The first trailer for The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire was just released earlier this week (Tuesday) and now a new still (above ^) of Carey as Daisy Buchanan with Leo DiCaprio as Gatsby has surfaced online via the film’s UK Facebook page.

The film also stars Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke, and Isla Fischer. The Great Gatsby opens in 3D on December 25th.

Synopsis

The Hunger Games is the first in a trilogy of books published by Scholastic that has already become a literary phenomenon with over 36.5 million copies in circulation. Jena Malone attended the premiere of History Channel's "Hatfields & McCoys" held at the Milk Studios on Monday (May 21, 2012) in Los Angeles, California.

On Memorial Day (May 28th), History channel's highly anticipated scripted mini-series HATFIELDS & MCCOYS starring Kevin Costner, Bill Paxton, Jena Malone, Tom Berenger, Powers Boothe and Mare Winningham will premiere its 3-part miniseries beginning with episode one (on the 28th at 9/8c).

Hunger TV did an article/interview, and photoshoot with Matthew Macfadyen last November (2011). I posted about the interview and video link on FB, but I don't remember posting about it here on the blog, so I thought I'd post it here today for those of you who haven't read it nor seen the video interview.

Leading the Way. Matthew Macfadyen has a knack for finding the perfect part, no matter how controversial. Matthew Macfadyen has often, and quite unwillingly, been marked out as a very British romantic hero. It’s a stereotype he’s worked hard to avoid, and one he momentarily left behind when he took on the most controversial role of his career. His portrayal of a paedophile, Charlie, in the Channel 4 drama Secret Life, saw him nominated for a Bafta in 2008. Two years later, he won the Bafta for Best Supporting Actor, for his part in Criminal Justice, before what might have been his crowning TV moment thus far, playing the mid-life Logan Mountstuart in Any Human Heart. Matthew started his career as a theatre actor, treading the boards with the company, Cheek-by-Jowl. In 2005, he was well received as Prince Hal opposite Michael Gambon’s Falstaff. Growing in talent and recognition, he worked his way through a Brontë adaptation, a Stephen Poliakoff production, and then several television dramas, before being cast as an MI5 officer in the high-profile BBC drama, Spooks. Last year he returned to the theatre, starring opposite Kim Cattrall in Noël Coward’s play, Private Lives – applying his acting impassivity to great comic effect. In 2012, he will be once again teaming up with Pride & Prejudice director, Joe Wright, in another classic love story, Anna Karenina.

The Hunger: Why the beard?

Matthew Macfadyen: I’ve got this because I’m doing Anna Karenina with Keira Knightley. It’s set in 1870s Moscow and St Petersburg, so it will probably just end up as a moustache, but we shall have to see. This is about ten weeks of concentrated growth. It helps me to get into the part. It changes the way I move my mouth; I’ve become more stiff upper-lipped.

Are you looking forward to working with Joe again?
He’s got fantastic ideas for this film – quite radical, actually – and it’s a good cast. It will be a very interesting version of Anna Karenina. It won’t be what people expect.

Anna Karenina is out in 2012.

Movie Casting News: Keira Knightley to star in John Carney's Musical 'Can A Song Save Your Life?'

Screen Daily reports that Keira Knightley is replacing Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers) to star in the female lead opposite Mark Ruffalo (The Avengers) and Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) in John Carney's musical Can a Song Save Your Life?

EXCLUSIVE: Keira Knightley has replaced Scarlett Johansson on Can A Song Save Your Life? which Exclusive Media is financing, producing and selling in Cannes.
John Carney, the filmmaker behind the hit Irish musical romance Once, will direct the story about a singer who moves to New York with her boyfriend only to be dumped by him and subsequently discovered by a producer. Hailee Steinfeld also stars. Johansson is understood to have left due to personal reasons.

A summer shoot in NYC is planned for this film, according to The Playlist.

In other KK movie casting news, she is no longer in talks to star in a new Nicholas Sparks' film adaptation of Safe Heaven.

I previously posted here recently that Keira Knightley was said to star in Nicholas Sparks film adaptation 'Safe Haven' as Twitch reports that Keira Knightley is in early talks to star in Lasse Hallström‘s adaptation of Nicholas Sparks‘ novel Safe Haven.

