I have always been curious to seeing Corregidor to the point that it has reached my 30 before 30 list. :P

It was probably caused by a change of plan of our junior high field trip which was supposedly a trip to the island. As a child, my mom would tell me that my maternal granddad fought against the Japanese and Corregidor was one of the places where they was sent for battle. Hence, my curiosity of this island.

Finally, I did not have to wait for my 29^th year to go to this island :P I chanced upon a Deal Grocer voucher for a Sun Cruises tour for only around 1500php. I bought two tickets for me and Jz as a post Valentine date <3 In return, he treated me for an overnight stay in Midas Hotel in time for our trip so that we would not have to wake up THAT early for the trip :D

We wanted to spend a meaningful Holy Week Trip with Dad and the boyfie. As early as January, I have scouted for our possible accommodation in the City of Pines. We always go to Baguio eversince I was a kid. But, this is the first time we chose to spend Holy Week in the city.

I chanced upon Ridgewood Residence in the internet. I always hear of the name and see it in advertisements but have not gotten the chance to stay there. I excitedly booked the hotel since the reviews in Tripadvisor is good and the location is far from Session Rd, which is what we exactly wanted.

We wanted a more serene place to stay this time since our purpose is to have a meaningful stay and to have VisitaIglesia as well which our family still practice.

I can say that we are all more than satisfied with the place. Our favorite is their cozy lobby and restaurant with the ambience of a log cabin as expected for the type of weather that the city has.

More than that, it was the excellent customer service given by the hotel staff – from the way they handle the booking and booking adjustments, the way that the food servers in the restaurant attend to our requests, and the front desk who attended to our additional queries.

As for our trip, we also opted to take advantage of the fresh produce offered by the city. We did a side trip to La Trinidad to buy some organic veggies and of course strawberries which my men enjoyed JIn time for Easter, we are trying to change our lifestyle a bit by “baby steps” of choosing fresh and organic produce than artificial and unnatural goods more often.

Due to heavy traffic, we had the chance to visit only Pink Sisters and Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto (in which my second name was derived as my parents prayed for me here J). But it was worth it as we had a solemn Way of the Cross.

We also dropped by Good Shepherd and queued for an hour! It was worth it knowing that for sure a percentage of the products we buy go to a fund for students being sent to school by the convent.

Since I am back to being a Makati girl [from my corporate person perspective :p], I am more curious to explore and re-visit old and new interesting restaurants around Makati. Good thing, I have decided to purchase vouchers to try the food that one of Makati restaurants can offer. I am talking about Relish at Ponte.

..And I did not regret it! Aside from the nice interiors and friendly staff, the dishes we tried was goooooood! It is priced at Php 495

I just knew it - Just from the menu, I knew that their Baked Salmon is deliciously being created in the kitchen! Haha. I got what I imagined from the menu and more! How it was cooked was just right and the cheese flavor [with some herbs I think] is just lovely for my taste buds. It comes along with an originally created tartar dip too :D

Jz tried their Relish Bistro Steak with Herbed Rice priced at Php 595. The taste is at par to the higher-priced steaks we have tried.

For dessert, we tried their Chocolate Cheesecake with Cookie Dough. It is a frozen dessert but as soon as you are halfway to finishing the treat, it tastes better and better! It is priced at Php 180

- I was hoping to taste the Baked Salmon with their Garlic Mashed Potato but it was not available. You can order some of the house specials along with a free siding options : the mashed potato, side salad, and herbed rice as choices.
- Relish at Ponte, as the name suggests, is located at Ponte Salcedo Bldg, Valero St., Makati City [beside Shakeys Valero and Seattle's Best. From McDonald's Valero and RCBC it is at your left]

Dazzling Davao

It is my first time to go to Mindanao and we chose to go to one of the Most Progressive cities in the Philippines - Davao City! The Waterfront Insular Hotel became our home for the weekend.

We immediately noticed the clean streets even the clean markets around the city. And when we say progressive, Davao really is! Aside from having an Ayala Mall - Abreeza and a huge SM Mall - SM Lanang which has an IMAX and is said to be the second largest SM mall next to Mall of Asia, there are a lot of establishments and hang-out places around the city.

