its employees things, so that we can tell the public about the product. These aren't the first watches I've gotten (I've also bought some at sample sales) but I really do love them. They're just well made and presentable. The name Calvin Klein is both ordinary American and high-end depending on who's checking. So... I just recommend a Calvin watch if you're in the market. Something new *shrugs* Check out the goodies I scored.

Calvin Klein "Ray" - $199

When I first picked the "Ray" up, I thought it was far too large, but it's just super bold. The way it straps around your write makes you feel like a superhero. As if, either spiderwebs or lasers should shoot out. Still, it does make me feel like a superhero, probably because of the all black everything appeal. The watch actually comes in two other versions; chrome with black and chrome with blue. I prefer the all-black version because it make the watch look super-sleek, and there's less differentiation between the face of the watch, the dial and the hardware. The dial and hands are super small, but translate to chic on the black surface.

Calvin Klein Men's Watches - $199-$350

Men's watches are always a little pricier than women's. I couldn't find the exact watch online, but there are similar ones listed below. I'm assuming this is a men's watch, not because of the large face, but because of the large straps. I picked this watch up for 2 reasons: I wanted an over-sized watch, and this one is so simple, I could wear it with anything --Think, fresh in my white tee. As simple as this timepiece is, I think this it's a fabulous accessory piece for a suit because it's not gaudy and doesn't ask for too much attention. Still, the "Calvin Klein" is large enough to be seen and leave a classy impression. It's also going to be amazing to pair this with wild outfits. The simplicity of the piece will mesh well with a bold outfit. As for the over-sized face, I like a masculine look sometimes, especially if you're dressed down. An over-sized watch on a female simply stands out. Frankly, I think it makes you wonder whether or not it's hers. Either way, you consider her ballsy for wearing it. So.. why not? *shrugs* I think every woman needs at least one over-sized watch in her collection, and the easiest way to find one is simply to find a men's watch you like :)

I know very well that beggars cannot be choosers, but I love this watch in all-silver. Mine is silver with a blue face, but it also comes in silver with a black face. My favorite thing about this design is the clasp --this watch is not coming off. The clasp makes the design sleek and refined, making the watch double as a bracelet. It's actually also very lightweight. Also I do think the black and full-silver are classier than the blue, I like mine because I can easily dress it down. I think this is a good watch for a casual, jeans day.

Vladimir M. Baptiste - Artist, Baltimore MD

Vladimir M. Baptiste is a passionate artist whose paintings practically ooze with emotion. He is also my Facebook friend :) He'd read my last post on Chopin and was kind (and real enough) to share his thoughts with me. We spoke briefly on our favorite Chopin selections and he even ended up recommending a violinist for me to listen to. The one thing Vladimir never mentioned was that he is an artist himself. What I admire most is where his inspiration comes from and his willingness to share those details.

The scariest thing about being an artist, to me, is that your art speaks, but it never explains. For this reason, I'd like to include Vladimir's own words in explaining his artistry and the purpose behind it:

I picked up art back in 2008 to cope with some intense suppressed emotions thatIi had. I know it might sound like a repetition of the same thing that I wrote about myself in the passed competitions...but that's the source of what drives my creativity. Those suppressed emotions are the same that we all deal with in our daily lives. I'm sure some people can cognate some of my experiences with theirs, when I paint a picture of my love, heartaches, sickness, (re)birth, death which gives us a purpose for living. Exempting those that were dealt a bad deck of cards in life, God knows this world isn't for the distracted and aimless mind.

I want to keep exploring this blessed gift that God has giving me. I remember a friend of mine who wanted to deal with a very bad break up she was going though, we all have had our hearts broken once or numerous times and know the excruciating pain that comes with it; While she was explaining her story to me she inspired on of the artwork below that i painted of her with a broken heart on a plate.