Apparently, Variety reported that Josh Duhamel, the Transformers star was recently in negotiations to lead the adaptation of Sparks’ Safe Haven. Duhamel would play the widowed store owner, but producers are still trying to fill the female lead role. So, KK is no longer in talks to star in this film.

DVD News: 'Wrath of the Titans' coming to DVD and Blu-ray June 26th!

Rosamund Pike's recently released film, Wrath of the Titans, which she co-starred with Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Edgar Ramirez, Toby Kebbell, and Bill Nighy is coming to DVD and Blu-ray June 26th!

The film is still currently showing in theaters (about 46 days and 6.6 weeks) and was a bit disappointing on its opening weekend as far as domestic box-office gross is concern, as it opened at $33.6 million (at #2 behind The Hunger Games), and still did not reached nor surpassed its $150 million budget, which isn't good box-office-wise, but not worse compared to Disney's John Carter. According to Box Office Mojo, as of May 14th, while it now only grossed at $82 million in domestic, it did much better overseas with $218.3 million and a current worldwide total of $300.3 million.

I saw this movie (mainly because of RP) on its opening weekend, while it was not a masterpiece, it was still pretty good. I've enjoyed watching it on iMax 3D and posted part of my review here and my full review here: Film Review: Wrath of the Titans

Synopsis

Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson star once again as gods at war in “Wrath of the Titans”, under the direction of Johnathan Liebesman.

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kaken, Perseus (Worthington) the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson) is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius.

Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. A poster release for Talulah Riley's upcoming film 'The Liability'

The movie poster for The Liability film, a new comedy thriller produced by Corona Pictures and starring Tim Roth, Jack O'Connell, Talulah Riley, and Peter Mullan has just been released via the film's Facebook page.

The poster featured Miss Riley in the middle with the tagline: "The Problem" and her character holding a gun aiming at someone. Very interesting!

Synopsis:

A veteran assassin, dreaming of retirement, is paired with an eager young driver on a mission to carry out a long-distance 'hit' job.

After crashing his gangster stepfather's prize car, Adam is forced to repay the debt by teaming up with professional hit man, Roy, to act as driver on what should be a swift and easy mission. Whilst Roy desperately wants to leave the killing game, Adam develops into an enthusiastic and aspirational hit-man.

The pair take a road trip ending deep in a forest, far away from home. Roy executes the target with ruthless efficiency only for the duo to then realize they've been caught in the act. A beautiful, mysterious young woman has witnessed the murder and professional code dictates that she must also now be dispatched.

As the two men deliberate over killing her, their witness makes her escape with an incriminating piece of evidence. Thus begins a cat and mouse chase that ultimately reveals the sinister reason for Adam's stepfather having commissioned the deadly hit and the true identity of their witness and her reasons for seeking retribution on the gangster.

In other TR movie news, her The Knot film now has a January 4th UK release date as listed on IMDB. Still no theater release date for White Frog, but hopefully, will find out soon. I'll keep you'll posted as soon as there's news about it.

Actresses Keira Knightley and Keeley Hawes (Matthew Macfadyen's wife), two of the many UNICEF UK supporters who recently visited poor countries in Africa both made a short appeal film each, which will be shown on Soccer Aid 2012 to be broadcast live later this month on ITV1 on Sunday May 27th.

Meridian - ITV News has video interviews with Lewis Hamilton, Keira Knightley and Keeley Hawes as they work for Soccer Aid 2012. They are visiting the world's poorest countries.

Rupert Friend (above photo by Islington Tribune) excels in the role: he is the innocent flower, calling Mrs Bates “Mumsie” and complimenting her on “superbly brewed” tea, but is also the serpent under’t, raising his eyebrows and shooting sly looks to the audience that make his malign intentions clear. The big draw is Rupert Friend, an actor with limited professional stage experience but plenty of film credits to his name (Pride and Prejudice, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, The Young Victoria). As Martin, the Satan of suburbia, he is impressively chilling.

