Of course you wanna rest up and take a little time to mentally and physically recover. But don't sit around too long!

I am a thorough believer that games are won or last in preparation and/or practice sessions (thanks Phil Jackson!). So as your recovering, begin to plan out your off season training for next season in your head.

Take time to reflect on the outcome of this past season, and consider your training goals this off season as you consider these things:

Did you meet certain team and personal goals this past season?

How was your conditioning at the mid-point and end of the season on a scale of 1-10?

In thinking about these three skills: speed, agility/quickness, and power, in what order do they rank in terms of where you need improvement?

How well did your last off season program prepare you for this season?

Those are just some factors to consider when mulling over your idea of what to do this off season! I will be uploading video of athletes using this fantastic new device, but in the meantime, check out the Training Mask in the video below.

Visit their offcial site at www.TrainingMask.com

Training in small space? No problem!

I always like to think that no matter where you are, you can get training accomplished. YES, competition typically takes place on an open field, open court or in a wide space. But you can still train to move in those settings----with less space to train in.

This is a video that I shot of one of my athletes training with 6" mini hurdles. That space that he was working in was extremely small, but he was still able to work on arm action/foot action coordination, quickness in his stepping in terms of ground contact, change of direction and balance. ALL SPORTS NECESSARY MOVEMENTS.

Take a look at the video below, and the next time you don't think you have enough space---think again!

The 6" box is great for training athletic explosiveness---and more

I swear by plyometrics. I think they are fantastic for building athletic explosiveness. In years past I would always gravitate toward using plyo boxes that were high----24 to 36 inches in height typically.

But a few years back I came upon the mini 6" box. Even though it is short in stature, this 6" box proved that you could not only build explosiveness but it allows you to train for quickness and speed too!

I think the video would do it better justice than I can in text; take a look at this cool video of the different ways to incorporate the 6" box into your workouts. Experiment and let me know what you think by shooting me an email at PerformanceSport21@gmail.com.

Train body balance along with quick feet

Quick feet are for sure a must in order to be a top level competitive athlete. However, having quick feet is not enough. What happens to the rest of your body matters as well!

What I mean is that you want to have great body balance no matter whats going on with your feet. You want the ability to twist, turn and move side to side and still maintain good body balance.

In the video above watch one of my athletes as he performs quick feet drills. Take special notice to not only his feet, but watch his torso/shoulders. No matter what direction his feet move in, he still maintains good body control. This is crucial in sports when it comes to being able to perform athletic actions such as catching, throwing, hitting and swinging. No matter what your feet are doing, have the ability maintain balance and still perform with balance!

Close Quarters athlete training

Who says you need a ton of space to train? Simply put, you must have the ability to be able to move forward, side to side, back wards, spinning, up and down while performing athletic actions.

So train this way too! Perform "ordinary" drills such as high knees and butt kicks in these different planes to get used to moving in multiple planes. Check out the drills in the video below and incorporate them into your "multi-plane" workouts.

Train to change direction

Who says you can become more agile? It's for sure one of the athletic skills that I believe is trainable. Below is a series of change of direction drills based on the use of cones.
