pimp eats- More Than Toilet

There is a cute little area in Shanghai called Tianzifang; hidden in the back alleys of old 2 story homes. Tianzifang is a popular tourist attraction filled with cute shops and restaurants. In there is a popular restaurant called More Than Toilet. Yes you guessed it the theme is toilets! You sit on a toilet and eat on a table that resembles a toilet bowl with fake crap in it. How appetizing!?!?!?
The food is fun and nothing special; the menu is filled with pizzas, pastas, and waffles. The drink menu is extensive; all of the hot drinks are served in a toilet bowl and the cold ones are served out of a urinal. The food maybe nothing to rave about but it is the experience that is a must.
Finally got back into Toronto on Monday, but will be off next week again. Will keep you guys posted on the next adventure!

Garden Party

Shanghai is such a crowded city and most days I get anxiety from crossing the street with the millions of people and cars. However I recently discovered a little getaway from our home that has become my secret hideout. The location of this secret garden is ironically situated in the middle of an eight lane street.

Shanghai Fashion Week F/W13

My first time at Shanghai Fashion Week was a blast, from the time I landed in Shanghai to April 16th the shows were unstoppable. I was introduced to some great Chinese designers and a whole new side of fashion inspired by the Eastern hemisphere. At the end of the day it wasn't that different from any other fashion weeks; where the popular trendsetters came out and sat front row to support and watch the hard work. Probably the only trend that you would only see at Shanghai fashion week was people wearing face-masks protecting them from the bird flu...lol.
Been here almost for three weeks now and starting to get a little home sick. Sad to leave next week but also excited to go home. See you soon Toronto; with love from Shanghai.

With its soft launch last September, and most recently the official launch this April, it has been a great ride and I look forward to a wonderful future. The JOLIE team came together and put on an amazing party, where the press and all of our family and friends came out to celebrate. It was such a great feeling and a proud moment to have everyone swoon over the collection.

waiting for you...in Shanghai

Shanghai has been so warm, making it feel like the perfect Spring. Its always a crazy time without a moment to spare when I'm in Shanghai. Between visiting family and friends, working with the manufactures (for JOLIE) and this time (for the first time) Shanghai Fashion Week; being able to squeeze in my double espresso is a dream. This look is no different from the representation of the hectic time I have been experiencing. Its an easy look that takes me from a lunch meeting right to Xintiandi for fashion week shows.
On a side note, for everyone who thought it was crazy of me for coming to Shanghai because of the bird flu, you can tell that it has been all blown out of proportion. Actually here no one really cares about it or even thinks of it as an epidemic. People here wear face masks on the regular. With all of the pollution in the air face masks comes in so many different colors and patterns that it has been come a fashion accessory.

leaving on a jet plane

These pictures were taken this past Thursday at Pearson Airport; as I got on to my flight to Shanghai. I wanted to look chic for the 14 hour plane ride but I quickly realized that the outfit I choose was not the smartest. Wearing a full bodysuit was not the way to go. Having to strip down and get half naked to use the tiny airport washroom was not easy (especially when there was turbulence). I should have learned my lesson from the last time I wore the same bodysuit. What happened? Well the story goes like this...I was using a co-ed washroom at one of my favorite brunch spots in Toronto. When I went into the stall not knowing I forgot to lock the door it happened that a few minutes later a male walked in and saw me pretty much naked. I was horrified and embarrassed!!! Even though I did not have anyone walk-in on me on the plane, every time I used the washroom I felt totally uncomfortable and worried about it happening again! lol!

pimp eats- Aft Kitchen & Bar

Before I left Toronto to travel to Shanghai; the boy and I decided to venture to support one of our new local restaurants, Aft Kitchen & Bar. Aft may seem like a typical southern BBQ house, but once you taste the food you know that the food is just a little bit more interesting and a little bit less classic.

We started off our meal with the portobello mushroom fries; forgetting that the boy hates mushrooms I had the pleasure of eating the whole portion by myself, and after tasting the first one I was not complaining. For our mains The boy had a steak sandwich which he described it being cooked just the way he likes it. The steak was a grade A cut and cooked perfectly medium raw served with a fresh foccacia perfectly soft to accompany the juicy steak. I on the other hand went for something a little different; I got the pork-loin chop. The pork was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, I don't know what they did to it but it was very delicious.

We happened to go on a Wednesday night and their special that day was the fried chicken; I never thought about ordering it (because of my fat complex). However after seeing the table beside us served to them I had huge food envy. Can't wait to go back to Toronto for that fried chicken!