Since we just wanted a quick chill getaway, we only opted for a city tour. As first stop, we went to Eden Park where we strolled around the hectares of nature lover's haven. We also visited their fishing village and got the chance to tick off our 2012 list of catching a fish and have it cooked.

We also had lunch at Jack's Ridge which offers a breathtaking view of Davao City. Food is a bit pricey considering it is already a must for any tourist to drop by the place. But, the food we tried is delicious and worth the price.

We had the chance to visit the Japanese tunnel which is very significant for Jz because it was in Davao where his grandfather was harmed by the Japanese during the Japanese war. Entering the tunnel gives you that goosebump-y feeling but knowing the stories while seeing the preserved part of the tunnel is a cool experience. The tunnel was unexpectedly discovered during the1960s when the National Highway of Davao was being built.

Travel Thoughts:

- The city governance is strict on implementation. Thus, you will inevitably notice the high police visibility in the area. As a tourist, one must be aware that "No Smoking" zones in public places/jeepneys are strictly implemented. There are only designated smoking areas.

- Another tourist must-know: Alcoholic beverages are only served until 1am and bars/clubs operate only until 2am. This is strictly implemented as well.

- Interesting Trivia: Mt Apo is very visible in the city especially if one is headed to Eden Park. However, the highest peak in the country is not really located in Davao exactly but in Cotabato. Most climbers are from Davao though. And the most scenic view is seen in Davao. Our tourist guide also shared that most mountaineers flock Mt Apo during Holy Week.

- If you happen to stay in Waterfront Hotel, their Caesar Salad is the bomb! You can order for additional or less parmesan and other toppings when you order and their veggies are soo crunchy.

- The best Durians are the ones being sold accros Chinatown entrance. Another interesting fact is that the Chinatown in Davao is one of the largest in a foreign Asian country.

And my best friend was right.. Omakase will be favorite! Yeah, I know it already existed for quite some time now - it was even one of the caterers in one of the weddings we attended this year. But, can I just repeat [it again, one more time - haha ok ok redundant :P] that Omakase is our official favorite food trippin' place! Ever since they moved their Alabang branch to Molito, the ambience is better and we feel we had better access to this Japanese place.

What is my personal favorite? Ofcourse the Seafood Crepe! I just fell in love :P I remember ordering my good old favorite Kani Salad. But, they do not have them in the menu. I just can take the lady server a thousand times for recommending this food love to me :D

I wanted to blog about the food trip and treats I had for my birthday so here it is..:)

* I had my birthday salubong treat from Jz at Lorenzo's,BGC way since we have been craving for Fil-Spanish dishes days before. I chose the delsih Coco Loco Prawns!

Every Friday night, our Fridate is somewhere unplanned except for those days that we are craving for something in particular. The Friday when we chose to dine at Murray and D'vine was a random one.We wanted to try a resto/bar which is not part of our favorite list.

I ordered Meatball Spaghetti and Jz ordered Beef n' Bacon burger. We also added some Nachos with Cheese and Beef.

- Nachos with Cheese n' Beef was full of flavor. Not the best nachos for me though, but it was good.
- Meatball Spaghetti seemed Sauce with pasta for me.. The sauce was too thick for my tastebuds and there's too little serving of the noodles compared to the sauce :P
- I got to taste the Beef n' bacon and it was delish. Not a healthy option though hehe!
- Crowd was made up of expatriates and yuppies
- Was fascinated by their cute mustard and catsup bottle haha!

Pre-Father's Day Celebration : Pacquiao Tix!