Movie Casting News: Tom Hollander to co-star with Rachel McAdams in Working Title's 'About Time'

Tom Hollander has another new film, a time-travel romantic-comedy About Time from Working Title, which he will be co-starring along with Rachel McAdams (who co-starred with Kelly Reilly previously in Sherlock Holmes 1 & 2 movies) in addition to the two other films he's either finished or currently working on: Byzantium (with Gemma Arterton, Saoirse Ronan, and Johnny Lee Miller), which now in post-production and said to be released before the end of this year (or possibly early next year) and The Invisible Woman (with Ralph Fienness, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Felicity Jones), which he is currently filming. Looks like Tom will be busy with 3 new films and may not be returning to his award winning TV series REV for a third season in the UK's BBC2, according to this article: Rev writer admits show won't return this year

Rachel McAdams to Star in Working Title's 'About Time' (Exclusive)

Rachel McAdams is in negotiations to star in About Time, the latest romantic comedy from British filmmaker Richard Curtis.

Curtis, who wrote and directed Love Actually and penned Bridget Jones’s Diary, wrote the About Time script and is directing. The story is described as a fantastical feel-good movie about a man and his ability to travel back in time. He eventually meets the girl of his dreams. Domhnall Gleeson, son of actor Brendan Gleeson, will play the male lead. Bill Nighy, Tom Hollander, Margot Robbie, Lydia Wilson and Vanessa Kirby are set to co-star.

Paramount sets a November 2012 release date for 'Flight' starring Denzel Washington and Kelly Reilly

According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures has announced a U.S. theatrical release date for Flight starring Denzel Washington and Kelly Reilly and it will be on November 2nd.

Paramount Sets November 2 Release Date For ‘Flight’, Moves ‘Guilt Trip’ To Christmas
Flight, which marks Robert Zemeckis’ first live-action feature since 2000′s Cast Away, has been given a November 2, 2012 wide release date, Paramount announced today. To make room for the drama, the studio has shifted the Barbra Streisand-Seth Rogen comedy The Guilt Trip from that date to Christmas Day. Denzel Washington stars in Flight, the John Gatins-scripted story of a commercial pilot who averts a plane crash and is hailed a hero, but an investigation discovers he was flying under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Guilt Trip, formerly knows as My Mother’s Curse, now lands on a date that also houses the Weinstein Co’s Django Unchained, Warner Bros’ The Great Gatsby, and FilmDistrict’s Playing The Field.

Another Paramount Pictures big theatrical release for later this year is One Shot starring Tom Cruise and Rosamund Pike, which was recently moved up from its original release date of February 8th, 2013 and is now getting a wide release date on December 21st, 2012!

'Hotel' star Penelope Wilton resides at 'Downton Abbey'

NEW YORK – These days, meeting one of the principal players of the British TV sensation Downton Abbey almost feels like encountering one of the Beatles back in their '60s heyday. Instead of outbreaks of twisting and shouting by fans, however, the actors are more prone to be prodded for precious details of future episodes.
Alas, all are sworn to secrecy. That includes Penelope Wilton, 65, whose chic haircut and figure-flattering garb show only a slight hint of Isobel Crawley, her dowdy do-gooder on the glorified soap opera that follows the travails of an upper-crusty English family and its serving staff amid early 20th-century societal upheavals.

But Wilton's feathery vocal inflections immediately give her away as the mother of Matthew, the estate's presumptive heir. Her middle-class matron is a regular source of consternation for Maggie Smith, whose priceless putdowns as the Dowager Countess account for much of the series' popularity.

"We're so pleased we are doing well here," says Wilton. Not that she hasn't had a career full of triumphs already, from conquering Shakespeare, Shaw and Beckett onstage to memorable roles as a middle-age pinup in Calendar Girls, a zombie victim in Shaun of the Dead and a disapproving mum in Woody Allen's Match Point. But global fame is a different game altogether.

Today, she's in town to promote Friday's opening of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, a picturesque feel-good ensemble piece about seven British seniors — including seasoned stalwarts Smith (she and Wilton are quite chummy in real life), Judi Dench, Tom Wilkinson and Bill Nighy—who pull up stakes to spend their retirement years in India. In a savvy move, promos for the film were shown on PBS when Downton's second season aired earlier this year, taking advantage of Wilton and Smith's participation in both. "James Bond" actress Judi Dench spoke to Anderson about making headlines for having an eye condition known as macular degeneration, and addressed the rumor about her going blind. "Millions of people have got it… it was blown up, out of all proportion."

