eePC laptop has WiMAX inside

EEPC wins design award at CES, will ship with "WiMAX inside"

ASUS, an Indian manufacturer of laptops (one of the world's largest) won an award for innovation for its eePC small (7" screen) laptop at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. What's also significant about the eePC is that ASUS will integrate WiMAX in it making it the first laptop to ship with "WiMAX inside". I'm using quotation marks here with care as Intel has announced plans to use the two-word phrase "WiMAX inside" for marketing with its ecosystem partners. The eePC currently ships with Wi-Fi.

The next version of the eePC will ship with a larger (8.9") screen and with WiMAX. This should put ASUS ahead in the race toward getting a native WiMAX laptop on the market. In addition to the consumer market, a WiMAX-enabled eePC should do well in education markets where a school district or university could deploy WiMAX "native" for student and faculty use. The WiMAX-enabled eePC could also have a quick uptake in enterprise markets as well especially for mobile workers.

Coffee Shops Unplug Laptop Users; WiMAX Plugs Them Back In

You may have seen the recent report from The Wall Street Journal on how many coffee shops in New York City are putting an end to computer usage in their stores. For those of us, especially people who may work from home and want a change of scenery, or students taking a break from the library, coffee shops and laptops go hand-in-hand. In fact, it’s rare to be in a coffee shop and not see someone on their computer and more than likely, on the Internet the majority of that time.

While it is understandable shops are frustrated people will sit in their store for hours, buying only a cup of coffee, there is an alternative to banning laptops from cafes. Like a dog tethered to a leash, consumers are restricted when it comes to Wi-Fi hot spots, normally found inside, when trying to get on the Internet. But here is the shameless plug… mobile WiMAX is just that - mobile!

When a story like this is written, it reminds me how lucky I am to live in Portland, OR where WiMAX is a reality and the combination of coffee shops and the Internet are so last season. I can use my computer and get a super-fast wireless broadband connection while sitting outside on a park bench, riding the MAX public transportation or even on the freeway at 60 miles an hour (in the passenger seat of course). In places like Baltimore, people can even connect to the Internet with WiMAX on boats!

With WiMAX, the possibilities for connectivity are endless. In addition to my own fair city, Baltimore, Las Vegas and Atlanta can enjoy WiMAX today and Clearwire is slated to launch service in New York next year, so soon New Yorkers can soon have their coffee and log on too!

Wimax the Future Technology for Netbook / Laptop

WiMAX is not WiFi
Currently, the inclusion of mobile WiMAX chips in laptops is often cited as a key indicator of future mobile WiMAX success. Advocates of mobile WiMAX point to the impact of WiFi-equipped laptops and how this use created the demand for increasingly higher annual WiFi shipments. The same impact is predicted for WiMAX equipment as well as carrier acceptance for WiMAX in the near future by these same advocates.

In reality, the only similarity between WiFi and mobile WiMAX is that both are what they are, wireless technologies. But to render any comparison between the two beyond that simple fact and to project market success from such comparisons is risky at best. Understanding why WiFi actually succeeded and how the WiMAX and WiFi markets differ is crucial to refuting dubious assumptions regarding the impact of laptop WiMAX.

Why WiFi has Blossomed
WiFi gained widespread acceptance due to standardization, a multitude of applications and resulting price point reductions. But above all else the widespread acceptance was due to the proliferation of consumer broadband and the subsequent desire of consumers to access that connection from multiple computers within their home. Inclusion of WiFi within laptops, which is often cited as a major contributor to the success of WiFi, came after growth patterns were already established.

The initial success and much of its subsequent growth of WiFi use is a product of a meaningful application utilizing WiFi access, i.e., the use of portable broadband within the house or small business. The success was not due to Intels decision to promote WiFi within laptops, although marketing never hurts.

A World without Cable/DSL
Eliminate widespread consumer of adoption of DSL and cable modems from the equation and a very different history of WiFi would have ensued. Would consumers care about laptop WiFi if they lacked broadband connections in their home or small business? Not likely.

But wait, surely both consumers and businesses would still employ those WiFi equipped laptops to access hot spots, right? Possibly, but one must factor into the equation the cold fact most hot spots are backhauled by consumer grade DSL and cable modems. So, once again, the outcome may have been very different without the widespread availability and acceptable price points for DSL or cable modem access.