Basically, we all are conscious beautiful statues that over the years life's obstacles put cracks on our mental, and physical being. For me, and I hope to others ART comes in and fill that void. - Vladimir M. Baptiste

Each brush stroke is soaked in emotion. As I looked through Vladimir's work, it felt like with every piece, you could not only feel what the subject was feeling, but what he was feeling while painting it. The painting above, with the woman with the heart on the plate, made me stop immediately. Vladimir explains that the piece was inspired by stories of heartbreak from his friend. Everyone can relate to heartbreak, but this representation was so brutally honest; there is a heart broken, and seems she has done this to herself. The woman holds a knife behind her back and gazes directly at the audience, as if to say, "You understand. And if you don't, you soon will." Regardless of this devilish undertone, she remains beautiful, and that's what I love the most: how beautiful he makes his women --although ordinary women and not the socially defined representation of beauty.

Whether portrait or photo, Vladimir's eye always portrays a beautiful point of view. It is as if he is always gazing at the beauty of the subject rather than the subject itself. Noting I'm no professional art critic, the only word I can use to describe is brushstroke is fluid and carefree. His moving lines give all of his images a life-like quality although the images are certainly drawn. It's like... the prettiest anime.

The photos and paintings featuring balls of light, as I like to call them, emit a gold-like aura to me. Perhaps someone else would see something else, but that is the light. The images below feel so open. It is as if they are drawn from inside the valley of darkness, looking out. These are those "aha" moments in life; moments when you know it is almost over.

The final photo seems we've finally escaped the wilderness. Still, you can see the crack of light in the horizon. To me, this seems to say, no matter how perfect we are or how far we've come, there is always another step we can take. Additionally, it makes me grant reverence in knowing that no matter what I do or how great I might become as a person, I must always understand that the greatness of God outweighs mine. Personally, I see how this can be overwhelming to submit to --because it was overwhelming for me to submit to --but Vladamir's photo illustrates how beautiful that submission can be. Sometimes, we are simply called to submit to whatever is in our hearts, and in our hearts is where true art resides. I hope whoever views Vladimir's arts can see something similar to what I have and are "encouraged... to continue in the faith, reminding them that we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God. (Acts 14:22)"

Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) - Pianist + Composer

I can't stop listening to this!! At 7 years old, Frédéric Chopin (Sho-pon) had composed his first two Polonaises (Polish dancing music). As I browsed the $1 sale walls of Book Off, I had recognized Chopin's name, but had no real idea of the incredible genius he was. A child piano Prodigy, Chopin's works were highly influenced mostly by the legendary composers Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.The Polish musician lived most of his life in France. Due to illness, he passed at the age of 39 years old, his work being the only children he left behind. In his will, he asked his heart be removed from his body. His heart is immured in a pillar at the Holy Cross Church in Warsaw, Poland with an inscription that reads, "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Matthew 6:21) --A true testament to the musicians' artistry and personality.

I appreciate early musicians like Chopin for their concern with creating music not simply acting for fame. Chopin stayed away from the fancy names for his works. My favorite piece on this disc is "Nocturne #2 in E Flat; Opera 9 No.2, CT 109" (above). I literally just swayed across the house cleaning. This piece is simply beautiful and sounds to me like exactly what the piano should sound like. Justly so, Chopin dedicated this piece to Camille Pleyel, fellow composer and owner of the Pleyel piano company. My second favorite piece is Étude Opera 10 No. 3, which is sometimes called "Tristesse" (Sadness) or "L'Adieu" (Farewell). The piece was composed in 1832. While it does have a little bit of a somer tone, it still moves so happily. Personally, it just calms me a bit. During this time, Chopin was dealing with his lady friend Maria Wodzínska, to whom he had been engaged. The music calms sometimes, then speeds up.. there are just so many variations of tome, which I assume would be common for any relationship. Not too long after, he composed the Waltz in A Flat Major; Opera 69 No. 1., also known as The Farewell Waltz, and formally dedicated it to Maria. Listen to both below!

I popped the CD in because, honestly, I was tired of hearing people talk. I just wanted to hear music. I'd picked up The Best of Chopin to find a bit of inspiration and expand my understanding of music. I suppose I'm trying to find out where art comes from as well as what exactly defines greatness. I chose the CD because I find it interesting to figure out the beginnings of music to see where it has gone today. I watched this Ted Talk on the power of classical music and how it helps us tap in on true "love" and Chopin is a fascinating example of this. Many of the details left behind describe how the young man composed each of his pieces with explicit feeling, dedicating songs to his lovers and particular moments of his life. Chopin was said to have employed the rubato tempo almost effortlessly, allowing him to inject his music with feeling, energy and improvisation. Some say this rubato energy was what helped Chopin reach greatness, since the passion in his pieces is nearly inimitable.