"It's not so good if you've got wet macular degeneration, most people have dry. Wet -- you have a series of injections in your eye, and it cleared mine, and now I've got dry, and stem cell work is being done on that. Doesn't mean that I'm going blind."

Judi said she is "certain I'm not going blind. I'm still driving my car." She added, "I go and see someone all the time, and they test it."

New 'Anna Karenina' images and teaser clips of Keira Knightley and Jude Law

A new image from the teaser clip of Keira Knightley as the title character, Anna Karenina is attached in the UK's Movie Preview Guide's promo trailer of 2012 UK movies, which included a couple teaser clips from Joe Wright's upcoming film Anna Karenina (starring Pride & Prejudice stars Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen). Her co-star Jude Law as Karenin (Anna's husband) was featured as well. [Thanks to Kathy via Twitter for the video and gif links]

Just discovered this new vlog (video blog) series on YouTube titled The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (which just started earlier this month, April 9th). At first, I thought this looks like another typical YouTube video parodies about P&P (and other Austen related viral videos on YouTube such as Jane Austen’s Fight Club), but being a P&P fan and all, I watched it anyway, as the idea of seeing one of my favorite fictional literature characters Elizabeth Bennet in a video diary (would love to see Mr. Darcy Video Diary...now that and with Mr. Darcy would make me an instant avid watcher, lol) like this Lizzie Bennet Diaries is a great idea. It got me curious and piqued my interest. I was pleasantly surprised that it was really well-done. I thought it was an interesting and brilliant idea to start a modern version of Pride and Prejudice, vlog/YouTube style...and it's something quite different, fresh, entertaining, and very funny. With episodes uploaded on Mondays and Thursdays, it's becoming popular (in such a short time too) with lots of fans and subscribers (over 37k and counting) and over 128k views (and that was just the first episode) on its YouTube channel.

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (a professionally made scripted web series) starring newcomer Ashley Clements (as Lizzie Bennet) is a modernized YouTube adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel, Pride and Prejudice. The story is told primarily through Lizzie Bennet's Video Diaries, while being supported by her and other characters social media streams.

The series was created by Hank Green and Bernie Su.

Here are my thoughts on the 6 episodes (they're short episodes about 3 minutes long each) that I've seen (thus far)...

My Name is Lizzie Bennet - Ep:1

In the first episode, Lizzie Bennet (Ashley Clements) introduced herself ("a 24 year-old grad student with a mountain of student loans" studying Mass Communications) in her first video diary entry (which her BFF Charlotte does the video editing thing) with a nice intro music and graphics and a cool t-shirt (interestingly, given to her by her mother, lol) and a reference to the famous opening line from the Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice novel: "It is a truth universally acknowledge that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife." Introducing herself, her traditional mother (Mrs. Bennet) and impersonating her mother as well, her father (Mr. Bennet), her best friend Charlotte Lu (short for Lucas...I guess she was supposed to be an Asian girl here, so the "Lu" last name made sense, lol), and her ‘energetic’ and oddly 'double jointed' ("whaaaat?" LOL!) sister Lydia Bennet (played by Mary Kate Wiles). I thought the first episode was brilliant, clever, and hilarious. Lizzie and Charlotte's impersonations of Lizzie's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Bennet was pretty funny. But the one that made me laugh the most was Lydia's "accidental" appearance, hahaha! She mention a "Bing Lee" (at first I was like, who's Bing Lee? did she mean Bingley? The caption seemed to have misspelled it or it was probably intended that way to be funny, lol.) and when Lizzie tried to guess if he's single (after she said that he was "rich, hot, and..."), Lydia was like "Jackpot! Right?!? Whaaaat!" and Lizzie was like, "No." LOL! Then, she started to high-five (surprising the viewers, myself included, with her 'double jointed' elbow and her memorable one-liner: "Whaaaat!" ahaha!) Lizzie, but when she shook her head, she looked like she was about to high-five the screen...but it was Charlotte (who fortunately, high-fived her back, lol). Great and hilarious first episode! Ashley Clements did a great job as Lizzie Bennet. It got me interested in watching the next episode and more!

