Workplace safety audit occurring throughout system

Workplace safety is extremely important to our employees, patients, physicians, visitors, and other customers. Historically, ProMedica has long had a crisis prevention and communications plan in place which includes extensive training on topics such as bullying and domestic abuse; and guidelines for preventing violence in the workplace, setting up a command center when appropriate, and specific team roles to help resolve related safety issues for each of our business units. As an extra measure—to further home in on any areas where we may be able to improve upon the prevention of workplace crises—ProMedica recently hired a security consulting firm to conduct a workplace safety audit. A team of six experts from Security Risk Management Consultants, Columbus, Ohio, is conducting this thorough assessment across our system. In addition to department visits and facility site inspections which will be completed by March 29, the auditors will conduct several staff-only focus groups comprised of multiple disciplines and departments to listen to any employee concerns or suggestions. Once they gather information from across our system, they will share their findings and recommendations with our senior leaders by the end of April.

ProMedica’s credit rating upgraded

ProMedica has been upgraded by Standard & Poor’s (S&P) to an increased credit rating of “AA.” This connotes ProMedica is one of the nation’s most financially sound not-for-profit health systems. There currently are fewer than 20 healthcare systems in the U.S. that hold this high rating from S&P. According to S&P, ProMedica was upgraded for: its solid business position in the Greater Toledo market; improving market share; consistent operations; adequate cash flow; debt coverage and light debt; sound liquidity; and effective leadership, demonstrated by our success of prior hospital integrations.

FTC Files Administrative Complaint

We are disappointed that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) voted to issue an administrative complaint challenging the St. Luke’s Hospital and ProMedica joinder. The joinder has enabled St. Luke’s, an organization that was in financial distress, to continue to fulfill its mission of providing care for the community. The joinder will provide tremendous benefits to the community, including increasing patients’ access to care, enhancing clinical integration and creating efficiencies in delivering care.
