Do the daily grind, and mundane stresses of the typical workweek leave you feeling exhausted and longing for the weekend? The anticipation of a few fun-filled days can frequently leave us feeling burnt-out and 'running on zero' energy throughout the week. Still, the key to staying productive and successful is a lot simpler than you think: just stay positive!

There is no better way to keep a positive mindset than to charge yourself up with some inspirational quotes to help you power through the week!

Sometimes it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by work, school, or even just life in general. Life is busy, and a day can speed by like a blur with all the tasks at hand. Sometimes it might feel hard to keep up. This Wednesday quote is a simple and gentle reminder that midweek is here - and it's okay to go at your own pace. Any step in the right direction will carry you closer to your goals.

Thursday: "If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit," -Banksy.

Thursdays can be grueling to many since it’s close but not quite close enough to the weekend. While we have gotten past the midweek "hump," Thursdays almost tease us with the promise of a relaxing weekend that lay just beyond our grasp. With that being said, this quote from Banksy reminds us to not quit on our weekday progress, but rather rest a bit and then forge ahead asap!

This small but mighty quote reminds us of the principles (most taken from the pseudoscience based on positive or negative thoughts, called the Law of Attraction) of how we can attract or "manifest" whatever we want in our life. To make it simple, we attract what we are ready to receive.

Remind yourself to keep it positive as you go into the final day of the traditional workweek and be ready to receive all the good things a weekend can bring.

Saturday: "Make happiness a priority and be gentle with yourself in the process." -Bronnie Ware.

The long-anticipated weekend has officially arrived! It's Saturday, and the day is rife with endless possibilities. Start your weekend with this quote as a reminder that you should prioritize happiness in whatever form that comes.

As we reflect on the past week and relax on Sunday, do yourself a favor and read this quote in anticipation of the week ahead. Challenge yourself to make time for the process of wellness and mental health as you unwind from an eventful week and plan for the next one.

Personal Branding with Social Media

The idea behind personal branding is not a new one but rather something that has been recently re-booted due to the presence of social media. The role of social media, especially with someone looking to be in the public eye (such as a model or actor), is critical in the establishment of themselves - or, their personal brand. There is a plethora of advice on how to manage your social media accounts and social media presence, but there is very little to be said about the role of personal branding. And, even when personal branding is discussed, many people don't know the true meaning behind the phrase and can therefore miss out on endless opportunities to personally brand themselves.

The strong presence of social media today has allowed a path for personal branding to become easier and has given us the ability to monitor what we want the public eye to see and think about us (aka, branding ourselves).

Personal branding can be as simplistic as asking yourself, what do you want people to think of you? What message are you trying to convey about yourself? However, it can also be complex in grey areas that we typically don't think of. It surrounds us daily and nobody really thinks about it.

Think about this - if you see a man at the store with a Patagonia jacket, North Face beanie, and wearing Timberland boots, then the automatic suggestion from his outfit alone is that this person likes to be active and seems to be outdoorsy - maybe a hiker and someone who loves adventure? This person has personally branded himself by just the choice of clothing brands he put on his body. He is conveying to people what he wants them to think of him... and it worked!

Now take this simple example and apply it to social media and it gets a bit tricky. There exists an array of things to do before you can successfully brand yourself on social media - so, luckily, here are some quick tips on how to do just that!

1. Cultivate your personal brand

Now that you have the rundown of what personal branding is, the next step is to understand how to cultivate your personal brand.

Remember the example with the man dressed in Patagonia, the North Face, and Timberlands? Apply this in terms of social media. Instead of the clothing you wear, it is the content you post that will help to create your personal brand online. In short, your content cultivates a type of personal image for yourself online for the public eye to see.

When it comes to cultivating a personal brand on social media, ensure that it's kind of like your personal brand in a nutshell. Your bio tells your story at a quick glance to the public.