Just something new... or something really old, I guess. Learning rules. #LongLiveArt :)

Huge S/O to Miss Jessie's because I actually use the stuff. My hair is natural (no chemical straightening) and the most recent thing I've done has been coloring it. I'm a fan of dying my hair, so may hair tends to be on the dry side. Split ends are the death of me, so I've always got to put extra oils and stuff in it. The Super Sweetback Treatment significantly adds moisture to my hair and makes it a lot more manageable to comb through after my shower. When I let my hair air dry, it leaves my curls super soft. I usually leave the treatment in for 30 minutes or more, once a week. You can use it daily, but I prefer to let it sit. The 48oz bottle of this will run you $48.00, which is a lil pricey on my current scale, but it has lasted quite a bit of time on my "once a week" schedule. Fortunately, I got this in a gift bag for a Sharprton Entertainment event a while back. Still, I'd definitely make the purchase if looking for a nice treatment or perhaps a gift.

Time to break out the peep-toes! I go through phases where I just need to buy myself anything for a bit of retail therapy. Whenever I'm in need, I drop by NYCK at 495 7th Ave., NYC. While the website is a little tough to navigate, I love the store. There is always a good sale selection. You can go in there with $20 and get a decent shoe. Literally. I get most of my summer shoes here because they're cheap, but fairly well made depending on your taste. Sometimes I just need something, anything new. Especially in the summer time, a bunch of anything wedges can make your outfits gain extra personality.

Summer wedges are brilliant in that they look good with anything; dresses, jeans, pants, shorts, skirts. I find myself switching shoes more often in the cold season, so I just like to have random pairs to throw on. Truthfully, though, if ever I'm feeling down, this is a cheap way to make myself feel happy at lunch :) & any shoe that people stop me to compliment me on is an amazing shoe regardless of the price tag. Just make sure your shoe is made of leather and you're pretty good. I sifted myself a bit of gold with these.

Chelsea Crew seems to be an old school, girly, classic, country type of shoe. They don't have a direct website but this pair was on sale for $20, so I had to get them. They came in black but not in my size :( With the 2nd annual Made In America Festival having just been announced (GOT MY TICKET!!!) I've been feeling like Woodstock has come back to life and the 70s have been revived. The fringe just did it to me. They actually have decent cushioning and are comfortable as most wedges are. The espadrille wedge makes these the perfect summer shoe. They've also got these American sandals I might need.

My favorite thing about this store is that the guys at NYCK are dolls and they always help me out (and it's mostly guys). They're super friendly and always willing to help, but not pushy or gross. They always say hello when I walk in the door, and I only shop where I'm comfortable. They've just expanded they're stock and just got a bunch of Bestey Johnson rain coats. They also have a large selection of Uggs and Crocs and were the first place I saw Paris Hilton's shoes. I love this place for the variety --I've gotten my mom a pair of shoes here and they also have kids' shoes. It's just an all around good place to shop.

LOVE places like this. Book Off is a buy/sell/trade store for your books, DVDs, CDs and games. The only unfortunate thing about these locations is that there is no database. This means that when you go in, you've got to cross your fingers and search for your book by topic and author. Still, it's a fantastic place to visit and walk around. They have sections for $1 for CD's and books. DVDs are as low as $3. They also have used gaming systems!

This is a cool place since you never know what you'll come across. I'd recommend it for gifts. It's like thrifting, sorta. It's also a great place to get your movie and/or music collections together. I bought Destiny Child's 1998 self-titled, debut album for $1 :) Also in the $1 section were Janet Jackson's Damita Jo, Lee Ann Rimes' You Light Up my Life (1997), Paul "Wine" Jones' Mule and The Best of Chopin. For $5 plus tax, I got myself some blues, country, classical and R&B. I just really like music, yall.

Low prices are fabulous for anyone. They are pivotal for researching or building up your collections - which can be extremely costly. Books are rarely under $10 and the same goes for CDs. If you're looking to buy, I recommend a place like Book Off where you can really get your money's worth and spend some quality time thumbing through the artists of your genre. Meanwhile, you also learn a lot about whatever you're thumbing through. There are so many artists, writers etc. in this world & for just a simple dollar, you can learn about someone/something new.

