The Eddystone Trust have announced the regional Positive SW 2014 event will take place on Monday 1st December in Taunton (yes, on World AIDS Day!). It is the first event of its kind inviting everyone from across the South West (including Bristol, Bath, Gloucestershire and right down to the Isles of Scilly) to come together for an inspiring day of speakers, workshops, films, food, chill out space, and coming together. Visit the Eddystone Trust Website for more information and to book your place. To complement the above event Pride in Plymouth are organising an evening event bringing people together in the city with a candle lit vigil, speakers, and poetry readings. We will gather from 6.30pm with the minutes silence at 7pm followed by the speakers – Hopefully this will give time for people returning from Taunton to attend. Our chosen venue is the recently refurbished Drakes Place Garden on North Hill which
Read More...

However as there is another fantastic TDOR event happening in the region, it therefore makes more sense for us to promote and support that event rather than hold our own on the day. Pride in Plymouth are offering FREE transport from Plymouth to Torquay on November 20th please note spaces are limited and will be offered on first come first served basis – So please contact us if you would like to take advantage of this. Join the event on Facebook We then intend to use the remaining money to facilitate a trans awareness event in January 2015. During this time and leading up to December we will be canvassing for your ideas on the design and content of printed guides that will inform the local community and visitors on how to report hate crime in the city.
We were delighted that the Plymouth City Centre Company agreed to show Heaven is a Place film on the the big screen as part of the Plymouth Pride Festival 2014. Pride in Plymouth partnered with Plymouth University on the Heaven on Earth? project to create Heaven is a Place A port is neither land nor sea; it is a landscape suspended, janus-faced, vertiginous. Inspired by the writing of Jean Genet, this dance film explores becoming, melancholy, and the erotics of place through the human geography of ports and portals. Through the integration of a range of movement based practices, emergent professional performers and members of Plymouth’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Trans communities collaborated in the making of Heaven is a Place. Heaven is a Place by Kayla Parker Plymouth’s first proper Pride Parade passed under the Big Screen in Plymouth City Centre on Saturday 9th August with a rainbow flag
Read More...

Pride in Plymouth presented Plymouth’s first proper outdoor pride in 2012 with a music festival held in Devonport Park utilising the then new HLF funded bandstand. We returned to Devonport Park in 2013 with an even bigger event. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Devonport Park, the facilities and support on offer from the ‘Friends of the Park’ was second to none. The main downside with the park was it’s location – it was just that bit too far out to accommodate a parade a vital component of any pride celebration.