Another tip when cultivating your brand on your social media accounts, try to consider a cohesive look and have what you are posting (more in terms of pictures than words) look clean and concise to the message you are trying to convey. For example, let's say that you are a model who is interested in photography. Your Instagram account isn't going to look like a typical young-adult Instagram who doesn't perhaps put in that much effort to how their photos look on their feed. However, for you, your Instagram should be laid out to look aesthetically pleasing to those who come across it - considering the fact that you are branding yourself as someone who is interested in photography and likes a clean and concise look at things.

Be mindful that if you want to keep more fun and carefree social media accounts, that having a separate account(s) is also an option when building your personal brand. And never forget, what you post on the internet stays there forever so be careful of what you post!

2. Identify the message you want to convey to your followers

Although it may seem like a simple concept, many people have difficulty with the concept of personal messages and information they give on the media.

When it comes to online personal branding, it is important to start organically by asking yourself: "What am I trying to tell my followers? What do I want them to know and think about me?"

Retreat back to these self-analyzing questions when you are branding yourself online - especially if this branding is for professional reasons. For example, a person who wants to brand themselves as some type of "fitness motivator" should not stray into doing clothing haul videos or posts (unless it becomes related to their fitness brand). And, as a model or actor, it is important to keep this question in mind when thinking about how you want to stick out on the media. These days, social media is critical for an actor or model because clients, casting directors, and agencies often look at social media accounts and take the content into consideration when considering working with a model/talent.

Don't forget to ask yourself what message you want to convey through your photos or words to the public. If you want to be a high-fashion model one day, consider posting shots of you in what looks to be high-fashion photos. Take inspiration from fashion models and celebrity media darlings like Kendall Jenner and Timothée Chalamet and see what they post on their social media accounts.

3. Update your social media accounts

Updating (or cleaning up) your social media is another essential step to successfully branding yourself online. This can be something like deleting old pictures that you don't want to be seen publicly on Instagram and Facebook, or deleting tweets from high-school and college on Twitter. Cleaning up your social media is key in helping boost your personal brand and efficiently managing your social accounts.

In order to keep your social media all about your brand, it should be clean of any distractions that stray from the message you are conveying to the public.

Not only does updating your accounts mean deleting old posts that no longer serve you, but rather updating the look of your social media too. This can mean updating your profile picture, following new brands and/or people that you think best suits your personal brand, posting new content, etc. Your updated social media should have a thing or two to say about who you are professionally (and personally). A person viewing your profile should know what you're all about at first glance, and an updated profile can do wonders to achieving this.

4. Sell Yourself

By definition, personal branding is a process by which we market ourselves to others. With that being said - get used to selling yourself!

If you are a model, sell yourself through pictures posted from photoshoots and following other models. Don't forget to promote your agent, which is a big help in not only branding yourself but networking as well. For example, if you are a model who is posting a shot from a photoshoot, consider somewhere in the caption to say: "Thank you PMTM for this opportunity! #thisisPMTM." It's as quick and easy as that! Now you have just branded yourself as a respectable model who is appreciative of her agency. People will build an image of who you are as a person over a picture and just a few short words of thanks.

5. Stay Active

One of the most important key steps in online personal branding seems like one of the most simple, however, its importance is of magnitude - stay active with your online presence.

Staying active on your social media accounts ensures increased engagement from your followers and it tells your audience that you are on top of things in terms of your professional and personal life. Think about it this way - you identify more with a celebrity that is constantly active on social media and regularly posts, that way their followers have something to look forward to, rather than someone who only posts every once in a while. The tricky part about getting good at being in the public eye is that the public never wants to be left alone - however, with personal branding (especially in career paths like acting and modeling) you should like the limelight in a sense that it helps build your brand organically and grow in your profession.

A local businessman is not going to care much about his media engagement, however, the social media marketer, model, influencer, etc. will care a lot because of what it means to them in regard to their personal brand.

So, take this all into consideration when engaging with your social media accounts. If you want to make it big in the social media world, then these things matter. Staying active on your accounts and giving your followers the content that they identified in the first place is important.

With the new-age media, it is critical to be able to navigate social media when considering it as a tool for personal branding. Luckily, with these helpful tips and a goal-oriented personality, social media and a personal brand can coexist and leave you happy with the results.