It's also a great palce to go and spend a dollar if you're in the city and bored :) Check them out at 49 W45th Street, NY, NY 10036.

Came up on a bunch of Essie polish. Tried on Aruba Blue last night & loved it instantly. It's bright enough to shine in the dark, but reflects light magnificently in the sun. It's bold enough to stand on it's own or contrast other vivid colors. For example, I'm wearing pink pants today (lol). Still, the blue is dark enough to mute itself if worn with darks/blacks. I like that it's a dark blue because it soothes the brightness a bit.I think it's the same thing pastels do --Check out Hani's post on Pastel Blues -- I get a little weary about bright polishes in the work place. I want to look "fun" but still professional. This is a fabulous workplace color yet surprising enough to catch someone's eye on a night out.

Jay-Z's "Open Letter" - A Fearless #Review

Anyone who's met me knows I love HOV. I suppose that is my disclaimer. Just like his wife, he's got a lot going on. Public attention has always fueled the two in trying to show the world they've captured all the riches... but once you've got that, then what?

"Mr. President, there's drugs in our residence. Tell me what you want me to do. Come break bread with us," Jay rhymes in one of my favorite tracks, "Justify My Thug." Now that he's proclaimed his "clearance to the White House" I just can't help but to wonder what lengths he's going to for the people. In "Open Letter" he plays around with making moves with Cheif Keef and spreading product through the hood out of spite. He jokes (sorta) about telling President Obama to forget the legislative drama and chill with him on a beach. He's the only president Jay-Z has supported... In "Open Letter" he rhymes about how he never trusted politicians... you want Obama to quit on us too? Or are those just empty rhymes? Can we still trust you?

I believe Mr. Carter is infinitely talented --as is the Mrs. It's near blasphemous to deny their talents and influence. Their recent trip to Cuba stirred up, not only attention-starved haters like Stacey Dash, but the nation as a whole. Last we knew, Cuba was off limits. But the Carter's know no limits and that's what continues to impress the public. The only limitation is seeded in exactly who they are. Hov is a regular nigga from the block who just happen to rap. Beyoncé is just a regular girl from Houston who can blow. They've tried to go to lengths to show this to the public --with Bey releasing her documentary and both of their teams opening social media accounts. While I stalk their Facebook pages and share their corny love notes, I sometimes feel sorry that they have to have a marketing scheme in order to show who they "really" are.

I love you HOV, I really do... but only because I listen. I remember your promise: "When I blow, I'll let them know the stakes and exactly what takes place in the ghetto". The only issue is that where you're from hasn't changed much & it's kinda Where I'm From. I just wish there were more positive movements now that Hov is in a place to do so. It's bittersweet because Shawn has legitimate emotions which he has a right to express... I suppose I'm just ready for the album. I listened to Spike Lee speak once and he said never to judge an artist on one piece of their work, they are themselves as a whole. But Jay-Z's most recent ventures have been for money. The Barclay's center has been great for Brooklyn's pride as well as for the advancement of gentrification. The recent news of Mr. Carter selling his stock in the Brooklyn Nets was a keen business move. Hov is the self proclaimed business man.

Perhaps it's not right to hold any artist up to such a standard of saving the world... or perhaps this is where there is room for something new. Jay-Z (while I still love him) is not the end all, be all. It's just... the sound of his voice is a hit. My grandest concern is that when you have a voice people listen to, you can have more of an effect on the world than you may know. It would be brilliant to use those powerful voices to change the state of the world. "After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. They won't follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don't know his voice (John 10:4-5)." I'm admittedly an idealist at heart... but the world has changed, which means that it can continue to. Maybe we need artists who not only recognize the errors of the world, but consciously make an effort to address them. Most artists speak on concerns and then never make a move. Others seem to take on a cause because it would "look good". It's tough to find something real.

