Openleaks? Probably a hoax. (Update: It is really happening)

I saw news about Openleaks on finnish Yle newsite. Source was swedish Dagens Nyheter. Quick search on google gave result only of one Slashdot.org article, which referred to same Dagens Nyheter story. Openleaks.org was tweeting 44 mins ago, "site coming soon". So nothing else, only source being swedish Dagens Nyheter and right now I really wouldn't believe anything what swedish media is trying to push out regarding Wikileaks.

This thing smells and pretty badly. If there was rumours about WikiLeaks being CIA operation, more likely I would bet my money that Openleaks really is something fishy, related to CIA operations. Why Dagens Nyheter article is written in english, since they normally write in swedish? Use google translate for reading comments there, most of them are in swedish and comments are really suspicious about the whole news.

Why Wikileaks group would split right now? There is nearly 1,200,000 supporters on Facebook and everything is going forward, despite of US goverment enormous pressure.

So... I would say, Openleaks is hoax, don't believe in it.

Of course Facebook seems to have plenty of other privacy issues, but this is really ridiculous. I'm not really fancy about idea of all my Facebook friends to know my current location. Well they know now, if they really want and the actual problem is: I can't really do anything about it, I can't change my privacy settings for fixing this problem. Thanks Facebook, again.

Development during last weeks on my Facebook stream, it is so obvious, whole Facebook is fading away. Rich content is really missing, my stream is just full pointless announcements about who is who's new friend and who 'likes' which commercial or non-commercial services, pages, pointless groups for just showing off your personal frustrations, racism etc. one word: BORING!

Nowadays Facebook is becoming really boring place and people are also showing it off with their lack of imagination status updates or complete inactivity. What it means for the business built around social media services like Facebook... really bad times. Facebook stocks, sinking down. Social media and Facebook? Train already passed by.

There is also really a lot of people who dislike constant changes on Facebook privacy settings. I also dislike it and I have been seriously considering about deleting (not just deactivating) my Facebook account.

If there will come up really interesting alternatives for Facebook, I will probably do it or atleast deactive the use of my Facebook account. Lot of my Facebook friends have already started the great escape, it is obvious, you can see it on the news stream, it is really dry and boring.

What interesting Facebook is offering for me today? Nothing. Changing the channel now.

iPad buzz and fuzz - so is it really worth it all?

iPad went on sale during easter (3.4.2010) and web is full of first user experiences.

Will iPad be something revolutionary or is it just a secondary coming of Cd-rom (boingboing)? Next days and weeks will show it. I guess applications are showing pretty much the direction and atleast myself I will be waiting for multitask-update before buying my own iPad.

ReadWriteWeb posted an article about Facebook Connect and now it can be found on Google top search with "Facebook login". Site has got lot of visitors who think ReadWriteWeb is just another Facebook re-design.

If you are deleting UnNamed Application based on info spreading on Facebook... you are just falling on virally spreading Facebook rumour. UnNamed Application is only taking care of your Boxes tab.

If you are not using Boxes tab, no harm done, but if you were using it, you probably want to know how to get it back.

to put back your boxes tab:

1. go back to the page where you removed the Unnamed App from.
2. select "edit settings" for an app under the "added profile boxes" section
3. click remove, then click add when it appears.

This is actually really simple and you can do it by using Bloggers own Gadgets, so don't use 3rd party widgets for this one, unless you really want.

First you need to know url of your blogs atom feed, the format is like this:

http://yourblog.blogspot.com/feeds/comments/default

then you add new rss-feed Gadget (Feed) and use your comments rss-feed url (Feed URL) on it.

You can modify format (date etc.) of recent comments list and number of shown comments. Change feed title to 'Recent comments' or whatever you find suitable.

Simple? Yep, no coding needed. Just couple mouse clicks and voila.

Quick comments: Even result for clicks is horrible, I think 81 000 impressions sounds really good. You get your brand on peoples mind and maybe some did later a google search with brand name, instead of clicking ad.

US or whole world is really big market area. I bet facebook ads work better on smaller scale, like example targeted to certain country or region.

