These events are very interesting, so I thought I should give it a go.

Two weeks ago, I wrote a how-to guide to updating your Wordpress blog to the latest version (2.5).

I know many people find this update process rather daunting, so I thought a clear guide, containing lots of screenshots, would help.

Having written the guide, I wanted to get into into other peoples’ hands, so I submitted the guide to this giveaway event.

Basically, anyone can get it (and many other useful reports, graphics, software products in the giveaway from other contributors) at no cost.

I will hopefully get some interest in the report and some people joining my update list, having requested more information.

I have now made more than 10 WordPress blogs, but have always been rather frustrated, trying to get a WordPress theme that looked ‘just right’ for my needs.

So I thought, “Why not find out how to make a WordPress theme myself?”

PowerBlogger theme was designed to NOT look like a blog. It has few of the usual WordPress “clues”. I wanted a look that I could use for non-blog sites, such as corporate websites and niche content sites.

50 pages - very little “fluff” - surprising amount of detailed stuff given away for free. It includes a simple 16 step plan to building a valuable online business using plr reports.

But it gets better.  There is a follow-on series of 8 or 9 videos as well, pretty much making-up a whole course on selling on the internet.  You have to give an email address to get the videos, but it’s well worth it, in my opinion.

I have been through all the follow-on training videos, and believe me they are VERY good - packed full of detailed information on how to market products on the internet.

You would be “nuts” not to watch all 8 videos, I suggest!

I recorded with the Pamela software for Skype and it worked really well. I got a very clear audio recording, even with Kevin in Japan, and me in England.

So amazingly, I now have a wonderful product I’ve created (with a bit of help from Kevin Riley) that I can sell.

Kevin Riley Recipe Masterclass

I think you will like it. I listen to it many times to learn stuff and I bet you will too.

Well I’ve heard that he is soon going to be running a “masterclass” over at Internet Skills Center on his particular style of online business.

Kevin is particularly known for his step-by-step packages ( called “Recipes”) that show how to do the fundamentals of starting an internet business - such as creating a product, writing a salesletter, generating visitors to your website and building a customer list.

This was offered on the Warrior Special Offers forum a couple of days ago.

It caused an absolute frenzy…

In just 24 hours, the thread had hundreds of posts and something like 9000 views - and was sold out.

Warrior “tiesto” is well known, very successful and respected (I’ve bought his products before and like his style).

Not surprising that it sold out so fast.. And apparently, there are “hundreds” of people on a waiting list.

It’s going to start in a few days and I’m very much looking forward to it.

We are each going to get a personal plan of work to follow.

I think this is going to replace my Affiliate Project in terms of my focus, as I’m pretty certain it will take a lot of work.

Not sure exactly what it’s going to involve yet, but it’s all be about creating “virtual real estate” (VRE) content sites, that will be set up to generate income.

To learn how to make application software for the Facebook platform and develop a successful application.

EXPLANATION

Facebook is rapidly becoming very important for millions of people on the internet. Recently, the platform has been made available to independent software developers.

I want to learn about how to develop application software for Facebook and I think the best way to do this, is to try it for real.

Firstly, I decided to release a very simple “app”. (I started work on this about 4 weeks ago).

After this experience, I hope to develop a more complex and powerful app, which achieves a significant number of users.

PROJECT STEPS

1. Investigate how to go about developing a Facebook application.
2. Join the Facebook Developers’ Programme.
3. Review the example code and tutorials they provide.
4. Develop a simple application. ( it’s called “Thoughtful Thoughts“)
5. Submit the test application to the Facebook Application Directory and get it accepted.
6. Review experience with the simple app.
7. Develop a more complex and powerful app.

(this will follow the general process of the thirty day challenge, but with some important variations)

EXPLANATION

I’m going to choose a topic and niche market, based on keyword research and competition analysis.

Then, by promoting commission-paying products owned by other people (affiliate products), I should be able to test the viability of the niche market as a basis for a longterm business.

PROJECT STEPS

1. Identify possible topics and niche markets to test.
2. Do keyword research, affiliate product and competition analysis.
3. Choose a niche market to work with.
4. Write relevant articles.
5. Set up a simple website, using some of the articles.
6. Submit other articles to authority sites, in order to attract traffic.
7. Use other promotion methods to attract traffic (eg. forums, groups, blog posts).
8. Monitor traffic generated and results achieved.

The Thoughtful Thoughts application I made for the Facebook platform has passed their screening and has been accepted into the Facebook Application Directory. Woo Hoo!

And it now has 160 users. That’s a very good start!

I’m now going to work on a more complex application, with feature that will encourage users to interact amongst themselves and hopefully, pass on the app to their friends.

This is really exciting for small developers, because it means that you can submit your application and it automatically becomes available to the 300 million+ users of Facebook.

So I thought I should give it a try…

I have developed a simple application called Thoughtful Thoughts.

This application places a powerful thought on your Profile Page for you or your visitors to read, whenever you want it. You can change the thought to a new one at any time, by simple running the app again.

In a future post here, I will write more about exactly how I went about doing the development and what coding was needed.

But essentially, I first added Facebook Developer to my account.

Then I studied the example applications they provide, to get an idea of the code and programming structure needed.

I created my simple app by amending one of the examples. It consists of a few php files running on my server, that are linked into and called by Facebook.

It’s functionality is fairly basic, but it has provided an excellent introduction to the techniques and the platform.

It’s now been added by sufficient users, to permit me to submit it to the Facebook Application Directory.

I’m waiting to see whether it is accepted! I’ll let you know…
