If Jay Cutler doesn’t raise red flags, Bears fans, you are colorblind. From all appearances and indications, he has the maturity level of larva.

Two weeks ago, he demanded the Broncos trade him. On Wednesday, he said he had wanted to stay with the Broncos all along.

On Friday, I’m guessing he will say he’s ecstatic about the Bears and deep-dish pizza.

This is exactly the kind of steely resolve you want in your huddle, isn’t it?

Let’s try to recall the chain of events. Cutler was severely miffed when the Broncos’ new coach included him in a proposed deal that would have brought then-New England quarterback Matt Cassel to Denver. Cutler pouted that the Broncos said bad things about him. Cutler insisted that he be traded.

More recently, he expressed surprise at the turn of events that put him on the trading block. He also said Denver never tried calling him over a 10-day span ending Tuesday, to which Broncos owner Pat Bowlen reportedly said: Would you care to see the telephone records?

I think Cutler is going to look back on this with regret. You are never as loved in your second city as you are in the fist.

Cutler, with a reliance on arm strength that borders on narcissism, a tendency to pout in defeat and a track record that proves what he has done in college and the NFL is post gaudy statistics for bad teams, has a long way to go before he is a franchise quarterback.

Cutler does possess the talent to be one of the five best quarterbacks in the league.

Cutler, however, also has a large ego an agent could lead around the NFL, forever in search of greener pastures and paychecks, at the expense of success defined by the scoreboard. (Source)

Bus Cook, Cutler’s agent, said on Wednesday morning: “Jay was disappointed in the firing of Mike Shanahan and met with the owner. The owner assured him everything would be fine. The owner said he had the second-best offense in football and would leave the offensive staff intact. Jay was good with that. Then he hires an offensive coach who gets rid of the staff.”

Bowlen said on Wednesday afternoon: “I really have had no discussion with Jay or the agent. Mike was fired right after the season. At that point, there was no need to have a discussion with Jay. Now, actually, to be fair, I don’t think I had that discussion. I don’t recall it. I know I’m getting up there in age, and I am not sure of that discussion.” (Source)

After a contentious conference call between quarterback Jay Cutler and the Denver Broncos’ brass on Monday, the situation has gone “from bad to worse”, according to a source close to the situation.

Actually, the Broncos paid Lonie Paxton a million to sign, with a five-year deal averaging $1.06M a year, when they had a perfectly good snapper in house — the reliable Mike Leach. Every year I see teams bring snappers to training camp, new guys with this same singular skill, and I can’t figure for the life of me any good reason to take a spot on your roster for one of these players and pay him a million a year. The Tennessee Titans would like to re-sign Chris Simms, however, it appears the Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions also have their eyes on the former University of Texas quarterback.

The Nashville City Paper, quoting league sources, reported Simms will visit Denver Wednesday.

The Broncos have Jay Cutler as their starter for now, but the relationship between him and new coach Josh McDaniels is off to a rocky start after Cutler’s name surfaced in talks regarding a trade for then-New England Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel.

According to the report, Detroit might offer Simms the quickest avenue to starting again. The new regime in Detroit certainly should be familiar with Simms, as former Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is now their head coach  (Source)