My Sisters: Problematic to Practically Perfect - Ep: 2

In the second episode, Lizzie introduced her eldest sister Jane Bennet (another red-headed....the Bennet sisters in this version, interestingly...all have red hair color and they all look-alike...very cool). Oh, and there's only three sisters (poor Mary and Kitty were excluded... to quote Lydia, "whaaaaaat?" LOL! I'm reading lots of "Where are Mary and Kitty?" questions in the video comments...one of them said, "you killed Mary?" haha!). I guess it made sense that there were only 3 sisters since this was set in a modern times (in America too) and there aren't many kids nowadays with 5 kids (but in my family, I have 4 siblings, with myself included, that makes us 5, but with 3 girls and 2 boys...and we're living in the in America in a modern world too, lol. Still, I missed Kitty & Mary...poor Mary, she's always ignored and forgotten, lol). Reminds me of the 4 Bakshi sisters in Bride & Prejudice (the Bollywood version of P&P), but at least on that one Mary (Maya)'s included and the hilarious one in the movie especially with her hilarious "snake dance" scene, while Kitty was omitted with Lakhi (who wears a"Lucky" t-shirt, lol) as a combination of both (as they're practically twins anyway even though Kitty was 2 years older than Lydia...). The audio on Jane in this episode was not very good (like she was whispering or mumbling something, lol) and I could hardly hear nor understand what she was saying even with turning the volume up. The actress who played Jane (Laura Spencer) looks like the younger version of Glee actress Jamayma Mays. Nice reference and mention of Colin Firth and Sense Sensibility! Though, it would've been nice if Matthew Macfadyen (my favorite Mr. Darcy) is mentioned too on this one (this series would definitely gained more avid viewers and at the same time make both the '95 and '05 P&P fandoms happy, don't you agree? lol...Nice to see Charlotte in the flesh with Lizzie in this episode.

My Parents: Opposingly Supportive - EP: 3

In the third episode, Lizzie (is starting to sound a bit annoying here) was describing her relationship with her parents with the assistance of Charlotte Lu (played by Julia Cho) and the often interference of her younger sister Lydia was funny, lol...Can't believe Charlotte called Lydia "slut" (lol)...and Lydia heard that and she turned her back (after appearing with Lizzie) from the camera leaving Lizzie's room, haha!

Bing Lee and his 500 Teenage Prostitutes - EP: 4

In this episode, Lizzie (is becoming more and more annoying with the way she talks...every episode now...not that I didn't like the actress playing her, she's very good and funny, but at the same time she's starting to get on my nerves, lol...) talks about how Mrs. Bennet is freaking out about Bing Lee and her going as far as sending Lydia to find out more info on him. LOL at Lydia calling Bing Lee, "Bings," haha. The "Bing" part (in Bing Lee's name) reminded me of Chandler Bing of NBC's popular Friends series.

After the Wedding: The Real Bing Lee - EP: 5

In the 5th episode, the eldest Bennet sisters, Lizzie and Jane discussed their encounter with the mysterious Bing Lee and Charlotte got creative with the editing. Nice to see Jane in this episode, but there's still a problem with the audio and her "whisper" talk. I get that Jane is shy and modest, but we need to hear her too, you know. LOL, I love Charlotte's editing, voice-over, and evil-drawing on Lizzie's face in this episode, hahaha... Jane and Lizzie's making fun of each other was funny in this episode. The episode's too short though and poor Jane, she gets mocked more by Lizzie. Lizzie would never do that (at least not in Austen's book and other P&P adaptations) and embarrassed her big sister like that in public especially in a vlog...Other than that, very good episode!

Snobby Mr. Douchey Part 1

In this episode, Lizzie (who looked like singer Kelly Clarkson with a hat, lol) elaborates on her encounter with William Darcy (and her first impression or rather her dislike of his character, but probably not on his looks, since she didn't mention it, lol) with the help of Lydia portraying Bing Lee. LOL, "The Lee-dee-yeahh!" Lizzie's crazy younger sister was hilarious, once again, in this episode.

Ok, now, I can't wait to see part two of poor Mr. Douchey (LOL!)...would be nice if William Darcy and Bing Lee would appear in Lizzie's vlog....would they? I hope so. I'm curious of what they look like. If not, that wouldn't be cool... perhaps someone should make a "William Darcy Diary"viral vlog of his own. I'd be the first to promote it heavily here, hahaha...

Overall, this series is great and I'm looking forward to seeing more episodes and to see how they progressed.