Maybe Jay-Z is as scared of making statements for social restructuring as people are afraid to call out his shortcomings. I had to quit Twitter this morning because everyone was talking about the release of the "Open Letter", but no one really had anything to say. It was just... Jay-Z has a new song. Jay-Z is great. *shrugs* Sure... but are you listening? He's a real person. What is he saying? Some people are haters, yes, but that doesn't mean they don't feel that way for a reason. I'd vote Jay-Z for president off the strength that I love him... but he's scared of the public. We can rile that man up something crazy. This song simply sounded like him venting. He's upset. With a wife and a child at home, I just wish him peace.

My favorite thing about H himself is that he's just a normal, very well-dressed n*gga (no offense) who happens to be glorious on tracks. "I expected him to be taller," a friend said. H stands 6'3, 150lbs, which means he towers over my 5'2, but maybe his rhymes are just that colossal. Born to Rosalyn and Michael Williams on February 26th, in the year of royalty (1988, is where it's at), 25-year-old, Michael "Hollywood" Williams is an East New York, Brooklyn native; a G from The Field across the boulevard. We can call him "H" and he's been charged with one mission: Bring real rap back.

Raised to respect the guidance of God, H presents himself as a respectable young man with a master's degree in Business Administration under his belt. A true leader to his friends, H is the cornerstone of East Brook Familia, living his daily life as an example of how to maintain: respect your family, love your art, make that money. If he's not writing or recording (or at his 9-to-5), you can find him in church on Sundays with EBF beside him, graciously sitting his niece and nephew for his older brother, Lyell, or divvying up his time amongst the many whose respect and admiration he's earned over the course of his years. If there's a cause, you can count on him to rally. If you need a hand, he'll make a way. If all you really need are some "straight off the block bars," he's got them stashed in his Blackberry or they might come straight of the top of his Brooklyn fitted. "If it's not New York or Brooklyn, I'm not wearing it," he once told me. To say H is "loved by many" would be an understatement - his whole hood is backing him. To deny his grace in this art sh*t they call rap would be damned near blasphemous.

"Too many tracks?" How the f*ck was I supposed to know? I've always wanted to be involved in the creative process of the greats, but when you get there, you realize that the most telling characteristic of a great artist is that they're great no matter what they do and especially no matter what you say.

"Not if they're dope," is what I think I said. Whatever you wanna do, is probably how I responded. If I recall correctly, the 16 he was thinking expanded to 19 tracks with skits. The energy of the project makes the songs fly by, you barely notice it's that many tracks. The only issue is, they're all so dope I want to write on them all :( H's first mix-tape, 24/7, was a supreme selection of 7 solid tracks. Part of the reason I reviewed 24/7 track-by-track was because there were only 7 songs, but mostly because I couldn't believe that I liked them all. F*ck what you all think, I had to prove it to myself. I stayed up all night dissecting the music and loving the lyrics --even when I understood them wrong. When I tweeted H my "finished" version, asking him to let me know if there were any errors, he did what most people don't do: He actually responded.

The difference between H and most "rappers" is that H isn't a rapper. He actually doesn't like the term and he prefer you label him a musician. I think he's an artist. His music and the way it's crafted actually matter to him. When I met him the first time and asked him to send me his music, he actually sent it. Most times I give an artist my card, they ask if they can contact me personally, to show me around the hood they have the audacity to rep or... "scoop" me when I'm free. Surprisingly enough, very few people actually send me music (and most of what I do get is trash). Once you're in the music/industry thing, what you begin to notice is that people care more about the clothes, parties, the attention... the b*tches --with lyrics to match. If you catch H at a show, he's probably brought some pretty ladies with him --tucked in the back somewhere you can see but can't touch --but he's busy talking to whoever plays an instrument first. If you were dope on-stage, you can expect a handshake from him as you walk off. What H says is just as important as how it sounds, which is just as important as who he collaborates with. The only official feature for HBO Vol 1 is on "Dutchess and Hennessy" with Brooklyn's own guitarist, Lawrence "Strings" Williams, current Freshman at Hampton University -- & the way that boy strokes strings can show you what love sounds like. The words, though, are all H's and he means every single one of them.

