A city where two continents collide and history whispers from every corner.

A place where East meets West.

A city with a vibrant culture that explodes in a symphony of sights, sounds and exquisite flavours. I had a chance to explore this magical city many times in the past. Istanbul is a melting pot of cultures with history that spans centuries. This rich history is reflected in the city's architecture, cuisine and language. The city was once the capital of Byzantine Empire before becoming the Ottoman Empire's capital for over 500 years. Istanbul is home to a diverse population, with people from all over Turkey and the world. This diversity is evident in the city's vibrant neighborhoods, bustling markets, and lively nightlife.

And while words can hardly capture its essence and I can write volumes about this incredible city, my photos might just offer a glimpse into the enchanting city I discovered. But I believe pictures often speak louder than words. So, while I'll share a few thoughts, I mostly want my photos to transport you to the heart of Istanbul.

NARAN KAGHAN VALLEY : A Serene Stopover Towards North

Ever since I was a small girl I heard my younger sister talk about a lake in far, far lands - a lake by the name of Saif ul Muluk which, for us at that time was a place not within our reach. Just like the mythical land, Shangri-La mentioned in the famous novel of James Hilton, Lost Horizon, is a place that we could only dream about. Fast forward many years and we end up visiting Naran and Lake Saif ul Muluk countless times.

This year I had the chance to revisit Naran Valley. It's a place that holds a special place in my heart. The trip was a beautiful journey down the memory lane, but I also had a chance to see how it has changed over time. Naran Valley is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Pakistan. Located at the northwest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it is surrounded by the might Himalays and Karakoram mountain ranges.

The best time to visit Naran Valley is around the summer months from May to September. From October onwards Naran receives heavy snowfall and the roads are not accessible. We visited around mid-June which was ideal as the weather was warm during the day and cold during the night. During the monsoon season from July to September, the weather gets unpredictable. Heavy rain and landsliding are common during these months. It is advisable to check the weather forecast and road conditions before you travel.

We travelled via the Hazara Motorway also known as M-15 Motorway. Without a doubt, this motorway has significantly reduced the travel time to various tourist destinations. Crossing the tunnels reminded me of the tunnels at Attabad. To avoid traffic we decided to hit the road around 2:00 AM. Of course, the early departure means smooth roads with very little traffic. Therefore we made significant progress towards the destination.

As you get closer to Kaghan Valley, the view gets majestic. You start seeing mountaintops covered with snow. The breathtaking view sparked a nostalgic feeling. It's very hard to describe, I feel as if the mountains embrace me, welcoming me back. I believe, when you connect with nature, by stepping away from your busy life, nature reciprocates. It rewards you by offering peace of mind, and tranquillity, and bringing back happy memories. Going back to the trip - so I thought it would be "brilliant" to visit Naran Valley on a public holiday. Off course everyone else had the same "genius" idea. We spent a lot of time in a long queue which was exhausting. Lesson learned: avoid crowds like the plague, especially on holidays! Nevertheless, the weather was typical - warm sun, cool shade and freezing temperatures at night: a classic Naran experience. Finally, we checked in at the hotel and had plenty of time to rest and nap.

The next day, we planned to visit Lake Saif ul Muluk, which is only possible by the very bumpy and thrilling jeep ride! The trip to Lake Saif ul Muluk was more like Lake Shake Your Soul Muluk! Lol! Our teeth rattled more than the jeep did. Just as we thought the jeep ride couldn't get any worse, we were greeted by a traffic jam of jeeps on the mountain. I guess even the mountains have a rush hour now. Thankfully the traffic eventually moved and we arrived at the lake in one piece!

Unfortunately, the situation at the lake did not change. The beauty of the lake has been compromised over the years by the influx of tourists, vendors, shops and excessive waste. The majority of tourists like to spend time hanging around the bustling area of the lake where the shops are located. Rest of the visitors like to watch the lake from the spillway. I had a different plan in mind. We decided to avoid the crowds and walked all the way to the other side of the lake, where the glacier waters flow into the lake. I think it took us 30 minutes or more (thanks to the Mars chocolate bar I purchased). But it was totally worth it.