The Differences
WiFi is ultimately a consumer accessible technology while WiMAX is a carrier platform. Consumers and businesses are building WiFi infrastructure and operating it in unlicensed frequency bands and they can do so by purchasing a sub $200 WiFi kit at a local electronics retailer. Purchase of a laptop with WiFi may actually stimulate further deployment of WiFi routers and other infrastructure, typically to share broadband access. It may also stimulate owners of that device to employ hot spots which have been built out by consumers, municipalities, coffee shops, airports, etc and which are typically backhauled by inexpensive DSL/cable technologies.

In contrast, mobile WiMAX base stations are priced well beyond the means of consumers and small businesses at thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars, for a macro base station. The most attractive bands for WiMAX use, which are 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz, are licensed to wireless carriers so to use these networks, most likely, you will have to wait for them to be built and then pay monthly for usage.

In addition, unlike WiFi, WiMAX has no killer app. The benefits of mobile WiMAX to consumers or carriers remain unclear as does the actual performance of mobile WiMAX. Yes, carriers want an IP network and mobile WiMAX can provide that, but numerous simulations suggest a minimal to negative capacity advantage compared to HSDPA/HSUPA unless MIMO, which carriers are reluctant to accept due to the cost of placing more antennas on towers, is included on the WiMAX side and excluded from WCDMA (not exactly a fair fight). Questionable performance gains over existing technologies suggest that an economic incentive to deploy or use mobile WiMAX is also MIA at this time.

Laptop WiMAX Advantage
So what advantage does placing WiMAX in laptops bring to the market? It reduces the cost of subscriber equipment subsidies and it could place a sizable quantity of user devices in circulation. These attributes enhance the value prospect of mobile WiMAX to carriers and they should drive down the cost of mobile WiMAX devices, which is also attractive. However, we must keep in mind that deployment of national networks requires a mass market to depreciate cost. Mobile markets are defined by phones not laptops. Widespread inclusion of mobile WiMAX in mobile phones is the more important metric.

In Summary
Mobile WiMAX will not enjoy the same lift from its inclusion in laptops that WiFi enjoyed and that latter influence has been overstated. Carrier investments in previous technology migration paths, questionable performance advantages of WiMAX and high risk aversion amongst carriers are major road blocks to mobile WiMAX success, as is the carriers' reluctance to deploy new technologies. Placing WiMAX in a laptop will not overcome these obstacles nor can it empower consumers as WiFi has done.

OpenSuse 10.2 On Relion Laptop

My school have a laptop, Relion AMD 64 1.8G with 1 G of RAM and VIA Chipset with Ralink Wireless and S3 Unichrome Pro VGA.
I decided to install OpenSuse 10.2 32 bit because I haven't got the 64bit CDs. I've got all the five CDs + 2 Add On Cds plus some packages from Linux Magazines. I chose Suse because it gives me lots of package in the cds and if I don't have internet connection I still be able to install the programs that I want. So I start intalling...
No problems from start until I see the desktop. With add on Cds I can get Helix, Java, and some other programs to run.

At the core of VIA TwinTurbo technology is a unique design implementation that enables high speed changes to the processor operating frequency, fully complementing VIA PowerSaver™ technology in extending battery life, and enhancing on-demand performance.

How It Works

In modern digital devices, high frequency clocks required for operation are generated by a specialized device called a Phase-Lock Loop (PLL). In a traditional processor, the frequency of the processor generated by the PLL is fixed once activated, and stays at that frequency until powered down. The latest mobile processors, however, integrate technologies which allow the processor to vary in frequency and voltage based on the system demands placed upon the processor which is controlled by an internal function called "P states".

A significant limitation of competitor mobile processors is that in order for those processors to change frequency due to a change in P states, the processor must suspend all operations, unlock the PLL, move the PLL to the new frequency, relock the PLL, and resume operations in the processor. In the case of the Intel® Pentium® M processor, this operation causes it to effectively pause for roughly 15,000 clock cycles.

The VIA C7-M processor with VIA TwinTurbo technology delivers a unique solution to this problem that integrates two phase lock loops, effectively eliminating any transitional delay. When the processor changes P states, as controlled by VIA PowerSaver technology, the processor will continue to operate at the frequency of the first PLL, while the second PLL will move to the required frequency dictated by the P state. The VIA C7-M processor can then jump from the frequency of the first PLL, to the new frequency of the second PLL in one clock cycle, completely eliminating the transition delay experienced by competitors' implementations.

VIA TwinTurbo Benefits

This ability of the VIA C7-M processor with VIA TwinTurbo and VIA PowerSaver technology to make ultra fast transitions between frequencies has a pronounced effect both on system performance and power consumption, which is paramount for today's mobile devices.