Are Digg users actually viewing digged links?

Ok. Many times I have been wondering if Digg users actually view links they are digging. Today I got some kind of proof they don't do it.

This IRAN- Police runs away video got into TOP5 on Digg News section. Right now there is over 400 diggs, but video has been viewed only less than 500 times.

Conclusion: Either Youtube stats are wrong or then Digg users are not really viewing what they are digging. They just digg because others are digging too.

Video clip is over week old, which is really easy to see from Related Videos on Youtube. Original video was uploaded 13.06.2009 to Youtube.

So Digg users digged into TOP5 News something which was over week old. I only can understand this weird scenario by stating that Digg users are not really viewing links they digg. Any comments?

Facebook made recently big changes to their rss stream, now you can literally see everything. Quizzes, polls, photos, SU thumbings and so on... loads of people are really fed up and they are changing to Twitter.

If you are blogging about social media, web, marketing etc. now it is excellent time to wrote about facebook, because people are interested to read any possible news about changes on facebook layout drama.

If you haven't noticed, many top bloggers have paraller blogs and the niches on these blogs may just slightly differ of each others. Usually blogs are using same cloned template.

So why to use cloned template? Why not to make unique design for each blog? If you blogs niches are quite similar, stantard design makes whole thing look more professional and it is also easier to maintain, since you can copy/paste code between blogs.

If you use your own php/sql-based service, you probably can control whole blog package from one admin panel. It also makes easier to maintain advertising, widgets etc. stuff related to your blogs.

So, what I suggest to do. Start blogging with one blog, tune it into top notch condition, then clone it into small army of blogs. Recruit writers or use guest columnists, if you don't have time to create content for all your blogs. You can keep your original blog as the mothership blog, where you drive your sustained traffic to your other blogs.

Are you struggling with iFrames and new banners?

I just added www.125exchange.com banner (size 125x125) to this blog. Without any additional code, banner was causing me grey hairs, because it was destroying left column layout. I think problem was with iFrames, which quite many banner exchane programs etc. are using.

My simple solution - without spending extra time for google searches etc. - was to use good old table structure. With tables it is quite easy to get your banners in decent order and look nice on your layout, no matter if they use iFrames code or not. Check example on www.w3schools.com.

Any other clever solutions for banners with iFrames code? Probably there are 3-column blogger templates with built-in slots for 125x125 banners?

This blog will get major face-lift with gfx and stuff, hopefully before New Year, meanwhile you can enjoy of current modest basic Blogger template. ;)

Want to know amount of web traffic for certain website or blog?

Forget Alexa, this is much more interesting tool for peaking amount of web traffic:

Why? Because Alexa only ranks top 100,00 pages and there is plenty of interesting stuff beyond Alexa's ranking.

Basically idea for websiteoutlook.com is to estimate value for your own website or some other website, but you can use it also for other purposes, since it is showing amount of daily page views for any url you feed on it. I think it is quite cool tool for checking how much to pay for ad slot on certain website. You could use it for estimating where to buy entrecard ad slots.

Of course daily page views is not only measurement for estimating value of certain ad slot, but it is a good start. Most of other info (bouncer rate, returning visitors etc.) only webmasters know and they probably won't share that info.

FYI... websiteoutlook.com has 140,000 daily page views and value (based on web traffic) is $304161.8 USD... not bad.

Chat- or shoutboxes on blog pages, how you could use them for promotion? I'm talking about in a way, where you are not going to be considered as pro-spammer, but kind of efficient way, so you don't have spent too much time with it.

My idea, this is actually development of Kid Tech Gurus tip

Anyway... lets continue, so you can repeat search so many times as you can imagine good keywords related to your niche. When you find nice blog related to your niche, leave a message and maybe you could have shoutbox on your blog for webmasters to leave their response.

Since you search for blogs related to your own niche, I don't think it is so bad, you could consider it as networking.... or? :D :D

Anyway... I might give it a try, it is not such a bad idea, maybe twitter automated messages or feed flooding could be considered more spam than this idea. I think it is a nice and low cost method to network, specially if you are with low traffic and need to find new readers for your blog.