Recycling: The Future in Fashion

With climate change and global warming leaving lasting negative effects on our earth, being an aware and conscious consumer is more important now than ever. Younger generations are making a vigilant attempt to move in the direction of being more environmentally friendly, and are doing so in many unique ways. Individuals all over the United States, and worldwide, are putting in great effort to reduce their waste. One big way is through fashion.

According to Science Friday’s “How the Fashion Industry is Responding to Climate Change.”, 8% of global carbon emissions come from the fashion industry. This is due to companies quickly producing garments and flying through resources without much thought of how they will affect the environment. It takes a staggering 2700 liters of water to make a single t-shirt and making one pair of jeans produces the same amount of greenhouse gases as driving a car more than 69 miles (“How The Fashion Industry Is Responding To Climate Change.”).

Over the years, big and small fashion companies have been making changes to become more environmentally friendly. As stated in “The Future of Fashion in One Word: Plastics”, Pardes says that companies such as Adidas, Timberland, Everlane, Patagonia, H&M, Girlfriend Collective, and more have all come out with products and even whole lines that feature recycled materials such as water bottles. But, how do you make water bottles into clothing, you ask?

Water bottles are collected, sanitized, chipped, melted, and spun into yarn that can be used to make yoga pants, puffy jackets, and sneakers among other types of clothing. In 2017 alone, Adidas sold over one million pairs of shoes that were made with recycled plastic. (Pardes). Everlane has a denim line that has decreased water pollution from the dye and chemicals, as well as silk shirts made of “clean silk”, free of toxic dyes.

For many companies, these seemingly little (but actually quite big) changes are just the start. And more companies are joining in. After a recent United Nations initiative, 250 major brands pledged to cut single-use plastics from their supply chains and replace them with natural or recycled ones (Pardes).

Companies aren’t the only ones who can make a change! You can too! In recent years, buying vintage clothing has become more and more popular. Millennials and Gen Z’s are adopting secondhand clothing 2.5 times faster than all other ages. All over the country, there are shops where you can buy gently worn or secondhand clothing. And to no surprise, much of those pieces are incredibly cute and fashionable.

Only about 15% of all fabric waste is recycled or reused in the United States, but nearly everything in your closet can be repurposed (“Planet Aid”). Recycling clothing would help tremendously in reducing the forces that contribute to climate change but unfortunately, Americans throw away about 85% of unwanted clothing. The discarded clothing ends up in landfills, where they release greenhouse gases that can severely damage the earth. Not only are harmful gases released, but non-biodegradable fabric can sit in landfills for up to 200 years.

According to “Planet Aid”, by buying secondhand clothing, you are eliminating the need for newly manufactured clothing, which will cut down on environmental damage. So, not only are you getting a great new unique wardrobe for an insanely low price, you’re saving the environment too!