The glacial stream that flows into the lake carries freezing pure water, giving it its stunning turquoise hue. It is during the summer months that these glaciers begin to melt and release the icy water into the lake. As winter draws closer, snowfall blankets the surrounding mountains and eventually reaches the lake itself and transforms it into a winter beauty. Even in such harsh conditions when heavy snowfall cover the lake and Naran, some brave people try to reach the lake on foot. I have seen videos on YouTube of these groups trekking through snow to reach the frozen lake.

Anyways, once we reached the other side, it was calm and quieter. You could hear the water running into small streams and making their way to the lake. Noise from the popular side was distant and did not interrupt the view. On this side, I could actually connect with nature. I tried to feel the running water which was freezing, you cannot keep your hand underwater for more than a few seconds. Being surrounded by such raw nature made me realise how small and fragile humans are compared to the immense power of nature. It was incredible to see a few people arriving on horseback. The sight on horses against the backdrop of the lake was truly mesmerizing. We spent some time there, simply taking in the natural beauty that surrounded us. As the temperature began to drop we decided to head back to the main side of the lake. On our way, I was really craving the "bhutta" which is local corn baked in sand. It is a popular street food, especially during the winter months.

A cosy end to a memorabel trip: After a day filled with adventure we were back at the warmth and comfort of our hotel room. As the sun began to set, we sat by the window absorbing as much positivity as possible, soaking up the last bits of our trip. This journey was truely special. I felt as if I was visiting an old friend, a place I've known for years. The lake with its nostelgic charm holds a special place in my heart. I will always look forward to our next visit.

On our way back, we kept enjoying the Hazara Motorway as it winds its way through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. What a relief for travellers like us with reduced travel times offering seamless journey. Returning home from a trip like this is always a bittersweet feeling.

Miss Dior Eau de Parfum by Dior is an amber floral fragrance for women. This is the first time I used this fragrance and I instantly love it! It's young, it's fresh and it's beautifully feminine in a very sophisticated way. The voluptuous notes of amber wood combined with floral and fruity notes reciprocate the initial olfactory inspiration of Miss Dior to inspire today's youth. This bottle of floral bouquet is centred around the Californian Rose. I have displayed here a miniature bottle of Miss Dior with the beautiful Cappadocian landscape in the background. I thought the contract was magical. The full size 100ml bottle is equally beautiful, this one looked super cute.

Or when you are overwhelmed by trying out many fragrances but are unable to find a good one. It also makes an excellent luxury gift!

I went over to read reviews of other bloggers regarding this fragrance. Where most of the reviews were a 5-star rating, I came across a small number of ladies who described Miss Dior as overly sweet. In my opinion, I do not find it too sweet but then again it depends on your personal definition of an overly sweet fragrance. In my opinion, Gucci Flora and Viktor & Rolf Flower Bomb might be standing at the edge of the overly-sweet defination. Overall, I rate it as a very sophiscated designer fragrance sophisticated and recommend it to all of you!

Unfortunately for me, I could not take the ride because of the weather (it's weather-dependent!) and my health as I got sick during that time. Every morning at my breakfast table I wished to see the balloons rising in the sky. Finally, there came a few rare days when I did see them!

In this blog, I have tried to keep the text less and share as many unique photos with you so that you could feel as if you are already there! So let's start right away!

Carved by volcanic eruptions and sculpted by wind and time, Capaddocia's iconic "fairy chimneys" are truly magical. Yet these natural wonders were also home to thriving civilizations. Early Christians carved churches and monasteries into these soft rocks, leaving behind a treasure trove of frescoes.

Let's start with food!