"Can I Live?" (Correct, like Jay-Z's but now version H) has been my favorite song of the project since I heard it. Everyone picks favorites for their own reasons. It's not that I enjoy this one the most, or that it's the best song (I think the entire project is brilliant) but this is the song which I respect most for its content, lyricism, artistry and honesty. I can't count to you how many times I've recited "Don't hate the haters cuz they hate so, N*gga, get it straight. Cuz even haters show you love, it's just they love to hate. See they been throwing hate at H since back in 88. It turned a n*gga heartless -8O8's and heartbreaks," and had you been at the Mixtape release/listening party back on 12.21, you could've seen how real it really is. What if every time you posted on social media, an internet thug you've already addressed hid behind a computer screen expressing his hate, his computer keys doubling as weapon and instrument? What if little men worldwide tried to sit in your chair because it made them feel almost as big as you? You could get upset and let them throw you off your game. You could say, "Go," at any moment and have your team address the situation in the fashion of "no justice. Gotta handle this the street way," and then get caught up with a case because today's thugs love courtrooms. Or... you could continue with your life, warning everybody within earshot that it's nothing to "get you hit by a n*gga that you close to... handle it discreetly," but that would just cause "Pandemonium," wouldn't it?

Rap's a tough sport because you've got to stay alive to make it to the top. Men and women have lost their lives, spirits and freedoms to this game. Once you get to the top, it's your morals and personal relationships that suffer. People test you and beg you to prove yourself. You're put into situations you've never faced before... how does a street n*gga learn how to move in a room full of vultures? I suggest you take heed to the cautions set by Hip-Hop's pros. I mean, take a look at the teams to precede which have already risen and fallen before: Bad Boy, Rocafella, Dirty Money, Young Money. Rap is a difficult genre because "real" rap is, by origin, Gangsta *shrugs*. My personal opinion about Hip-Hop and its tendency to parade violence is that... violence is real... "Street fights like Ryu, Ken you relate? From walking by, awkward eye up in a n*gga face. But see your pride gon' ride so you never take disrespect. That's why you got that hammer on the waist," H deliberately sets the scene of the life commonly seen by young men in the commonplace war zones we call our homes; our hoods. NWA's "F*ck the Police" is a song some might refer to as a throwback but the sentiments felt have never retired.

I believe the biggest test for H (and the reason I'm proud of EBF) will be in setting an example of how to maneuver this (music) world today. This sh*t is different. How do you earn and maintain respect in an industry where everyone comes at everyone? How do you gauge your reactions knowing that you will be judged on your actions as well as your music? Where do you lay the line between being a private individual and a public role model? Those are things I would hope he would consider but I'm sure he already has; his actions speak louder than his rhymes and in time all will see. Very frankly, I don't do many album reviews on here because if I don't support you as a person, I can't stand behind your art either. To me, it's all one in the same. If your art doesn't match your life... I question which is the lie. H & I see eye-to-eye on various topics, most importantly what's real and what's not. I value his opinion and honestly just wish you all would get to know him.

The best part of the project is that it makes me what to hear more. I don't just want to hear the catchy hooks or hear about what he bought, H's lyrics actually give you insight to how he thinks. "Can I Live?" provide us a sneak peak to his views on politics, classicism and racial structure, while a track like "Crush on You" give the ladies a little bit of insight into how the fellas might feel. Not saying I'm a fan of every word of the song (I'm stuck-up so sh*t just don't apply to me lol), but it's the truth of what a male mind might think from time to time. Funny enough, I know H is a gentleman regardless of those verses --it's the only place I semi-question him. I suppose it's just entertainment. Speaking of entertainment, he's not afraid to "break it down" and "party on tracks" cuz... it's been a while since his last mixtape, 24/7, but... "Holl ywood Back". H provides a steady dose of real topics resting on well paced, excellently executed, well written verses that can get you to vibe and party: It's called lyricism, people. Hip Hop's newest. Brooklyn's current finest, from what I've heard. There is little doubt that his craft will improve and the messages he's sending will continue to filter through. I'm excited for him :) Seeing as how he's a real person, I figured I'd let him talk to you a little bit. If you want to find H on Twitter or instagram... remember he's @aGnamedH...

ELLA: What is a G?

H: A G doesn't have to mean a gangster. And in my definition, it ain't. I see it like this, if you got ya shyt together you're a G. If you're all around good you're a G. The look, healthy, smarts, a master at your craft, financially sound, well balanced social life, nice threads... You're a G. Most niggas is frontin. U can't fake smarts and dollars, so… Be yaself. Canal can only get you but so far.