When the VIA C7-M processor is in a low power (low operating frequency) mode, and there is a sudden demand for performance, VIA TwinTurbo technology enables the VIA C7-M processor to instantly respond to the system demands with no delay that might cause the system to "stutter" in responding to a task.

Alternatively, when the VIA C7-M processor is operating in a high performance (high operating frequency) mode, and there is a drop in the performance demand, VIA TwinTurbo technology enables the CPU to quickly drop the operating frequency, instantly reducing power consumption and extending operation when running on finite power supplies such as batteries.

As this figure illustrates, VIA TwinTurbo enables the VIA C7-M processor to instantly respond to CPU load increases and decreases, as opposed to a competitors implementation.

Conclusion

VIA TwinTurbo Technology delivers significant benefits to mobile users, extending battery life in mobile systems and also ensuring consistent performance when required. VIA's C7-M Processor Lineup

Like Intel and AMD, VIA has opted to use a cryptic naming scheme for its mobile processors, divorced from any practical subjects like processor speed. Let's take a look at the initial release of the tiny C7-M series:

C7-M 795: 2.0GHz, 533MHz bus
C7-M 785: 1.8GHz, 533MHz bus
C7-M 765: 1.6GHz, 533MHz bus
C7-M 754: 1.5GHz, 400MHz bus

All processors here are built with the 90nm SOI manufacturing process, and the NanoBGA2 packaging mentioned above. Future versions of the VIA C7-M will migrate to an 800MHz bus, though VIA has not mentioned anything about speed grades above 2.0GHz.

Chipsets for the VIA C7-M Processor

Unsurprisingly, only VIA is currently making chipsets for the VIA C7-M processor. It currently has three initial offerings:

VIA VN800: This chipset will feature FSB speeds of 400MSHz, 533MHz and 800MHz with support for both DDR and DDR2 memory. It will use VIA's Unichrome Pro graphics processor with MPEG 2 decoding support.

VIA VN600:This chipset will also feature FSB speeds of 400MSHz, 533MHz and 800MHz with DDR and DDR2 RAM support. The Unichrome Pro graphics adaptor is again featured, this time with a DVI output and TV-out. Other Additions are SATA support, HD audio courtesy of VIA's Vinyl audio.

VIA VN600-M: Same as the VN-600 with the addition of HDTV-out abilities and MPEG 2/4/WMV9 acceleration.

VIA seems to be consciously working to compensate for the weaker aspects of the VIA C7-M processor by integrating certain features into the above chipsets. The addition of MPEG acceleration and the capable VIA Vinyl audio codec to the capabilities of the processor should make for much more well-rounded and multimedia capable ultra-light notebooks. Sadly, none of the above chipsets support PCI Express in any way, shape or form. While this is irrelevant in the current laptop market, the same is unlikely to be true in a few months time.

An Interesting Dark Horse

VIA's desktop chipset business has been on the decline for a while, and the companies previous lines of processors have caused barely a ripple in world markets. Unfortunately, low power consumption and heat are not a primary concern of most desktop computer consumers and the C3-M mobile processor was just not powerful enough to compete with other mobile processor alternatives. The VIA C7-M shares its predecessor's excellent thermal and power characteristics, but it might just be powerful enough to become a VIAble third option for notebooks in which battery life and portability is a major concern.

The Padlock co-processor's security and encryption features are interesting, but not particularly applicable to most consumer applications (except for the NX bit technology). In certain business environments or in a more paranoid future though, they may latch on well enough to become standard features in other company's processors. We'll be interested to see how and if the Padlock speeds up applications using RSA and IPSEC encryption.

The VIA C7-M's tiny size and thermal capabilities will definitely help it's chances in the laptop market, though the lack of PCI Express support in VIA's chipset lineup will not. As things appear now, look for VIA C7-M CPUs to appear in ultra-portable and budget laptops near you before the end of the year. As we said earlier in the article, Transmeta's demise has left a hole in the laptop market which VIA seems well-positioned to fill.