As I "arrange" arrange my photos for the "happenings" of June, I came across few photos we had during the Pacquiao-Bradley fight which was Jz and I's Pre Fathers Day treat for dad. As usual, we watched another Pacquiao fight at the Vue Bar of Bellevue Hotel. This is one "happening" we will miss should the People's champ decide to retire.. I guess all other Pinoys have their own "usual" way of celebrating each fight of Pacman...And our way is at the Vue Bar. We fell in love with the ambiance, the buffet with our favorite pudding and crispy chicken (brunch buffet at 990 php only!), and the cheering Pinoys who are also used to watch the fight in the same way as ours (priceless!:P) :)

Buffet South of Manila : Acacia Hotel

One random weekend, I decided to treat two men in my life for a lunch buffet. Instead of going somewhere north of Manila, we chose to have it nearby - in Alabang :) Acacia Hotel came to mind since I have heard of friends satisfied after trying it and I was always curious of what it has to offer every time pass by the hotel while driving along Commerce Avenue.

Healthy Options

The buffet is at around 1100php per plate and it comes with either Pandan Juice or Iced Tea.
There is a salad bar which became my favorite part of the buffet table. There were different viands such as fish fillet, roast chicken, beef stew, pork 'kawali', and (Jz's fave) salmon with cream sauce - all come with unique flavor. Different kinds of pastas were also offered. My Dad's favorite part were the Pinoy desserts.

- I love the fact that they offer healthier options as compared to other buffets

We have been craving to try the famous buffet at Bag of Beans . Then, last Sunday we had to buy some organic stuff from Ilog Maria which gave us a chance to have our lunch in one of our most favorite restaurants/food establishments in Tagaytay.

What's good about the buffet is that it has variety of choices - even for healthy eaters. Since its lent, I do not eat pork and beef for this year's season so I was glad that I still enjoyed their veggie spring rolls dipped in vinegar, fish tempura, and Filipino-style Fried Chicken. My two dates - Jz and Dad , enjoyed their choices too. They have different kinds of pasta, salads, and soup. And of course we we enjoyed the pastries and desserts!

My favorite Japanese restaurant in Greenbelt already has its branch at Bonifacio High Street. This is a 'yehey' moment for me and Jz since we were craving for some Jap foodie last Friday.The interiors of a store give a lighter vibe, possibly because of its lighter color theme, than their flagship store in Makati.

For our fri-date, we decided to order Ebi Tempura (arounf 350php/7pcs) , Yaki Udon, California Maki (both 200 to 400 php price range)

Aside from the delicious fodd, we also got excellent customer service and took advantage of the fast wifi service.

Food Thoughts:

- Their fruit shakes are also perfect to beat the summer heat.

- If there is a bigger space in your tummy, try the seafood or barbecue platter

I once again convinced Jz to go to Nuvali as I wanted to spend one Saturday afternoon in a less cosmopolitan place yet not so far from Manila.

When we arrived, we decided to have our late lunch at Uncle Cheffy since I have not tried one of their branches in Manila. Besides, we parked in Solenad 1 so we just chose a resto in the same area before checking the newly opened stores in Solenad 2.

Ofcourse we first ordered their famous panizzas! We chose a combination of the Seafood Panizza which looks like a potential fave and Jz ordered the best seller East Meets West Panizza. We also tried their oriental pasta -Tuey pasta, which is the only oriental pasta in the menu. For additional munchm we also ordered the appetizer - Crunchy Calamares.

Food for Thought:

Crunchy Calamares: Comes in Medium and Family Serving Types

- East Meets West gives that oriental flave with the ripe mango chunks and kesong puti added to that Westen cheese and parham toppings. Although it is not my fave, Jz was gastronimically happy!
- some panizzas we would like to try in our next visit are the All Meat (maybe after Lent) and Vegetarian. I love the fact that I could eat the pizzas by squeezing some veggie toppings in the 'pizza' and rolling it to be eaten like the normal panini - which makes it more flavorful
- The Crunchy Calamares would be a normal appetizer for some but their version was yummy and the sauce made it even more delish
- I am not a fan of Oriental pasta but their Tuey Pasta made me eat half of the 'for sharing' order :)
- Good customer service is present among the staff. I was even given the company discount I thought is not valid since it is already a Laguna store.
- There are other partner companies, so young professionals could check their "Partner" board - who knows company discounts may be available for you too! :P

I am not the adventurous type..comparing myself to my more audacious friends. But, I have always wanted to go to Sagada which is known for more daring activities like trekking, hiking, and spelunking. Knowing that my parents already went there and my dad just loved the experience, I was all the more curious of what is behind that 'long drive form Manila' and the place behind the mountains and valleys.