ELLA: Does a Gangsta fear God?

H: "God Fearing", "Fear of the Lord", "Fear no man but Christ." Most nggas don't even know what they're talking about when they say that. The word "fear," when talking about God, has nothing to do with being scared. God is Love and there's no fear in Love. "Fear of the Lord" means that you have the utmost respect for God. Respect rooted in one's love, appreciation, and admiration for God. It means that you dread the idea of offending him bc you love him that much. Nothing to do with being scared or afraid or whatever. So does a gangster fear God? Well regardless of your definition of a gangster, he should. Does a G fear God? Well I do lol

Miley Cyrus Twerks for Millions

"I haven't really seen one bad comment about my twerk video... This is the first thing! I'm like, 'I can't sing, I can't act, I'm dumb, I'm a hillbilly, but I can twerk, so, whatever.'" Miley said in an interview with Ryan Seacrest. Miley has finally made "twerking" mainstream. They can have it, I hope they kill it.

Not sure how to feel. If this is the only thing she's applauded on... I feel sad. I get to be honest on this site so here it goes: The Unicorn suit saved her. Dare I say her fair complexion saved her? Where twerking originally comes from, is not so PG. "It's a lot of booty-popping," explains little Miss Cyrus. "You can't really explain (twerking)," Cyrus added. "It's something that comes naturally. It's a lot of booty action," Actually... it's the age-old profession of the Video Hoe. As I looked for Miley's orginal video, I came across compilations that show you really where twerking comes from... It's not really a talent unless you're doing it upside down on a poll... with no hands. "I've been practicing probably for the past two years, in my own time in my living room," she said... I'm sure there are better things to practice, but hey. The video was taken by a friend, after a photoshoot. I don't think I would consider this so... base... if Miley were up to something more... productive as well. I put her in the group with the likes of Rihanna and Nicki (and you can add your own) of celebrities who have freedoms they're sharing with the world but they don't really weigh exactly what they're doing. It's a lot of empty action, if you ask me.

I'm having a difficult time, over all, trying to find out when standing in front of a camera shaking your ass became the thing to do. It's not a new thing, I know, it's just that we still haven't addressed the shame of it. Even and especially as I become involved with music, I notice female artists I run into from time to time wearing tighter and tighter clothes. Not to say I haven't given a nice 360 so the crowd can see what I look like, but when the best part of your show is when you turn around and show how you can make it jump... you've degraded your entire art. Nothing you say anymore matters. Simply, it's not respectable. I watched Nicki Minaj in French Montana's "Freaks" video... standing on a chair through almost her whole verse, with he a$$ to the camera. I needed to wash my hands --not for any good reason. It's not the first time she disgusted me, but... I just worry about the lack of diversity in images for the youth to follow.

Miley can do what she wants... everyone can do what they want. Still, we need to be weary of the images we put out for others. Regardless of it we like it or not, if people are watching you, you do put out an image. We don't all have to walk the same path but people will follow you, pay attention. Miley is still Hannah Montana. It's her only real right to fame and it's the one thing that holds her back. Instead of twerking for attention because you're upset at what he world thinks about you, perhaps you should show them how good you actually are at other things... or maybe twerking is her thing. I don't know. I'm glad she had fun, but I hope people understand the only reason that was funny and not gross was because of the unicorn onezie. Grown women shouldn't be twerking on the internet. Maybe I'm getting too old. But when exactly does one grow up?

Fendi Spring/Summer 2013

Fendi's Spring/Summer advertising campaign genuinely caught my eye. The first thing I noticed was the yellow border, as you'll see featured in your everyday magazine. Not to say the clothing isn't amazing, but I think this was a great choice for the season. With the black background, the models seem to fall a bit flat and lack luster. Adding the yellow, you've automatically added a bit of feeling to the photo. If it wasn't pink (which is my default) yellow was a pretty good choice.

As for the line for the season, if it glitters, it's mine. I love anything that sparkles. The line gave me damsel in shining armour, begging for a sword of some sort --but a clutch to match will do.

