Earlier this week we decided to take a spur of the moment weekend trip to NYC! We lived there for 3 months when Bryce was training for his first job, and we love it there. Plus my brother and sister in law live there and we love getting to see them since it's not nearly as frequent as we'd like. The little ones are living it up at their grandparents houses and we miss them a ton but they don't miss us at all!

I don't know if it is spring fever or what but lately I want to change/redecorate/reorganize every single space in my house. I am trying to keep a handle on things but I really want to try my hand at making this chandelier. I just can't decide what room needs it...

As part of my spring cleaning fever I have been tossing around the idea of making our guest room a playroom/guest room. It seems silly to have a room dedicated to guests when they are only here a few weeks out of the year if that. However, I know a playroom would drive me nuts-o if it was just a big giant mess of crap. So I thought this post was good inspiration.

Oh hey guys! I'm kind of moving still but also kind of ignoring some of the unpacking that isn't necessary.. I'm feeling a lot more settled and it's been a calm, stress-free week. That's the way I like it. I've been spending a lot of time at the local YMCA's - they offer some seriously fun classes! A lot more options than my rec center in Utah had. It's fun and it feels great to be more active! This weekend I'm going to be touring some museums and maybe trying some crawfish? Apparently it's mudbug season here and that's a big deal. I hope y'all are up to something fun too!

These party mini buttons are so freaking awesome. They have funny things written below each person's name (not necessarily true) which would for sure get the conversations rolling. Totally doing this at my next gathering.

Also I am looking for a new purse and this one is on sale for about $25 at Target. I bet I could use a coupon and get it for even less. The crossbody style is my FAVE especially for the days I'm exploring a lot. Handbags just don't cut it sometimes, am I right?

My new obsession has three names: Cookie butter, Speculoos and Biscoff Spread. Three names seems like a lot but it's all the same delicous thing so who cares. Have you tried it? Yesterday I decided I wanted to try baking with it instead of just eating it by the spoonful like I have been, and baked donuts sounded so good. I started to gather my ingredients when I realized I would need a donut pan. I considered running to the store before realizing that there must be a better way. So I improvised with a little tin foil! Below I'm going to show you how to bake donuts without a donut pan and share the recipe for cookie butter donuts with chocolate glaze. One word: YUM.

The other day my friend Pam sent me a link to this post. I had never read Ruth's blog before, but I was really impressed by her. In this little blogosphere it is really hard sometimes to put yourself out there and talk about your family and talk about things that are close to your heart. People can be so mean and argumentative when hidden behind a screen of anonymity thousands of miles away.

When reflecting on my life I can relate with the feeling of wanting to give my children everything. I want them to be happy, I want to see their faces light up, and lets be honest, sometimes I just want them to be entertained for five minutes so I can go to the bathroom in peace! Even though my Luke bug is not even two we have somehow accumulated tons of toys and crap for him already! I am always hoping we will find his new favorite thing that he will be so excited about and play with for hours. But guess what his favorite things are?

Playing outside.

Blowing bubbles.

Going to the park.

Dancing.

Reading books.

When I become the tickle monster.

...and he could honestly do any one of those things for hours. I am realizing that it really is parents who teach kids to be consumer driven. I love how Lukey finds such joy in the simple things, and I'm going to make a renewed effort to share in that joy with him.

Thinking about all these things reminded me of one of my favorite books. It is a book that my Grandma Bickmore always read to me when I was a little girl, and now she reads it to Luke every time we visit. The book is Everybody Needs a Rock by Byrd Baylor. It is the sweetest book ever. The illustrations are beautiful (by Peter Parnall), and to me it totally captures that childhood innocence.

Do any of you use Ebates? If not, you're going to love it! Ebates is a rebate program where you sign up for the program and then you go through them to your favorite online stores and earn a percentage of cash back on each purchase! It's super great. I have been a member for a while now but I don't do a ton of shopping online with the exception of Amazon.com. BUT I can get 3% cash back on all the stuff I'm already saving on with Amazon by going through them. Awesome. And on the rare occasion that I purchase something from another online store I always go to Ebates first. Right now, they are celebrating their birthday so a lot of stores like GAP, Old Navy, Macy's, etc. are 14% cash back! Okay, no one is allowed to make fun of my lack of drawing skills. Now that that's out of the way, I am loving this mossy chalkboard door adornment. This project took me twenty minutes to do, only cost $5 and also my door is no longer naked. I kept thinking that my new neighbors were probably judging me for not having a wreath or a door mat. In reality I'm sure they weren't but my mind is at ease now either way. The Best Ever Bowtie Pasta Salad

I grew up on this pasta salad. It is UNBELIEVABLE. It is my favorite pasta salad recipe of. all. time. I literally could live off of it (oh husband, couldn't we eat this every day??) It is light, but filling. It is easy, but tastes gormet. It is unique and it is a crowd pleaser. Basically, I think it's pretty good. When I was taking pictures to blog it the hubby said "haven't you already blogged that like ten times?" I'm sorry it has taken me so long to share this my friends.