VIA C7-M is family of mobile microprocessors designed for slim notebooks and ultra portable devices. The family was introduced five days after the C7 family, and has the same features as the C7 microprocessors: large 64 KB level 1 instruction and data caches, exclusive 128 KB level 2 cache, quad-pumped Front Side Bus, support for SIMD instructions up to SSE3, and Padlock security engine. The Padlock engine is a suite of security technologies consisting of Secure Hash engine for SHA-1 and SHA-256 algorithms, AES encryption, two Random Number Generators, and NX protection bit (similar to AMD's Enhanced Virus protection and Intel's Execute Disable bit). The C7-M CPUs have a few power-saving modes that greatly reduce power consumption when the CPU is idle. The C7-M processors also incorporate Enhanced PowerSaver feature that reduces CPU's frequency and core voltage, thus reducing processor's power consumption, when maximum system performance is not required. The Enhanced PowerSaver is similar to Intel's Enhanced SpeedStep technology.

There are two different models of C7-M processors - model A with CPUID 06Axh, and model D with CPUID 06Dxh. Model D processors incorporate a few improvements to Enhanced PowerSaver and Thermal Monitor features. Models A and D can be visually identified from a lot number - model A processors have a lot number starting from "D6", and model D CPUs have a lot number starting from "B9".

Many mobile C7 microprocessors are packaged in small, 21mm x 21 mm (less than 1 inch by 1 inch) Ball Grid Array package. One of the C7-M processors is offered in very small (11 mm x 11 mm) package, and a few models were manufactured in 478-pin micro-PGA package, which is compatible with socket 479 motherboards.

"They (Netbooks) are small laptops that are designed for wireless communication and access to the Internet. And they cost about $500, making Netbooks a potentially disruptive and high volume market segment. Even though Netbooks won’t be confused with full-featured laptops, my hunch is that tons of people around the world will be attracted to a low-cost machine that plugs them in. The Netbook will expand the global PC market. By how much is a matter of conjecture."

Is a Netbook right for me?

"In more mature markets, I see a second major usage model for Netbooks. They will become supplemental PCs and ready access points into the cloud of Internet services, media and information. I imagine an extra PC for traveling, an extra PC for school work for the kids, a PC set up in the kitchen by the telephone to look up directions to the little league field or select items from a restaurant’s takeout menu. Is it crazy to imagine a profusion of these things in mature markets? Maybe not when the price of a Netbook is well below what it costs to take a family to a major sporting event. This 2.5-inch hard drive comes in 250-, 320-, 400-, 500-GB capacities and capables to withstand shock up to 400G/2ms while operating. It also boasts a new controller to reduce power consumption in seek mode by up to 25 percent over conventional 2.5-inch drives. Other specs include a 5400rpm spindle speed, 8MB cache, native command queuing and a 3.0Gbps SATA interface. Linpus rolls out Linux-based OS aimed at low-cost laptops / UMPCs

While its claim of being the "first" to offer an OS specifically designed for the latest crop of low-cost laptops and UMPCs may be a little dubious, the unfortunately-named Linpus is at least pretty quick to jump on the bandwagon. To that end, the company's just let loose its Linpus Linux Lite OS, which it says will run just fine on laptops like the Eee PC and Cloudbook, or any other system with as little as a 500MHz CPU, 128MB of RAM and 512MB of storage. Just as importantly, the OS is also apparently designed with low-res 7-inch screens in mind, although as CLUMPC points out, it doesn't go so far as to include support for little things like built-in WiFi out of the box. Still, if you want to give it a shot, you can grab it now in the form of a Live CD direct from Linpus.

Everex CloudBook First Thoughts Review

The Everex CloudBook marks the latest entry to the expanding world of UMPC-type subnotebooks at affordable prices. With a 7-inch display, 1.2GHz processor, and 30GB hard drive, the CloudBook certainly doesn't make a very good desktop replacement computer, but it does look like one impressive little road warrior. What did we think of the CloudBook after one day in our office? The answers may surprise you.

The Everex CloudBook (starting at $399) is available in just one configuration at the time of this writing. Our CloudBook has the following specifications:

Battery

The CloudBook uses a four-cell lithium-ion battery. Everex claims five hours of battery life on the CloudBook, but our tests under gOS suggest the battery life is closer to three hours, and after installation of Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium the battery life was likewise looking closer to three hours.

First Impressions

The CloudBook is an impressive design with some innovative features and some reasonably impressive specs for the $400 price tag. However, it's clear that VIA and Everex had to make the number of sacrifices to bring this ultra-mobile notebook to the market for such a low price.

The low-capacity slow hard drive, and slow overall performance make the CloudBook a less than compelling purchase compared to the current generation Asus Eee PC 4G ... despite the much smaller storage space. We reserve final judgment for our full review, but we certainly hope the CloudBook performs better under Windows Vista than it has under the default gOS version of Linux. Stay tuned for our full review of the Everex CloudBook in a few days.