The food here contains hearty dishes featuring lamb, vegetables and legumes. Pair your meals with local bread and sip it down with çay, the famous Turkish tea. If you have a sweet tooth do not miss the sweet treats like baklava and Turkish delights (lokum). Cappadocia's cuisine is a blend of many different flavors most of which is Turkish, Arabic and Mediterranean. Millions of years of volcanic fury carved the landscape of the region in fascinating scapes. It is a vast plateau with "fairy chimneys" almost everywhere. These whimsical formations create a very unique scene, some even have caves inside them. You can take a hike around the area and bedazzled by the rare beauty of nature. You can also the hidden cave churches where you see vibrant Byzantine frescoes which are proof the region's rich history. The vibrant colours of the sunrise and sunset at Sunset Point paint the sky in beautiful formations.

Lavender is also one of my favorite flowers. I saw the beauty of this Mediterranean herb while I visited Germany a few years back. Lavender has long been used in aromatherapy and making essential oil. Lavender is usually associated with two things: its fragrance and its color. This brings me to this amazing body wash I recently discovered from the brand Aveeno.

Aveeno Positively Nourishing Calming Body Wash is a lightly fragranced body wash that moisturizes your skin and is enriched with Lavender, Chamomile, and Ylang-Ylang, natural ingredients known for their calming benefits. I came across it while casually looking for a body wash. It comes in a nice packaging with lavender flowers on the front giving a very calming effect to the eyes. The fragrance is nice and light during the bath and the creamy lather moisturizes the skin. It is equally great for the senses. As winter is slowly approaching, this calming body wash is a perfect treat as it leaves the skin soft and smooth while you feel calm and relaxed. If you have dry skin then I would highly recommend giving Aveeno Positively Nourishing Calming Body Wash a try.

I would highly recommend Aveeno Positively Nourishing Calming Body Wash and will definitely repurchase the same one or a different one from the wide range they offer. It is however an expensive product as compared to the other over-the-counter body washes and will cost you around PKR 2500. Nevertheless, I would say give it a try once if your pocket allows, as a single bottle will last a very long time.

Magical Autumn Trip to Hunza Valley

Many years back when I first heard about the mesmerizing beauty of North Pakistan, I remember opening the map, putting my finger on one destination and saying this to my sister, ‘One day I will go to this place – Hunza Valley!’ At that time going to Hunza Valley seemed almost like finding the mythical sanctuary Shangri-la from the famous novel Lost Horizon by James Hilton. Little did I know that I would visit this breathtakingly beautiful valley in Gilgit-Baltistan sooner than later and that too three times in a row.

Wrapped in the Himalayas and the Karakoram mountain ranges, Hunza Valley is no less than heaven on earth. Heaven – not just because of the vibrant landscape this valley offers but also because of how incredibly calm I felt surrounded by the serene nature and wildlife. My favorite time to visit Hunza has always been autumn, a time when you see the valley oozing colors of fire, orange, crimson, yellow, purple and brown. It was early autumn somewhere in the start of October. As we reached close to Gilgit it started drizzling and the weather got considerably cold. As we drove into the Hunza Valley it had already rained, the cold wind forced me to pull up the car window, take out my jacket and wrap a scarf around. We made a quick stop for tea at Rakaposhi View Point which, unfortunately due to weather was hiding behind dense clouds.

We made our final stop at Hunza Serena Inn which is one of my favorite places to stay at Karimabad. This charming place will take you back in time with its landscaped gardens, fruit orchards and lush green fields. Hunza Serena Inn is nestled in the heart of Karimabad and offers you the most tranquil moments. I always admired the peace and calm in the air, the view around it, day or night is perhaps the best in entire Hunza Valley. Soon we were at Osho Marak Restaurant that offers local Hunza cuisine, Pakistani, Continental and Chinese dishes as well as a la carte menu. I remember enjoying traditional noodle soup in my room later in that night. There’s nothing more satisfying than a hot bowl of soup in the comfort of your bed.

If you are at Hunza you must not leave without visiting these two: Attabad Lake, a naturally formed lake in Gojal and Khunjerab Pass, the Pakistan-China Border, the highest border in the world at 16,000 feet. Next morning we headed towards Attabad Lake which was now accessible thought the Attabad Tunnels, also known as Pak-China Friendship Tunnels. Attabad Lake was naturally created as a result of massive landslide back in 2010. On our last visit boats were the only means of transportation if you wanted to go further up the valley. Thanks to the engineering marvel, these tunnels have considerably reduced the travel time towards Gulmit, Passu, Sost and Khunjerab Pass, the Pakistan-China border.