Experiencing IMTA Through a Parent's Eyes

So often we get caught up in the excitement of watching our young models and talent celebrate their success in the industry, and we don't get a chance to recognize all of the hard work and dedication their parents put in to help them get there. After all, parents are perhaps the most important ally an agency has when it comes to marketing a young model or actor; they truly play an instrumental role in the success of their child.
Meet Lisa, mother of our uber-talented Tailyn Mapp. Lisa and 17-year-old Tailyn are from Mansfield, Ohio and have been riding a constant wave of excitement since Tai the attended IMTA LA'18 convention with Pro-Model and Talent Management. When her daughter first came to her with an interest in the modeling industry Lisa did her due diligence as a mom, seeking out the best possible place for her daughter to safely get started in the industry. After following several other PMTM success stories, Lisa knew that Tailyn pursuing IMTA with Pro-Model and Talent Management could be a life-changing experience for her daughter.
Lisa admits she did receive a lot of unsolicited feedback from people who questioned her decision to support her daughter's dream of becoming a model, but Lisa had unwavering confidence in Tailyn's ability. After watching the PMTM staff prepare and develop her daughter, Lisa confidently put Tailyn on a plane to LA with her new PMTM family. Tailyn performed phenomenally at the IMTA convention, garnishing a lot of interest from fashion agencies and even securing an opportunity to walk for a celebrated designer. Back home in Mansfield, Lisa cheered her little girl on during the week of the convention and watched as multiple offers of representation from high fashion agencies all over the world began to pour in.
When Tai returned home from IMTA LA '18, she and Lisa needed to make some very important decisions about Tailyn's career. With the expert guidance of PMTM's National/ International Placement Director, Mary Sklamba, Tai and Lisa settled on Next Worldwide to represent her globally. As a result of the development she received at Pro-Model and Talent Management, Tailyn was ready to begin working immediately with Next and could hit the ground running.
As a parent, Lisa recognized the importance of Tailyn's education, as well as the significance of the life-changing opportunity in front of her daughter. She made the admirable choice to allow Tai to do her schooling online while balancing her work as a model... and holy smokes has she been working! In the short year since Tailyn attended IMTA, she has worked in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London, Montreal, and Toronto, all the while maintaining good grades and finishing her senior year of high school. Tailyn's very first booking in NYC was a fashion show for the ultra-glam designer, Sherri Hill. We think it's totally awesome that Lissa was able to be there in person to see her daughter rock the runway in those fabulous gowns. Lisa credits organizational apps and tools to help her keep Tai where she needs to be, on track and on time. Tailyn is having a blast living out her dreams as a model and it certainly appears that Lisa is having a blast supporting her extraordinarily talented daughter!
Most recently, Tailyn has secured another enormous advancement in her career by signing with the iconic IMG Models Worldwide. This exciting next step in Tailyn's career will no doubt be a fabulous continuation of the whirlwind journey this mother-daughter duo have been on the past year. One thing is for certain, Tailyn is very fortunate to have such amazing support behind her in the form of her mom, Lisa. Way to go, Ladies! The Pro-Model and Talent Management staff is thrilled to have Tai and Lisa as a part of the PMTM family. We eagerly anticipate more exciting updates on Tailyn's career in the near future. It's Time to say Goodbye: Guidelines For Cosmetic Life Span

We know how much you love that perfect pink lipstick. We know you treasure that eyeliner which creates a smoky eye so sublime, it has been sharpened down to no more than a nub. Sadly, there comes a point when you have to let go and accept the reality that your favorite beauty products will eventually become a breeding ground for bacteria. Here's how to know what's still good and what's past its prime.

FOUNDATION

Moisturizing foundations and stick concealers can hang around for 18 months. A 12-month shelf life applies to both oil-free foundations, and liquid concealers which can dry out quickly.

BLUSH & POWDERS

Discard your cream blushes after a year, powder blushes, and powders after 2 years.

MASCARA

Toss your mascara after 3 months. Mascara has the shortest life span of all make up because the risk of transferring bacteria back and forth from your eye into the mascara tube is so great. If your mascara starts to dry out before its 90 days is up, throw it away.

EYE PENCILS

Eye pencils can be kept up to 2 years. To ensure you’re using a clean tip, sharpen before each application.

EYESHADOWS

Powder shadows can last up to 2 years, but pay extra attention to cream-based shadows, which tend to grow bacteria more quickly than powders. If you use your fingers to apply your shadows, wash your hands before doing so. If you notice any changes in color or smell, its time to pitch it!

LIPSTICKS

Since lipstick and gloss are repeatedly exposed to the mouth area, it is suggested to replace lip products after a year; if you've recently been sick, it may be a good idea to replace your lip products sooner. Lipsticks and glosses contain oily ingredients that start to smell like stale cooking oil over time, indicating its time to throw them out.

If a team is only as good as their leader, then the models and talent attending IMTA with Pro-Model and Talent Management will be headed for greatness! The driving force behind the two decades of successful placement of our models and talent at IMTA is Mary Sklamba and her staff of directors.

Kim A., the mom of Pro-Model and Talent Management alumni Duncan, says it best: "Mary Sklamba changed (dare I say saved?) my son's life. She met Duncan during the darkest period of his life due to severe bullying. She saw potential in Duncan and showered him with encouragement. Now he is thriving in Los Angeles, living his dream. He just booked a role in a new TV series. I hate to wonder where Duncan would have been had he not found refuge and inspiration at Pro Model and Talent Management."