Performance

The CloudBook has generally acceptable performance based on the 1.2GHz VIA C7-M ultra low voltage processor. That said, initial benchmarking suggests the performance on this processor is comparable to much slower 700MHz Intel processors. We will have detailed benchmarks in our full review coming in the near future. In a nutshell, Everex had to sacrifice some performance in order to bring this ultra-mobile laptop to consumers for only $400.

The VIA UniChrome Pro integrated graphics processor should provide adequate performance for some games with minimal system requirements. That said, don't expect this notebook to play the latest graphics-intense games ... we're not dealing with a dedicated graphics card here and in some cases the UniChrome Pro is less powerful than Intel integrated graphics.

The 30GB hard drive in the CloudBook provides a reasonable amount of storage but isn't anywhere near the amount of storage that most consumers are likely to want in a modern laptop. Sure, you've got enough storage for travel needs, but if you download tons of music, movies, and TV shows from iTunes and store them on the CloudBook's hard drive then you'll quickly run out of space. Additionally, the slow 3600rpm speed of the 30GB hard disk means the CloudBook wastes a large amount of time trying to access data.

Although the CloudBook offers significantly more storage space than its main rival, the Asus Eee PC 4G, the Eee PC uses a much faster integrated flash drive/SSD. In short, the hard drive on the CloudBook is yet another handicap this system didn't need.

PROSESOR VIA untuk notebook? Anda mungkin jarang mendengarnya. Memang, populasi perangkat yang menggunakan prosesor VIA sangat terbatas jumlahnya. Biasanya prosesor tersebut digunakan sub-notebook berukuran 7-9 inci, atau netbook yang belakangan sedang populer itu. Ini sesuai dengan karakteristik prosesor VIA yang ‘dingin’ dan hemat listrik sehingga tidak butuh casing atau batere berukuran besar.

Karena itu, kami agak tekejut ketika mendapati Relion merilis notebook 12,1” yang menggunakan prosesor VIA C7-M 765 (1,6GHz). Diberi nama Enduro RL311, notebook ini sepertinya memang tidak mengejar performa. Yang menjadi daya tarik utamanya adalah harganya yang cuma Rp. 4,95 juta. Sekadar perbandingan, notebook kelas 12,1” paling murah saat ini dibandrol di harga Rp. 6 jutaan

Jika ditilik, tidak ada yang istimewa dari sisi penampilan notebook ini. Bahan plastik berwarna coklat yang mewarnai sisi dalamnya sedikit bertekstur, sehingga jejak sidik jari tidak mudah tercecer di sini.

Tidak seperti notebook kebanyakan, kita tidak banyak menemui tombol shortcut di sisi bawah layar. Tercatat cuma satu tombol untuk menyalakan Windows Media Player. Satu tombol lagi adalah untuk menyalakan fasilitas Wi-Fi yang diposisikan di sisi depan notebook. Anda juga tidak menemukan Webcam di atas layar, yang agak mengherankan karena nyaris semua notebook masa kini sudah dilengkapi fasilitas ini.

Di notebook ini tersedia 84 papan kunci. Ketika dicoba, kami merasa ukurannyaterasa pas dan setiap kunci terasa responsif saat ditekan. Alhasil kami tidak merasa kesulitan mencapai kecepatan ketik standar kami. Yang sedikit mengganggu adalah penempatan tombol FN di sisi paling kiri bawah, karena biasanya posisi itu ditempati tombol Ctrl. Ini agak menyulitkan kami yang terbiasa menggunakan tombol Ctrl. Namun bagi banyak orang, penempatan ini mungkin tidak terlalu menjadi masalah.

Layarnya memiliki tingkat terang (brightness) yang bagus, cuma viewing anglenya agak terbatas di vertikal. Untungnya engsel notebook ini bisa diatur hingga 180o, sehingga leluasa diatur kemiringannya sesuai sudut pandang pengguna.

Dari sisi performa, notebook ini memang bukan untuk kegiatan komputasi kelas berat. Jika melihat hasil penguian kami—yang melibatkan proses konversi video dan audio—performa notebook ini terasa pas-pasan. Mini Laptops are perfect for students, travelers and just about anyone who wants a light, portable laptop. Once you have determined that a mini laptop, also known as a netbook, suits your needs you will need to decide which model is right for you. While they all share some common characteristics; screen size between 8.9 and 10.2 inches, light weight and small form factor, there are some differences.