The recipe comes from mine and Sarah's bff Abigail's amazing mother Tami. Dear Tami, you should start a blog. Talk about a great cook! Anyway, Tami is one of the Vinegar ladies (you can buy their cookbook here) they teach you to make homemade vinegars (which I do now and I love). I swear vinegar makes any food yummier. However, I know most of you won't have the homemade vinegar this recipe calls for so I have adapted it just a little so I could share it with you guys today! Don't worry, this version is still super delicious!

Hey guys! Oh moving... am I right? We just got our second haul of stuff yesterday so we have a lot of unpacking to do today. Fun... Or maybe we'll just ignore it and go get some Kolaches instead!? Hehe. It will be so nice to have my kitchen unpacked that's for sure. I do have some super great links for you today.

I have had the same make-up routine since I was in high school. I've never been one to wear a lot, it's mostly just eye makeup and some bronzer or blush. Sometimes I'm a little unsatisfied with my look, but I don't know how to do anything about it. I just found this great post that talks about how to fix some of the concerns I've had! This one on contouring is super interesting too.

Since I've lived in Texas for a week and a half now, I have started noticing something called Frito Pie on the menu at most restaurants. I wasn't sure what that was, so naturally I googled it and apparently it's the dish served most often at football games and other gatherings here in the lone star state! I guess I need to try it. Pioneer Woman's recipe looks delish and easy.

This tip is awesome. Tried it this week! I bought them on Monday and they are still fresh.

This cute All About Mom questionnaire is a great idea for Moms with small kids. I am gonna print this off and have my 3 and 4 year old nephews answer these questions for Mother's Day! I am sure they will have some funny answers.

The husband and I had some pictures taken by my friend and photographer Ceebee a few weeks ago. We hadn't had any taken since our wedding, which was almost four years ago so I thought it was about time. I really like this one, and fun fact: husband gave me a noogie right after it was snapped. Homemade Bubble Solution!

My son Luke is currently obsessed with bubbles. The screen saver on my computer is bubbles and every time it comes on he dances around and says "bubble!" Naturally, he also loves blowing bubbles. The issue is, he is a very independent almost 2 year old who wants to do everything BY HIMSELF thank you very much. As you can imagine, we have spilled 10 million jumbo jars of bubbles from Walmart. Okay fine I exaggerate.. 10 thousand. Okay, okay. Maybe just 10.. but I am still totally sick of running to the store for bubble mix because it keeps him entertained and I can't resist his little "bubbles? Momma, bubbles??"

I realize store bought bubbles are not expensive, but making them yourself is not just more frugal, it is more convenient. It makes a big batch and I had everything I needed in my pantry, bonus! I left most of my bubbles untinted, but I used one drop each of food coloring in these three, and Lukey has loved bringing the colored bubbles outside to play. Also, how cute would these be for party favors?? I think I might stock up on plastic (aka: toddler friendly) containers (I am thinking empty peanut butter jars with the lids spray painted?) and give them as favors for the kids at Luke's birthday in a few months.

Biscuits from Heaven

If you have never made homemade biscuits before, make them today. I can promise you won't regret it. Here are three things I love about biscuits. 1) Biscuits are one of the most frugal foods out there, because you will almost always have all the ingredients in your cupboards no problem. 2) They are a homemade bread (I love me some carbs) that don't have to rise. What does that signify? It signifies quick, easy and last minute approved. 3) They escalate boring pantry meals and make them seem elegant and well thought out. Example, if I make husband hamburger helper, he thinks in his head "ick". If I make husband hamburger helper, toss a quick green salad and throw in some biscuits I suddenly get a "babe, thanks for dinner, it was so good." I'm talking from experience here people.

More often than not though, we eat biscuits for breakfast. Biscuits and gravy, biscuit bacon and egg sandwiches or just biscuits and jam. And you guys know how much I love my breakfast foods. We recently discovered this recipe when we had an inkling to try a new one and we hit the jackpot. Seriously the best homemade biscuits I've ever made.

I am obsessed with yard saling. It's something my husband and I love doing together, and I used to live in Utah where we enjoyed taking full advantage of every summer Saturday morning. We just moved to Houston, TX where the weather is nice most of the year and I can't tell you how crazy excited I am to be able to go yard saling way more often. I have compiled sixteen of the best tips I've learned about how to make yard saling fun and efficient - either for shopping the sales having them.

Let's get this out of the way: I know 'saling' is not a real word, but "shopping yard sales" isn't how I say it, so in an effort to be authentic I'm sharing my real, incorrect grammar with you.