The beauty of Attabad Lake is absolutely bewitching! As soon as I set my eyes on the deep blue, almost sapphire like color of its water I could not think of anything else in the world. I thought I could just sit there for hours and absorb the tremendous positivity that it filled me with just by looking at it – nature indeed nourishes our soul. We could not resist taking a boat ride so we got into one. The water felt calm and the panoramic view of the lake had amazing stories to tell on each side.

It was time to get back on the road and continue our journey towards the border. The landscape and view started getting broader from this point and the valley opened wide with fields. The transition of trees from green to gold, orange, brown, crimson was as artistic as it could get. The view had enough charm to win anyone over let alone me. We drove further up crossing many villages including Sost from where we drove further to the Khunjerab National Park security check-post. The crown of Khunjerab National Park is the Markhor, a species of wild goat which is also Pakistan’s national animal. You would be very lucky, like myself to see a bunch of them climbing vertical slopes effortlessly.

The drive towards the border is the most beautiful drive I ever experienced! The fresh, calm air, snow covered peaks, plateau with grazing herds of yaks, sheep and goats. I felt as if I had stepped into another world. This is where you see the true beauty and worth of the Karakoram Highway. No doubt it is the eighth wonder of the world due to its long stretch. The temperature had dropped considerably over here though the sun was shining bright. The wind was strong and cold enough to make your hands and ears freeze. As I got out of the car I looked all around me. The barbed wire marked the border along with the monument signifying the two sides of the border, China on the right and Pakistan on the left.

The border – a barren piece of land with its vastness, its wilderness, its snow-covered peaks, and its flora and fauna reminded me of how small I and my worldly problems were. There was life striving and thriving in on such high altitude and in such extreme weather. I was filled with hope and an amazing peace of mind in this soul-free location. 30 minutes and a few clicks it was about time to get back in the car. It was almost afternoon and we had a 3 hours journey back to our luxury tent at Hunza Serena Inn. As we left the border on our way back I looking out of the window quietly. I wanted to absorb as much of this whole journey to Hunza Valley and beyond as I could.

Later that night, I ordered the traditional Hunza Noodle Soup again. I sat outside my tent under the brilliantly clear and starry sky and kept gazing at the Milky Way. The inner peace I found through the raw energy of nature all around me was simply overwhelming. I wish I could freeze time this very moment – life is beautiful.

Mesmerising Nathiagali in Winters

I can give a million reasons why I love Galiyaat especially Nathiagali. But for this post maybe I'll skip the text part and focus more on the visuals. My love for Galiyaat developed and grew because of two main reasons: my love for travel and my best friend, both of us being travel bugs! Since I reside in Islamabad, it is fairly easy to plan a trip without much, and at times, any preparations at all! Without exaggerating I can say I visit these Galiyaats almost 3-4 times a year; both in summers and in winters. Nathiagali in particular since it is not thronged by as many tourists as the nearby hill station Murree is. Nathigali is a calm place and gives you an immense feeling of being close to nature. Forested with Pine, Oak, Maple and Walnut trees, it truely is a little piece of heaven for a nature lover like myself. I believe I can never get tired of this place ever.💗

🔹 Getting There

Typically our trip starts with basic car checks. Fuel, tyre pressure, a few minor checks, extra tyre, chains etc. Our typical trip starts from Kashmir Chowk in Islamabad towards Bhara Kahu till we reach Satra Meel (approx 13 kms). Onwards you have the choice of going via either Kashmir Road or Islamabad Murree Expressway. We usually take the Islamabad Murree Expressway N75 which is a longer route but a very comfortable drive and very scenic.