We kicked off summer 2012 with the planned trip to Mountain Province. Armed with reminders such as Sagadanians are conservative and weather is cold but Mr. Sun is always present., we packed our bags together with our a bit of conventional but comfy clothes, sunblock, trekking footwear etc.

We took the Omahayami bus to Banawe which is full of foreigners - Koreans, Americans, Europeans. It took us 9 hours to get to the Rice Terraces town of Ifugao. It was my first time. The group had breakfast at Las Vegas Restaurant, which I think is popular hearing it from the foreign guests. We got introduced to our guide slash driver who will accompany us to our 3 hour drive to Sagada.

Along the way, we were able to pass by the famous Banawe Rice Terraces. I was just amazed seeing it upclose.The people of Ifugao are very friendly which is very evident among the elders who welcomed us in the Terraces viewpoint, who also cheerfully posed with us for a photo op.

Upon, reaching Mt. Province, there are more rice terraces shown to us who are also lovely. One is the Bay-ay Rice Terraces.

After the three hour zigzag and thrilling ride (due to narrow roads), we finally reached the town of Sagada. We checked in at George Guest House and registered first at the municipal hall. We decided to proceed with the activity of the day : trek to Bomod-ok falls.

The trek was a challenge for a sleepless person like me during that time. But I can say, it is one fulfilling experience even if it is something that I do not usually do. Getting to know the way of life of the people in Brgy. Banga-an, where the trek route is, is just worth it. The breathtaking view of mountains and fields also became my source of energy to finish a total of 3 hours of trekking route (going to and from the falls). Thanks to our guide Ate Gloria (fondly called as Ate GMA haha), a membet of NORSIGA, for being patient in guiding us and in explaining their culture for us to appreciate.

The following day was spent on going to Echo Valley and Hanging Coffins.

My friends also enjoyed their spelunking activity, which I did not join :P But was able to capture some of their moments in the cave.

How can I forget the food trip?

Living may be simple in Sagada, but one will not forget the abundance of food. :) I loved our break fast at Salt and Pepper and my fresh yogurt at Yoghurt House.

Travel Thoughts:

- Ohayami Bus fare 450 php (one way)

- From Sagada, we took the Sagada-Baguio-Manila route. Be prepared of the 6 hour Sagada-Baguio route as it is about the countless zigzag roads and a 'fresh air' bus. But, the view and the experience are the things that will make it memorable. I am sure the foreign tourists would agree too :)

- Orange is a famous product of Sagada: most pastries for pasalubong have its orange flave.

- George guest house is already one of the most modern and cozy place to stay in Sagada. Note that unlike Banawem most accommodations are in forms of guest houses or inns only. George Guest House has that colorful exterior and interior designs which has wi-fi as additional service.

We paid roughly 1k per room a night.

Why I Looovved My Love Week..:)

Yes it was My Love Week - celebrated Valentines and Anniv :) HodgePodge reasons why I lovett :D

1. Mamma Mia - finally, my fave musical is in Manila! Extended up to Feb 19. But, tickets were sold out faasssst! Watched it with Jz and Dad and we all loved it :)

2. Patchi! Received Patchi's milk and dark chocs post valentines - wrapped in a sophisticated package..literally and figuratively sweet! The imported chocolate brand flagship store is located in Bonifacio High Street

3. Tarts Cravings.. My Fave Buko Tart in Tagaytay by Loumars is the best! :) It is located in Villa Pura and another branch along Sta Rosa - Tagaytay Road. 160 php per box ( 9 pieces of buko tarts ). My other favorite flavor is their Blueberry Tart.

4. Chocolate Flourless Cake and ofcourse the ambience in Antonio's Tagaytay. Enough said.

5. Lee Boutique overnight accommodation. Why? Simple, Quaint, and Spacious rooms. Also because of the cold and windy weather, I also liked hanging out in their roof deck to simply enjoy Taal and the lake. :)