Screen Size: Most mini laptops have a screen that is either 8.9 or 10.2 inches.

Pro: The benefit of a larger screen is that it increases readability.

Con: The increased screen size increases the weight of the laptop and potentially decreases battery life. It also increases the overall size of the laptop.

Hard Drive (Storage): Mini laptops are available with either a solid state drive that uses memory chips or a traditional hard drive with platters and a read/write head.

Pro: Solid State Drives are typically faster because there is no read/write head to move and less likely to fail, again due to the lack of moving parts.

Con: Solid State Drives for laptops are currently available in sizes ranging from 8GB to 64GB. This is small in comparison to the standard 160GB hard drive.

If you choose a mini laptop with a solid state drive you can use an external usb drive for additional storage and backup.

Operating System: Windows XP or Linux

Pro: The benefit of Linux is that it requires significantly less space on the hard drive and is faster.

Con: Programs designed for Windows, which are most programs in the consumer market, do not run on Linux.

While programs such as OpenOffice, a free Office suite similar to Microsoft Office, have Linux versions, unless you are a technical user who likes to tweak things to make them work it's best to purchase a mini laptop with Microsoft XP installed.

Battery: 4 cell or 6 cell

Pro: 6 cell batteries typically have a longer battery life than 4 cell batteries.

Con: 6 cell batteries weigh slightly more and are more expensive.

Unless you are going to keep your laptop plugged in all the time or your budget simply can't stretch any further, select a mini laptop with a 6 cell battery.

Once you have found a laptop with your desired screen size, hard drive, operating system and battery it's important to determine if you would prefer a mini laptop with the newer Wireless N and if integrated Bluetooth is important to you. Keep in mind that Wireless N is backward compatible with Wireless B/G. If your desired laptop does not include integrated Bluetooth be aware that low cost Bluetooth adapters are widely available. The last decision is color. Some models of mini laptops are available in various colors such as black, blue, pink, green, red and more.

Should I buy a laptop or a desktop PC?

What advantages does a laptop offer?

TEMPO Interaktif, Jakarta: Setelah lama tak kedengaran kabarnya, perusahaan komputer PT Berca Cakra Teknologi kembali meramaikan pasar dengan produk-produk terbarunya. Perusahaan komputer merek Relion ini meluncurkan empat produk sekaligus di Jakarta hari ini.

Keempat produk itu adalah dua model komputer pribadi, yaitu mini PC Adroid dan Relion Ares, dan dua komputer jinjing: RL311 dan Adrena. Tiga di antaranya memakai prosessor Intel Atom dan satu memakai VIA, prosessor buatan Taiwan.

“Kami mencoba menghadapi krisis ekonomi global ini dengan produk-produk berharga ekonomis,” kata Djoenaidi Handojo, Direktur PT Berca Cakra Teknologi.

Adrena adalah salah satu produk yang menarik. Ia adalah netbook berlayar 10 inci pertama di dunia yang sudah dilengkapi dengan slot kartu 3G yang mendukung HSDPA. Ia pun dilengkapi fitur keamanan fingerprint dan pemancar Bluetooth.

Harganya memang berada di atas produk netbook dari perusahaan lain. Berca membanderolnya seharga US$ 750.

"Kami memang tak mau bertempur di pasar yang sudah ramai pemainnya, itulah mengapa kami membidik segmen khusus, celah yang tak diambil oleh pesaing," kata Djoenaidi.

Untuk diketahui, netbook dengan 3G baru ada pada netbook Mini Inspiron dari Dell. Tapi netbook ini belum diluncurkan ke pasar. Begitu juga netbook dengan pemancar Bluetooth, Relion melenggang tanpa pesaing.

Adapun Relion Ares adalah produk yang dibanderol paling murah, hanya US$ 200 dengan spesifikasi lengkap, plus monitor, keyboard, dan tetikus. “Kami harap bisa bekerjasama dengan Departemen Pendidikan Nasional untuk mendukung program komputer sekolah dengan produk ini,” kata Djoenaidi.

Adapun RL311 adalah laptop 12 inci yang memakai prosessor VIA. Meski berspesifikasi lengkap, laptop ini ditempatkan di segmen antara laptop berlayar lebar dan netbook.

Nah, produk lainnya adalah Mini PC Adroid. Inilah komputer yang hanya membutuhkan daya listrik 60 watt saja dalam mengoperasikan dirinya. Di pasar, produk ini bersaing dengan EeeBox dari Asus.
