They are now out of print so have been added to the Classics collection. They were designed to look good in one colour of thread. Now you can stitch them in whatever colours you choose.

The illustration is from the butterflies set and shows it stitched in Kreinik confetti pink metallic thread. This would make a beautiful card for birthdays or anniversaries.

This beautiful baby card was made using the Stitching Cards Pram pattern.

The pram is stitched in lilac and green thread with a blue border. These colours are cleverly echoed in the squares of the background paper and the lettering. This shows amazing attention to detail.

The flowers entwining the numbers were inspired by some of the flowers that I used on the William Morris Pinbroidery patterns.

I made a number card for my wife who recently celebrated a birthday with a zero on the end. She had organised some celebrations to mark this event so her age was no secret. I was amazed when someone who saw it said they did not approve of number cards. Maybe they do not like the thought of revealing their age in this way. What do you think? I usually suggest something featuring flowers combined with suitable words. A thread about words of sympathy on the Form-A-Lines forum had contributors suggesting some beautiful and heartfelt sentiments. One contributor summed it up with "It is always useful to have appropriate words to express our thoughts at such difficult times, though hope I don't need them often!"

I am occasionally asked to suggest a stitching card pattern suitable for a sympathy card. I usually suggest something featuring flowers combined with suitable words. A thread about words of sympathy on the Form-A-Lines forum had contributors suggesting some beautiful and heartfelt sentiments. One contributor summed it up with “It is always useful to have appropriate words to express our thoughts at such difficult times, though hope I don’t need them often!”

Here are the suggestions:

Native American Saying

May the stars carry your sadness away,
May the flowers fill your heart with beauty,
May hope forever wipe away your tears,
And, above all, may silence make you strong.

By Chief Dan George, Native Canadian Indian.

The following words come from a lovely poem that was read at the Queen Mother’s funeral service.

She is gone

You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived

You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday

You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Written 1981 by David Harkins, Cumbria, UK.

Heartache

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal,
love leaves a memory no one can steal.

Extract from a poem by Alexandrea Faith Knapp.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same.

You could cry because he died,
Better to smile because he lived.

The new snowboarding prick and stitch pattern added at the Stitching Cards web site would make a great card for snowboard enthusiasts or anyone who loves winter sports.

Snowboarding started in the Untied States in the mid 1960s and grew in popularity becoming a Winter Olympic Sport in 1998.

There are a number of claims for the invention of the first snowboard:

Sherman Poppen designed a board for his daughter in 1965. It was a skateboard without wheels steered with a hand held rope. The design was developed and marketed as the Snurfer. In 1979 the first ever World Snurfing Championship was held near Grand Rapids, Michigan.

An east coast surfer called Dimitrije Milovich began snowboarding by sliding on cafeteria trays. In 1972 he formed a company making snowboards with the feel of surfboards.

In Wales, UK, skateboarders Jon Roberts and Pete Matthews developed a board made of plywood with foot bindings. This was used on a dry ski slope at Ogmore-by-Sea in 1976.

Snowboarding was recognised as an official sport in 1985 when the first World Cup was held in Zürs, Austria.

Snowboarding reached a peak in popularity in 2004 when there is said to have been 6.6 million participants world wide.

This number had dropped to 5.1 million snowboarders by 2008. This is partly due to ski manufacturers producing more innovative and attractive skis.

An industry spokesman said that most snowboarders are 18–24 years old. Females constitute 25% of participants.

I enjoy skiing and have tried snowboarding. It can be fun and challenging but for me skis win hands down on chair lifts and for manageability. Do you participate in winter sports? If so are you a snowboard or ski enthusiast?
