In this semester we started to learn about UML. I already know a little, but to say that I'm not learning new stuff, would be a lie. So now, we basically need to draw up all sorts of diagrams to track the process of software development and our teacher told us that Visual Paradigm is a good tool for the job. Well, I happened to be a guy who hates trail periods and stuff like that so I bought myself the UML-modeler version of this tool. Now I'm kinda forced into using this tool sooner or later, because I paid good money for it. And I see this as a good thing... to learn a tool that is well know in the branch is always a good thing! But continuing learning UML and the process of software development, I realized that it's better to first try things by hand before you could really value a tool like Visual Paradigm. I already see its potential, but it feels a tool too complex for my level of experience.

Lucky I found that this is not the case. And wanting not to many similar IDE's on laptop I decided to say Eclipse goodby for now. Got information on Android in Netbeans here: IntroAndroidDevNetBeans.Unfortunately I didn't find the time to create a little more serious test application. This is a really nice Android phone. But cunning as I am, the next day, I re-installed Eclipse and plugged the Android Developers Toolkit (ADT). Why 're-installed' you might ask... Well in school we are going to use Netbeans, so I figured one Java IDE would be sufficient. And that while I have a reasonable amount of experience with Eclipse... how 'silly' can one person act ?!
It will be my personal Java project for this year, like I learned quite a lot of Qt for my last years' C++ course. Still working on that project, but for Java I need another to keep me on my toes. It would be nice If I will find the time to use this blog to log my progress in trying to make an Android App for students to view their grades on a PeopleSoft system.