YARD SALE SHOPPING:

1. Get out there early. I'm an early bird so this is easy for me but I know it isn't for all people, especially if it's your day off. Most yard sales begin between 8 and 9 AM and end early afternoon. The good stuff goes fast! There are plenty of elderly women (and me) out grabbing the goods right as the sales begin so you will want to get moving, especially if you are looking for something particular.

Sometimes I feel the need to add something with a little more color to my house. Those times I often want to go shopping, but I know that if I go shopping when that impulse comes up I'll for sure buy something I don't need. I would find a way to justify buying five new throw pillows if I bought them, but deep down I would know, it was impulsive. I might not even like the pillows by the end of the month when there's no room left in the budget to go on a fun date. One day when I had that urge, I decided to just go to Hobby Lobby and give myself a $10 budget. Then I found these cardboard letters and used some acrylic paint I already had, and boom. I was happy then, and I still love them now!

The first time I made this recipe was in my eighth grade foods class. I don't know why but I am finding that seriously funny right now. It was one of the first recipes I ever made on my own and I remember thinking, "oh my gosh, this is soooo good.. I made this!" Little did I know that they start you off with stuff so easy it can hardly even be deemed a recipe.

But, since when did I ever have a problem with easy??

I love this drink because it tastes like a dessert but really isn't that bad for you. It is perfect for summer when I want my little man to stay hydrated but he is sick to death of water and deserves a little treat. I also love to serve this (in smaller portions) as a juice with our frequent country breakfasts (eggs, hashbrowns, bacon etc.). Soooo good.

Yesterday I started tackling the project of refinishing my old oval/tile forest green table. My Grandparents gave it to us when we got married and I am finally getting around to refinishing it! I can't wait to show you guys.

Today I am going to share something personal with you guys. The day after Nora was born, my cousin Tyler and his beautiful wife Mandy gave birth to a perfect little boy, Marshall. He was a mirco preemie, born at 27 weeks and weighing less than a pound. His parents began sending out emails to the family from Marshall, detailing his surroundings, the experiences he was going through and struggles they were facing. It was amazing to read those sweet emails. They were uplifting, funny and touching all at once. We prayed for him constantly. 2 1/2 months into Marshall's short life he passed away. We were devastated.The night of Marshall's death we received this email. I can't explain how it helped to uplift and inspire me. For those of you who may be grieving, I hope it will do the same for you. For those of you who aren't, I hope you will reach out and say a prayer for my cousin and his sweet family.

The poem/book "You Are My I Love You" by Maryann Cusimano Love is my absolute favorite ever. Honestly, it just really speaks to me. Luke loves it and he has been bringing it to me at least four times a day, which I love. Often times as I read it aloud to him and Nora, I tear up. There is just so much truth in this sweet poem. SNAP Conference 2013

SNAP! Conference was this last weekend, and I can't even begin to say how much I loved it! I thought today I would share a little bit about the conference and what I learned there. It honestly was exactly what I needed.

SNAP is a blogger conference where bloggers can pay to go take classes, listen to speakers, network with sponsors and of course, meet new friends! I had never been to a conference before and to say I was nervous would be an understatement. Sarah couldn't come with me and so I was testing the waters all by myself. When I arrived at SNAP I was worried, excited and had no idea what to expect... and I loved every minute.

I left SNAP not only feeling motivated to be a better blogger, but to be a better person. I was amazed at the way in which the teachers generously shared things that had made them successful. I loved how the speakers were focused not entirely on blogging, but on how to balance a crazy hobby/job that no one else really understands with the things that are most important in life, like home and family. The sponsors were incredible, generous, and sincerely interested in what this blog was about. I didn't meet a single woman there who made me feel stupid for reaching out. I know that I made friendships in just a few short days that will last for a very long time.

I'm so grateful to my sweet husband and mother in law for taking care of my babies so that I could relax knowing they were in great hands.

I feel like I left with a renewed sense of self. I am a wife first, a mommy second and a blogger third. I genuinely love what I do and I am continually humbled by the fact that so many of you like this blog enough to stick around.

What's a post without some pictures?? I apologize for the bad quality photos, most were taken with my phone. I am bummed that there are so many amazing ladies that I didn't get a picture with, but here are a few of the ones I got. I am in love. What's new right? I'm always talking this way about food. It's true though. I have actually created a dish that is a KEEPER. Since I made it for the first time a few weeks ago, we've eaten it five more times. That's about twice a week, friends. The best part about this meal, is that the sweet pork is something you can make a big batch of ahead of time in your slow cooker. Then you just pull a portion out of the freezer when you're ready to make these with it and you're prep time is only about 20 minutes. Bam. My kind of dinner.