XS Restaurant (Breakfast, Asian Cuisine + More!) - Baltimore, MD

French Toast with Bananas, Blueberries and Strawberries - $8.25

XS is sooooooooooo good. 1307 N. Charles St., Baltimore MD is home to 4 floors of fabulousness. The inside structure of the place is awesome featuring exposed brick walls and winding staircases. After the BSA Fashion Show, we invited our selves to XS because they serve breakfast and Asian food all day. I started breakfast with pork shumai (fried dumplings with wasabi sauce in them. Spicy but amazing) and shimp gyoza (regular, perfect dumplings). Unfortunatley, we were too hungry to take pics of the appetizers :( Then, we had breakfast like champions :)

XS is a great place for any kind of date at any time of day. The food is of good quality and decent pricing. The drinks are also superb, from what I recall. The waitstaff is super friendly, which is always a bonus. XS is the type of place you can come dressed up to (for a date or birthday party) or you can just drop in for a casual breakfast/lunch (to make awkward faces in pictures with your friends, like I do). It's also a great place for breakfast because... some people don't like breakfast food. There are burgers and stuff on the menu for those who want to eat whatever they want (and the menu is available online). If ever you're in Baltimore and want a place to try out, this is a great spot.

Open until 12a Sunday - Thursday. Open until 2am Friday & Saturday :)

Anna Sui Medium Trip Packing Case - $595

The fashions of the world always amaze me with the pricey nuances. Who knew you could spend $395 on a suitcase that wasn't Louis Vuitton or Gucci? Truth is, there are so many different brands out there the majority of folks barely know exist. It's a shame because each product is manufactured with a particular history for a specific reason. So when it comes to brands, the real question is this: Why do they exist?

TUMI "Vapor" Carry On - $395

TUMI was founded in 1975 by a guy named Charlie Clifford who served in the Peace Corps in Peru. The name Tumi comes from the Peruvian name for a knife used in some of their spiritual ceremonies. The primary purpose of the luggage was quality, and in having to sustain whatever it is Peace Corps people do. The luggage was originally high-quality, lightweight nylon. The 1990's introduced the company to carry-on's and other business luggage. Focusing on innovation, durability and excellence of design the company is now one of the leading brands in luggage, even having a partnership with designer, Anna Sui , for an exclusive collection (see photos below).

TUMI luggage is surely durable. To be quite honest, as a girl who's spent far too much time waiting on buses which would rather be late, the TUMI was amazing in turning the "Stand-by" line into "sit-by". As I waited for Megabus's 10:30pm departure from Philly to New York (in the cold) it was a pleasure to have somewhere to sit. Not saying this is what luggage is for, but, in my opinion, it is a testament to the strength of the piece. TUMI casing features a "tough, lightweight, triple-layer ABS and polycarbonate shell" which looks a lot like plastic. The making of the shell has steel in it somewhere, which is probably the best bet for doubling as a chair ;)

360° swivel wheels >>> The most important feature, for me, in a suitcase is the swivel wheels. I won't touch one that doesn't have them. It just makes it so much easier no matter who made it. Dragging luggage is... a drag. TUMI is actually very lightweight and easy to maneuver. Also, the bold colors (of mine and the Anna Sui line) make your suitcase easily identifiable --making life a bit easier. I enjoy the TUMI luggage. If you want new luggage with guarantees and all that, TUMI is a brand to look into. They'll cost you a pretty penny, but you shouldn't have to buy luggage for a really long time. I tend to travel often enough where my luggage ends of tearing and looking old. With the TUMI polycarbonate shell, you can avoid the tearing of nylon and it looking worn. Also, if you buy the luggage in a bold pattern, you can sort of avoid seeing scratches.

There are perks for the price: Separate compartments, clothing racks, clothing bags. Mine didn't come with too many extras, but as you'll see below, TUMI is a pay-more, get more kind of brand. Keep in mind, you also pay a little more for designer partnerships. You can spend as little as $295 on a carry-on --although that's not a little for some, I understand. Still, luggage is fantastic as gifts ;)

My only complaint: I like luggage that has a handle on the side as well. The side handle makes the suitcase easier to grip when you're loading into the trunk, car, platform, whatever. I assume they've left the side handle off due to the design and how the suitcase opens, but I actually noticed it... so I WANT IT BACK! Just saying :)