P&P Gets Married- Location Scouting Part 2

So I took a long break since my first location search for the wedding with the boy. This time I checked out the Fermenting Cellar in the Distillery District. I have been in the space for many parties for fashion week and TIFF but never a wedding. It's a very different space compared to the last location that I checked out, but a very cool and roomie space with working class charm. The inside is filled with concrete floors, brick walls and big old steel beams. So is this the place? Well you will just have to stay tuned!

Backstage with Redken and Maybelline at WMCFW

Redken and Maybelline invited us backstage before the shows at the tents during WMCFW. We meet the fabolous Jorge Joao (head stylist at Redken) and Grace Lee (Maybelline's lead makeup artist) creating the looks for all of the shows. WMCFW Day 3

A fashionista has to always be stylish on the whim, and as a true fashionista this outfit is the result of that. So after this unexpected weather we have been having, I've had to rethink all of my Spring inspired looks into something that kept me warm instead. But by day 3 it got even harder. As I put on my thinking cap (i.e. ripping through my closet like a crazy woman) I saw from the corner of my eye this River Island dress that was tucked neatly in the back of my closet. Once I got the statement piece putting the rest wasn't hard at all.

Day 3 of our experiences at Toronto fashion week was probably the most crazy of them all. We started our day early spending time backstage with Redken Canada and Maybelline Canada as they were getting ready for the shows (I will be doing an entire post on this...so look out for it). Right after we ran to our seats for one show after another from Matis by Lucian Matis to Mackage and finishing off with Joe Fresh (which was amazing and I loved his French inspired designs for the Fall collection). Than ended our night off at Storys for the Joe Fresh after party where we danced the night away.

Unfortunately the boy got some bad news and because of a family emergency I couldn't make it to day 4 of WMCFW. But I will make it back to finish off fashion week with everyone on Friday, for day 5. So Stay tuned for a little more!

WMCFW Day 2

So the weather didn't get better it actually got worse but we braved the snow, sleet and ice and trekked off to day two of Toronto fashion week. For me the two stand out shows of the day were Duy and Line Knitwear. Duy did not lack the high-end ready to wear tailoring he is known for. For this collection he showed some great baseball jackets, chunky knit scarf and flowing maxi dress. And Line Knitwear did not disappoint either with their luxurious sweaters with great pops of color.

WMCFW Day 1

Due to a huge surprise snowstorm right in the mist of day one of Toronto Fashion Week, I got discouraged to take shoots of my outfit (so sorry for the lack of shoots). However inside the tent there was lots of magic happening. We arrived just in time for Chloe Comme Parris and I have to say the show was all about going back in time to the 90's of smelling like teen spirit. Than Pink Tartan took it further back in time, into the 60's with some luxurious fur pieces. Day one was amazing, now lets just hope the weather gets better!

This look was created from the inspiration of Balenciaga's Spring 2013 runway show. I surprisingly found this amazing skirt in my mother's closet which showed off the ruffle trend that I wanted to mimic. Fashion is always about recycling! This skirt has been apart of my mother's closet for around 15 years. Thanks mom for being such a fashionista.

Nella Bella Fall 2013 Preview

Last Thursday after the Topshop event we went to check out Nella Bella's Fall preview. Nella Bella is a Canadian handbag line that's always been a forefront for design with an affordable price tag for a handbag. All of the bags are made of vegan leather with simple subdued hardware. Rev and I gravitated to the same handbag as our showstopper from the collection, which is the London NU in red. Also for this Fall season, addition to the Nella Bella handbag collection they introduced a knit line of one scarf. I am hoping to see more colors when the scarfs come out in Fall, because otherwise I don't get why there is only one scarf.

J.W. Anderson x Topshop Preview

Truc Nguyen Fashion Editor of FLARE Magazine hosted an intimate event at the Queen Street Topshop last Thursday, to introduce the second collection collaboration with J.W. Anderson. The collection was a combination of British prep school with a dash of androgynous personality. I got the chance to try on all of the pieces at Topshop's personal shopping area, where I got the special treatment and the luxury to a huge change room to review my favorite pieces from the collection. However one disappointing thing was that for this preview event Topshop did not have all of the pieces from the collection, which meant that the lavender baseball jacket that I wanted so badly wasn't there. Over all the collection was a bit simple for me but great pieces that can be mixed with any wardrobe. See the rest of the collection here.
