Another Hybrid car from Toyota in Japan: Vellfire van

I don't know if anybody was aware of this, but there is a van I found out today "by mistake" on the Japanese Toyota website, with HSD 4WD (!!) drivetrain, called Vallfire.

For what I can understand the specs of the HSD are (same as the Camry Hybrid?):
2AZ-FXE 2.4L engine
190HP hybrid system
150HP/190Nm ICE
143HP/270Nm forward electric motor
68HP/130Nm rear electric motor
Fuel consumption is JC08 cycle 17km/L, 10/15 cycle 19km/L

From the shape of it, it looks the battery is Li-Ion as on the Alpha/+/v.
Actually I found out the entire line up of "eco cars" here: Toyota Eco Cars

We are downsizing considerably from a 1994 Land Cruiser. We don't need 4wd here in Seattle and we do have a 2007 FJ Cruiser if needed.

What are the pros/cons for a family of 4 with two year old twins?

Fuel economy is also improved. The 4-cylinder engine is now rated at 8.2L/100km in the city and 5.6L/100km on the highway, while the V6 figures are 9.7 and 6.4 city/highway; those are class-leading numbers and we're not talking about the Hybrid (which we'll be covering in a separate article) that boasts fuel consumption ratings as low as 4.5/4.9 L/100km city/highway.

http://www.auto123.com/en/toyota/cam...2&artid=136411

For comparison, the 1st Gen Prius got 4.5/4.6 and a HCH-I got 4.9/4.6. The Insight-II gets 4.8/4.5 on the LX and 5.0/4.6 for the EX. The CR-Z is rated at 5.6/5.0 with the CVT and 6.5/5.3 with 6MT.

Seeing how I was fairly close with the 2010's Prius pricing, I'll take a stab at the 2012 Camry.

The base 2012 LE comes in at $23,700 (2011: $25,310) and the XLE V6 at $33,700 (2011: $36,410 w/o nav. $38,340 w/ nav)and the current 2011 Camry Hybrid starts at $31,310.

So I'll guess that the Camry Hybrid LE will start at $28,200 and the Camry Hybrid XLE at $29,990. :D. Let's see if I can work my magic again.

What's the main difference between those two system? I heard that Camry has a true neutral gear, but Prius does not.

If I get 50 mpg on Prius, how much I can get on Camry? Is the hybrid battery same reliable as Prius'?

Looks to me, used Camry price is very close to none hybrid version now, maybe only $1000 difference. Used Prius still carries a high premium.

I have been saying negative things about the 2012 Camry restyling job here, mostly that it looks like a Corolla. I saw two on a car carrier on route 95 in MD south of Baltimore, and I have to say, the styling is quite nice. Much cleaner and more modern than I thought. So it is back in the running (looking for a 2012 Prius v, Camry Hybrid, or Prius with Plus, but comfort is the highest priority.)

So now I will just bad-mouth Toyota's marketing division for not knowing how to photograph one of their own cars... :D