Mary is responsible for the dozens of relationships Pro-Model and Talent Management has established with agents, managers, casting directors and agencies in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, and as well as internationally. She has a passion for helping people of all ages reach their dreams in the entertainment industry and works relentlessly to give Pro-Model and Talent Management's IMTA contestants as many opportunities as possible.

Ironically, Mary's professional career began with helping people in a very different way. She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts from Cleveland State University and began a career in marketing for the healthcare industry. While working on her master's degree in counseling, she took a part-time job at a modeling and talent agency in Cleveland. There she discovered a knack for networking, as well as helping models and talent navigate the industry. Mary then accepted a full-time position with Pro-Model and Talent Management. It was there she realized her future was in the entertainment industry, then deciding to no longer pursue her master's program. Mary put her energy into making Pro-Model and Talent Management the best agency in the region, and when she heard about the International Modeling and Talent Association (IMTA), she knew it was the perfect opportunity to take models and talent to the next level. Using her well-honed networking skills, Mary has now spent over 20 years opening doors in the industry for models and talent, helping them achieve their dreams of modeling and acting on a national or international level.

Mary has played an integral role in the careers of many successful models and talent. She keeps in contact with almost all of those she has placed, including Brian Byrnes whom Mary placed over 20 years ago in Los Angeles! He is one of many alums who come to the IMTA convention every year to support Mary and the Pro Model Talent Management models and talent. Mary has attended many movie premieres, the prestigious Governors Ball, and even the Emmy Awards, as a guest of talent she has placed. She loves that she has been able to help so many people, and enjoys visiting them on the sets they are currently working on when she is in New York City or Los Angeles.

When Mary isn't placing models and talent all over the world, she can usually be found volunteering her time to local animal rescue groups. She is an avid animal-lover and has several furry children of her own, all of which she has rescued over the years.

Modeling Etiquette- Be the Whole Package

Being a working model in the industry means upholding a respectable look, dazzling personality, and being the complete package for any and every client that wants to work with you. To help those of you working in the industry as models or looking to work in the industry, we have created a list of what to do while pursuing this career path.

Make sure they can reach you: Have a working phone that you will check often for calls from clients, as well as an accessible email address. Make sure to respond to calls and emails ASAP.

Have clean manicured nails: Make sure finger and toenails are clean, trimmed and polished. Wear neutral nail colors or clear polish. Stay away from french manicures. Keep nails at a natural length.

Style hair: Make sure your hair color and style are in fact, IN STYLE, and very similar to your head shots or composite. Make sure hair is clean and well taken care of. No roots and make sure highlight and colors are fresh.

Take care of your skin: Casting directors want to see blemish free skin. No self tanner, or obvious sun tan lines. Stay out of the sun prior to the booking or audition, if you are in the sun, protect your skin and use an SPF of 70+.

Hygiene: Brush your teeth, shave, and come FRESH!

Be punctual: “If you are early, you’re on time. If you are on time, you’re late.” Make that your motto and come 15 minutes prior to the time you are set to arrive. This is a must. Do not waste anyone’s time.

Listen to the photographer: Don’t complain about location or circumstances and be ready to happily take direction.

Respect the hair/makeup stylist: Be courteous and let them do their jobs. They are professionals and doing a job just like you are. Don’t complain and make SURE you thank them for their work. They know what they are doing and what will get the best photographs.

Don’t bring guests to auditions/bookings: No friends, or significant others, or parents. The only exception is if you are under the age of 18 years old, in which case you should bring ONE parent/guardian with you.

No jewelry: Jewelry can cause glare in photos and be a distraction.

Be enthusiastic: Be patient. Project confidence and enthusiasm!

Be polite and considerate to EVERYONE: Personality is a large part of the modeling/acting industry. If the client likes you they are likely to book you again. Your attitude can make or break your career.

Models are all working towards the same goal, make sure you stand out and make an excellent impression with your appearance and even better personality!