🔹 What we Pack

Weather in Nathiagali remains cool and pleasant throughout the year. Summers or winters we always take warm clothes with us whenever we visit Galiyaat. During day time in summers weather is really pleasant but as soon as the sun starts to set it starts getting cold! In winters temperatures will easily go below freezing even during the day. So the best thing to do is pack some warm clothes regardless of the weather especially extra pair of socks, a water-proof jacket as it can rain, a warm cap or hoodie, boots or waterproof sneakers, gloves and scarf etc. Pick and choose what makes you feel more comfortable. I always prefer knee length socks, sneakers and winter jacket.

🔹 Where we Stay

We always prefer staying at private cottages because it feels more like a home and less like a hotel. However there are plently of options to stay in at Nathigali. Hotels, rest houses, cottages all are available with basic facilities. During peak season, it is always a good idea to book in advance to avoid not staying at a place of your choice or facilities or budget. You will also find many affordable options in Nathiagali bazaar.

🔹 What we Eat

Since we are slightly picky about food, we almost always opt for butter chicken with fried rice since we feel it satisfies our tastebuds the most. Summer or winter soups are also a must while in Nathiagali since the whole atmosphere and weather makes you crave for it even more. We love having tea or coffee from roadside vendors whenever we step out for a drive or a stroll.

🔹 What we Do

We love to be around nature so we spend most of the time outdoors either driving around or going for a walk or hike. The Nathiagali Bazaar is a great place to walk around and grab a cup of coffee, tea or even Kashmiri Chai. I always manage to buy good quality shawls for my mom and friends every time I visit. You can also find traditional clothes, handbags, decorations etc on affordable prices. Mushkpuri Hike is a wonderful way to challenge your fitness. We managed to make it to the top in around an hour. You also have the option to drive down to Dungagali and take the Pipeline Walk which is an easy 3.5 km track with breathtaking views. St. Matthews Church is another landmark standing the test of time. Made entirely of wood almost 100 years ago, it is a remnant from the days of the British. It can be reached after a steep hike from main Nathigali bazaar. Take a stroll from the church to the Governor House to enjoy the calm of nature and beautiful landscape. There's much more to discover while in Nathigali thus do so on a slow pace.

One of my favorite (and affordable) home decor items from my #Christmas2015 shopping is the Mandarin, Clove & Cinnamon Scented Candle from Marks & Spenser. As the New Year #2016 is just a day away I thought it was the best time to light up this beautiful candle and feel relaxed during this holiday season.

Mandarin, Clove & Cinnamon are the scents which have always been associated with Christmas and the holiday season. Warm winter aromas of spice cinnamon, peppery cloves, nutmeg and zesty sweet mandarin bring much need comfort and cheer to these cold days and nights. Looking at the peaceful candle nicely lit on my bedside is such a treat. I love to snuggle in my bed with a book in hand and can spend an entire day like that. Hi Lovelies,

In the last post I shared how I spent (maybe a bit too much) on Christmas decor online this year. One of the things that I really wanted to have for decoration this time around are scented candles! I love scented candles - so much so that I am not too sure if I would pick a favorite perfume or a scented candle if I come across such a situation; it will be that difficult to decide! Scented candles have such amazing aromatherapy properties and these work wonders for me! Next time you cannot decide what to buy for your lovely lady, try a scented candle.

I came across these super adorable Mandarin, Clove and Cinnamon Scented Glitter Tealights with red glitter at Marks & Spencer online. They also had Frankincense and Myrrh Scented Glitter Tealights which had gold glitter on them as well as Winter Scented Glitter Tealights with silver glitter. I personally liked red ones as these went with my Christmas tree red baubles and rest of the decoration theme around the house. Red is also a very radiant and warm color and that is what I wanted, to create a cosy ambiance around the house. And, did I mention these smell like heaven!? Though I do adore the fragrance of Frankincense as well, I believe the beautiful aroma of zesty sweet Mandarin, peppery Cloves and spice Cinnamon is a very comforting which really set the mood as this is one of the signature Christmas scents. Once lit, these are relaxing yet festive to look at and a wonderful way to cheer up during these cold days and nights.
